Remember that piano

So delightful, unusual

That classic, sensation

Sentimental, confusion

Used to say

I like Chopin

Love me now and again

Rainy days never say goodbye

To desire when we are together

Rainy days growing in your eyes tell me where's my way

Imagine your face

A sunshine, reflection

A vision of blue skies

Forever, distractions

Used to say

I like Chopin

Love me now and again

Rainy days never say goodbye

To desire when we are together

Rainy days growing in your eyes tell me where's my way

Rainy days never say goodbye

To desire when we are together

Rainy days growing in your eyes tell me where's my way

Rainy days never say goodbye

To desire when we are together

Rainy days growing in your eyes tell me where's my way

HOW to PLAY YOUR SOULS MUSIC with Oren Harris - Duration: 16:36.

Dijon: What's good fam this is your boy Dijon and this is how to be a motherfucking legend

this is the place to be for inspiration and the realization of your full creative potential.

Each episode are going to be sharing tips and insights to help you unlock the greatness

that is already inside of you.

Okay.

Dijon: All right. We're back with the new episode of How To Be a Motherfucking Legend.

I've got the man Oren Harris sitting in my living room right now we are just catching

up and I was getting to know him a little bit and he's got a wide array of interests

and is a very interesting dude. he's a self-described polymath and I'll let him tell you more about

what he does but for me it wasn't even about that, I've just ran into him several times

and I really enjoy his energy and I really enjoy what he shares on Instagram and he's

an awake dude you can see that when you look at them you can feel that when you're in his

presence. so thanks for being here!

Oren: awesome man, thanks for having me, you had me at how to be motherfucking legend,

I was like alright im in. So thank you, yes, glad to be here.

Dijon: yeah I'm glad to have you. so is there anything you want people to know about what

did you do your offering for we jump in here.

Oren: I love to help people awaken to their true self who they are beyond their name their

form their personality and from that space to express themselves through their God given

gifts and talents their souls music into the world is powerful and profoundly as possible

and to me that's that is your living Legacy. so I I do that through coaching Im a coach

to what I called legendary Souls I'm also speaker I'm an artist, trainer, a mentor all

things in the realm of transformation aimed towards that one objective ,which to me is

lends itself to us creating heaven on Earth.

Dijon: Lovely so I just heard that you also have Legend in your brands.

Oren: yes, legendary Souls.

Dijon: so legend means something specific to me but what does it mean to you being a

legend.

Oren: You know thats an interesting question, in history I think we describe is Legends

and we look at their bodies of work and that is there a legacy, but, legends almost not

a thing it's not a person even a map of the Legend is a symbol, right it's like an idea.

I remember Will Smith one time said I never want to be icon, I want to be an idea. I want

to represent a possibility, so I feel like a legend is someone who is connected to a

Transcendent purpose or Mission or energy that is Transcendence of their self and they

devoted their selves to bringing forth that art or their souls music into former. another

way to say it is Translating that inspiration in those

Visions from like light and energy into bodies of work. whether the art or speaking or music

or leadership or even a housewife and someone who clears that channel and is devoted to

being a steward to that energy beyond anything else and bring for that art to me that's legendary

and and and that's that somebody would call a legend.

Dijon: I would a hundred percent agree with that. the way I think of Legends and my favorite

artist in general are people that make higher vibrations relatable to a mass of people right

and I example I always use is Bob Marley because Bob Marley transcends music any transcends

reggae because the frequency that he carries that everyone can feel and they listen to

his music.

Oren: so he's like and I like that it's part of the definition to because he's also Representing

an idea that's in the souls of many. he's he's being a stand for something that many

people are connected to whether consciously or unconsciously connected to, you know and

so that that's what a hero is like to. it's a it's a voice putting voice putting expression

to something that is is connected as a thread throughout all Humanity that the touches our

souls in our hearts in a way that we recognize even if we don't like Love reggae, which I

do by the way.

Dijon: I hundred percent agree so you know this is a different time than when Bob Marley

was alive and I would imagine what it takes to express yourself and touch people, changes

from time to time. do you have perspective on what's important to bring out your legendary

being at this time?

