Thousands of Google employees around the world walk out over sexual harassment scandals - Duration: 2:09.

in New York more than 3000 Google employees held demonstrations in a city

park and in Dublin at dozens of Google employees marched along sidewalks while

in Zurich thousands poured out of office buildings to chant

outside ones Irwin explains what's driving them to protest against the tech

giant from Tokyo to San Francisco thousands of Google employees walked out

of work on Thursday at 11:10 a.m. local time to protest sexual misconduct inside

the company many were holding signs with slogans expressing frustration at how

their workplace has turned a blind eye to sexual harassment and discrimination

the protests were prompt by an article in The New York Times last week that

revealed Google had paid 90 million u.s. dollars in an exit package to Android

creator Andy Rubin who left the company in 2014 this began a turbulent week for

Google as it had previously claimed that none of the 48 people had fired for

sexual harassment over the last two years had received an exit package

Google employees around the world have come out to ask for a real change this

time I think this was you know the 90 million dollars straw that broke the

camel's back to be honest but there are so many stories that we've heard for so

long and it's time for action and change real change that's why we're calling

this movement for real change sir the truth

still matters to people and then if the truth is not recognized by those in

leadership positions that they should figure out a way to find that troops in

the cells and we will tell them for them as well I'm walking out along with other

colleagues in support of anyone in any workplace who has been arrest and to

ensure that perpetrators are not protected and not rewarded

while the walkout lasted just for one day the employees anger will continue to

smolder until they see a clear change in the way such harassment cases are

Google Titan Security Key Bundle | How to Set Up Advanced Online Protection - Duration: 4:03.

- Hey guys, it's Josh of VPN Video Reviews.

I am excited because today I just got in the mail

my Titan Security Key by Google.

In this video we gonna walk through exactly

how to set up these keys to secure your online accounts.

(mystical sound)

So, we're gonna begin by opening up the box

for the Titan Security Key.

This bundle comes with a getting started package

and a warranty page.

And of course you've got the USB key and the Bluetooth key

that I'm gonna keep on my key chain.

They're also so kind as present you

with a USB to Micro-USB cable and a USB-C to USB adapter.

Okay, now that we have our keys let's jump on over

to the computer and get the set-up on Google.

Alright, I'm gonna click up here, going to my Google account

and I'm gonna sign in in security.

And what I'm looking for is the two step verification

that you see down here.

Now, this two step verification can be done

in a number of different ways,

but right now I already have it set up

to do two step verification for my phone

with my phone number right here.

Now, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna scroll down

and you see you can add up backup codes, a Google Prompt.

These are different ways to set up

two factor authentication,

but I'm going to add a security key.

So, I do have a security key

and I'm going to register the key by going ahead

and plugging it in.

There we go.

And then I'm gonna tab the button.

And I'm gonna allow.

And I'm gonna name that, I'm just gonna say

Josh's Wireless Key.

Alright, and that is done.

So, that one is been secured.

And then I'm going to add another security key

and that's where I'm gonna plug in my USB device over here.

And then press the button.

Click allow.

And that's going to add this security key

which I'm gonna call Josh's USB Key.

So, now I'm done, I've added both of

these keys and so I have the option

for security of both, my phone number as well as these keys.

So now the next step is get this all set up on my phone.

Now, as you can see here I've already downloaded

the Google Smart Lock App.

And I'm gonna use this app to sign in to my account.

Now, it's worth noting that this is an app

that I downloaded in addition to having

like a Gmail app or something else.

It's not something that replaces it.

So, at this point I'm going to press this button

on my key fob here, the security key

until the blue light starts blinking.

And when that does I'm going to pair the security key.

And it's getting into pairing mode and I find it here.

That's going to ask me for a digit

that is on the back of this device.

And I'm going to put in that digit here.

Now, I've put in that digit and I've paired the device

and so I am secured to sign in.

And I am good to go.

Great, now that we've set things up,

both on our computer and our phone,

anytime we wanna lock in, to say Gmail or Facebook

we just need to have this Bluetooth key with us.

If we're on our phone or we need to plug in

this USB key into our computer.

Once I said up this computer as a trusted device

I don't necessary have to do that every single time.

But if I wanted to go to a public computer

or a friend's computer all I need to do is bring this key

in order to log in and they'll know that it's me.

