[Interviewer] So I actually have a question for Brian because I'd like to know, when did
you first realize the importance of that human connection?
Now, I think in healthcare, we sort of go into this work because we want to help and
we want to connect with people.
But when did you realize that you don't have to be a healthcare provider?
Human connection is important for everyone.
[Brian] Yeah, I mean, I think for me, I realized it much earlier on stage than I did off stage,
very young as a magician because it's very obvious when you're a performer.
At least, it's obvious to many.
Some performers just kind of go up and just say their thing and totally are not aware.
And it's very clear when you watch somebody like, in an open mic, when they're not in
tune with the audience at all.
They're doing a comedy open mic and nobody's laughing.
They go off like, "I killed!
What's next?"
So sometimes it's clear that they're not paying attention.
But most of us are actually very introverted off stage, which you've probably heard a lot
about comedians and performers.
So I've always been very in tune, very sensitive to other people.
And when you put yourself as a performer in an environment, or a speaker, when you put
yourself up in front of hundreds of strangers and ask them to judge you in real time, it's
a very difficult thing.
And so early as a magician, I would feel like the audience didn't react the way I wanted
them to.
Not there was a specific reaction I wanted, but there was a feeling, something I was trying
to give them as a magician, a feeling of wonder or excitement.
And if they weren't getting that from what I was doing, I needed to figure out what was
wrong.
And I think early I realized, oh, I'm not being present.
I'm just doing a rehearsed bit.
And I'm just kind of doing it at them.
And my mentor when I was like 17 or 18, he told me bad magicians perform at their audiences.
Good magicians perform for their audiences.
Great magicians perform with their audiences.
And that's how I learned it as a magician.
But it took an embarrassingly long time later in my personal life to realize why relationships
kept failing and friendships kept failing eventually and it was like, oh, it's the same
thing.

Ready or Not, Here We Come! | 13th MEU Sustainment Exercise - Duration: 1:01.
SUSTEX for Lima Company was a five-day training evolution that allowed us to refocus our efforts
on basic skills that we had confirmed and trained to
approximately a year ago prior to dropping into the 13th MEU.
Over the course of the last year we've spent that time training and building up
to company level collective tasks
to include company level raids, tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel and so on.
What this allowed us to do was basically go back to the basics, refine those
essential skill sets that allow us to accomplish those more technical or collective tasks
in this five day training evolution.
It facilitated that process.
It facilitated that process with fundamentals of patrolling, urban operations,
as well as live fire going into the offense.

Parents & Kids Play Truth or Drink | Truth or Drink | Cut - Duration: 9:02.
- Was the sex the same after I was born?
Did I mess up Mom's vagina?
I guess the real question is after I was born
was it like throwing a hot dog down a hallway?
- For a while.
("Eine kleine Nachtmusik" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart)
- I'm Chelsea.
- I'm Lee.
- This is my dad.
- Daughter.
- I'm Marietta.
- I'm Yasmin and I'm Marietta's daughter.
- [Interviewer] You guys talk
about everything pretty openly?
You talk about money? You talk about sex?
- Yeah, not too much sex.
- No!
(laughter)
Okay, yeah, but you know, we're pretty open with each other.
- [Interviewer] Well, today... (laughter)
- Mhmm.
- Yeah, it's gonna be exciting.
Alright, I'm going first.
- [Interviewer] Yes, sir.
- Describe the night of my conception in vivid detail?!
Don't do that please!
- It's... - No!
- It's only like;
Chuggin' it.
- Yeah, you better do that.
(laughter)
- It was the year of...
(laughter)
- 1993? - 1993!
And I remember the guy being like,
"I'm so in love with you, I don't think I can do this."
And I'm like what do you mean you can't?!
Come here, mother fucker!
(laughter)
- Okay, here we go.
Oh my god, really?
List all the illicit drugs you've tried.
- It's really basic: weed, mushrooms.
- Crack?
- Hell no!
(laughter)
- So marijuana, cocaine.
- What?
- Ecstasy.
- What drugs have you done, Mom?
- Me?
- Yeah, you.
Answer the question!
- No, I can tell you right now, I never done drugs.
(laughter)
How you doin'?
- I accidentally did heroin once.
It was a powder, I thought it was molly.
- Like it makes a difference.
- I didn't do it anymore, that was when I was 21, 22.
- What was your reaction when you found out
you were gonna be a parent?
- I was happy, you know, because
actually I wanted about ten kids.
- Jesus!
- But after I started having 'em, it was like ooh.
I really don't want ten kids.
(laughter)
- I was scared, I was sad - Well, tell how old
were you though?
- I was 16.
- Yeah, so that's fair.
- I wasn't ready for it.
The marriage was crap and I wanted a baby
and we got pregnant and I thought that was gonna fix it.
- It's funny because it just proves the fact that
people think that having a baby will fix their problems.
- It doesn't work.
- Knock it off.
- Do you wanna have children?
- I can't decide, I really love children.
- [Interviewer] Tell her about the magic of having children.
- It's not magic, they're stinky, they cry, they poop,
they can be annoying, but they're beautiful creatures.
So don't grow until you 50 and you will not be able
biological to have children and you will regret it.
When your eggs dry.
Gone.
Okay, what is your favorite sexual position and why?
(laughter)
Okay, drink please.
- This is not gonna happen.
- Why I mean being sexually opening, why does it matter?
- I don't know it's weird.
- Why?
Like if you're...
- Okay, fine!
- No, no, no, no, drink!
(laughter)
- Sideways. - Take a fuckin' drink.
- No I'm tellin' ya, - Cause I don't wanna...
- It's sideways cause I'm lazy!
(laughter)
- Okay, that's wonderful.
- Now you know.
Alright here we go, I'm gonna read this next one.
