A Chance Encounter That Changed Lives - Duration: 4:02.
- I believe my next guests were destined to meet
so they could help a little girl in need.
Doug is a teacher and a part-time Uber driver
who happened to pick up Mike,
an engineering student at the University of Notre Dame.
Now, while driving, Doug shared
that his daughter was born with a birth defect
leaving here with only one finger on each hand.
Little did he know that Mike was a member
of an engineering club that was
designing a 3D prosthetic hand.
There's so much more to this story,
and I'd rather let them tell it.
Please welcome Doug, his daughter Tori, and Mike.
(audience applauding)
So how did the conversation begin?
You're a passenger.
He's a part-time Uber driver.
How did this conversation get started?
- So I'm the type of guy that likes to
sit in the front seat
and chats the Uber driver's ear off.
And I asked him about his family.
He was talking about his daughters
and how one of them had a birth defect with her fingers.
And once I heard that, my heart just kind of
like skipped a beat 'cause I'm part of
this club at the University of Notre Dame
that we basically 3D print prosthetic hands.
I kind of like sunk in my seat like,
"Wait, we can do something about this."
I told him, "Here's my email.
"If you're interested, send me an email."
I got home.
Less that like a half hour later, I got an email
saying, "We'd love you to take a look at Tori."
And the rest is history.
(audience applauding)
- How does this work, man?
How do you make a 3D-printed hand?
- So, in Tori's case what we did is
we took measurements of Tori's hand.
With those measurements, we put them
into our own software.
And then, from there, we sent that information
to a 3D printer.
And once we had that 3D object,
we assembled it into a functional hand.
And then once we had the functional hand,
we fit it to Tori.
And once you go through all the steps,
you have a 3D-printed hand.
- So let's see these cool hands you've got.
So you can operate the fingers yourself?
How does that work?
- I just bend my wrist and it moves the fingers
down.
- So you use your wrist to bend it down?
And that causes your fingers to curve?
Really - Mm-hmm.
(audience applauding)
- Let me ask you this, Tori:
What's your favorite thing to do with your new hands?
- I like to play catch with my dad.
(audience applauding)
- So, Mike, you and the other students,
you do this free of charge
and volunteer your time?
- Yeah.
(audience applauding)
- Okay, this is not coincidence.
- No, it's God.
- It's serendipity.
- God brings all things together.
- You know what my mother always told me?
She said, "Steve, whenever something unexplainable happens
"in your life, that's God."
- Amen.
- 'Cause he does the unexplainable all the time.
This is a great story.
I'm so happy that you can play baseball with your dad.
I mean that's gotta be the coolest thing.
Doug, look, I know you and your wife, Mary, work hard
as teachers, and you got other daughters.
We want to help you out, man.
So we're gonna give you a check for $5,000.
(audience applauding)
I mean, that's the least we can do.
And, man, we'd like to keep up with this story.
Let us know.
Hey, Doug and Tori, thank you for being here.
Hey, Mike, good luck with your career, man.
You're gonna be major.
Don't go away, everybody.
We'll be right back.
(audience applauding)

John McDonnell says he would vote Remain in a second Brexit referendum - News Live - Duration: 1:59.
John McDonnell has said he would vote Remain if there was a second referendum - unlike Jeremy Corbyn who has so far refused to say
In comments which will please Labour Remainers, the shadow chancellor also revealed that a second poll "might be an option we seize upon"
. He admitted for the first time that Remain should be on the ballot paper in any fresh poll but that "no deal" should not
Previously Mr McDonnell had argued that staying in the EU should not be an option
This worried the largely remain-backing Labour membership - especially after conference voted to support a second poll if a general election was not an option
He told a Guardian Live event on Tuesday night: "We can't have no deal on the ballot paper," McDonnell said
"There's an overwhelming majority in parliament against that happening, because of the damage
" The shadow chancellor said he expected Theresa May's deal to be voted down when it comes to the Commons
He explained that she was then likely to go back to the EU and return with a modified deal - which he believes will also fail
"All through that, we will be calling for a general election," he said. "Whether and when we put a vote of no confidence down will be a tactical decision
We'll want a maximum effect." Mr McDonnell said that Labour had been meeting with the SNP, the Lib Dems and Caroline Lucas of the Greens
He also admitted speaking to the People's Vote campaign, including Alastair Campbell and Ed Miliband's former adviser Tom Baldwin
"If we can't get a general election, people's vote is on the table and that might be an option we seize upon," he said
But he added that before that Labour would offer their own deal.