Oren: Yes, I do you know I'll start with it's a matter of utilizing all of our resources

and acknowledging ourselves as a fully integrated being you know, Body, Mind, heart and spirit

we can say Body Mind heart and soul right and so we have power which is a resource in

each of those parts of ourselves and so I've seen Evolution happening where if you stretch

back far enough you know we were in the Industrial Age right and Industrial Age is very cookie

cutter very mechanistic very one-size-fits-all and even the educational system came out of

an industrial type of Consciousness which is why you know that the typical educational

type of structure is a teacher whose bestowing information we take in information you know

hopefully we apply it or we regurgitate it and actually the Latin root of the word education

is edeuce. its almost hidden in plain sight. Edeuce means to draw out from within it doesn't

mean to put in and spit out. right and so with that type of Consciousness operating

then in order to survive and thrive and create in society, in our culture, in in the marketplace

of life you know they then you just get as good as you can at that. then that gives rise

to the information age which were needy than right now in technology and distribution of

information is making that exponentially greater and so becomes this acid and so then as we

evolve in order to be able to survive and thrive in our business and our family then

it's like knowledge is power information is power he who has the most information in the

proper information ideally is going to be able to set up to win and to be able to survive

and thrive right.

And so what I've noticed happening is that, an age comes forth from the invisible realm

to the visible realm. it comes as an evolutionary impulse and so it actually starts coming way

before it becomes really manifest and definitely before it hits the masses, right and so the

idea of being a legendary Soul or really thriving is to not wait until the masses and everybody's

saying this is important and then because by the time that happens you almost have to

be, you're almost forced to catch up now right and so that's the information age so the next

wave that's coming that, I called the intuition age and I liken it

to an operating system, even like iOS just a playoff Apple for a minute it's like ,it's

like intuitive operating system right in the reason that that's key and it's not even just

a spiritual conversation like intuition were talking about Spirit now which is a huge part

of us what do you call it Spirit or the Divine or God or gut instinct it's like it's most

people agree there's something beyond the intellect, all right. is the reason that's

amplifying itself right now as something that's important to develop for self-awareness and

our self knowledge and build up that operating system is because things are changing faster

than every before and typically speaking when things are at an accelerated pace of change

and we're also because of information and Technology were inundated with information

is throwing us a lot into the unknown which for most people if they're not Adept at being

in the unknown it brings up fear and then when the eGo or the identity that's operating

primarily in mental operating System where we have a certain level of control of our

wisdom in our skill in our strength it it's like we can't keep up with the speed of changed

so then what do we do you know or we're overwhelmed with information take health for example it's

like it seems like there's one thing contradicts another like every other week. so that's only

going to be difficult and put us into a state of overwhelm or survival in direct proportion

to how much we've already tune in to the new age which is the intuition age because intuition

is simple it's like yes no it's his automatic Ninja level sifter I'm just like oh I know

what to do. right so at the center of our being we know who we are we know it's true

we know what specifically Taylor Made best for us and any life moment or any life decision,

that's gangster.

Dijon: that is gangster.

Oren: that is right. I can pause there for a moment so that's where I feel like You know

this even now penetrating into the business culture in the corporate culture even though

they might not be using the word intuition but what they're witnessing is the speed of

the Earth at the speed of change in trying to like hold together an old operating system

that's not extinct right I just think that the hierarchy of command is changing to where

the soul, the heart and intuition is the primary captain and decision maker and then the intellect

in the mind and the body which is part of a resource is like the crew the you know what

I mean it's the one carrying forth, but the the primary operating system in the way we

make our decisions in the way were processing their decisions away were navigating are the

world if we try to do that just on intellectual you know linear knowledge just based on our

own wisdom knowledge and watching like people are getting spun out do you know what mean

which then that's the contrast that is inviting us to go deeper within and one of the things

were finding deeper within Is this 24/7 always on always on time always operating never taking

a vacation internal guidance system that's like this is the best decision for me right

now and therefore the best decision for the whole.