Congratulations, you have set up your security key.

The same can be done not just for Gmail but also for

Facebook and a number of other online applications.

If you wanna learn more about two factor authentication

you can watch this video here.

If you would like to buy the Google Titan Security Key

that I just showed you that link is here

or in the description below.

I appreciate any likes on this video if it was helpful.

Questions go in the comments below.

Thank you for watching and have a wonderful week.

Google workers around world walkout after sexual misconduct allegations - Duration: 0:54.

thousands of Google's staff across the world have staged a series of walk outs

in protest at claims of sexual harassment gender inequality and

systematic systematic racism Thursday's demonstrations comes a week after it was

reported that Google gave a 90 million dollar severance package to Andy Rubin

the creator of Android while hiding that he had been accused of sexual misconduct

Reuben has denied those allegations the protesting workers have made several

demands including an end to pay inequality as well as greater

transparency about sexual harassment Google CEO sundar Pichai insisted the

firm had taken what he called a hard-line / sexual misconduct and would

Google Home Features Update 7: November 2018 - Duration: 12:33.

October again proved to be a very busy month in the world of Google Home and

the Google Assistant. Google announced a bunch of new things that their event in

early October including a brand new device for the Google Home family called

the Google Home Hub so in this features update video we've got a lot to talk

about especially in regards to smart displays and the Google Assistant, so

let's get started. This is 6 Months Later.