Do Airbnb or VRBO Come with Cleaning or Have a Maid on Staff? - Duration: 4:30.
Do most Airbnb's come with a cleaning service?
That is a great question, and we're going to talk about that today.
Hi there, I'm Angela Brown and this is Ask a House Cleaner.
This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question,
and I get to help you find an answer.
Today's show is brought to us by TurnoverCleaningTips.com
That is a website for all of the house cleaners and the Airbnb hosts that do the turnover
service to get it ready for the guest before they come, so they do all of the cleaning,
they change the linens, they make the beds, they put on all the lights, and they make
sure the keys are where they're supposed to be, and they decorate the house, and make
sure there's shampoo, and conditioner, and all of those things.
It's staging, it's cleaning, it's creating the ambience as a guest that you expect when
you arrive.
It's called turnover service.
TurnoverCleaningTips.com Now, I would like to share with you this.
On the website, there's an area called gifts, and if you stay at an Airbnb, and you love
your host, and you want to get them a little something extra, these are the kinds of gifts
that hosts love.
On to today's show, which is from a person that's going to stay at an Airbnb and they
want to know, does it come with a cleaning service?
There is a cleaning service that comes between every guest, and that's called turnover service.
They're going to get the place ready for the next guest.
But there's not a mid-stay cleaning that is typically provided with a short term stay.
Now, a long term stay, which is more than five days, usually does have some kind of
a cleaning service that will either provide extra towels, or extra sheets, or maybe they
pick up the laundry, or something like that.
They will give you rules and regulations for a long term stay.
Now, lots of people that have multi week, let's say that it's two, or three, or four
weeks, they have a mandatory cleaning that they say "Just in order to maintain our house,
we're going to come in every week and clean the place."
That does include part of the cleaning service, and you are charged for that.
It comes with the contract.
It's not included in the price, because you do have to pay extra for the cleaning, because
they have to hire an extra cleaning service to still come in and maintain the house.
If they didn't, suddenly this place would look like your place, not saying you're a
slob, but some people take liberties when they're out on the road.
So, in order to maintain the property so that when you leave, it's right back to where it
was without a whole bunch of serious cleaning.
Mid stay cleans are what they're called, and that's for long term stays.
That's like five days and beyond.
Usually even within a week period, all they're going to give you are extra towels and extra
linens.
They don't actually come in and clean.
They may come and take the trash away.
It's going to be something simple.
Most Airbnb's, or most vacation rentals, will have a closet, or a set of cleaning supplies,
and in there, there should be a multi-purpose cleaner, a glass cleaner, there should be
a vacuum and a mop, there should be the basics.
If you find yourself in a situation where you made a mess, you should be able to clean
it up and make it back to new before you leave, that way you're not going to be charged extra
for an extra cleaning, or a cleaning deposit, or whatever that was extra because it didn't
fall in the categories of whatever you paid for.
Most Airbnb's will clean up between long term stays, and they do absolutely clean up
between every short-term stay.
Absolutely.
But, if you're just there for a couple days, three/four days, kind of know you're kind
of on your own.
Check with the rules and regulations for every property that you stay at, because every host
has the ability to change their rules just a little bit.
For the most part, there's not a maid, there's not a person that's going to come every day
and make your bed, they're not going to do turn down service, they're not going to bring
you goodies every day.
They're not going to restock your mini bar.
Once you're there, you're there and you're kind of on your own.
Alrighty.
If you found this tip helpful, please share it with a friend, and until we meet again,
leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it.

My Life as an Actor - Actors' Life Series - Duration: 9:18.
I've been an actor since
The early mid 80s about 35 years now
I thought maybe I should just talk to people who
Maybe aren't actors yet
or we're considering becoming an actor or have dreams of being an actor and
They want to know what an actor's life is really like is it possible? Is it hard?
What are the ups and downs? What kinds of things might you not be aware of?