Dijon: A hundred percent agree and that was so eloquently stated I appreciate it, I appreciate

the wisdom and just the right I feel coming out of your presence right now

Oren: for sure my pleasure

Dijon: and it goes back to what I consider to be a legend, it's basically being in touch

with yourself you know in that Industrial Age we were groomed-to-be workers right you

know to be workers and now the most important thing is honoring yourself in the moment regardless

of what seems to be popular are right and that's a hard thing for people to grasp right

because it's like that the diet is a perfect example right like from an intellectual perspective

being a vegan is a very conscious way to live right it's like easy on the planet for instance

but let's say you have type O blood type right then being a vegan not going to work for you

and your body will probably tell you that you know so you have to tune in to what is

best for you.

Oren: totally and going into tuning in another fundamental shift is Is to move from thinking

our way through life to feeling our way through life not instead of thinking but just kind

of changing the chain of command to just feel more think less because a lot of times are

thinking is Tainted is Tainted by our experiences at tainted by you know things that are even

positive like knowledge you know and it was hit-or-miss we may or may not have the best

thinking. You know to equip us for the moment but feeling is this higher intelligence more

specific and more simple simplified so that's the thing about feeling, if this was, you

know when were talking my operating system there was a manual the thing is that you know

there's not a lot of manuals out there on feeling you know most of us were not raised

to like love our feelings and understand them and befriend them and for them to be our allies

and for us to extract information from feeling so we not even been collectively groomed and

educated but I so it's kind of like feelings I'm saying this is a generalization you know

we we might need more into this consciously but feelings like this wild horse. you know

and if we treat it that way then we're going to be in survival with our feelings like trying

to manage their feelings trying to control our feelings trying, to avoid our feelings

and but the feeling is the connection into our heart and into your higher self intent

or intuition.

Dijon: The feeling is the connection into our higher self into our heart and into our

intuition.

Oren: Yes!

Dijon: right on brother, I feel like that, was a good download they only thinking im

thinking of that you just said is that I wanted like sit with a little bit more and in how

to be a motherfuking legend we try to keep it short most of the time so that we can really

absorb the different layers of meaning and flow so I think I'm going to stop it there,

but you got a little taste of Oren's energy and if you want to work with him or connect

with them there many ways to do that. can you tell people how they can connect with

you.

Oren: sure, I'm @Oren Harris on Instagram I post quite regularly and I write quite a

bit on Instagram my website is orenarris.com which is o r e n h a r r i s.com I'm also

Oren Harris on Facebook which I do Facebook lives pretty regularly and they're pretty

high powered high-impact and those are the main places that I am my virtual footprint

is out there in the world.

Dijon: Right on brother I will put those links in the show notes so you guys can click and

find out how to connect with Oren thank you so much for being here it was a pleasure.

Oren: Yea man it was awesome I enjoyed it thank you for having me.

Dijon ; yo that is this week's episode of How To Be A motherfucking Legend. I so appreciate

you being here if you enjoy the energy that we are creating and building share it with

the homies take a screenshot post on your Instagram stories just let people know about

it and if you ever want help going deeper into yourself developing yourself and doing

that with a community and with guidance head on over to programs.howtobeamotherfuckinglegend.com

and we got you. Until next time.

How Do They Make It?! Music (Mammoth Beat Organ) - Duration: 7:56.

most music today is made in factories like this one this machine is a Dunning

Underwood mammoth beat organ the makers of the machine are also its operators

every piece of music begins with a central driveshaft an operator turns its

speed dial and the beam begins to roll a second operator brings in the first

component I'm connecting to the driveshaft a wheel pumps a pair of

bellows which in turn pump air through two valves an air pipe is attached to

the first valve and the other end is attached to an organ pipe each time the

bellows pumps a note is played a second pipe is attached to the other valve one

end of this pipe is sealed so a reservoir balloon begins to fill with

air a second unit is wheeled in the wind sequencer once our balloon is

sufficiently full the other end of the pipe is attached to the wind sequencer

the pipe plays a continuous note because the balloon reservoir keeps pressure

even when the bellows take in air pegs are added to the wind sequences cans to

determine at what point in the cycle the valves open

an operator chooses for from a selection of LED organ pipes the smaller pipes

play higher notes and the larger pipes play lower notes when the wind sequencer

is offered up to the driveshaft it begins cycling through all the notes

working together our operators now produced the first piece of music for

the day

for the day's second piece alternative components must be mounted drums and

percussion are selected for the newly introduced rhythm unit a beater is

connected for each of these different drums with the beaters being controlled

by a selection of different colored cams plane cams play in 4/4 time Green cams

four divisions of five yellow cams 4 6 8 and red cams four divisions of seven the

