Youtube daily how Oct 30 2018

- 30 miles north of New York City,

there's a small town haunted by the legacy

of the Headless Horseman, 200 years after his first ride.

I'm Jessica Hester, staff writer at Atlas Obscura,

and this is how a fictional town became reality.

When Washington Irving wrote "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"

in 1820, the village didn't exist,

though some of its landmarks did, like the Old Dutch Church.

He placed the story of Ichabod Crane, the schoolteacher,

and the beheaded Hessian soldier

in North Tarrytown, where the church

had been standing for centuries.

Sleepy Hollow was based on real geography,

but it wasn't on the map.

Readers were spellbound by Irving's tale

of the Headless Horseman, and soon fans started

showing up in North Tarrytown.

But when the town's massive automotive factory closed

in 1996 and took thousands of jobs with it,

the town put its future on the ballot

and voted to give itself a boost

by rebranding as Sleepy Hollow.

Now, you literally can't turn a corner

without running into the Horseman.

On a single block, we saw him on street signs,

on a police officer's badge,

on a permit tacked to a tree, on a squad car,

and on an ambulance that turned right in front of it.

He's even the mascot of the local high school,

where the sign says, "Home of the Horsemen."

Fans sometimes get married in the Sleepy Hollow cemetery,

on the bridge crossing the Pocantico River,

where the Horseman is said to have vanished.

This one isn't the original-

experts aren't sure exactly which one

Irving was writing about-but it feels old and storied,

maybe because it's so mossy and damp.

Washington Irving is also buried inside the cemetery,

and is on his third gravestone.

For years, fans chipped pieces of it off as souvenirs.

Halloween is big business for the Horseman.

The gas station across the street from the cemetery

is stocked with swag:

Horseman tee shirts, travel mugs, and key chains

are piled next to lighters and allergy meds.

The loudest example of Horseman tourism

is the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze.

It's in a nearby town, and it runs all season.

Nearly 150,000 people wander around the grounds

of an old manor house, weaving around 7,000 carved pumpkins.

It's a giant spectacle,

complete with choreographed lighting,

immersive special effects, even a creepy original score.

The whole thing is very theatrical.

But it's easy to get swept up in the magic,

no matter how cynical you are.

The Horseman's legacy is there, too.

He's in the gift shop and out in the yard,

where a soundtrack plays a loop of clomping hooves,

a whinny, and a cackle.

It's not so unusual for a town to rebrand itself,

but few have gone bigger than Sleepy Hollow.

Here, fact and fiction swirl together.

Centuries after it was written down,

the legend still draws people to the place

that inspired the story, and has now claimed it as its own.

Thanks so much for watching.

How To Build a Website in 10 Steps with Jayla Koriyan - Duration: 15:36.

- Hey guys, I'm Jayla Koriyan,

and my YouTube channel is Jayla Koriyan TV.

I'm a YouTube personality,

I'm an author, I'm an entrepreneur,

and I use Squarespace to showcase

all of those things on my website.

Let me show you how my website was created.

Since branding is everything,

I needed a website that would allow me

to do very specific things

and wrap it all into the Jayla Koriyan brand.

Squarespace did not disappoint.

The main thing I wanted my site to have

was a strong introduction

so new visitors get a sense of who I am

as soon as they landed on my homepage.

I want to be able to incorporate

and connect my social media feed

so my Instagram will automatically update

and I can provide a way for my followers

to join my community and stay updated.

Finally I want my site to offer an option

for visitors to contact me and sign up for my newsletter.

Squarespace has that option

for all of these things and more.

In this video we're going to be discussing

how to build a website

so you can design one of your very own.

Let's get started.

Like I said, Squarespace offers a bunch of great templates

to get your website in motion.

If you go to squarespace.com\templates,

you can take a look and find one that best suits you.

The template for my website is Stella.

You don't have to use my template.

You can use any that you choose.

Among all of the features that Squarespace offers,

I love the option of an Index Page

that gives more of an immersive experience.

When you first land on my site,

what you're looking at is an Index Page

to get a good idea of who I am, what I do,

and what the website is all about.

This is a fantastic design feature that collects images

and content from different pages creating a destination

where my visitors browse content from sub-pages.

There are a few options of Index Pages

but my website utilizes the stacked feature.

I'll get back to the design of this Index in just a moment,

but as you scroll you'll see Let's Get to know Each Other

where you should go for my About page.

Scrolling down a little more,

there is some information

and a link to my book, and e-course,

and just under that is a link to my masterclass

for launching your YouTube career.

These are all features that are most important to me

and what I like to provide and convey to my audience

on first impression.

For instance if they want a five-second

elevator pitch of who I am,

my Index Page should include all of this.

Let's talk a little bit about

how to put an Index together.

So what you want to do

is go to your Home menu and click Pages.

Click the plus icon and then click Index.

Give your Index a title and hit Enter.

Hover over the Index and click the gear

to adjust the Index's Page Settings.

It's really simple to add pages to your Index.

Within the Pages panel,

click the Add section within your Index.

When you create a new page in your Index,

the menu will show you

what kinds of pages are available

for the template you chose.

If you're using the Stacked Index like my website,

click the Title in the Pages panel

to scroll to the section in that Page Preview.

When it's time to add content,

all you have to do is hit the Edit Annotation.

When you look at the Pages panel,

the order they're displayed

reflects the order that the pages

will show up in your Index.

Let's say this order isn't working for you,

and say you want to move these around.

It's no problem at all.

All you need to do in your Pages panel

is drag and drop pages to rearrange their order.

If you want your website to be like mine

where my Index Page is my homepage,

all you have to do is hover over

the Index Page Title in your Pages panel,

click the gear icon and scroll down in the Basic tab

and click Set as Homepage.