Is it the right career for you to make? This video is sort of a loose form
conversation with myself
To tell you about my experience as an actor and what it might be like for you
Hello, I'm Doug Fahl,
Your augmented actor helping you augment your acting career with tips tactics and tech
If this is your first time seeing one of my videos
Please consider subscribing to my channel because I produce content like this all the time
Please hit that notification bell so that you will get a message whenever I post new content
This is a series of videos on what it's like to be an actor
There's so many reasons so many things about being an actor to touch upon. I don't even know where to begin
Let me just tell you a little bit about how I got involved in acting
I was a very shy kid
And I never wanted to get on stage at all. When I would watch TV shows and things like that and I kind of always
Wanted to do I wanted to be those actors or thought I could be better than those actors
But I never really thought it was possible
And I was so shy and so scared to get up in front of people and talk. My friends thought
There's no way I would ever be an actor or a singer or anything like that--anything performance-based
And so I had a friend actually in junior high school
He dared me to take a theater class in high school
If someone tells me I can't do it or I wouldn't dare to do it
it usually makes me want to at least show them that they're wrong. So I took him up on his dare and
I took a theater class and the first time I stepped up
Our first assignment was to do... read a poem...bring a poem in
and recite it in front of the class and I just remember being so nervous. And so
electrified and the adrenaline rush kicked in. I read my poem and people laughed and they
Applauded they were supposed to laugh and applaud. It was that kind of poem. It was a funny poem.
They weren't laughing at me
But I felt the warmth of an audience and the elation and then the relief of being done
afterwards and it was just an elating experience and I was hooked ever since. It was the magic of
theater
imbibing me. It
drew me into it and it's been that way ever since. It's been my number one passion and along the way...
I did it through high school. I played a few small roles in the shows, and I really wasn't very good
I tried to be a good actor, but I'm just like this like tiny little kid playing an old man in high school
that's all they have is tiny little kids playing old people, but
You look back and you go like "oh gosh, I was so horrible!"
I was so green and so fresh, but I knew I could do it
So I signed up for a university program at the University of Utah... started in their actor training program
I just wanted to be an actor. I did a first year of that and I got to the end and we had like this little
Test. We had to perform a piece and a scene and do an interview process to continue on to the second year
Well, I
unfortunately was one of those actors that was just not up to par
with some of the others so I was not chosen to go on in the actor training program.
I was still pretty green.
I had a lot to learn about
acting back then, but I still felt like my passion was there and I knew I could do this.
So I had the musical theater department head contact me and say "hey, would you like to come be in the musical theatre department?"
I'm like, "well, I don't know if I can sing or dance, I don't have much experience with that."
He said "well that's what it's for is to learn that."
I joined the musical theater department and spent my last three years learning how to dance.
I learned ballet and jazz and tap and modern and folk and partnering and I learned how to sing and I learned how to
play the piano even better and I learned how to teach other kids.
I started teaching theater school for the youth. I started directing and stage managing and behind the scenes kind of stuff.
So I got a really great education and it was very valuable. As I left college
my teachers were telling me that you know, they think I'm ready. They think I'm good.
They think I just need to go out and live life a little bit more.
And so that's what I did as soon as I got out of university. I got into a relationship
I moved up to Seattle started experiencing
life... finding a job, getting an apartment, paying bills-- doing all those things that I didn't expect to do.
It's very easy as an actor to lose focus and to forget about acting because you've got so many other things
Demands of you as a human being in this world. As soon as I moved up to Seattle. I started auditioning for shows and
started connecting with people and I'd do one show and I'd meet people and then they
tell you about other shows and you hear about other auditions and you just sort of start building a network.
Then there was a period where I kind of got tired and burned out on theater
and I stopped doing it and I went like maybe a year or two not doing any theater.
I got a lot of other things done, but something was still calling in me, and I thought you know what?
I'm out of this. Nobody knows who I am anymore. I have a fresh start.
I'm going to go an audition for just the shows I want to do and I'm gonna go in and
be passionate about it and I got show after show after show after that. I really started meeting
some of my current friends it really grew.
Then I decided I wanted to start doing some films so I went got an agent. I didn't have much film background. I had done
a few little student film kinds of things. I had gained some acting chops as a theater actor.