turntable is added the gears connect meaning the platter will rotate once for

each cycle of the drive wheel a wheel module is added on to Wichita mola is

placed small wooden shakers are placed inside the tombola to roll around

continuously a special beater is used to create friction on the surface of this

TomTom drum creating a tone the pitch of the snare drum can be altered by sucking

air out of the shell cams can be hot swapped at any moment replacing one

rhythm with another a quick adjustment and the new part is in time with the new

equipment in place the next piece can begin

for the next piece the bellows are returned to the machine this time they

used to inflate a much larger balloon

the rhythmical cams are removed replaced with 2 irregular circles the drums are

reconfigured removing the sticks and adding dangling chains as the wheels

move the chains are angled over the cymbal

the wind sequencer is returned it's placed in position but not connected to

the driveshaft so the operator can select notes manually now fully inflated

the large balloon is brought round and connected to the wind sequencer the pegs

are reconfigured so that all valves can be open at the same time similarly sized

organ pipes create beat frequencies the micro tuning of each pipe can be altered

throughout the piece as the operator plucks the spring roller with a plectrum

the next piece can commence

it's been a long day at the Music Factory but there's still time for one

more piece the bass drum beta is replaced with a harder mallet an

additional spring is attached for greater tension a new set of rhythm cans

are selected and put in place a tambourine arm is attached to the

community a melodica is placed on the air sequencer Foghorn pipes are

connected to the bellows the driveshaft is started at high tempo

and the final piece commences

once the music ends it is checked by the operators for quality before being

distributed on audio cassette or sometimes played live in front of an

audience to find out more about the mammoth beat organ just visit your local

Episode 30: Arranging 1, transcribing vocal music - Duration: 12:16.

This is Maria and this is Hester. Ant together we are the CONSORT COUNSELLORS!

In Episode 28 we mentioned that María

arranged the complete Goldberg Variations by Bach for our quintet Seldom Sene.

There are many reasons why a musician may decide

to arrange a composition for a certain setting.

For us one of the most rewarding is that

by analysing, arranging, working on, and playing the composition yourself

you get to know it much better and enjoy it much more!

Although there are many publications, and arrangements for recorder available online,

it is great to have the possibility to adapt more music yourself.

This will make your ensemble unique!

Therefore, during this season we are going to have a few videos

on how to adapt, transcribe and arrange music for recorder consort.

In this way you can try your favourite repertoire with your own ensemble.

Today we are going to start with how to transcribe vocal music for your recorder consort.

Music originally written for vocal ensemble works really well on recorder consort.

Why is this? There are two main reasons: first of all

First of all, the range of the recorder is very similar to that of the human voice.

That means that the music written for voice usually fits very well.

There are no notes out of range when you play the music on the recorder.

That saves a lot of trouble and 'headaches'!

Secondly, singers and recorder players phrase and breathe in the same way.

This makes most vocal repertoire feel very natural on the recorder.

We can breathe on the same places as the singer would do,

and develop our phrases in the same way. So: natural, natural!

There is an immense wealth of vocal repertoire from all eras and from all corners of the world.

After today you will be able to play through your favourite Renaissance polyphony,

but also through any other vocal repertoire you may like.

What do you think of juicy harmonies of the 19th century?

A tiny little disclaimer: our method of transcription is purely practical.

If you are a professional musician, you may think that we miss out on some important details.

But, please: watch until the end!

Here is the beginning of a beautiful, gorgeous motet

by Tomas Luis de Victoria.

We would like to try this out with our quintet.

The first step is to check if the range of each voice

suits the range of the recorders that we have at our disposal.

We are very lucky because the editor of this choral score already set

the ranges of each voice next to the clefs.

But when you work with an edition where the range is not shown next to the clef,

simply go through the line and check the highest note and the lowest note,

keep track of those, and notate them next to the clef.