That's it.

You now have a homepage that gives your visitors

a nice preview of everything that you have on your site.

One more thing that I want to show you

really fast about the Index Page,

when you scroll down and you see the page about

I've Learned A Lot from My YouTube Career,

I want to show you how this was made.

First off, I love the photo,

taken by the super talented photographer Clicker Fist.

What you're looking at is an Image Block

added to my page content

which makes it really simple

to have a design like this.

Let me show you how it's done.

Go to your Page Content and hit Edit.

From there click an insert point

and select the Collage option from Image Layout.

When you do this,

you'll be prompted

to upload the image you want,

and add any information in the text box

so it overlays the image.

I love the way it looks.

It gives that little extra design element.

Once you start putting blocks of elements into your Index,

let's head over to the Style Editor.

All you have to do is click on Design

and then click on Style Editor.

The great thing about every template from Squarespace

is that the elements on the site are meant to be changed.

Squarespace wants you to customize them.

Once you have a template and homepage,

it's important to make changes in your Style Editor next.

This really allows you to make important changes

to your site right off the bat

so you don't have to focus on them as much later on.

Also really important,

you can always change elements

in your Style Editor at any point

so you aren't stuck with these.

Let's go ahead and make changes

to a very important design element,

the Color Scheme.

The Style Editor makes it really simple to make changes.

For example if you hover and then click on

the Site Header at the top of the website,

the design elements for the header automatically appear.

This is where you can change the fonts,

the color, the spacing of everything.

Have fun when deciding these.

You want them to look good.

The color of the header on the site

was changed to this beautiful pink.

If you take a look at the Color Editor,

you can see the exact shade that was used.

Here is a quick tip that will save you loads of time.

If you find a shade of a particular color you love,

and you want it to appear elsewhere in the site,

you can open up the Color Editor,

highlight the exact number

shown on the bottom of the window

and hit Copy.

When you want to change a color

of another element to this exact shade,

you can just hit Paste

without having to guess it

if it's the right color.

For the navigation across my site,

I really wanted the font Rollerscript.

I think it fits really well into the design.

It's stylish and playful, I love it.

For the font on the header, Henderson Sans was used.

These two fonts really play off each other in a great way.

They're fun but convey the information

I want the visitors to know.

The Style Editor is great for anything

you want to change the appearance of.

No matter how small the detail,

from the size of your social media icons

to the width of your site's borders,

you can do it in the Style Editor

and make your site look the way you want it to.

Having a following on YouTube

and updating my fans through videos

has been incredibly important to my business.

I wanted my website to reflect this,

and I couldn't believe how easy it was

to embed videos from my YouTube channel

on my Lifestyle Page through Squarespace.

Instead of having to upload a video file,

Squarespace makes it really simple

to create a Video Block on your site,

especially if you already upload your videos

to YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, and Animoto.

What makes it even better is that

there is more than one way to do it

depending on what you want out of your site.

You can add your videos to the Video Blocks,

Gallery Blocks, Gallery Pages,

Project Pages, and even Cover Pages.

For my website it made sense to utilize Video Blocks.

Once you create a new page for your videos

or if you have a page

you would like to feature a video content,

you're going to make a new Video Block.

The way to do this is select the insert point,

and within the menu, select Video Block.

A window will pop up where you'll need to enter

the URL where the video is hosted.

As soon as you paste the link,

Squarespace will automatically grab

the same video thumbnail

that is used on the video link.

If you want, you can always upload

another thumbnail instead.

In order to do so,

directly under the URL link

is a window to upload a custom thumbnail.

For this video we're just going to keep

the YouTube thumbnail that's shown.

Now you can see how the video displayed on the page.

If you look at my Lifestyle Page,

you can see that there is one large Video Block

and three smaller blocks underneath.

In order to do this,

you just repeat the process

of adding Video Blocks

and place each one next to each other.

These blocks will resize

relative to each other

so they are the same size.

Click an insert point underneath the first video.

Once again select Video Block

and enter the URL link in the window.

Now select an insert point anywhere on the page,

and again select Video Block.

But this time when you select the block,

click and drag it to the right of the lower video.

This allows you to insert it next to the block.

Now both of these are resized.

If you repeat the process one more time

and insert a Video Block next to that one,

all three of these Video Blocks will resize.

Just like my YouTube channel,

my following on social media

is integral to my business and to my brand.

I get to connect with my fans everyday

and I can't tell you how important it is.

Squarespace has made it so easy

to sync my social media feeds

directly to my website

so whenever I post anything on Instagram,

my website would be automatically updated

without having to lift a finger.

The first thing you'll need to do

is head over to your Home menu and click Settings.

Click on Connected Accounts and then Connect Account.

Select Instagram from the Social Accounts menu,

and from there you will need to log in

using your Instagram username and password.

Just so you know, you can do the same thing

with your Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr,

LinkedIn, Facebook, and even Snapchat accounts.

Once you have your Instagram account connected,

go to the page where you want to feature

your Instagram photos.

Select an insert point

and scroll down the menu

to Social Blocks.

There you will select Instagram and click.

Squarespace has done a great job of giving options

for how these photos are displayed.

In the Design tab there are four different options,

Slideshow,

Carousel,

Grid,

and Stacked.

As you can see my site has Grid.

Depending on which display you choose,

Squarespace gives you more options within that display.

You can choose to have your Instagram post

automatically transitioned or not.

You can have Next and Previous buttons.

You can have Squarespace automatically crop images,

add captions if you want.

It even have your content open up in a new window.

Once you have your Instagram block

looking the way you want it to,

every time you post something to your account,

it will show up at the same time on your website.