- Okay.
- Do you ever do butt stuff?
- Ew.
(laughter)
Butt stuff, what does that mean?
- Do you eat ass, do you get anal,
do you put the finger in the butt?
Like do you do butt stuff?
- Yeah, I need a drink cause that's nasty.
- Not on myself, on other people.
- Two-legged or four-legged?
(laughter)
- Have you ever had anything in your butt?
(laughter)
- Yeah.
- You said yeah?
Nah, no, well.
(laughter)
It's your turn, butt, it's your turn.
- When we hug... - It's your turn, Butt Stuff.
- From the butt joke.
- Name three ways I fucked up as a parent.
- Ooh.
(laughter)
My mom is so great, but she never fucked up.
Just kidding, okay so you definitely fucked up by
not understanding my mental illnesses.
- Okay.
- Did you just roll your eyes?
- No.
- You just did!
- If anything, you just taught me how to be
a really strong person, got me jobs, helped me out,
do a lotta stuff, so no, you didn't fuck up at all.
- Okay. - Yeah.
- Okay.
- Yeah, I can't think of one, oh shh.
- You just wanna drink, that's all.
- Nah, no! What?!
- You didn't think because I was a lesbian that...
- No that broadened my... - Yeah you were,
- You know what I'm saying? - Yeah you were real,
- I didn't give a shit, - open about that.
- Yeah, you'd go to school tellin' everybody,
"My mom's gay, my mom's gay, yeah!"
(laughter)
I had to sit 'em down, had to talk to ya.
Not everyone is on the same page as you, please, you know?
(laughter)
- In elementary school maybe you could have been more
like proactive in like, what do..
- PTSA? - PTSA, stuff like that.
- Never had time because I worked two shifts
because your father was gambling away all the money.
- I just always remember like the other kids
would have their mom's bring cookies.
- We're not gonna worry about cookies, pajama nights,
or things like that it's like strictly about education.
I'm sorry for that, but that's how it is.
- I know.
(laughter)
- On a scale from one to ten how heterosexual are you?
- Heterosexual, that's like?
- Straight.
- Straight. - Yes.
Like one is super gay - That's super gay?
- And... - Is there a super gay?
- Ten's like super straight.
- I'd probably say eight.
- Nice.
- Thirty.
(laughter)
- I can answer this for you,
on a scale from one to ten how heterosexual are you?
Negative five?
(laughter)
- Woo, he got that right!
- [Interviewer] Ask your daughter.
(laughter)
- Yeah, one to ten?
- One to ten? Probably a one.
- That's a lot lower than I would expect it.
- How heterosexual are you?
- Five.
Would you still love me if I dated a woman?
- I will love you, but distantly.
- I don't know what to say
cause I already know that you feel that way.
- Okay.
Are you going to change my diapers when the time comes?
(laughter)
- Yes, I will never put you in a retirement home.
- Oh really?
That's good news, awesome! - Yeah!
- Are you going to change my diapers when the time comes?
- I'd rather not.
(laughter)
- Imma tell you the truth,
me and brother gonna put you in a home.
(laughter)
- She's like no, no; look what she's doing!
- I better be proud to change your diapers, that's my dad!
- Just don't be sticking anything up my...
- No butt, unless you're like stuck and they're like
you need to get it out.
I would like pull out your poop.
- Would you do that? - If I, I would!
- Would you honestly? - I would!
- Mmm, what's something that's hard
for us to talk about together?
Should we just clear the air right now?
- No, there's nothing really hard to talk about with you.
Is there anything that you
have a hard time talking to me about?
- I do.
(laughter)
- I don't know, just your attitude sometimes,
it just really sucks.
I'm your mom so when I say something,
(laughter) No!
It really should be, you know, you should shut the hell up
and listen to what I say.
- We do.
- No you don't, no you don't. - Yeah, we do.
- See, there you go!
I'm saying no you don't, there you go.
Yeah we do, no you don't, yeah, you shut the hell up!
- Gimme a question, gimme your last one.
- Oh! - Better be a good one.
- Why are we have to get all fucking sentimental
and weird.
What did you think I was capable of becoming
when I was a child, have I lived up to those expectations?
I'll drink for that, shit.
- Yeah, I don't know that - Yeah, there you go.
- Be whatever you want to be, no expectations.
- You still piss me off.
- Oh yeah, you still piss me off all the time too.
- And if it wasn't for child abuse
I woulda whooped your ass a few times.
- Pssh!
- Even now.
- What I thought you were gonna be?
Nothing.
(giggling)
She was so lazy when she was young,
but now seeing you, where you are,
I mean you moved outta the house at 19,
you're 24 and you have done so much.
Yeah, I think my expectations are (explosive exhale).
- Aw, thank you. - You did great, baby.
- I love you
- Love you, too.
- [Interviewer] How was this for you guys?
- We drunk, so that's...
(laughter)
- That helped.
- You wanna do something like this again?
- Never.
- Done? Woo-hoo!
(applause)

Anime is Better Being Well-read (Or Well-watched!) - Duration: 10:02.
A couple of months ago, I was browsing my AniList feed when I noticed a curious pattern…
a not insignificant amount of my friends were absolutely tearing through Futari wa Precure.
Now, I knew of the show's existence, but was completely baffled at why a show that
had finished airing over a decade ago was now picking up steam among my circles.
It finally came to me when I finished catching up with Hugtto Precure.
The latest episode had featured Cure Black and Cure White, the "Futari wa" of "Futari
wa Precure."
And while it now made sense why the OG series had such renewed interest, it got me thinking
about exactly what drives us to do things like binge a hundred episodes for characters
that have less than 10 minutes of screen time.
I think the answer is that context is king (or queen).