The next step is very simple:

we are just going to connect every type of voice

with the corresponding type of recorder, from bottom to top.

"Bassus" means "bass" in Latin. Would this voice fit on the bass recorder, we wonder?

The lowest note of this line is an F and the highest pitch is a B-flat.

Yes! It fits on a bass recorder - beautiful!

The voice that is marked tenor would be sung by a tenor voice,

so let's see if it fits on a tenor recorder.

The lowest note in this part is a low C and the top note is the D a ninth above.

So, this also fits!

There are two voices marked "altus", so "alto" parts. Will these parts fit on an alto recorder?

We think so! Because the lowest note is an F and the highest note is a G.

Actually, the alto parts both have the same range,

and I think they could also fit on a tenor recorder,

because the lowest note, the F, and the highest note, the G, are still within the range of a tenor!

So we can even choose which instrument we play for these voices.

In this motet by Victoria, we chose that the third line (me) plays on a tenor.

We do this because you play in the higher range of the instrument,

so that the voice sounds a little bit more bright

At the same time, the second line is played on an alto,

which is then the only Alto in the ensemble,

so this line gets a little bit of a special sound as well: more unique!

Finally we have a part called "cantus".

Sometimes in editions of Renaissance music you will also see "superius" for the top line.

These are usually parts that are good for soprano.

The lowest note in this voice is the low C

and the highest note is a 9th higher, the middle D - so that perfectly fits!

OK, so we can play this motet by Victoria on a consort of recorders

with a bass recorder, two tenors, an alto and a soprano, and that makes perfect sense!

Yes! But...

We have to be aware as recorder players that our instruments,

which are named soprano, alto, tenor and bass,

actually sound a whole octave higher than the corresponding singer.

So, when we play this motet in the setting that Hester just mentioned,

we are sounding an octave higher than a vocal ensemble.

But this is not a problem at all!

Actually it's really nice to play vocal music an octave higher than the singers would do, because it sounds lovely and angelic...

If you like to play this motet exactly in the same range as a vocal ensemble

with your recorders, you can do it too! But you need to make each instrument twice as big...

That means that the little soprano is going to become a tenor, for the top line...

...the alto that played the second line is going to become a bass...

the tenors turn into a C-bass...

...and the bass recorder becomes a contrabass!

When you try out the music with your ensemble and you have enough instruments

to try both the high option and the low version,

you can see for yourself - and hear for yourself - what the best option is for your ensemble.

To transcribe vocal music correctly and know for sure you're doing it right,

you need to be aware of this octave gap between voices and recorders.

When you work with the practical method we just used,

be especially careful with 'alto' voices

and stick to the following instructions:

When you are reading a part for alto voice and it's notated on G clef with a little 8 underneath,

then you can read on the alto recorder as you are used to.

That means that your lowest fingering, with all the fingers on the instrument,

is the F on the first space of the staff.

When the part for the alto voice is written without an octave sign below the G-clef,

you have to play your voice an octave higher than it's written.

This also means that the lower tone of your instrument is written with three additional lines below the staff.

Same result, different way of reading! Comme ci, comme ça! ¿Qué será sera...?

If you are not particularly interested in understanding exactly

why and how all of these octaves work,

then you can just start working with the practical method we described.

However, if you are interested in understanding how it all works

with the actual pitch of the singers and the pitch of the instruments we use,

we recommend you to download the PDF through the link in the video description below and start analysing.

We hope you will give our method a try, and when you do, we would love to hear the results!

Send us the score or a recording of your transcription

and we will give you a shout out in one of our upcoming episodes!

If you cannot wait to start working on the tips we have given you today,

you're gonna need to find some great choral music to arrange.

A great place to get started is the Choral Public Domain Library, also known as ChoralWiki.

This is a great resource for choral music with compositions from all eras and from all around the world.

Try their advanced search engine or browse through one of their thematic collections:

Christmas music, Easter music, Summer music, Winter music...

Another great page, if you are interested in music from the Spanish Renaissance,

(although they also have more things) is tomasluisdevictoria.org

Here you will find, among other choral music,

the complete works by Morales, Guerrero and Victoria.

See you next time! ¡Adiós amigos! Doeiii!