You don't manually have to update your Squarespace website.

This is a fantastic tool for the social media

savvy people out there like myself.

My book Pretty and Educated

is a really great complement

to the rest of the content

I create on my YouTube and social media.

I want all of my visitors to know

where they can buy my book

if they didn't want to buy it

directly from my Squarespace site.

So there are links to Amazon page.

For those of you who want to create a hyperlink

or button that would direct your visitors

to the merchandise page like Amazon,

I've got you covered.

It's really straightforward.

Let's talk about the hyperlinking first.

Go to the page where your link will be featured.

On the page click an insert point and hit Text.

Enter the text for your link

and then click and drag

to highlight the text you want to link.

Click the link icon in the toolbar

and a link editor will open up.

Enter the URL in the window and click Add Link.

That's it.

Now your visitors will be directed

to where you want to send them.

When you want to add a button, it is just as easy.

On your page click an insert point

and select Button from the menu.

A text box will pop up where you'll enter

what you want the box to say,

and just below that

is where you can place your URL link.

Depending on the layout of your page,

you can also make the size of the button

small, medium, or large.

Once you hit Apply, you're good to go.

Just like the hyperlink,

a visitor clicking a button

can be redirected to another page.

I wanted to make it easy for my visitors and followers

to be able to stay in touch,

so my contact page has a Form Block

that allows people to reach out

and also sign up for my newsletter

whenever I have updates.

When you build your site on Squarespace,

the Form Block is a simple way to set your contact page up

and take the headaches out of designing it.

Squarespace also makes it very easy to add

certain fields to your form that you might want

and take away others that you don't need.

Create a brand new page on your site,

click an insert point and scroll down

until you see Form Block.

Here Squarespace has a preset list

of fields that automatically come up.

Take a look at these and make sure the fields

request the right information that you need.

Form Blocks are also great

if you want your followers to take a survey,

take a poll, fill out an application and more.

From there all you need to do is set up

a storage option and the email addresses

you want these forms to be forwarded to,

and you're all set.

I know I've gone over

a lot of information in this video

but I want to leave you with one

really important feature Squarespace offers

and that is Analytics.

Squarespace offers the users

super detailed information

about key details of the site.

Go to the Homepage and select the Analytics button,

and you'll find an array of information

Squarespace gives you about your site,

how many visitors you had, which pages get the most hits,

what's the most popular content on my site, and more.

It is tools like this that help me to know

what on my site is doing well

and what could use a little more attention

to attract visitors.

By clicking on Geography,

you can see where visitors are based.

As an author, that might help me decide which cities

I should try to visit during a book tour.

I love this aspect that Squarespace offers

to all of their clients.

So that is how my website was built.

Make sure you guys just have fun with it and be creative.

If you guys have a Squarespace site, I would love to see it.

Make sure you guys subscribe to my YouTube channel.

And thank you Squarespace

for having me and featuring my website.

Bye guys.

How To Break A Bad Habit (Catholic Speaker Ken Yasinski) - Duration: 4:05.

- Hi, guys, this is Ken Yasinski from Catholic Speaker .com.

Today, let's chat about how to break a bad habit

and three questions we need to ask ourself

to experience change.

(calm music)

Is there an area of your life that needs change?

Maybe it's a habit, maybe you've got a vice,

maybe it's an attitude or a way of thinking

that you know is just not good for you

or it's not good for other people

and so you wanna change that.

Well, here's three questions that we need to ask ourself

before we experience change in life.

First question, number one, do you want to change

because there's a difference

between knowing we should change and wanting to change.

Saint Augustine said, "Lord, give me chastity,

just not yet."

Some people wanna lose 50 pounds but 50 years down the road

or other people, they got a vice

but they're just having too much fun with it

and they just don't wanna kick the habit

and so there's a difference between knowing we should change

and wanting to change.

Now, how can we get that motivation to change?

Well, I would suggest you watch my other video on this

but here's a quick little idea.

Visit your default future.

If you continue down this road,

what is your life gonna look like

five years, 10 years, 50 years down the road?

That might give you a little bit more motivation

to want to change.

Question number two, do you have the ability to change?

Inspiration gets us going but education keeps us growing.

Now, some people think they gotta break the bad habit.

No, you got to grow out of it and to grow out of it,

you have to learn the opposing virtue.

So you got a vice on one side.

You just can't kick the vice.

You have to learn the opposing virtue and learn about it

and then apply strategies to grow out of that vice.

For example, let's say lust.

You have to instead of breaking that habit,

you have to learn on this side the virtue of chastity.

If you struggle with overeating

then you have to learn and acquire

the virtue of moderation and temperance.

Many people hope to change but hope is not a strategy.

You have to acquire the skills and the knowledge set

in order to grow out of the habit.

You see, again, inspiration gets us going

but education keeps us growing.

We grow out of the habit.

Number three, when will you change?

If you want to change and you have the ability to change

then when will you change because if you want to

and have the ability but don't have a date,

all you've got is a dream

but a dream with a date becomes a goal.

You need a date.

Some time later becomes never.

So how do you get it a little bit more solidified?

We can write that date down.

This is the date that you're gonna start working on change

and acquiring those skills.

You can also then tell a friend.

The other thing is this.

If you keep on putting off that date of taking action,

the more likely change will never happen.

The longer we go in one direction,

the harder it is to turn around

because we got momentum going in one direction.

So the best time to turn that U-turn, to make that U-turn,

the best date is today.

The best time for change is right now.

So my friends, if you want to change,

you have the ability to change, pick the date.

Make it today

and hopefully this helps you live the Catholic life.

My name is Ken Yasinski from catholicspeaker.com.