Google announced a ton of stuff at their event in early October from the new

Google home hub to the pixel 3 to the pixel slate tablet there was just a lot

to digest now one of the most interesting features I thought that

Google talked about at the event in regards to the Google assistant wasn't

actually with the home hub we'll get to that in a second it was actually with

the pixel 3 and what this feature allowed pixel 3 users to do was to have

the Google assistant pick up an incoming phone call using Google's duplex

technology now we've seen Google duplex before they did a demo of it back in May

2018 at their IO Developers Conference where the Google assistant would go out

and call up a restaurant or hair salon to make an appointment on a user's

behalf with the pixel 3 the Google assistant will actually pick up the

phone call and have a conversation with the person trying to screen the call and

figure out exactly what they're calling about now as a user you can actually

take out the pixel 3 see on the lock screen and see a transcription of the

conversation happening between the Google assistant and the person on the

other end of the phone call in real time on the phone screen and not only that

users will have options to tell the Google assistant what to tell the person

on the other end of the line next this feature makes it so users don't have to

pick up those annoying political phone calls or telemarketing calls ever again

you can just let the Google assistant endure the misery of talking to those

people now let's talk about the other thing that Google announced at their

event that has a huge impact on the Google home ecosystem and that's the

Google home hub this cute little smart display retails right now in the US for

$150 and right off the bat I have to say that I think this thing is going to be

huge this holiday season Google is going to sell a lot of these devices and it

all has to do with the software of their smart displays so first up let's take a

look at the home controls now while the largest

features Google has rolled out in conjunction with the home hub is the new

smart control interface that accompany the redesign of the Google home app on

your phone google has completely revamped how you

interact with your smart home appliances thanks to this new design while

implementing one huge new feature and that is multiple homes with multiple

homes you can be the member of multiple smart households this is really handy

especially if you bought your parents or friends or grandparents smart devices

and previously you've had those smart devices linked to your Google account

all under the same household now you can split out these devices and

create multiple homes so your parents won't accidentally turn off your lights

when talking to devices at their house that are linked to your Google account

Google didn't just stop there though with their smart control redesign you

now have a button that turns on and off everything in your household which is

very convenient you also have a new button that controls your thermostat at

the top as well and you can adjust it from the screen and even change the mode

of the thermostat further on down in the new smart home interface you get a

breakout of all of your devices in each room Google makes it easy to be able to

adjust lights turn them different colors straight music to your speakers or

speaker groups all right from the convenience of this new home design one

of the more interesting applications of this design is not with the home app but

actually with the Google smart displays Google is basically creating an entirely

new category of devices that now serve as the central device to be able to

control all of the smart appliances and devices within your home it's always on

it's in the same place and it can control everything in your house now

sure there have been niche devices that have done this before that were

touchscreens typically in larger houses for more

affluent people but there has never been anything on the scale of what Google is

trying to do with its smart display strategy

and controlling all of your home devices any interface as simple as they have

laid it out now let's move on though to what you really want to hear more about

which is the Google home hub now the Google home hub is not the first Google

assistant smart display to be released onto the market there are actually two

others before it from Lenovo and JPL but the Google home hub is the first Google

design smart display to be brought into the market and it looks like as of now

it is probably the best one now one of the largest differences between the

Google home hub and its peers is its size it's much smaller with its

seven-inch diagonal screen but don't let that size fool you this screen is

insanely good Google has built ambient light and color temperature sensors into

the device that make the photos that appear on the display look like they

would if they were printed out on mat photo paper no matter the surrounding

lighting color or brightness what you'll see on the Google home hub most of the

time are photos this occurs when the device is in what Google calls ambient

mode ambient mode allows you to display a variety of things on your screen

including photos art gallery a full-screen clock or experimental now

the most popular one people are going to choose though is of course going to be

photos the photos you can display are being pulled from Google photos and you

have a few options of what photos can be displayed you can choose your favorites

certain albums recent highlights or you can select family and friends you want

to see photos of when new photos are taken of those family and friends that

you selected and upload it to Google photos they'll automatically update and

appear on the smart display and don't worry Google will automatically try to

not put bad or blurry photos onto your smart display in that slideshow so with

these devices you're getting the best photo frame ever made to date a

centralized screen to control all of your home smart appliances you're

probably sold already but you may be asking yourself well what else can the

Google smart display do well in short a lot but let's dive in

the Google smart display software has a pretty simple user interface to get back

to a previous screen you slide your finger from the left edge of the screen

to the right to see volume and brightness settings swipe up from the

bottom of the screen to access those controls swipe down from the top of the

screen to access your smart home controls and if you're in ambient mode

and want to see the main display window just tap the screen now obviously

Google's smart displays come with the Google assistant just like you get Alexa

with an Amazon echo show however Google's attention to detail in their

smart display visual design really stands out and let's just go over a few

examples of that when you ask Google a question on the smart display it'll show

you the text of what the assistant heard so you can see if it missed part of your

query when asking Google what the weather will be you for the week if

there is rain in the forecast you'll actually hear rain or a thunderstorm

sound and when telling Google to repeat after me it'll display a little parrot

icon which is just adorable another incredibly useful feature for

the Google smart displays is recipes now before our Google could guide you

through a recipe through a Google home speaker but actually being able to see

the steps that the Google assistant is guiding you through takes this

experience to another level plus Google has actually expanded their library of

recipes that you have to choose from so the experience is just that much better

when combined with the Google home smart displays Google show me a recipe for

Canelli ok here are some recipes Google will guide you through the ingredients

you need first displaying a nice looking picture for each one then it'll guide

you through the recipes instruction but let's say you need help with a certain

cooking technique for a recipe you're trying to make well the Google smart

displays got you covered there as well because it has

YouTube integrated into it so you can just ask Google for a certain cooking

technique video on YouTube and it'll play right there on the device or you

can watch videos of your favorite tech review websites on your google smart

display as well yeah that's right you can watch videos like this one right on

the Google home hub lastly another key feature that Google has in their smart

displays is an integration with Google News now on our previous features update

video I talked about how you can ask Google for a specific news topic and

it'll then read out certain news stories based around the topic you asked it

about with the Google smart display as Google has gone a step further parsing

out videos from your Google news feed that it can then display this even works

when you ask your Google home hub about a specific news topic it'll show you

videos of that new topic that you can select from overall I think the Google

smart displays add a lot to the original Google home experience there are just

some interactions you have with the Google assistant where it makes much

more sense to have visual feedback accompanied with audio feedback then

just audio feedback by itself I think the Google home hub is also a really

compelling device with its gorgeous display price point and sighs I think

this device is going to prove very versatile as to where people place it

within their home it can go in a lot of different locations within the average

home and on a very simple level I have to say that every interaction I've ever

had with my Google home hub this far has been a positive one every time I walk by

or sit at my desk and look at the screen and watch the photos of friends and

family fade in and out I just can't help but smile and feel good and any product

that can create that amount of positive interactions over the course of just a

single day is definitely one to watch out for and one to buy so be sure to

stay tuned for our six months later review of the Google home

hobb that'll be out early next year and if you liked this video please be sure

to give us a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel to see more google home

features update videos like this one also if you'd like to read our reviews

Is Google a monopoly? | CNBC Explains - Duration: 3:42.