Human beings are curious creatures, and obtaining proper context behind something can be a large
source of enjoyment.
In this case, my friends were seeking to establish a stronger connection with Nagisa and Honoka,
thus making their appearance in Hugtto carry that much more weight.
In philosophy, there exists two fancy terms in regards to knowledge, a priori and a posteriori.
And despite sounding like they're straight from the middle ages, their meanings are quite
simple.
A priori literally means "from the earlier," and represents knowledge that is independent
of experience—basically things that you could reason for yourself without consulting
*any* outside reference, even your own senses.
However, Cure White and Cure Black's appearances in Hugtto Precure are an example of a posteriori
knowledge, the literal definition being (not surprisingly), "from the later."
You would have to know of Futari wa Precure's existence in order to know who they are, and
you would've had to have seen the show to know what they're all about.
This dichotomy between a priori knowledge and a posteriori knowledge is an interesting
component of how we view anime.
It's not exactly a perfect comparison, since a priori knowledge refers to things like math
and tautologies (Fun things are fun!), but I'm using it here to refer to what we can
glean from purely the anime itself, compared to what we get with the benefit of outside
knowledge and context.
You're kind of able to "have your cake and eat it too," meaning you're able to
derive the meaning and enjoyment inherent within a show's given narrative, and then
later reap the benefits of recontextualization that a posteriori knowledge provides.
And I can't think of a better show that showcases this than Madoka Magica.
Depending on the framework from which you approach it, different themes are either emphasized
or outright revealed entirely—making the gaining of perspective something that everyone
should pursue, it can only make a good show even better.
Not to say that Madoka isn't already fantastic on its own merits—one can clearly see that
purely from a priori knowledge, or everything that's in the show itself.
For example, a common thing to hear is that one must watch at least up to episode 3 of
Madoka in order to give it a fair shake, however this implies that Madoka doesn't reveal
what kind of show it is at first glance.
There is a noticeable attempt at misdirection, but SHAFT and Urobuchi left plenty of clues
for one to pick up on.
A simple look into the directing and cinematography betrays the show's sinister nature, well
before episode 3.
In fact this intricate attention to detail and symbolism is not unique to Madoka's
start, there is plenty of foreshadowing to be gleaned if one simply pays attention.
But even to the most inattentive viewer, I don't know how you could make it through
the fever dream that is the opening scene set to Kalafina's Magia and still expect
a happy go lucky magical girl anime.
However, what happens if you go into Madoka having read Goethe's Faust, a well regarded
piece of German literature?
Well, it'd be pretty much like "seeing the Matrix" or turning the lights on.
A number of doors leading to renewed appreciation of the show open to you.
You'd probably notice how Madoka's beginning mirrors Faust's, with the two titular characters
both lamenting their positions in life, and you bet that you wouldn't trust Mephistopheles
stand-in Kyubey for a single second, since you were probably anticipating the infamous
Faustian bargain.
If your fansub group was dedicated enough, or if you just really liked cryptography,
the opening title card whose runes proudly displays 'Prologue in Heaven 2011" would
clue you in immediately.
You would be primed to look for the themes of morality, life and death, and spirituality
that are present in Faust, and be on the edge of your seat seeing how Madoka presents its
own version of a classic story.
And you'd kind of already be expecting a tragedy, knowing that Faust accepted a bargain
with consequences he was ill-prepared to deal with.
Though, I acknowledge that the vast majority of anime-watchers probably haven't read
Faust.
The point of this video is not to admonish you for not having read classic literature,
but rather encourage you to seek context, any context, since it can only add to the
experience.
For example, I didn't go into Madoka with Faust in mind, and as such missed many of
the Faustian elements.
Instead, I came into it just having taken psychology, meaning the doors that opened
for me were different, but I think just as valuable.
You see, there's a famous thought experiment known as the trolley problem.
You're a train track operator faced with a dilemma, a runaway train is barreling towards
a group of five unknowing workers, while another track only has a single worker.
Do you sit back and do nothing?
Or do you switch the tracks to sacrifice one for the lives of many?
This ethics thought experiment has been discussed for quite some time, and while some may have
the answer come to them immediately, it usually ends up being a hard choice.
Utilitarianism indicates that not only is it the moral choice, it is obligatory for
one to switch the tracks.
However, some argue that making an active decision in the process makes you responsible
for the death when it would just be an unfortunate incident otherwise.
Kyubey presents basically the exact same dilemma from a utilitarian view.
Is the suffering of a (relative) few justifiable to save the lives of many, in this case "many"
being the entire universe.
While one can pick up on this question of whether or not the "greater good" is worth
it, having knowledge of the trolley problem adds a new tinge and nuance to the theme,
and if one wished, they could read up on the decades of prior discussion surrounding it.
Is it worth losing Madoka for the sake of everyone else?
Ultimately the end of the series, as well as Homura...says no.
Something interesting to note is that this theme of one's actions being part of a greater
whole is also present in Faust—meaning one can arrive at the same conclusions from different
starting points.
You just need to go out and get them.
Speaking of starting points, when one watches Madoka within their anime career can drastically
change their opinion of the show.
For example, if you were relatively new to anime you might consider Madoka "darker"
than you expected of the mahou shoujo genre.
And to that statement, anyone who has seen Princess Tutu or Sailor Moon might laugh at
you.
Atelier Emily notes in her blog "For Me in Full Bloom" that for her, "Madoka was
always a celebration of the magical girl genre.
It takes existing tropes from other series of its ilk and revels in them, rather than
repositioning them to say something new.
The ending of Madoka, where Homura Akemi and Madoka Kaname embrace each other in a galaxy
is a fantastic homage to the finale of Sailor Moon Sailor Stars."
This is where anitube and aniblogging excel, you could say a large portion of their value
lies in the provision of a posteriori knowledge.