Thanks for watching.

How to Make Chocolate Mirror Glaze | The Great Canadian Baking Show - Duration: 2:02.

BRUNO: Today I'm gonna show you how to make a beautiful

and shiny chocolate mirror glaze.

We call it a mirror glaze because if you look at it,

you can fix your hair, and look how beautiful you are.

First put the gelatin leaves into cold water.

You're gonna use cold water because if it's a bit too warm,

it will melt and dissolve the gelatin.

I'm gonna add the cream

into my warm water and glucose

and then the cocoa powder.

We're gonna use a spatula and gently stir it.

If I use a hand whisk

we're going to incorporate a lot of air bubbles.

That's gonna take away the shine of the whole chocolate glaze.

So now it's simmering.

I'm gonna remove it from the stove for a minute.

Gonna start to work on my gelatin.

Be sure to remove all the water

and then add the gelatin into the chocolate glaze.

Once the gelatin is dissolved,

I'm gonna pass the whole mixture

through a very fine strainer.

You have to pour with confidence.

Pour all at once in one motion.

Notice the consistency

and how shiny the glaze is.

Give a very slight tapping.

The cake is glazed perfectly.

It's shiny.

It has this beautiful gloss.

I can see myself in the mirror and more importantly,

there are no bubbles.

And from there you can decide to decorate it the want.

Add some berries, and your cake becomes a rock star.

How To Easily Add Punch To Your Drums - BehindTheSpeakers.com - Duration: 8:45.

Keep watching to learn how to easily add punch to your drums.

Hey, this is Jason from Behind The Speakers.

And before we dive in, make sure you grab my free drum mixing cheatsheet, which is packed

with more tips and tricks that will take your drums to the next level.

Click the link above or in the description below to download this free cheatsheet now.

So tell me if this sounds familiar.

You listen to your favorite records, and the drums always sound super punchy and impactful.

The kick feels like it just cuts through the mix, and the snare hits you right in the face.

And then when you listen to your mixes, the drums sound soft and mushy, and they don't

really cut through the mix.

Now if this sounds like you, if this is the problem that you're struggling with, the

solution is compression.

Compression is one of those tools that we can actually use to shape and manipulate the

punch and the impact of our drums.

And if we're trying to make our drums cut through the mix more, trying to add that punch

and the impact that we're looking for, compression is the way to do it.

But here's the thing about compression that makes it tricky.

So the settings that you choose when you're applying compression are absolutely crucial.

Because the same compressor can actually add punch to drums, but it can also take it away

depending on the settings you choose.

So it's not enough just to add compression to a drum track if you're trying to make

it punchier, you actually have to make sure that you know exactly what you're doing

when it comes to compression.

And the most important parameter that you absolutely need to get right if you're trying

to add punch and impact to your drums is the attack time.

The attack time on a compressor will control whether the compressor adds punch to drums

or takes punch away from drums.

So in this video I want to go into the attack time control in a little bit more detail,

and show you exactly how you can use it to add more punch and impact to your drums.

So I have three different snare drum tracks here.

It's just a snare sample, so take a listen.

This is dry without any processing.

I'm going to loop this so it'll loop.

And you can see here I have three different versions of this same snare track.

So this one is just dry without any processing, and then I have a duplicate here, and I've

added a compressor.

In this case I'm using the Oxford Dynamics compressor, but you can use any compressor,

doesn't really matter.

And you can see here I've set the attack knob to go as fast as possible.

So you can see here 0.52 milliseconds.

So basically what we're telling the compressor to do when we use a fast attack time, is whenever

the signal, whenever the sound gets louder than the threshold, that's the number right

here, whenever the sound gets louder than -30 dB, we want the compressor to clamp down

and pull down that sound right away, almost immediately.

That's what a fast attack time says.

So we want the compressor to turn down the sound right after it exceeds the threshold,

right away.

We don't want it to wait at all.

Now if we go back to the actual ProTools window here and I zoom in a little bit, you can see

that if you look at the waveform, right at the beginning of that snare hit is a big spike

right over here.

And what that's called is the transient.

That's the initial punch and impact right on the beginning of that hit.

And so with a fast attack time, we're basically telling the compressor to turn down that transient

because that's the loudest part of the sound.

So that transient's going to be above the threshold, which means when that compressor

reacts, because it's pulling down the sound right away, as soon as the sound exceeds the

threshold, so right when that transient hits, the compressor's going to jump in and say

okay, now we need to turn down the sound.

And so the result is that we actually turn down the punch and the impact.

So even though we're using compression, because we've set it up with a fast attack

time, it's actually in this case doing the opposite of what we want.

We're turning down the punch and the impact.

So I want to compare this snare drum sound with a fast attack compression to the original.

So I'm just going to flip back and forth, and I want you to listen to the punch and

the impact.

And notice with a fast attack compression how the punch and the impact right at the

beginning of that snare drum actually goes away.

So take a listen.

So all that thwack, that punch right on the beginning of the snare gets flattened out

completely because the compressor's turning down that transient right at the beginning

of that drum hit.

On the other hand, I have this same snare sound here on a third track, and I've set

the compressor up with a slow attack time.

So basically what this is telling the compressor to do is when the signal gets louder than

the threshold, we want the compressor to wait a little bit before it turns down the sound.

We don't want it to jump in right away and turn it down immediately, we want it in this

case to wait 15 milliseconds.

And so the result, zooming in again and looking at the waveform, is that the compressor actually

waits.

And it looks over this initial punch or impact, and waits a little bit before it grabs the

sound and turns it down.

So what ends up getting turned down is not this transient right at the beginning of the

sound, but the rest of the drum sound.

So the tail of the drum sound actually gets turned down, but the transient gets left there.