When is a big company too big?

In July, the European Commission fined Google a record- breaking $5 billion for violating EU antitrust rules.

It said Google had abused its power in the mobile phone market with Android devices.

It wasn't the first time Google faced an antitrust fine, and it might not be the last.

Let's start by trying to understand what a monopoly is. The dictionary says it's...

In other words, it's the only seller in a market.

We've seen plenty of famous monopolies throughout history,

from Standard Oil in the 1890s to Microsoft in the 1980s.

There are a few common things that happen when there's a monopoly,

barriers to enter a market, a lack of competition, unfair advantages, control over prices and, often, regulation.

Here's what happened with Standard Oil Trust in the nineteenth century.

Around 1880, the company controlled roughly 90% of U.S. oil production.

It bought out smaller companies and had nearly total control over prices for consumers.

This worried regulators.

By 1911 the Supreme Court decided Standard Oil had to be broken up in a landmark antitrust ruling.

So is Google a modern-day monopoly like Standard Oil?

The European Commission thinks so, at least in certain parts of its business.

Here's where Google got in trouble with its Android operating system.

Android runs more than 80% of the world's mobile devices like smartphones today.

EU regulators said Google forced these device makers to pre-install Google apps like Search and Chrome,

making it more difficult for competing apps to gain traction.

The EU ordered Google to unbundle its apps from Android devices, which it recently agreed to do.

This wasn't the only time the EU hit Google for breaking antitrust rules.

In 2017, regulators fined the company $2.7 billion for abusing its dominance in the search market.

Google's search engine has around 90% of market share in Europe.

The European Commission said the company abused its dominance in the search market

by giving its comparison shopping service an illegal advantage over rivals.

Let's say I was looking for a new pair of headphones.

Google's comparison shopping service listed a bunch of options at the top of the page.

It was much more likely I'd click on those top results, generating revenue for Google

and not a rival comparison shopping service further down the page.

Yelp, for example, has complained to the EU that Google unfairly promotes its own search results,

making it less likely users will click on other listings and reviews.

The risk is that Google is stifling innovation and competition.

One thing to note is that it's not illegal just to be a monopoly here in the EU.

It's when monopolies abuse their power at the expense of consumers that they can start to get in trouble.

Here's where it gets tricky with Google.

It says it actually helps consumers by having a dominant position in the market.

CEO Sundar Pichai argues Android's operating system creates

more choices for consumers at an affordable price.

This where Google's monopoly is a little bit different than historical examples like Standard Oil.

Unlike oil, the services that Google provides are mostly free.

It can be hard to see how Google's dominance is harming consumers

when many of us can't imagine life without Google Maps or Search, apps that are free.

So far the European Union has taken a lead when it comes to regulating big tech.

The full EU fines are still a small portion of Google's overall revenue.

But if more regulators start trust-busting, the bills could add up.

Hey everyone, Elizabeth here. Thanks so much for watching our video.

Across the globe, Google employees walk out to protest sexual misconduct, inequity - Duration: 6:16.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Thousands of employees walked out of Google offices in more than 40 locations

around the world today, protesting the company's handling of sexual misconduct claims.

The New York Times reported last week that Google had paid millions of dollars to departing

executives accused of sexual harassment, and never made the allegations public.

Among them, Android creator Andy Rubin, who received $90 million on his way out the door.

Rubin denies forcing a female Google employee into a sexual act, despite the fact that an

internal investigation found the claim credible.

Employees in New York City held a rally after leaving their office, and called for a broader

cultural shift at the company.

WOMAN: We demand structural change in the name of transparency, accountability, and

equity.

TANUJA GUPTA, Google Employee: This is not really just for myself.

It's for everyone here.

We also know that we have the eyes of many companies looking at us.

And we have always been a vanguard company, so if we don't lead the way, nobody else will.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Katie Benner co-wrote that original New York Times story that disclosed

how Google has handled sexual misconduct claims.

She's been following the walkouts today, and she joins me now.

Katie Benner, thank you for joining us once again.

Was this the turnout that had been expected today?

KATIE BENNER, The New York Times: This turnout exceed expectations by far.

We had reported that we expected about 1,500 people.