It was a little process to get an agent. I finally landed on one and I've been with that same agency for
25 years now probably 20 years
Maybe longer so a long time. I started getting a lot of commercial work some films various projects
Voiceovers all kinds of things like that
now I juggle all these little jobs that I have and
All the little freelancing opportunities and sources of income and then theater I get about one or two to three
Theater gigs a year and then it may be about twenty or so
Film or commercial type gigs a year and there's dry spells
Sometimes I can go like a couple years where I'm just not getting anything and I feel really frustrated and then other years
Like this coming year is looking my calendars filling up with theater events. And so I'm feeling really excited about it
I'm currently directing a show and I've got another big understudy gig coming up soon.
So that's a little background on how I got to be an actor and kind of the level I'm at now.
I've worked at a number of different theaters. I've worked for lots of different directors. I played all kinds of crazy roles
I've even got nominated for the Seattle Gregory Awards for some of my work recently.
I've been in two shows that have been nominated and I'm starting to become
the next level actor that I've worked hard to become. Along the way I've learned some tricks. I've learned how to
break out of my shell.
I've watched videos of my performances and I've seen like I wish I had seen this video before I
Did the show because I would have done it more better.
It's like sometimes you think you're doing a really great job as an actor
then you see yourself on tape and you go like, "oh I didn't... I wasn't doing what I thought I was doing.
I've learned how to be bigger, bolder, braver, stronger. Take more risks. I've learned how to
fine-tune myself as an actor and I've learned how to
draw upon other actors and other experiences in my life and bring them into my acting
so the more I learned the more it seems to snowball, the more opportunities I get. I feel like
a successful actor after
35 years of doing this. I've had feature films. I've had leading roles in plays and musicals.
I've worked at 20 or 30 different theaters in this area
I've worked
in all
different areas and aspects of the theater and film world and the virtual reality world now and now I'm tackling this YouTube channel
as an expression of myself as an actor and I'm working as a director now.
The narrative is
continuing on. It is
possible to be an actor and be a working actor and to be a happy working actor and a successful working actor. You just have
to define what that level of success is for you. You have to constantly be willing to
pick yourself up, brush yourself off and learn new skills and keep going. Keep going. Keep going
I hope that my story is an inspiration to you.
If there's anything that I said here today that made a little bell go off for you
please tell me down in the comments below
because I would love to hear what your perspective of this is and
As always if you see or know somebody who is an actor and might benefit from this
Please share this video with them and if you want to see more videos of mine
They are posted
Out and about this area here look above down below in the description
And you'll see other videos that I made love to see you and have a good day. Bye

An Atheist, a Christian, and the Difference That Could Have Been Made - Duration: 9:17.
I'm going to tell a story. There is a boy named Jimmy. Jimmy was born into a nice family,
went to the best schools, was well raised, and had lots of money. But for some reason,
he always felt like there was something missing. No matter how good of grades he got or how
much love his parents poured into him, or whatever material possessions he had, he felt
a certain, emptiness. There has to be something more. Sometimes in his head he would bounce
around the idea of there being some type of God, but whenever he entertained that he would
just quickly put it to rest, kill that thought based on the feeling that he was stupid and
kidding himself, and that'd be best for there not to be such a possibility. See, all
his life he was taught every day that God is just a myth, and that God couldn't possibly
be real with all the scientific evidence today. See he's been presented with this from such
a young age, he was told that anybody who believes in God is denying reality following
lies written on a page. That they are living in a lie just because they want to feel "comfortable"
and that they just want to believe in an "imaginary all knowing guy in the sky who loves everybody"
because it makes them feel good to believe and it helps to relieve their pains, and it
helps them avoid facing the sad truths of the universe like when we die we just die
and after just lie in our graves. He was convinced and molded, indoctrinated and scolded that
there is no God, Gods a misconception, a myth. Something idiots tell their kids. So Jimmy
grew up, having pushed the idea of a God so far away, that when people mention one, it
would fill his mind and body up with hate. He wanted to believe a long time ago, but
was pushed into the belief that God is nothing but a means for the self righteous to boast.