And so now when we turn up the sound after using makeup gain, what we're actually turning

up is the transient.

We're making the transient louder.

So we turn the tail up back to its original level using this makeup gain, but the transient

actually becomes louder, because the compressor didn't actually touch that at all.

So it's almost as if we've boosted this transient right on the beginning of the snare

drum hit.

So the effect is that we actually add more punch and impact to the sound by using a slow

attack compressor.

So I want to take a listen now, and I want you to compare this snare drum with a slow

attack compression, and we'll compare it with the fast attack.

And I want you to notice how much more punch and impact we get on the snare drum sound

with the slow attack versus the fast attack.

Let's take a listen.

We'll start with the fast attack.

So see how all that punch and impact and that thwack right at the beginning of the snare

drum hit comes back with that slow attack time?

That's the key to adding punch and impact to drums.

It's all about the attack time.

So we can use a compressor, but if we haven't set it up with a slow attack time then we're

actually going to end up doing the opposite of what we want in this case.

If we're trying to add punch and impact to drums, a fast attack time is going to take

that away.

So here's the big takeaway from this video.

If you want to add punch to drums, make sure that you're using a slow attack time.

On the other hand, there are times when you want to remove punch from drums.

Maybe the drums sound too punchy.

And in this case, you actually want to use a fast attack time.

So you can use the compressor to turn down that punch to make the drums sound like they

hit a little bit softer.

So attack time is the key here.

If you're trying to add punch to drums, then you want to make sure that you get that

parameter right.

We're going to teach you how to do a chin-up pullover.

Hi, I'm Girl With Heart Ambassador, Natalie.

And I'm her little sister, Savannah.

And today, we're going to teach you

how to do a chin-up pullover.

The first thing we have to look at is our hand placement.

When we grab the bar, we need to have our hands cupped

like when you're swimming, 'kay?

And then you get a good grip on the bar.

Savannah, can you do that for me?

Okay.

Now that we have our hands on the bar,

we need to do a chin-up.

Here you go, good job.

Okay, keep your legs together.

Now that we're in the chin-up,

we need to flip around the bar, and that's the fun part.

Good job.

As a recap, you put your hands on the bar,

do a chin-up, and then you flip over

into the front laying position.

If you're having trouble flipping over,

just remember to keep your legs and all of your body tight.

I hope you enjoyed learning how to do a chin-up pullover.

How to Plant & Mulch a Tree |April Rose |Central Texas Gardener - Duration: 11:21.

- Well, planting a tree is one of the most hopeful and helpful things you can do for

your family, for your neighborhood, and your city.

And right now, we're gonna be talking about Texas Arbor Day and tree planting with April

Rose from the City of Austin Urban Forestry Department.

And she's the urban forest coordinator.

Is that correct?

- [April] Yeah, urban forest health.

- Okay, well it's great to have you with us.

And why is Arbor Day in autumn in Texas?

- Great question.

Yeah, it's celebrated at different times in different communities, but in Texas, the best

time of the year to celebrate Arbor Day is really the fall because we can plant trees

in the fall, and they can spend a little bit of time growing and getting some roots established

in the surrounding soil before they go dormant.

And then leaves emerge in the spring, and then they have a little bit of a jump start

on their ability to access water from the surrounding soil when the spring growth demands

begin.

- And I always say, it gives 'em a head start on their first Texas summer.

- [April] Yeah, exactly.

- Which is really I think the number-one challenge any young tree faces.

- Yeah, that period of establishment is real.

I mean, there is transplant shock.

When a tree gets taken out of a container and put into the ground, it loses a certain

amount of roots.

And so there is a period of time, a couple of years, where it really needs water, usually

once a week.

Maybe you can taper it down to once every two weeks.

You taper that off, but you need to kind of allow that acclimation period, that establishment

period.

- Everybody needs a little TLC when they're young, right?

- Yeah, yep.

- So, there are so many good reasons to plant trees.

For homeowners, as I indicated, it's a gift to the planet, it's a gift to your family,

it's many reasons.

- Right.

I agree with that sentiment, and I think that it's a really beautiful tradition and value

to share and to demonstrate to your family, to your community, to the people in your network,

that this is important to me and I'm willing to spend my volunteer time and energy giving

back to my community because I want to leave it better than I found it.

And it's just a way to acknowledge that we're here to tend the earth, and we leave it for

the next generation.

And we need to in urban areas really facilitate that succession, because it doesn't happen

sometimes in the best ways if left unattended.

Then we end up with not enough tree or a whole bunch of invasive species or different scenarios.

So we have to kinda facilitate that regeneration in urban areas so that we get new, young trees

coming on to replace the aging, maturing canopy.

- Let's talk about some of the dos and don'ts of actually planting.

You've got me sold.

I'm gonna plant another tree this fall.

- [April] I'm preaching to the choir.

- Yeah, I think you are.

But digging a hole for a lotta people is like, well, the container's only this big.

Now I only need to plant down and to dig a hole that big.

What's the latest recommendation?

- Yeah, so generally, if you have a five-gallon container, it's about a foot wide.

And so you want your hole to be about three feet wide.

You want it to be about three times as wide as your container.

And that allows the soil around that young root ball to be broken up and more accessible

as the roots are trying to explore that surrounding soil.

Because many, many more roots are gonna be growing laterally than they are to be growing

down.

So yes, some roots grow down, but the majority of the roots stay in that top 12 to 18 inches

of soil.

So your hole should be about three times as wide as your root ball, and your depth should

be no deeper than the root ball itself.

So if you're doing a container, which many people do, you take it out of the container.

You brush off the excess soil that's often at that surface until you find that taper

where the trunk begins to flare out to those lateral roots.