Other people thought it would be a few thousand.

At this point, we have, you know, unverified accounts, but clearly a lot of head count

going on, of up to more than 10 percent of the company's overall 94,000 employees has

walked out today.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Of the people you have talked to, what's motivating them?

KATIE BENNER: Sure.

I think they feel motivated by a few things.

There's been a long-simmering tension within Google about the way that women are treated.

It's not just the idea that sexual harassment has gone unaddressed.

Its also the fact that Google has refused to be transparent about whether or not men

and women are paid equally.

It's the idea that top leaders of the company, by having high-profile affairs that were very

obvious, they were known secrets, that they treated the women at the company like their

personal dating pool.

And what kind of message does that send?

And then, of course, the straw that probably broke the camel's back was the report that

Andy Rubin received $90 million, which is an extraordinary sum, after a credible claim

of sexual assault.

These things altogether send a clear message, which is that men are more valued than women.

And for a company as important as Google, as high-profile, where the employees are as

highly paid, they said that the time -- it's now the time to stop.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Treating women as their own personal dating pool, that stood out to me

as something you just said.

I mean, describe what was going -- the culture there.

KATIE BENNER: Well, interestingly, the woman who accused Andy Rubin of assaulting her,

she was an employee.

There were other employees who he dated at the company.

David Drummond, the chief legal officer, he dated a woman at the company.

In that case, she ended up leaving.

And you can see that their career trajectories were very different.

He has become extraordinarily wealthy and is one of the most important men in Silicon

Valley, if not the United States.

And then, of course, Sergey Brin, one of the founders, he also had a high-profile affair.

That woman is also no longer at the company, losing out on the extraordinary compensation

packages that Google pays its employees, while he remains one of the largest shareholders

with a controlling vote in the company, and, of course, no consequences for him either.

JUDY WOODRUFF: So what are -- the women who walked out today, what do they want, women

and men employees at the company?

KATIE BENNER: Yes, I think it's important to emphasize that it wasn't just women walking

out.

It was people of all gender identities, of all ages, of all races and ethnicities walking

out in support of a broader movement for more equity at Google.

They wanted very specific things.

They demanded greater accountability, a transparency report around sexual harassment, sexual misconduct

at the company.

They wanted a representative on the board of the company, an employee representative

to -- who could speak to the board and say, this is what the employees want and what we're

concerned about.

They also wanted a pay equity report.

They wanted transparency around whether women are truly being paid less than men.

And they also wanted a global, unified way to report sexual misconduct that would be

safe.

JUDY WOODRUFF: And what is the company saying about this?

I saw the company said to employees, in terms of this walkout, go ahead, you're welcome

to do it.

But what are they saying about these other points that they're being asked to change?

KATIE BENNER: I think the company's been very quiet.

Sundar Pichai, the leader of the company, has been very, very smart about how he's handled

this.

He's been supportive of the rallies.

He says he's been supportive of the employees.

But we won't really understand exactly where he stands until we see whether or not he takes

seriously the demands made by the employees.

These are not extraordinarily off-the-wall, crazy, extreme demands.

In many ways, they are quite reasonable, especially for a company in which, again, Sergey Brin

and Larry Page control all the voting shares, and they do make all the final decisions.

So, these are just questions, queries and demands, saying, we would like a little bit

more accountability in this situation.

JUDY WOODRUFF: How does Google, Katie Benner, compare to other Silicon Valley's -- Silicon

Valley companies in terms of transparency, treating -- giving women opportunity to rise

up through the ranks?

KATIE BENNER: So, that's one of the debates that has been around Google and a lot of Silicon

Valley companies forever.

I think that the culture of technology is that, merit always wins out.

If you work really hard, and you're the smartest, you will rise.

I have never seen an industry or reported on an industry that believes that more than

the technology industry.

Google is the leader of the industry, and they probably have spoken about that more

than any other company.

At the end of the day, though, if you look at the number of women who work at the company,

and if you look at the lack of transparency around pay data, if you look at incidents

like Andy Rubin, I think there's a strong case to be made that that's not the case.

And so the employees now, very data-driven, they want to know what the facts are, they

want to know the numbers, and they feel they can use that to help create a solution.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Katie Benner, reporting on all this for The New York Times, thank you.

KATIE BENNER: Thank you.