Now he hates nothing more than the believer shoving their beliefs down his throat. He
thinks there is no real reason for believing in this so called holy Ghost. He thinks they
just think he's a heathen hell bound for keepin the beliefs he holds. He combats this
with the reasons he's been taught that Jesus never rose. Bitterness grows and begins to
flow makes Christians his enemies and God his foe. God if you were real why didn't you
reveal yourself to us below?! Why are so many going to hell coz the truth they've never
had a chance to know? If you are so loving why is hell even a place people can go? See
Jimmy sought out the questions but forsook the answers. Jimmy wanted to question but
not in a truth seeking manner. His bitterness has turned him cold, and he feels every Christian
believes he is inferior because of the rules they uphold. This just has contributed to
the feelings of despising the truth that they know. Years pass in this war he's waged
against these self righteous pedestal standing drones and the message they claim. and he's
learned to avoid religion and the accusations they throw in God's name. He avoids and resents
even members of his own family back home that claim to now be "atoned". He lives years
and years in this mindset, with so much pent up resentment against this make believe God
and his henchmen. His hearts grown as hard and cold as a stone. Hes now growing old
and with cancer he's been diagnosed. He lay there on his deathbed waiting to pass
away. He believes eternity is make believe and when he dies, there's nothing left but
a body to decay. A preacher comes by his side and gives him one last chance to change. But
he refuses, he feels nothing for God and his christians except hate. Soon after, death
hovers over, looks him in the face, scoffs and says "Jimmy you took the bait".
Now imagine if a Christian had sat him down and shared with him there are reasons to believe
that Jesus is risen. What if they told him about the historical data in ancient times
written. Saying Jesus is alive, over 500 people saw him after he died and talked with him.
They ate food by his side and then many went on to die for holding to the truth that Jesus
was dead and found alive for the sin in the world. Then maybe if they shared the gospel,
he'd finally have a reason to listen. What if they shared that science actually points
to God, what if they showed him the philosophies proofs and evidences school never taught.
What if they actually treated him like an individual instead of just a number to check
off of their box. Then maybe he'd realize the world was wrong when it taught him to
mock and scoff at the belief in God. He could finally give into that thought that he thought
he lost when he was a kid, the thought that there could possibly be a God. A God that
loves and cares and in his sorrows shares and that would never never stop.
Now imagine a boy named Kevin, Kevin was raised in a Christian church going home. He was taught
to believe in God, to accept Jesus and try to make his faith his own. Without much question
he went along with the things he was taught and then eventually he was grown. He was homeschooled
and lived most his life alone, but now he's been put in life and was not braced for the
blow. He was ill prepared for the devil in the midst. These coworkers made fun of his
belief in God and he had no defense. they called him awkward weird and said he was just
living a facade like some kids. Said it was the same as kids hoping santa clause will
give them a bunch of gifts. They asked him why he even believed in this quote unquote
lie he chose. He realized he didn't really know, this weakened his faith and on their
words he began to choke. He was never really shown a proof outside the Bible to prove the
truth he's known. So he decided to try in fit in, started copying the things they did
like cussing making stupid jokes and all sorts of sin. He started to lose touch and completely
gave in, even when he got home decided to look up some of the things they told him to
on his phone. Quickly he was addicted to pornagraphy, coworkers gave him cigarettes and shared with
him their life philosophy. "There's nothing to live for but pleasure so ain't nothin stoppin
me" Kevin knew that world outlook was wrong, God was who we are to live for but he also
felt so cut off. His sin had put a barrier between him and God. Eventually his coworkers
became friends, they hung out every weekend. They'd get high drunk and stoned to no end.
Months go by and eventually Kevin began to cringe everytime God's name was mentioned.
His disobedience lead to rebellion. His rebellion lead to bitterness and doubt. And that lead
him to a path he never thought he'd go down. His faith in God was withering, about drowned.
Then one day, after years had passed. He bent down to pray and to God he asked, are you
there? Or are you just something I was taught to believe? Why should I have to stop doing
these things that make me happy? Just based on a belief there could maybe possibly be
some sort of a God that wants to put rules upon me? No longer will I believe, this stupid
world outlook I perceived, I was never taught reasons of your reality. Except those of the
Bible, but that's merely a self testimony. Science contradicts you, reason doesnt applict
to you, morality doesn't fit to you, so I don't wanna listen to you. You've been silent
my whole life, and there's no reason you provide, that I should ever even believe in any sort
of divine. So Kevin changed his mind, made himself believe God is nothing but a means
to confine. Later from a drug overdose he died, God took him out of the world early
to save him from his future life of sin. His coworkers never turned to God as a result
of him. He didn't know they were really just seeking for the truth to put their faith in.