Another common misconception is that something like Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero is a Madoka rip-off,
but like Zeria states in the aptly named "Stop Calling Everything a Madoka Rip-off!", their
differences become readily apparent given one has the tiniest foothold in the genre.
As for me personally, watching Cardcaptor Sakura and Princess Tutu ramped up my appreciation
of something like Madoka, and I think it's incredibly important to go back and mingle
with the classics.
They've stood the test of time for a reason, and you should know how a genre plays it straight
before diving into the quirks and twists that future iterations may implement.
I often get comments along the lines of "Man, I wish I could see anime the way you do."
But, at the risk of dispelling this notion that I'm some sort of "enlightened
mind," I'm not special.
I just have a particular background and prior context that I bring to the shows I watch.
Hell, do you know what was on my mind watching the last third of Cardcaptor Sakura?
The fact that neurons are myelinated.
Because without a little bit of resistance, nerve impulses can't travel as fast, and
I saw Eriol as providing that push-back for Sakura, forcing her to adapt and become stronger.
As a result, he was never that much of a villain to me, due to my background in biology.
So here's my plea to you.
Read more things, watch more anime.
Because how you experience anime is shaped by what contextualization you have available
to you.
Watching One Punch Man is a riot in and of itself, but it's a different experience
entirely having seen DBZ, the unorthodoxy of Ore Monogatari!!'s main character may
be lost on someone who has never seen or read a shoujo, and while I saw a landmark African
text in Little Witch Academia, Caffeinated Telescope's interpretation of Akko representing
a young creator is just as valid, if not more in line with Yoshinari's intent.
Whether it means reading literature, watching old anime, or more content from me and my
peers—I just want you to give yourself more doors to open.
It can only make already great anime somehow even better.
Thanks for watching and be sure to like and subscribe for more content.
Here's a reminder that for most of my videos I provide additional reading and references
in the description below, not only because I want to be accountable, but because I want
to encourage this expanding of perspective that I stress in this video.
If you enjoyed the video, you may enjoy this one by Kor Reviews talking about why we should
watch old anime without resorting to weird latin words like I had to.
And of course if anything I said was wrong, I'm sorry.
I must've stuttered.

Should Democrats or Republicans be optimistic for midterm elections? - Duration: 4:37.
BEFORE THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS ON
NOVEMBER SIXTH, NEWSHOUR WEEKEND
SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT JEFF
GREENFIELD WILL BE HEADING OUT
FOR A LOOK AT SOME KEY RACES.
HE RECENTLY JOINED ME FOR A
PREVIEW OF WHAT'S AT STAKE.
LET'S START WITH THE OVERALL
TERRAIN, THE GENERAL MOOD ABOUT
THE MIDTERMS.
DO THE DEMS HAVE GOOD REASON TO
BE OPTIMISTIC?
>> WELL, THE FIRST THING IS THAT
JUST A PRESIDENT'S PARTY ALMOST
ALWAYS LOSES SEATS IN A MIDTERM
ELECTION.
THERE HAVE BEEN LIKE TWO
EXCEPTIONS IN THE LAST 80 YEARS
SECOND, A PARTY'S PROSPECTS ARE
GENERALLY LINKED TO THEIR
PRESIDENT'S APPROVAL RATINGs.
CURRENTLY TRUMP'S AVERAGE
APPROVAL RATING THIS PAST MONTH
IS ABOUT TWO POINTS LOWER THAN
OBAMA IN 2010 WHEN DEMOCRATS
SUFFERED A DISASTROUS MIDTERM.
BUT THERE ARE SPECIFIC PROBLEMS
THIS TIME FOR REPUBLICANS.
FIRST, SOME 40 REPUBLICAN
INCUMBENTS ARE LEAVING, WHILE
ONLY 18 DEMOCRATS HAVE ANNOUNCED
THEIR RETIREMENTS, AND IT IS
JUST EASIER TO FLIP AN OPEN
SEAT.
SECOND, 25 HOUSE REPUBLICANS
ARE IN DISTRICTS CARRIED BY
HILLARY CLINTON TWO YEARS AGO.
MAINLY IN SUBURBAN DISTRICTS,
LITERALLY FROM COAST TO COAST.
ONLY 13 DEMOCRATIC SEATS ARE IN
TRUMP-FRIENDLY DISTRICTS.
AND IT IS HERE IN SUBURBAN
AMERICA WHERE THE PRESIDENT'S
APPROVAL RATINGS ARE
PARTICULARLY LOW.
THIRD, UNLIKE THE LAST MIDTERMS
WHEN REPUBLICANS WERE ON THE
OFFENSIVE ON ISSUES LIKE
OBAMACARE, THIS TIME VOTERS ARE
CONCERNED ABOUT THREATS TO
HEALTH CARE AND THE G.O.P.'S
SIGNATURE ISSUE, THOSE TAX CUTS,
ARE ACTUALLY MEETING WITH
DISAPPROVAL.
SO RIGHT NOW WITH 42 REPUBLICAN
HOUSE SEATS IN DANGER AND ONLY
THREE DEMOCRATIC SEATS IN
DANGER, ODDS-MAKERS SAY THERE IS
A FOUR TO ONE CHANCE THAT THE
DEMOCRATS WILL WIN THE NECESSARY
23 SEATS TO GET CONTROL OF THE
HOUSE.
LET'S REMEMBER, HOWEVER, THAT
HILLARY CLINTON WAS A 3 TO 1
FAVORITE ON ELECTION DAY TWO
YEARS AGO.
>> Sreenivasan: BUT LET'S TALK
ABOUT THE SENATE.
>> SENATE IS COMPLETELY
DIFFERENT.
