Hello and welcome to Donald Vlogsifys wood shop. I'm your host, Donald Matthews,
Let's see if I can get through this...
without doing the uhh uhh uhh uhhh thing.
I doubt it... but I wanted to try again because the last one....
was, every other word, "uhhhh" "uhhhhh" "uhhhhh"
And this is what happens when you don't try to write a script.
Uhhh
I've been working about everyday since the
last video I uploaded. So I haven't had a lot of time to get out here.
And when I did have a little bit of time, my back was hurting so I just....
I didn't make it out here.
But today I'm off.
And I wanted to get out here and
do a little more work on this pallet
project I'm doing for the uhhh....
pallet challenge.
The pallet up cycle challenge.
Which.......
I'll put the link to the video with all the information you need......
Russ at Simply Wooden Creations is.......
I guess, officiating it this year.
It was originally started and done
Cause.... I'm not sure because I come up on it
after it had already been going on for a year or two.
But I believe it was Sterling Davis....
that was the original person that started it and was running it.
And he just can't do it this year. So he asked Russ to officiate for him, so....
Russ being the great wonderful Santa Clause that he is...
said yes.
Click the little "I" button.
Up there at the top. A little round thing with a "I" in it.
If you run your mouse (curser) over the video.....
There'll be a little white dot come up here in the corner of the video.
And it'll have a "I" in it. Click on that...
and the link to that video and the info that you need to enter will be...
up there.
And I'll also put the link down there in the description.
As well (tongue tied) as Sterling Davis's
Wow I'm having a hard time today.
As well as Sterling Davis' channel. I'll put his link down there too.
One thing that I come across on the pallets that I pick up and
it's not an unusual thing with pallet wood.
There's still nails. Even after I've gotten.....
it taken apart, there's still nails from where it had been previously nailed.
And other metal.
Not necessarily nails, but metal where they
cut off and repaired and such like that.
I'm going to try and get as much of that out as possible.
And I figured, since I don't have a project for this video, a good thing to show you
was how I go about doing that.
So, I'm gonna move over there to
the little bench thingy and show you how I do it.
With a nail punch.
Imagine that....
ohhhhhh let's get to this.
OK, the standard tools you're gonna need.....
is, of course, a hammer.
A nail punch.
And if you don't have a nail punch, no problem. You can use a small screwdriver.
Or even another nail.
And a pair of pliers, because some of these....
where the heads are cut off, you're going to have to pull them out like that.
As you can see, there's a couple of nails
still embedded in there that have been cut off.
At some point and time.
Probably to repair a pallet or something.
Or to use that piece of wood on another pallet.
And you just take.........
your nail punch......
and tap it through.
Until it's far enough on the other side...
that you can get your claw under the head.
Try not to split the wood. But....
with pallet wood, there's a chance it's going to happen anyway, no matter what ya do.
And now just pull it on out.
And like I said, there's a chance the splitting is going to happen no matter what you do.
The nail head has been cut off.
and all you have left is this here.
That's where you're probably going to need the pliers.
The claw may get up in there.
But at some point we're gonna have to pull out the pliers.
I can bout guarantee ya.
And it maybe a simple fact that you just.....
can't get it out.
You may just have to work around it.
It all depends on how badly you want that nail out.
And another solution.....
Instead of the nail punch.
I'm sorry I'm sweating so bad. I've got the air conditioner turned off so ya'll can hear me.
I'm using, just simply.....
another nail.
And I don't think......
we're gonna get this one out.
There ya go.
It takes some work. Again, it depends on how bad you want those nails out.
We'll work on this too.
You might want to flatten the point of the nail a little though.
And that's pretty much it. Just a nail punch... a nail......
Sometimes a small screwdriver will work.
Although, I was using a flatblade and that......
It just depends on the nails that you got in the board.
Palletwood is something that you have to......
there are things that work. Things that don't work.
And other things. You kind of have to feel your way through it cause.
each board is going to be different.
The nails.............
in the boards... well....
The pallet wood... I suggest if you can, getting a metal detector.
and running it over making sure that you have all the metal
out of the palletwood. I'm looking at a pile of palletwood now.
But make sure you got all of the metal out of the wood before you run it through power equipment.
Especially planers and jointers and stuff like that.
Thank you for watching. Please give me a thumbs up.
A like,dislike, thumbs down....
Whatever you want to call it.
Gimmie on or the other.... uhhhh
Tell me what ya liked, what ya didn't like.
If you've got any other suggestions on how to get the nails out....
Especially those cut nails cause....
I'm sure there's a hundred thousand different ways people have of doing it. But, ya know.
More knowledge is always better knowledge.
