Hi! Welcome to BENTEN
Today for the third season of Tokyo Ghoul
which will come out soon
We decided to talk about the atmosphere of this Manga
and more specifically about cafe in Tokyo
Let's go
So what interesting in Tokyo Ghoul is the manga is ultra violent, agressive and oppressive
and the only moment when there is a bit of peace is when they reach the "Antique"
Indeed there is only in the Antique where you can feel this atmosphere of peace and calm
You can actually find in Tokyo and that's what we will trying to show you here
So this cafe is quite different than the other cafe we will talk about later in this video
it is more modern but we can find this atmosphere very calm
with some great music very appreciable, always jazz or classic
So now we are going to Ikebukuro
we saw on internet that the "Antique" was inspired by a cafe in there
It might be close but we'll see how's going
So we are leaving from Harajuku to Ikebukuro and we will take the JR Line
How's going mate?
Ikebukuro
So we went to the "Antique" but as expected, it's actually closed and looks really different now
Not a big deal but we better go to some different cafe
which looks more like the original cafe from the manga
We will go to see that more in Koenji, we have some good address
So the manga is taking place in Ikebukuro more or less
so we can feel the hyperactive atmosphere of Ikebukuro
there are many people everywhere, it's moving a lot,
it's a bit underground, there's some tunnel and big buildings
many people
And we can feel this in the manga between the "outdoors" in the manga
every time the scene is outside we can feel the oppression
the hero is always under pressure, always chased
so we can feel the danger of outside
at the same time there is always an aspect very safe of the coffee
So Koenji in a district more human like a village which you cannot find in Ikebukuro
which is overcrowded
and we are arriving in a very calm district even if it not looks like right now
So we just arrived in the coffee "The Nelken"
As you can see, the atmosphere is incredible which fit a lot with the traditional "Kissaten"
The owner is an old lady, she is probably more than 70 years old
And this is that atmosphere which is very important in that kind of place
it's very empty, very few people, only one person behind us
This atmosphere is really important
This is like in a sanctuary protecting from the outside of the world
Incredible!
Yeah, the atmosphere is incredible
This is a place where you can stay all day long
The coffee is a bit expensive but it's very appreciable
We cannot make much noise, we must take it easy
So this is the kind of place you must have some time
She is gonna take 15 or 20 minutes to make two coffees
But this is part of the experience
To leave this kind of crowded inhuman place of the "outside"
and reach a place which protects a lot of the outside
to find this calm atmosphere that we cannot find anywhere
which is very hard to find
And that's exactly what we find in Tokyo Ghoul
I hope you liked this episode and we could makes you feel
the contrast we can find in Tokyo which are linked with the contrast we can find in the manga
with the Ghoul etc, the outside world the "inside" world in the cafe
With Flo we have the project to talk about Japan via by the prism of the manga and his culture
So if you like the idea don't hesitate to follow us
and see you again on BENTEN
and we gonna finish our coffee
See you!