THE MAP FOR 2018 IS NOTHING LESS
THAN A NIGHTMARE FOR THE
DEMOCRATS.
ONLY ONE REPUBLICAN SEAT IS IN A
STATE CLINTON CARRIED, THAT IS
NEVADA.
BUT TEN DEMOCRATIC INCUMBENTS
ARE RUNNING IN STATES THAT TRUMP
CARRIED, FIVE OF THEM BY
LANDSLIDES, AND IN THOSE THOSE
STATES, TRUMP'S APPROVAL RATINGS
ARE BETTER THAN HIS NATIONAL
AVERAGE.
RIGHT NOW, DEMOCRATIC SENATORS
ARE FACING SERIOUS CHALLENGES IN
FLORIDA, INDIANA, MISSOURI,
NORTH DAKOTA, MONTANA.
G.O.P. SEATS ARE VULNERABLE IN
ARIZONA, NEVADA, TENNESSEE AND
MAYBE TEXAS.
DEMOCRATS NEED A NET GAIN OF
TWO SENATE SEATS TO TAKE
CONTROL OF THAT CHAMBER.
IT'S IN THE RED STATES WHERE THE
KAVANAUGH NOMINATION MAY PLAY
OUT PARTICULARLY INFLUENTIALLY.
REMEMBER, ONLY SENATORS, NOT
CONGRESSMAN, NOT HOUSE MEMBERS
VOTE ON CONFIRMATION.
THE FEELING WAS THAT THESE RED
STATE DEMOCRATS MIGHT BE PUSHED
TO VOTE FOR CONFIRMING
KAVANAUGH, THE RECENT
ALLEGATIONS MAY MAKE THAT
DIFFERENTLY.
ALSO IN THESE STATES, CENTRIST
DEMOCRATS ARE GOING TO BE
PUSHED BY THEIR REPUBLICAN
OPPONENTS ON IMMIGRATION AND ON
WHETHER THEY EMBRACE THE
POLICIES OF THE MORE PROGRESSIVE
LEFT SWING OF THE NATIONAL
DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
>> Sreenivasan: YOU ALSO POINT
US BACK TO THE STATE RACES, WHY?
>> BECAUSE WHILE ALL THE
ATTENTION IS ON THE HOUSE AND
THE SENATE, THE NATIONAL SCENE,
IT IS AT THE STATE LEVEL WHERE
MANY OF THE KEY POLICY
DECISIONS ARE MADE AND IT IS AT
THE STATE LEVEL WHERE THE
POLITICAL OUTCOMES IN NOVEMBER
IN SOME WAYS ARE GOING TO BE
REALLY, REALLY CRITICAL.
BIG REPUBLICAN GAINS IN 2010
AND 2014 GAVE THE G.O.P. FULL
POLITICAL CONTROL IN KEY SWING
STATES AND IT IS AT THE STATE
LEVEL THAT ISSUES ARE DECIDED ON
EVERYTHING FROM THE POWER OF
ORGANIZED LABOR TO TAXES, TO
ABORTION, TO ENVIRONMENTAL
RULES.
AND THE GOVERNOR'S ELECTED THIS
YEAR WILL HAVE A BIG VOICE IN
DRAWING LINES FOR CONGRESSIONAL
AND LEGISLATIVE SEATS.
REMEMBER, THE REPUBLICAN GAINS
BACK IN 2010 LED TO A NET GAIN
FOR SOME 17 HOUSE SEATS IN THE
U.S. CONGRESS, ACCORDING TO THE
BRENNAN CENTER.
RIGHT NOW DEMOCRATS ARE AHEAD IN
GOVERNOR'S RACES IN ILLINOIS,
MICHIGAN, NEW MEXICO AND ABOUT
EVEN IN FLORIDA, GEORGIA, OHIO,
WISCONSIN, IOWA, KANSAS, MAINE
AND NEVADA.
SO ON ELECTION NIGHT THE STATE
RACES DESERVE AS MUCH ATTENTION
AS THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE.
BUT WE CAN'T LOOK AT THE
MIDTERM PREVIEW WITHOUT NOTING
THE DIVERSITY STORY.
AN ASTONISHING NUMBER OF WOMEN,
180 PLUS ON THE DEMOCRATIC SIDE
AND MORE THAN 50 REPUBLICAN
WOMEN ARE THE NOMINEES OF THEIR
PARTIES FOR THE HOUSE.
AND WE ARE LOOKING AT THE
POSSIBILITY FOR INSTANCE, FOR
AFRICAN-AMERICAN GOVERNORS IN
GEORGIA AND FLORIDA.
THIS REALLY MAY WIND UP BEING
A VERY DIFFERENT LOOKING
POLITICAL CLIMATE ONCE NOVEMBER
IS OVER.
>> Sreenivasan: JEFF GREENFIELD,
THAT IS A LOT TO THINK ABOUT AS
YOU GO OUT ON YOUR REPORTING
TRIP.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR JOINING US.
>> PLEASURE.

How To Bring your Fiancee or Spouse to the USA? on K1 or CR1 visas - Duration: 16:11.
Today we are going to talk about
How to bring your Fiance or Spouse to the USA, on a K1 Fiancee Visa or a CR1 Spouse
Visa.
This video is for those who have not quite decided yet, which path
is best for them.
You are still trying to decide whether to get married first
and apply for a CR1 spouse visa, or stay engaged and apply for the K1 Fiance Visa
then marry once your partner arrives to the USA.
I am going to talk about both paths side by side, so you'll understand what happens
with either, and hopefully this will bring you closer to decide one way or the other.
And by the way last year there were about 40 thousand spouse visas issued, and also
about 40 thousand fiancé visas issued, so there is not a clear cut favorite, in answering
the "which is better question"
Now, lets talk about : How To Bring your Fiance or Spouse to the USA to the USA ?
