US launches Operation Linebacker I - 8/27/1972 - Duration: 1:13.
Today in military history, 1972.
US aircraft hit North Vietnamese barracks near Hanoi
and Haiphong in the heaviest bombing in four years.
Earlier that year, the North Vietnamese army
launched a ferocious military operation known as the Easter
Offensive, designed to gain as much territory and destroy
as many US and South Vietnamese units as possible.
In response, President Nixon unleashed Operation Linebacker
One, a continuous bombing effort against the North.
On August 27th, US aircraft flattened NVA barracks
near Hanoi and Haiphong and destroyed bridges
on the railroad line to China as four ships
hit the Haiphong port and attacked two NVA patrol boats.
Operation Linebacker One would continue through October
and in December, Linebacker Two would begin.

The US Government's $983 Freeze-Dried Urine - Duration: 4:13.
This is a packet and bottle of freeze-dried urine,
and the United States government will sell it to you for $983,
plus shipping.
Which is perhaps the strangest sentence I've ever started a video with,
but it's true.
What's even stranger is: that's a pretty reasonable price.
These are two of more than 1,000 Standard Reference Materials
that are kept here at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Here at NIST, we produce Standard Reference Materials
or SRMs for short.
SRMs are super characterised materials that our customers use
to make sure their measurements on their materials and processes
are accurate and reliable.
When a customer buys one of our SRMs,
they get both a unit of material and a certificate of analysis.
Each property, whether it's a chemical constituent
or a physical characteristic of the material
is a certified property
and it's measured most accurately.
The certificate of analysis is just as important as the material itself.
Without the certificate and all the information that's inside of it,
the SRM is just another bottle of stuff.
We have a variety of food materials in our SRM catalogue,
so this is slurried spinach.
When you slurry the spinach, it's nice and homogenous.
You sample a little bit from the top, it's the same as sampling from the bottom.
We also have our infamous domestic sludge,
from a waste water treatment process,
that has been dried, ground up, homogenised into this nice, fine powder.
We take this material.
We certify various toxic elements within the sludge,
that's what it's used for.
We also have the microsphere slide that contains the space beads.
They're 10 micron-wide, polystyrene spheres
that were formed on the space shuttle in zero gravity.
We have to store some of our more sensitive materials in cryocooled conditions.
We have our peanut butter, right there in a glass jar.
Oh, it's crackling.
Then, we have our whale blubber, organics in whale blubber.
This is actually whale blubber tissue from a beached whale.
It's for tracking organic contaminants in the environment,
and whales are the end of the food chain.
Every one of these reference materials has to be exactly the same,
to an incredibly precise margin.
They'll be used by people around the world to calibrate and test machinery.
Now, other places make reference materials too.
It's just that everything in this warehouse has the US Government stamp of approval on it.
Now, just to be clear, the vast majority of reference materials here are pretty dull.
They're for industrial processes, so they're metal, or glass, or pure elements.
There are three types of bauxite: from Suriname, Jamaica or the Dominican Republic.
There's even really precise mixes of gases available,
along with some radioactive elements.
Sometimes, it takes us years to actually procure a new material
that becomes an SRM a couple of years later.
We buy industrial products directly.
It comes from a different source each time we make it,
but we make it the same way,
and we characterise it in the same fashion.
Either we determine the chemical composition or its physical characteristics,
but we do that with accuracy.
In other cases, we have SRMs that are used to determine how they break.
We measure over and over again, with different methods,
to ensure that what we're measuring is the true value in that particular material.
The material itself is not precise.
The measurements that characterise it are precise.
So if you haven't worked it out yet,
the reason that freeze-dried urine is one of the reference materials
is because there are folks out there with machines that test urine.
They're either testing for drugs,
so the Institute will sell you urine laced with exact amounts
of the metabolites of cannabis or cocaine,
or they're testing for poisons and toxic elements.
So if you need to calibrate one of those testing machines,
to make sure that the results are accurate,
then the folks here are the ones you're going to call.

At the nation's top office, President Moon Jae-in welcomed a U.S. congressional delegation.
The two sides agreed on the growing importance of the Seoul, Washington alliance.
The liberal leader clarified, in the end it will be dialogue that will lead to North Korea's

The South Korean leader added the complete dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear program,
however, must ultimately be achieved through dialogue.
In response, Congressman Royce highlighted the importance of the South Korea, U.S. alliance.

and the U.S. have is the cornerstone of our relationship."
The South Korean leader also touched upon other aspects of the Seoul, Washington relationship.

clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
Despite the provocations,... Tillerson seemed willing to extend a lifeline to the regime,
saying Pyongyang could take a different path, if it so chooses, to resolve tensions on the
Korean Peninsula.

point earlier this month,... on a heated exchange of rhetoric between Washington and Pyongyang.
North Korea has since backed down from its threat to fire missiles toward the U.S. territory
of Guam,... while Washington has reassured worried observers,... that war was not imminent
on the Korean Peninsula.

U.S. Radio Station plays BTS' 'Blood, Sweat & Tears'
It has come to light that a radio station WiLD 94. 9 that is based in San Francisco, California played the track for all the fans in the bay area on August 25.
Upon listening to the track, fans of BTS couldnt help but show their excitement and started to recommend more songs of the group to the station with the hope of them playing more K-pop songs in the future.
This is not the first time the radio station has played BTS songs it seems as a few days ago, they played some of their other hits such as Fire and Not Today.
Before the radio station started to play the boys songs, there were hidden contributions from the fans.
BTS fans based in the United States created fan associations in various areas of the country and consistently requested radio stations to play the groups songs. Would you like to see other U.S. radio stations play K-pop songs as well?.

Russia's latest stealth fighter jet was seen at the International Army Games and performed in the sky to impress the crowds. The jets creators have claimed the aircraft will be the envy of air forces across the world.
Aerospace Force Commander-in-Chief Colonel General Viktor Bondarev said: "Every country probably wants planes such as this, and we have them. Russia has dubbed the new aircraft the "Ghost" because it aims to be unable to be seen or detected.
The twin engine jet was announced as the "Su-57" and Russian media believes it possesses capabilities like being able to be piloted remotely, for example by a drone. The new jet was made by Sukhoi and according to Russian press, it is able to go at 1,490 miles per hour and it is very manoeuvrable. .
However, its publicly listed top speed is 1,199 miles per hour. Russian media have also said that the jet is superior to its American counterparts.

South Korean President thanks U.S. congressional delegation for supporting his North Korea policy - Duration: 2:49.
President Moon Jae-in welcomed a U.S. congressional delegation at the presidential office earlier
this Monday.
The two sides saw eye-to-eye on the growing importance of the Seoul, Washington alliance.
The South Korean leader made clear, however, that in the end it will be dialogue that will
lead to North Korea's nuclear dismantlement.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in welcomed a U.S. bipartisan congressional delegation
led by Representative Ed Royce at the presidential
Blue House extending his special thanks for keeping the pressure strong on North Korea
through legislative means while at the same time sending a message for diplomatic solution.
The South Korean leader added the complete dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear program,
however, must ultimately be achieved through dialogue.
In response, Congressman Royce highlighted the importance of the South Korea, U.S. alliance.
