Nemere from Sátoraljaújhely made their first appearance in Debrecen in June. We talked about their debut material Vérmező with them.

Greetings! You are watching Headcrusher Underground Music Magazine.

Our guest is NEMERE from Sátoraljaújhely.

Hey guys, we are glad to finally meet you.

If I'm not mistaken you started as a band in 2007, created 2 demos, and then a few years later you kind of disappeared. What exactly happened then and why did you guys stop?

We only just started the band in 2007 and still had lineup changes. The lineup finalized in 2009.

Then we released our 2 demos and recorded the album called Vérmező in 2012. Also during the same summer when recording this album some of us had to move abroad.

This made the reversals complicated, so we decided to take a break until we could practice together again.

Yes, this would have been my next question: why did you wait so many years to continue? The Vérmező was released last year, however as you said was recorded in 2012. What inspired you to start the band again?

We didn't really restart the band, as it always been existing for us. We merely took a break.

That's right. In 2012 when the guys moved abroad we did not decide to break up the band and start over in the future sometime.

We just waited for the right moment. The guys moved back, and we continued from where we left off.

We didn't want to release the album until we could do any gigs and work as a really active band, so we can continue with the creative process.

One of the biggest local underground record labels is Neverheard Distro.

They released the album on cassette, CD and there is also the option to download the album digitally.

What do you think, how far can you get with a good debut album? What are your goals?

I believe that without the band promoting the album we cannot get that far. We need to be present; we need to be active in the music field.

This only just started in our case, we do our best to catch up, depending on the opportunities available.

The record label defines your style as old school black metal, do you agree with this?

Basically we don't like to characterize ourselves as old school or new wave or anything else.

We wrote between 2009 and 2012 the type of music which comes from us. I hope and I do believe that Nemere has its own sound, something which uniquely describes us.

The fact that the label describes us like this I don't really want to comment on, I don't think it needs to be analyzed.

The design and layout of the album was done by Anvil Kvlt. How did you guys find each other and what kind of feedback did you get about it?

We found each other via Balázs Kárger from Neverheard Distro. He has been really helpful; we would like to thank them for all their support.

Regarding the cover we did receive very good feedback, so they all did a pretty good job.

They were all very positive about working together, and we were very pleasantly surprised how fast they work too.

Also they did the graphic design of the t-shirts we are wearing, with which we are also fully satisfied.

Let's talk about the lyrics a bit. Among other themes, ancient Hungarian myths appear in your lyrics. Whose idea was to use such a theme?

Zsolt?

Yes, I wrote the lyrics. I think all of them. Back in around 2007 when we started writing music with Tamás the lyrics hadn't yet evolved. They used to be rawer and aggressive, more rebellious.

They weren't as diverse as they are now.

Then as the years passed by and I evolved personally, this is how the ancient Hungarian themes started to appear with fictive battles and combats.

I still do believe that with more time the lyrics will keep evolving even more.

Basically I would divide this atmosphere into three categories: as I said, started as raw and rebellious, then later appeared the ancient Hungarian world and with this came more naturalistic and philosophical topic, while I already have quite define plans for our future lyrics.

This is a continually evolving process. I plan to keep our characteristics while broadening this world.

As I mentioned in the beginning you are from Sátoraljaújhely. This is a small town. How is the local underground there? Are there any more bands to mention?

Not really. It seems like it's only just us around there to play underground music. Maybe it's just me not knowing about others.

Mostly just rock bands, really.

You plan to go on stage soon and we will let you prepare for that. As a closing topic could you talk about your future show plans?

I assume you are also writing your new material. What can we expect in 2019?

In 2019 we don't know yet.

We don't want to put a date on anything, as we already managed to be "five years late" with our current album.

Regarding the shows, as & when the opportunity is given we will grab it. We don't have any dates confirmed yet, as these are never easy to organize.

We are planning on recording 3 songs and will release an EP around summer or autumn.

Also our next full album is basically done already, only needs to be recorded. We would like to take some time to work on it more.

And we also have a few even newer materials for after this, which we keep in the freezer for later.

The third full length album of Aornos was put out by the cooperation of Symbol of Domination from Belorussia, Ira Aeterna from Italy, The Plague and also Black Metal Records from the USA in April 2018.

The 9 songs keep the uncompromising, apocalyptic , but complex black metal which u could find on their first two records.

If we compare it with the two previous records, here misanthropy has been put into the focus: the Great Scorn of mankind.

The philosophy of the album stems from this: „The Age of man is over. The time of Nemesis has come …"

The great album cover was done again by Anvil Kvlt.

The inspiration is given and eternal: looking at life from a dark aspect, the endless Nature, Cosmos, transcending the traditional and human things…

When we make a list of the first bands of the HUngarian black/thrash metal scene then besides Tormentor and Phantom we must mention the late Detonator from Mezőkövesd.

The 1990 demo of the band was already published once as a CDr in the mid 2000s by Native Pride Productions but now it is available as normal CD from Metal ör Die Records.

It can be ordered from the label in black and white or red or yellow toned cover.

Haenesy is a one-man atmospheric black metal project which released their debut Ep „Mortals" in 2017.

Now their debut album was released courtesy of Black Mourning Productions. Their debut „Katruzsa" came out in JUne.

It contains six long, depressive atmospheric material.

It can be bough as a Digipack CD from the band or from the bandcamp page of Black Mourning Prductions.