Your partner needs permission from the US government to
allow her or him to enter the USA.
If you are just married, this is called a CR1 Spouse Visa, if you are planning to marry
after arrival to the USA, this is called a K1 Fiancee visa.
First we work together to produce a thick packet of forms, evidences
and civil documents.
This is required to demonstrate that you are eligible to apply, and that your true
agenda is a genuine life together, not immigration fraud.
The application itself looks pretty simple.
It asks for "name, rank serial number".
This often leads to overconfidence.
Couples who really don't understand what all will happen,
fill in the blanks themselves, submit the petition and usually
end up shooting themselves in the foot.
This typically results in the leading cause of denial, failure to
convince the consular officer who interviews your partner
that your relationship is genuine, is "bona fide".
Sadly, US immigration has had bad experience in the past, with
this type of "romance" visa.
Many who were not eligible applied for fiancé or spouse visa's.
In reality they were not seeking a life together in the USA, but only seeking admission
to the USA.
Their relationship was not real, it was a "sham"
Gold diggers, gigolos, con-men even terrorists have used fiance or spouse visas as a
back door into the USA.
Normally in USA one is considered "innocent until
proven guilty".
But because of the bad apples who have abused the immigration system ahead of you, and have
basically "poisoned the well" , now when you apply for a visa for your partner, regardless
of whether you are married now, or plan to latter,
Sorry, but, NOW immigration takes the attitude you are "guilty until proven innocent"
This is how a lot of couples get in trouble.
They sadly end up shocked at what happens at the
interview.
Because they are "IN LOVE", because they are sincere, because they may have already
Made their vows, they assumed no special, no extra effort to prove their situation was
needed.
They assumed the consular officer would right away recognize their sincerity, and say "yes,
visa approved."
So, they filled in the forms themselves, filing in basic
"Name, rank and serial number" or they hired a cheap online
form printing service.
Those cheap "bare bones" applications, are usually enough to get
one's "foot in the door".
It's usually enough to get your partner sitting opposite a officer for the consular
interview.
Sadly, HOWEVER, just having your "chance at bat", chance to interview,
is rarely enough to win approval.
It is too often, not nearly enough to demonstrate "to the OFFICER" that your application
is "bona fide".
Now without enough information laid out in front of him, the consular officer, must stretch,
must dig, must ask a lot of questions, to hear what he wants to know.
Unfortunately, once you start down the path of multiple questions, the interview can easily
deteriorate into an interrogation, Until the officer FEELS he can make a yes or no decision.
Well, If he is short of time, or impatient or close minded or in
a bad mood, or if your partner is not fluent in English, or fast enough
to provide convincing answers, the simpler course for the officer,
the safer course that does not risk his career or professional
reputation is to deny.
My signature philosophy at VisaCoach is we get achieve success by
"doing the consular officers job for him".
The consular officer has been doing his work for a while at the consulate.
He has been trained.
He has experience.
He "Knows", at least in his mind, what a NORMAL, and eligible couple should look
like.
He expects an honest couple will have done certain things, in certain ways.
And on the flip side he also has strong ideas of what signs indicate they may not be honest.
So, the CLOSER your situation matches his positive expectations,
then the closer your case is to being approved.
So when I work with a couple, I first discuss with them what they
have been doing, then I explain what the consulate they will
be interviewed at expects.
Then I suggest what actions the couple should take, to do "the right thing".
Just Doing the right thing however is not good enough.
Next we need to DOCUMENT that the right thing was done.
I teach my clients ways to create evidences that show what happened.
And I review them to pick and choose the most relevant and effective ones.
But having evidences that the right thing was done still isn't good enough.
Last, we have got to make sure the officer sees the evidences.
And that is what a VisaCoach front loaded application is.
We include with every application high quality evidences, specifically
demonstrating that you have a bona fide relationship, we "front
load" the evidences in the original application, because we know
these evidences will get into the consular officers hands, before
the interview starts.
We know that the consular officer ALWAYS reviews the original
application materials before the interview starts.
My "front loaded" applications are crafted to do the consular
officers job for him.
During his review, before your partner sits down in front of his desk, the consular officer
should have already seen and reviewed the type of evidences
that allow him to confidently approve your visa.
He should be very receptive to say yes, even before the interview officially
starts.
The petition package is mailed to USCIS, the United States Customs
and Immigration Service.
Fiance Visa applications are originally sent to their offices in Dallas Texas, for sorting
assignment to various centers around the USA for processing.
Spouse visa applications go first to Chicago.
Regardless of whether it's a Fiance or Spouse applications, in 2018 USCIS takes about 7
to 8 months to do their part to review your case, including an FBI background check on
the American sponsor.
Sorry, but this amount of time to process is vastly slower than in recent years, and
is due to the executive orders issued by President Trump for USCIS to conduct
more vigorous reviews, so called "extreme vetting" of all cases.
When finished, USCIS hands the case over to the US State Department's National Visa Center
(NVC) based in New Hampshire.
This is where the paths between Fiancee and Spouse applications branch off from each other.
Fiancee visa applications are held only briefly at NVC, usually only
a few weeks, just long enough for NVC to assign a new case number and to
forward the case via diplomatic pouch to the overseas consulate.
For a spouse visa application though, NVC gets really involved.
They ask you to pay additional fees, these are paid online,
and to submit the required civil documents plus proofs of your financial eligibility.
Normally these are submitted via postal mail but NVC is currently experimenting with a
new system that requires direct upload of evidences from the internet.
Some cases are selected for the experiment, the others
follow the traditional path.
Either way it's pretty confusing.
So while the Fiance application went overseas fairly quickly, the spouse visa stays at NVC
for 4 to 8 months, until NVC is satisfied, then the case is passed on to the consulate.