And it's often buried by two, three inches of soil.

It just happens in the nursery as they pot things up and add soil.

So you remove the excess soil.

And sometimes you get that tree out of the container, and you thought your root ball

was a foot deep, and it's actually only eight inches deep.

- Sure.

- So you might have to backfill your hole a little bit and really tamp that soil down

so that you're setting your root ball on a nice, firm surface that's not gonna then settle.

- And I'd like the surface of the soil from the container to be about an inch above the

surrounding.

- Yeah.

A little too high is definitely better than too deep.

- Right, and then--

- Absolutely.

- People often over-bury their trees.

So, big question a lot of people have is, what do you backfill with?

And what's your best recommendation on that?

- The best thing is to try to limit your backfill to just whatever came out of the hole.

And in Texas, sometimes we end up with a lot of rocks and things, and so sometimes we're

scraping the grass and trying to find enough material to put back in the hole.

So, if you need to add additional materials, you could add a tiny bit of compost or--

- [Tom] At the top of the hole especially.

- Yeah, but you really don't wanna be backfilling with rich compost because then the roots just

get kind of babied, and they don't really move out into the surrounding soil.

You want them to be well-acclimated to what their new environment is like.

So, I mean, if you need to backfill, I would say you could amend with a little bit of soil.

But you don't want something that's super rich, so.

- The first time I water a plant in, I like to use liquid seaweed and SUPERthrive, but

no hardcore fertilizers.

Do you feel like that's appropriate?

- Yeah, so, it's a great point.

People often think when a tree is planted, I should be fertilizing.

What should I be doing?

Really watering it in well with compost tea or something like that, liquid seaweed, is

gonna get it off to a great start.

But those are not really high-nitrogen, phosphorous, or potassium products, and so--

- Right, it's just for the life of the soil.

- Right, it's really just benefiting the microbial action.

You're just sort of in a way helping to inoculate or enhance the soil life because that is the

magic.

If you have rich, healthy soil, that is what your tree needs in order to thrive, so.

- And a mistake that a lotta people make 'cause they've seen bare-root trees in nurseries

is they'll bring their container plant home, and they'll knock all the soil away from the

roots.

And I'm like, why would you do that?

But it's a common mistake.

- You know, I don't even know that it's a mistake, per se.

I have seen that practice done.

It's called root washing.

And it can be a good way to really get in and examine the root ball condition and correct

things that are often maybe encircling or girdling, so.

What the trick, though, is, if you're gonna do that, you really have to create a slurry

of soil to backfill into those roots so they don't have air pockets.

So, not many people will do that.

That is something more so that you see with bare-root fruit trees.

But it's often maybe done if you suspect that there might be, say you're planting a 45-gallon

tree.

Well, you know that thing's been bumped up along the way.

And so it's not a bad idea--

- That makes sense.

- To really wash it out, because that stuff is really more of a growing medium.

It's not really soil, per se.

It's something that drains quickly and can hold some nutrients.

So it's not a bad idea.

I've seen it done and demonstrated.

And you can get in there and see a lot of things that you can correct, and you can help

to get the roots then flared out, growing in that lateral direction that we're looking

for.

- Well, we were talking about watering the plants.

And regularity on that when you first plant the tree, I think your advice, once a week

really matters.

Talk a little bit about how to water.

'Cause I think watering slow really is important.

- Yeah, because we don't wanna just be putting the volume down and not thinking about how

it's infiltrating the soil.

So, there's different ways you can apply.

If you're gonna put down 25 gallons of water, you can put a couple of five-gallon buckets

out there and drill holes in the bottom and fill them, and you're applying that water

really slowly--

- I think that's the best way.

- Right there.

- Yeah.

- It really depends on the size of the tree and when it's planted.

I mean, I planted a little, baby sapling four-inch root ball tree at my house.

I planted it in the fall, and I watered it a couple a times, it rained, and that was

it.

I mean, I water it every now and then in the summer.

But that was 10 years ago, and that tree is 20 feet tall now, and I barely had to give

it supplemental water because it was such a young tree and it got established very quickly.

It was able to get the roots that it needed growing to support the crown.

If you plant a 45-gallon tree, you really need to keep that root ball moist for several

weeks.

Not saturated, but keep it moist.

So it takes a lot more babying or nurturing or monitoring the bigger your tree is.

- Talk about mulching trees.

This is another common mistake.

You see mulch piled up around the trees.

- Yeah, it's a really common mistake, and you see entire neighborhoods sometimes, where

somebody thinks it looks good or is the right way to do it, and then there's kind of a domino

effect.

But it's really, you don't want that volcano kind of cone around the base of your tree.

You'd really look for something more like a donut, where there's an opening in the middle,

and the trunk of the tree, you can see the root flare, you can see bare mineral soil,

there's a gap, and then there's mulch.

The whole point of mulch is to improve the rooting environment.

It's not to help the tree trunk.

-Exactly.

- So we want the mulch where the roots are, and the roots are gonna be laterally out.

Anywhere from a newly planted tree, they're pretty close, but if you think about a mature

tree, your roots are beyond the drip line.

So, three inches of mulch starting about five to six inches out from the trunk for as far

out as you can go is gonna enhance that root zone.

As that organic matter breaks down, it feeds the soil.

It limits the heating of the soil.

It helps insulate the temperature.

So it provides a lot of benefits for the soil.

- I don't like ending on a down note, but we have just a few seconds left.

And there's a critter that's moving into Texas that people need to be aware of.

- So, we've got emerald ash borer.

That's been confirmed in Northeast Texas.

It's devastated ash populations throughout North America.

We know it's coming.

