how's it going everybody body my name is Billy and it is time for another video

in today's video I'm going to be watching another performance by dotto

and it's been a little while since I have reacted to Datos performance the

last one I watched was a tribute video to Whitney Houston and it was absolutely

beautiful and it really got me emotional and it was such a touching performance

and I really like that one of you guys requested a music video for me to see um

it is called Dirgahayu Official Music Video Dato' Siti Nurhaliza um yeah

what a title um I'm not really good at pronouncing so I might not be able to

get that right but um yeah originally called be in the description below and

yes I have been wanting to see more of Dato as well the reason why I wasn't

able to do a video sooner um is because I am worried about copyright with music

me I love music and I would really like to react to lots of like music videos in

that but they all fall under copyright and copyright is a problem so I am just

a little worried but I'm going to make this a little bit choppy as I am

watching this because this video is copyrighted and I don't want to be

striked for it so I'm going to have lots of cuts going through this reaction

there hopefully I don't get flagged for this video I don't know what to expect for

this I don't Know so um yeah let's just get into it alright let's get into this

he sounds good but I want to hear Dato

oh my goodness oh oh oh I really love this performance to me what I bought

from a video um it seemed to be like a love story between two people

it felt sad it really is felt I felt emotion in this song I could feel like

sadness and God it was just so good I don't know how to elaborate on this but

there was heart and soul in this video that like the background instruments the

piano the whole setting it was just absolutely fantastic it really builded

the motion and yeah I didn't think I was going to get emotional but I did me

I'm very I'm very sensitive to this kind of stuff it really it really gets me it

tugs at my heartstrings but I love that though because it is good to feel when

you're watching something it it really shows so much like this video showed so

much to me it gave me a lot of just thoughts and emotions and yeah I'm just

blown away by this the vocals of these two people singing in the video were

just like they were made to sing together this video really touched my

heart as the last video did with the Whitney Houston as I said in the last

video with Damasus performance you can hear someone

putting emotion into a song like when when you sing you can hear it in their

voice you are able to understand in a way although I didn't know what they

were saying I still could kind of understand that what the emotion they

were going for I don't know but it was just Oh

Dato's voice is like golden it's really sweet I love Dato's voice and also the

other guy's voice Faizal Tahir I think his name was he also had a really great

voice and when they both song together it made it it made it for me

it was just ah it was wonderful um I just I felt I felt every word I

felt like oh I'm trying to elaborate on how I feel and it's it's really

difficult it is it's so difficult what I can say is I love this performance where

at the start the guy was singing he sounded great

along with their Dato had a certain tone in their voice that just made it it

was very sweet and very touching and I fell in love and I❤️ the setting I

loved the whole castle setting and also what Dato was wearing it was

fabulous I must say blown away blown away by this performance that's that's

what I can say because it really really got to me and it just blew me away of

how great this was although I don't understand what what the meaning of the

video was but I can kind of have an idea I'm guessing that it was like a bit of a

love story between two people and I'm probably wrong like feel free to let me

know like what was the real meaning but yes yes yes and yeah guys I'm just

stunned and baffled and just oh music is amazing isn't it

music amazing how it can make you feel and it can bring you down and up it can

give you all kinds of emotions and I love that I love that it's anyway guys

Re-Defining Folk Music (2017) - Duration: 7:46.

People tend to think of traditional stuff as just really old,

and then the folk stuff as the new stuff.

But, to me, it's more of a contiuum.

And I don't think that

necessarily there's a big difference between folk and traditional.

Both imply a connection to the past.

Folk musicians perhaps

the concept of tradition is particularly

to the fore.

I don't think you can ever forget

the roots of music and where it all came from.

I'm particularly fond of the 19th century stuff.

The sort of, melancholic sadnes of a lot of them.

Sad melodies, but very beautiful melodies

that really drew me intially to Welsh folk music.

And I tend to still use those kind of things in my own music, as well.

I like to keep things as they are.

This stuff is really beautiful anyway.

All artists are working within a tradition.

In the sense that they know what has gone before them in their own particular genre,

even if they're jazz musicians or classical musicians.

They know where they sit.

Where their music sits within what has gone before and

maybe have their own ideas about where they want to take it in the future.

The group that I sing with, Landless.

You don't hear harmony singing in traditional music.

In Ireland in particular.

And the harmonies that we make a lot of times there's discords in them.

Which you don't hear either, so

that in a sense that is actually making contemporary folk music.

In my mind, it just feels like something that's natural.

It doesn't feel like we are forcing it or we decided that we were gonna

sing folk songs and try and make them sound a little bit weird.

It's just something that happened.

It's just the way that things are expressed in the traditional Welsh music.

I kind of tend to use similar expressions or

take familar expressions and twist them around or turn them into something else.

So most of the albums, for example,

that I release will be roughly 50/50 Welsh and English.

I think it's definitely important to realize who you are as a musician.

What's important to you.

Kelly Jones from Stereophonics.

His voice, the way, his tone of voice

the way he sings. I suppose I would take a lot from that there.

Lyrically, it would probably be like, Bob Dylan.

James Vincent McMorrow and sort of artists like that.

You can go from there, it helps you understand who you are,

and what direction you're going in.

This is for all you who have visited Belfast for the first time.

It's a cool city.

Get drunk as hell and do whatever you want.

Joining different folk bands, playing with different musicians.

Playing different styles of music just to see what felt right.

But I always came back to the folk music

cause I always thought it was fun.

What we're trying to do is basically

take trad by the scruff of the neck

and drag it out

Nirvana: Come As You Are.

We play that in a folk version, ya know,

because we think it's a great tune and we're just playing it our way, as if

we'd play all our music.

To me, it's always there.

To me, it's a resource that people can draw on.

And that is the important thing.

You know, so you get young songwriters

who really find this stuff and then grow out of it.

And grow something out of it.