For a spouse visa NVC has already booked a date for the interview about 2 months later,
whereas for a fiancé visa, once the case arrives at the foreign consulate it is up
to you to contact the consulate to schedule the interview.
I update you on what the current procedures are at the consulate.
I guide you and your partner on what needs to be done,
how to schedule the interview (if NVC has scheduled it already), where to take the medical,
what final fees are needed, and what official documents need to be collected.
Finally in the run up to the interview, I provide a detailed, personalized checklist
on what all your Fiance should bring with him or her to the consulate on the day of
the interview.
This is especially important, as forgetting to bring a required document
can cause, weeks of delays.
Even if a missing document is provided the next day, sorry, but the consulate officers
have already moved on to new cases, and for them it is a very low priority
to circle around to re-open a case just to confirm a document has finally been
presented.
One to two weeks before the interview your partner must undergo, a thorough
medical exam and review of his or her vaccinations at a clinic
appointed by the consulate.
Finally your Partner attends the interview at the US consulate.
This is the BIG event.
During the interview, the consular officer must be CONVINCED
your the relationship is bona fide and not a sham for immigration purposes.
As previously mentioned, at the interview, is where the high quality
VisaCoach "front loaded application" typically wins the day.
The consular officer always reviews the case file before
the interview starts.
We craft your application so that he finds many good reasons why he should trust
you and approve the visa.
Even before he invites your Fiance or Spouse to sit in front of his desk,
we want him to have seen our carefully selected and presented evidences and be
mentally prepared to say "yes".
Typically, the interview turns into a fast and friendly, formality.
Most VisaCoach clients hear "Welcome to the USA" in just 3 to 4 minutes
One to Two weeks later your Partner's passport with visa are delivered, to her or him via
courier, and then and your Partner has six months to start the trip to join you in the
USA.
Here again is where the paths between Spouse Visa and Fiance Visas split up.
Arriving on a CR1 spouse visa, your spouse is already approved for permanent residency.
Usually your partners Green Card, which proves permanent residency has been granted
arrives in the mail in about 2 to three months.
You are now temporarily done with immigration, however the new green card is conditional,
only valid for 2 years.
In two years we must go back to USCIS to upgrade it.
More about this later.
Arriving on a K1 fiance visa, you have 90 days to "get to know each other better",
if that is what you need, AND to marry.
You don't have to marry, but if you do not, your foreign fiancé should leave the USA
before the 90 days is up.
After the wedding your Fiance does not have to leave the country, she
or he can remain with you as your spouse, IF you apply to
US immigration for permission for her to remain in the USA as a
lawful permanent resident.
This is called Adjustment of Status.
Your new spouse adjusts her or his status from that
of a temporary 90 day fiance visa visitor to a permanent resident.
At the end of the Adjustment of Status application process your
spouse gets what is known as the Green Card.
But US immigration is still cautious, still skeptical.
The Green card that is granted is only "conditional".
Meaning it is good for only two years.
Now the paths of Fiance and Spouse visas join again.
And from now on there no longer is any different treatment.
In both cases you are married, living together in the USA, and holding Conditional Green
Cards that expire in two years.
Before the two years is up we apply once again.
This time it is called "Application for Removal of Conditions on
Residence" We apply, it is granted and now your spouse gets a regular Green Card
that does not have conditions.
A year later, (after a total of three years as a permanent resident) your spouse, is eligible
to apply for US citizenship and get a US passport.
And don't worry.
Even though there are many steps, VisaCoach is ready to
help you through each and every step, from Visa through to Conditional Green Card
then Un-conditional Green Card and finally to US Citizenship
This was Fred Wahl, The VisaCoach
And on a personal note, and it's not just because I want your business.
You should not go this course alone.
In today's atmosphere of extreme vetting, and, well, anti-immigration,
It's too easy if you don't know what you are doing to mess up.
I get too many calls with people in tears, who are now doing their research
and reaching out to me AFTER THEY GOT DENIED.
Don't let this be you.

Calvin Ridley Fantasy: Should You Start or Sit the Falcons WR? | Heavy.com - Duration: 5:10.
Calvin Ridley Fantasy: Should You Start or Sit the Falcons WR? | Heavy.com
After being almost nonexistent in a Week 1 loss, Atlanta Falcons rookie wide receiver Calvin Ridley has officially arrived.
And if you're one of the fantasy football owners who held onto him after the zero-catch showing in the opener, then you get a pat on the back.
Ridley looks every bit like the real deal and is fresh off a monstrous Week 3 performance in which he caught seven passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns.
The Falcons now draw an interesting matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals and while rookie wideouts can be tough to trust, fantasy owners are surely itching to use Ridley.
The matchup isn't perfect for Ridley and the Falcons wideouts in Week 4, but it's not terrible either.
Let's break it down a bit further and evaluate whether Ridley is a start or sit this week.
Calvin Ridley's Week 4 Fantasy Value.
I love Ridley's game, watching him play is just enjoyable.
To be honest, though, I didn't expect the breakout to happen this quickly for the No.
26 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
But this week, we have to go off the eye test and evaluate how he's being utilized, and it's an interesting spot for Ridley.
The Bengals have allowed 42 receptions for 448 yards and three touchdowns to opposing wideouts, numbers that place them in the middle of the NFL against the position.
But their three games to this point have been against the Indianapolis Colts in Andrew Luck's first game back, Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers.
All three of those teams have solid passing games, but nothing near what the Falcons bring to the table.
Based on that, it's not enough to use the Bengals' numbers to sway the fantasy decision on Ridley one way or the other.
Two things that do make the decision somewhat easier is the fact that we know roughly how many snaps Ridley will play.