We want people to know if they have ash trees how to identify them and how to take proactive

steps to limit their risk of losing their trees.

- Okay, I'm gonna wrap it up on that.

- Okay.

- As I said, I hate to end on a down note--

- I'll have to come back.

- But it is such a great topic, and we really--

- It's important.

We're gonna lose a lotta ash, so.

- Well, it is sad to think about.

But we really appreciate you coming--

- You bet.

- On board and helping a lotta trees get off to a great start.

Daphne's off this week, so I'm gonna throw it back to April.

How To Get Videos Off iPhone - Duration: 7:46.

Alright, Scott. I've got some videos on my iPhone here. How do I get the videos off

of my iPhone? Where do you want to put them? I guess that's a good question.

Hm-hmm... So how'd it get them off and where to put them? Let's let's figure it

out and we'll demonstrate. Okay, you got videos on your iPhone you were saying.

Yeah, so I first want to compare it to the DSLR, that's what we're filming on

here and when we film, you know it all records right here. Just to this SD card

128 gigabyte which is amazing and on my Macbook, I just stick it on the side. I

know the brand new MacBooks. You have to have a dongle to be able to do that. But

I can get the video files directly onto my computer. Beg your pardon? So sorry it

took me a while. You know you gave me the look but anyway, alright, go ahead. So

it's straight forward. How to get videos files from here to there right - yeah. But

how do you do it with an iPhone, there's a couple little tricks actually because

if you don't know the tricks, it will actually decrease the video quality.

The programming on the Mac compresses the video files. Sorry it's not closing.

There you go. So, we're actually going to demonstrate how to do this. So

first of all, let's make a video that we want to put on our computer - okay. So I'm

going to open up my camera, go to selfie mode. Alright so today we're making an

epic video that everyone in the world is going to watch. I mean how many views you

think this video will get? Oh a good baker's dozen. Yeah, yeah a dozen. I

mean - hm-hmm. 12 to 13. Well, are we ever going post it somewhere? Well

obviously, yeah. Let's post it to Facebook - of course! Facebook... Hi guys!

Okay, so we just made an 18 second video that's probably one of our best pieces

of work. It really is. So, how do we we...We need to open up my Macbook and we

need to... You're going to go hardwired on there are you? Yeah, I don't know how to do it software -

okay you go. You could... Is there a way?An 18-second file probably isn't that big.

You could do it... I mean just do airdrop and oh airdrop.

Yeah, airdrop would actually be easy. So we're going to demonstrate two ways. Can you

do it if it's like a big 4k file though like... I don't know. Let's see I mean... I

will demonstrate two ways. You brought up... Does it degenerates the size

of the file or whatever. Airdrop doesn't. So airdrop is a better solution -

okay. But I don't know if there's limitations to file size. That's the

question that I actually... Well I mean I shoot some fairly big stuff that I just

kind of any airdrop it - yeah and it goes into downloads or wherever. I want to put

it. Well, you asked, I answered. If you here's one way the airdrop would be

a pain that I would not rely on because if I've got a lot of different

stuff on my phone then I need to backup or transfer to my computer. Let's say

it's a hundred different files, tell me would you highlight a hundred of them

and airdrop all of them at the same time? No, no. I like that... I like the cordage

approach. I think it's fine - yeah, yeah. So I guess we'll demonstrate airdrop. Okay,

so we're going to airdrop this little movie file we just made. Yeah, so let's open up

so we click this... The little... in the bottom left corner. I click on that box

with arrow and it highlights it and I can - oh there we go! It found my Macbook. There's your

Macbook. That is... I tapped on it and...

Usually it makes that noise. Mine doesn't. It did but I have mine muted. Alright, so if I

come down here to my downloads folder, you see there's the video right there.

There we are - yeah and it's it's a...So we've been watched

for one second I thought it'll have a miracle. What an amazing... There you are and I muted but we

could - oh yeah. These videos are going to do so well. I mean

look at us - yeah. That face, that's... Alright, so now we

know how to do that using airdrop which if you're going to do a single file - yeah or

a few - I mean... yeah. So now the other option is you come in here to this

Photos app not on iTunes, where is it photos... The Photos app. Welcome to photos

and it picks my iPhone. It's got lots of family stuff going on there and I want

to scroll down to the very bottom. There you go. So, I'm going to select the file

that I want to transfer and I can highlight all of them. I'm going to say

delete after... Delete items after import. I like to do that because if they're on my

computer. I don't need them on my phone anymore.

Yeah and then I'll import the one selected or the 500 selected. So I mean I

this is the system that I definitely would use if I... You know what, I've got

six months worth of videos on my phone because I have 128

gigabytes here. So often I'll have six months worth -

yeah and I'll just transfer them all and clear off my phone. I haven't... I've never

done it that way and I sometimes wish that I had. So now it's on my Macbook.

Inside of the Photos app but you actually have to get it out of the

Photos app. So you highlight it and then you come up here to export but notice

this, if I just export the one video, it compresses it, it does something weird to

it. You want to export - unmodified, original - yes and so you just hit export

and then you get to choose where as it's thinking here. I'll just save it to my

desktop and whatever name as. Export original. So then it'll export the

original, it says it's done. So here it is. Right down here. So there now I've got

two originals. One in the desktop, one on that in the downloads folder that we got

from from airdrop, yeah. So now I think we should upload

this video to Facebook and see how it does. What do you think?

Oh well if they must. Hey, I mean if we get a dozen, more than a dozen views and

it will beat our expectations. So let's go here to photo - video. How do you do this?