The Hungarian fanzine circle was expanded with a new 'zine called Dögvész. It has a 5-member editing team and they didn't make it small as they started off with a 180-page monster.

It is nicely printed on black and white, rusted sleeves on A/4 with plenty of interviews, vinyl, CD and tape reviews as well as concert and film reviews and a carcass gastro section.

It was sold out fast but now it has been reprinted. A must.

For various reasons Blast fanzine finished its work so the local underground camp will be without an excellent publication, the farewell is is out on 64 A/4 pages with 12 interviews and close to 120 reviews.

The good news is that the editor Zoli Zsiga will continue at another Hungarian fanzine.

We await his return.

The 5th issue of No Obligation fanzine is also out which was mianly done by the editor-in-chief Hajas.

Besides the album and book reviews there are 6 intervies and a Jeff Hanneman biography.

It comes out on 52 pages, 12 pages are colour.

The 10th issue of Posthuman fanzine is out.

The usual print quality with long and detailed interviews with all kinds of metal/punk/grind bands or artists and the usual reviews on 64 pages in A/4 format in English.

Because of the anniversary a special jubilee pack was also created which additionally contains a so-called Retrospection'zine which is a summary of the ten-year portfolio with photos and short explanations commenting on each year plus a M-Wave Destruction: Neuro-Schizmatik NoisemaSS CDr.

The 5th issue of Burning Sun fanzine is also with a new design and expended contributors.

It mainly focuses on heavy metal and besides the latest news there are 6 interviews and several reviews.

Out on 40 pages in A/4 format.

If you pre-order the issue you will receive a compilation CD-r.

It contains bands from Stromspell Records as well as the demo of WindMill and a surprise song.

One of the most significant representatives of the current funeral/doom scene is Abysmal Grief. Our new colleague, MAtei interviewed their guitarist Regen int he catacombs of Dürer Cellar.

Isaac Newton is one of the greatest scientists. He used science not to defy the divine and satanic forces as it is done nowadays buti n his opinion the Creator left enough signs which can reveal the operation of the world.

He created difference calculations to describe the planet moves, general mechanics and dynamics which is the basis of modern science till today.

His discovery connected to light as the prism does not colour it but dissolves it into its elements – colours – was greatly opposed by a member of the Royal Society Robert Hooke and a lifelong animosity started.

It was Edmond Halley a noble friend who lifted Newton from hermitage and published his mastepiece Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica on his own expenses.

Halley mapped the starts of the southern sky thus greatly contributed to seafaring. He calculated that the comet which was later named after him would return in 76 years.

Based on Newton's biblical calculations he predicted the end of the world by 2060.

Nagaarum: Apple record is about these three great men and gives a musical companion.

A joined production of the British Asthetic Death and NGC Prod about 70 minutes long and released on a 6-panel digipack CD.

The metal flag bearers of Hungary apply again the synergy of elegance and evil, characterestic only of them which smoothly flow into one special unity.

As expected Sear Bliss preserved their black metal roots with the tremolo guitar riffs and the elegant screams of András Nagy but the beautiful clean guitars and the magnificientuse of the synth adds more to the majestic picture.

The harmony between the two different musical extremities blends into one that is how black metal and otherworldly atmosphere should unite.

To sum up we can say that Letters from the Edge is a fantastic album and if somebody is looking for something outside the musical norms then they would appreciate this album which differs from the majority of the recordings of the black metal scene.

Neverheard Distro released the cassette version of the first Türböwitch album, Napalm to Posers.

It is handnumbered but not limited.

The first 33 copies are part of a special package which includes a second tape titled Live in Debrecen thanks to Dögvész fanzine.

The sound material of the live recording was given by the Türböwitch concert video recorded by us earlier.

The tapes received a so-called slipcase cover and it also comes with two badges and a magnetic beer opener with the band's logo and a Dögvész Fanzine Türböwitch Special. Napalm to Posers tape is available from the label.

The manisfestation of the friendly cooperation between Fekete Terror Productions and Sun & Moon Records the new Ygfan album „hamvakból …" saw the moonlight.

7 songs in 45 minutes. The cassette is available from Fekete Terror while the digipack version is distributed by Sun & Moon.

Ködfolt is a one-man project, part of the Balatonfüred black metal circle.

The songs and the music were written by Botöönd who is known from another one-man band, Hold.

There are two songs ont he first demo in 20 minutes which were written in 2009 but never published until now.

The music paints a cold and bleak reality for the eyes of the listener which totally distances itself from the materialistic world and leads us to the dark depths of Chaos.

In May Skeletal Remains embarked on a 19-leg European tour. They were ready to face our camera at the backstage of Dürer Kert. Xenia asked them.

WE CANNOT ALTOGETHER AVOID IT,

BUT WE CAN TURN AWAY FROM IT

AND TURN TOWARD THE LIGHT.

WE CAN FAVOR HOPE OVER DESPAIR,

FAITH OVER DOUBT,

POSITIVITY OVER CYNICISM.

EVERY TIME WE EXPRESS GRATITUDE,

OFFER A HELPING HAND, OR GIVE

AN ENCOURAGING COMPLIMENT,

LIKE A FLOWER BY THE WINDOW

WE ARE BENDING TOWARD THE LIGHT

THAT GIVES US LIFE.

NOT ONLY THAT, BUT WE ARE ALSO

BRINGING LIGHT INTO THE LIVES

OF OTHERS.