In each of the first three weeks, he's played at least 56 percent of Atlanta's offensive plays, and two featured 62 percent or more, per Football Outsiders.
This means his production isn't necessarily dependant on him playing a massive number of snaps.
Even more important is the fact that Matt Ryan is looking Ridley's way more, as he's seen his targets increase in each week (two, five and eight).
He's also taken on the role of the Falcons' home-run hitter, which is a big deal considering Julio Jones draws so much attention whenever on the field.
Should You Start or Sit Calvin Ridley?.
What this really comes down to is that there isn't a strong enough argument not to start Ridley.
That specifically stands true in 12-team leagues with flex spots or 14-team leagues.
In turn, the decision depends on how your roster looks and what other options you have at wideout and in the flex spot.
As for 10-team leagues, Ridley can almost certainly remain on the bench.
Unfortunately, this call isn't easy considering most fantasy football owners who have Ridley likely drafted him in a bench spot, so they have solid starters around him.
His matchup is fine, the upside is tremendous and he's getting love from his quarterback.
If you're up in the air about using Ridley or a player rated fairly close to him, there's a good chance his upside alone is worth giving him the edge this week.
But if you have top talent at wide receiver, don't overthink it and force the Falcons pass-catcher into your lineup.

Technology & Anxiety: Cause or Cure? - Duration: 8:04.
Hello, world.
I welcome you to LifeRocks.
You think about it.
Let's talk about it.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
I like news.
I'm sure you like news, as well.
There's somewhat a desire to keep up with what
is happening in the world.
But today, along with news, there
is what we call fake news.
So we've got to distinguish fake news from true news.
And during a time when fact has become dissipated
and truth has been diluted, people
don't know what to believe.
They believe whatever they find on their smartphone screen.
I wish we were as smart as our phones were.
A stupid user, like me, sometimes
looks at stuff in the late night for news
and I find it difficult to discern
between true news and fake news.
The problem with fake news, it actually
generates social discontent.
And we get angry with people we don't know, or we don't like,
and then there's conflict, things spread,
there's lynching in the streets.
Worse than that, it's also inner discontent.
Did you know that Indian students
check their emails 150 times a day, look at the screens?
And they also say they have loneliness, dissatisfaction,
and anxiety, even suicidal tendencies.
So the problem of addiction to the screen is a challenge.
I actually have an app which tells me
how much screen time I spend every day.
I'm not proud of most of it.
This morning, when I was writing this talk,
my app said I'd already spent an hour and 37 minutes
before 11:00 AM.
And I don't know what it's going to be tonight.
How can we address this matter of anxiety,
loneliness, and dissatisfaction where we are asking technology
to travel life with us?
That is a real problem.
Now there's a huge amount of discussion
whether the technology companies are responsible for it
or the users are responsible for that kind of decision.
The technology companies are conflicted because the more
time you, as a user, spend on their app,
the better their revenues.
And so we cannot trust them to limit our exposure
to their apps.
And now they're blaming them for creating addiction by design.
So we've got authors now saying, let the technology
companies take the blame and they should do what they must.
I'm talking however, to you as a fellow technology user,
should we do what we must?
Yes.
And how can we do what we must, especially
if it leads to loneliness, and dissatisfaction, and anxiety?
That's a really deep problem.
Two recent authors have actually said
that you need to ask questions like, by using this app,
am I happy at the end of the day or unhappy?
Or they ask a larger question, by using this app,
at the end of my life, would I have
said I've used my time wisely?
Is it generating addiction or is it harmful?
Those are good questions.
We ask them, but even though we know the answers
to the questions, we don't know how to live those answers.
How do we go about addressing this matter?
Well, it's all a matter of trust,
let me address this, because technology trusts me,
trusts you.
For example, when I start my car and start moving,
it says I am not driving as an option.
So I don't want to be dishonest and lie that I'm not
driving while I'm driving, so what
I do is I pull to the nearest light,
completely stop, I hit the I'm not driving,
and now I can make my phone calls.
I try not to look at other more distracting apps and so on.
So technology trusts us.
And we trust technology too.
We are asking it for information.
Sometimes, technology provides good information.
It gives good sources and services.
Whether you should trust the technology
companies is a deeper issue.
And I've already told you that technology companies,
they exist, and survive, and become
successful by the amount of time that you use their apps.
The real question is whether you can trust yourself.
Can you trust yourself to limit your app exposure?
And technology companies smile, because you
don't have the power to limit your app exposure.
It has become addictive.
We think it's by design, but it's really by our habit
and by our desires.
So what can you do?
I want you to think through the deeper question,
if you're looking to technology for the sake of handling
your loneliness, your dissatisfaction,
and your anxiety, technology cannot be your eternal Savior.
It can give you some temporary relief, some temptations
to which you can yield, and you know what I'm talking about.
But what you need for your loneliness, dissatisfaction,
and anxiety cannot be found there.
You need an eternal Savior--
and technology is not, even a technology company is not--
an eternal personal Savior who can give you peace
in the middle of your dissatisfaction,
who can give you calmness in the middle of your anxiety, who
can give you assurance in the middle of your loneliness.
And that is exactly what the Lord Jesus gives to us,
because loneliness, dissatisfaction, anxiety
are caused by a still deeper problem called sin.
We have transgressed.
We have rebelled.
And as long as we don't have our relationship with God right,
we are going to face that.
But once that relationship with God
is established by trusting Him, rather than technology
companies, or ourselves, or anything else,
by trusting Him He says, I will walk you
through as your eternal Savior, even when you're lonely,
even when you're dissatisfied, even when you're anxious.
So whom do you trust in the middle
of your desires and your habits to keep you from addiction
and keep you from harming others?
I present to you the Giver of peace
in the middle of technology and its challenges.
You think about it.
Let's talk about it.