Oh yeah... Do you might write something about it or anything you can - of

course they will. There it is. There it is. That was the airdrop one I think. Our

biggest video production yet. I

definitely want to tag you because all your friends are going to... Alright, so...What

was this video about? We're making a video on how to get videos off the

iPhone? So I think we showed that. A couple ways. Yeah, I noticed you didn't

upload it to your YouTube channel. No, I did not. He uploaded to Facebook because

he literally has no respect at all. I couldn't possibly care less about

Facebook. Yeah - it's like the junk file. Let's put this piece of crap

out of Facebook. Well, so obviously you enjoyed this video because you're watching

us knuckleheads. Your video is ready. You can now watch it. Oh, sweet. It's going to go

viral. Comment below if you actually are interested in knowing what this video

did and I'll let you know later.

How To Fast Track Your Career - Duration: 3:11.

Are you thriving the job you love or you're just stuck in a rut that you are

undervalued underpaid? Maybe you have been searching for jobs online and

applied hundreds of jobs but even if you are qualified you rarely get interviews.

Or even if you get interviews you just can't nail a job offer. You are

approached by recruiters but you are left in limbo. How your life could look

different if you could land your dream job and have a huge spike in your salary

in three months or even less? I was in the same boat like you 14 years ago,

until one day I cracked a job code. I lended the job I loved, jumped up two

levels up, and more than doubled my salary. After that I didn't need to apply

for any jobs. I got myself headhunted for senior jobs and I even got my dream job

created for me. I transitioned into new roles and new industries with zero industry experience

and qualifications. I was a high flyer with a six-figure salary and reached the

peak of my career by the age of 38 while many of my peers are still middle

managers. "How could it be possible!?" You may ask. It is possible if you have the

right strategy, you know the steps and process I took. Sitting on both sides of

the fence for 12 years, I have known the ins and outs of recruitment. I know how the

hiring decisions are made, how the process works and more importantly I know the

flaws in the hiring process. As a headhunter working in the private equity

industry, I had the opportunity to work with the smartest and best institutional

investors and the entrepreneurs built great companies. They have shown me the

best practice in talent acquisition and also how to select the best

to build great companies.Being the head of recruitment

of a top investment firm, I personally contributed to streamlining our hiring

Airbnb Host Tips (How to Improve your Vacation Rental Photography) - Duration: 5:32.

Are you leaving money on the table with bad photos of your vacation rental?

This video will let you know if you are.

Hi, I'm Heidi Miget, and I'm a marketing strategist for vacation rental homeowners.

For easy tips and advice on how to market your rental, be sure to subscribe to this

channel for great advice.

Are your photo attracting or repelling your potential guests?

Vacation rental photos are the number one most important thing you can do for your listing.

We only have a couple seconds to grab a potential guest's attention and really photos are what's

gonna draw them in.

So today, I am going to provide three signs that it's time to update your existing photos,

and I'll give you four tips you can implement for your next photo shoot.

So here are three signs you'll want to look for to know if it's time for a new photo shoot.

Sign number one: bad quality.

This is pretty self-explanatory, but basically if your photos are dark or blurry, you definitely

want a new photo shoot to make sure your photos are bright, light and airy.

Sign number two: your photos are not staged.

So either your home looks a little cluttered, maybe it's a little messy or bare.

Basically taking the extra time to stage your photo will really, really help.

And sign number three: the quantity is wrong.

So yes, Airbnb will display up to 100 photos and Home Away will display up to 50, but just

because they allow that many doesn't mean that you actually need to use that many.

So the ideal number here is about 30 photos will nicely capture your home without boring

the potential guest.

Tip number one: clean and stage.

We talked about this a little earlier, but this is where you really want to thoroughly

clean the home before you have your shoot.

And this does include windows, counter tops, everything.

You want your home to be sparkling clean.

And make sure when it comes to staging, that you go through and you open up all of the

blinds, get as much natural light as you can, and then just try to do a few staging items.

It doesn't have to be that every room of the house is staged, but you can do things like

throw blanket on the couch, and some magazines on the coffee table.

You could put a wine glass and a cheese board out on your patio table.

Basically, you just want to make the home look cozy and lived in and let that potential

guest envision themselves in your home.

Tip number two: I talked about how you only want to select about 30 photos in your listing.

And what you'll want to do here when you get your 30 photos pared down, you want to arrange

them so that it's in the order that you would walk through your house.

You kind of want your photos to have a natural flow.

So you wouldn't want to go from the kitchen to bedroom one, to the living room to bedroom

two.

You want to have kind of your main living areas first, and then move into showing all of the

bedrooms and then move to outside.

So something that has a nice flow to it.

Tip number three: You want to choose your cover photo carefully.

This is so important because this goes back to you only have a couple seconds to really

grab that potential guest's attention from the feed, where they're looking at hundreds

of other listings along with yours.

So you might need to experiment with this a little bit, but you want to find the picture

that really captures your home the best.

This could be an exterior shot with a lake view or something that makes your home special.

You want to kind of zone in on what's that one photo that really captures what's special

about your home.

And tip number four is really hire a professional photographer.

I can personally say we waited way too long to do this.

Yes, I took photos with my iPhone 7.

They worked, they were fine, but hiring a professional photographer was really a game

changer, and just something I highly recommend to every single client.

It will definitely pay for itself.

So now you know what to do to make sure your vacation rental photos are top notch.

But how's your overall marketing strategy looking like?

If you haven't quite focused on your marketing yet, no worries, I've got you covered.

I created the Vacation Rental Marketing Roadmap, and it's my seven-step process to really optimizing

your listing.

I'll cover the most common mistakes I see, and give you a step-by-step roadmap to follow

for your listing.

WallHack, aimbot, ESP what if we prefer just click on the button HACK and open

your game again and you should be again you should be able to be able to hact in