But Kevin didn't know defense for the faith, and as a result his own began to sway. Eventually
it toppled over and death was the price he had to pay.
Let me tell you a new story. There was a kid named Kevin, he grew up in a home that taught
him about the Lord. He was taught the Bible, and went to church, and was saved about the
age of four. Once he turned old enough to understand, his father started teaching him
about God's great command. Go and make disciples throughout all the land. Kevin's dad went
on to explain, that this country we live in is a place of pain. That most don't believe
in God because of the way they were raised. And that in order to get through to these
people, and make disciples in Jesus name, we have to show them the truth in some unconventional
ways. So Kevin's father presented to him some strange things. Proofs of God's existence,
the very reasons we believe that Jesus indeed is risen. He showed him the 1,817 fulfilled
prophecies and showed him the Biblical foundations of all moral philosophy, he showed that without
a God there is no standard set for goodness to even be and that in order to not believe
in God, you are forced to abandon many realities. Like every effect has a cause, and that morals
arent subjective to what anybody wants, they are forced to object to any type of spiritual
clause and that the extremely precise measurements of the universe for life to exist came from
nothing more than some rocks. His father showed him many reasons to believe in God. So Kevin
never had to question if his beliefs were wrong, but if he did all he had to do was
take a second to pause, and think of all the proofs he was consistently taught. As Kevin
grew older he started to get puffed up with pride, thinking atheists are stupid, that
there's proof enough of God in the fact that they're alive. One day he had a run in with
one and put him to shame for believing in the evolutionary lie. Puffed up and proud
he couldn't wait to tell his dad how he smashed this atheist in debate and proved Jesus is
in fact alive. expecting him to be proud he told his dad about the exchange. "do you
even understand the reason these arguments I provide?" he said to his son "It's
to save souls not push them further away, I told you this world is full of pain and
hate, so why, would you make it worse by having pride proclaimed. These souls are lost. They
don't need to be pulled aside and put to shame for not having been taught. This man is equal
to us, he just never had a chance, because he was never brought a single reason to trust
in God or the Biblical stance. The opposite actually. He was taught belief in God is just
an item we bought to carry to make life a little less scary. Next time stop, and say
the truth in love, these people's souls are going to hell, lets try to bring them up with
us instead of in pride letting them drop. It's the whole reason we're here, let's
try to save these souls not implant in them more fear, that we as Christians will judge
them and condemn them if they come anywhere near". Then on Kevin had a new perspective.
Instead of arguing he's just going to try to get them to heaven. He doesn't care about
winning the argument anymore, he just wants to save these souls from this spiritual war.
The next time he met an atheist, it was one named Jimmy. This time Kevin was going to
try soul winning. Jimmy tried to argue but Kevin just presented love. The gospel and
the arguments he learned is what he used to try to pull Jimmy's soul up. Jimmy was caught
off guard, all his life he was taught that Christians and religion were stupid and had
no real arguments or value even in part. And now here Kevin was sharing with him reasons
the Bible is true, with no way to refute. And he could tell Kevin wasn't doing this
out of any ill intent too. He saw Kevins concern for his soul, something he really never encountered
until now at 18 years old. They went their separate ways after discussing these things
for a couple of hours. Jimmy went on the accept Christ, he realized the power was hidden from
his eyes by lies disguised to trick him into believing the evolutionary guise. Kevin went
on to save many of his coworkers at work, showed them reasons to believe in Christs
death and resurrection none of us deserved. Just by Kevin's father teaching the proofs
we have available, changed all of these lives. Apologetics, in this society, is of the utmost
importance for evangelism to reach the blind.

HOW TO GIVE AN ELEVATOR PITCH - Duration: 3:22.
- Hey friends, Dave Burkus here.
Welcome back to The DailyBurk.
Today we are talking about how to give
an elevator pitch, how to give the perfect introduction,
the perfect answer to that question, so, what do you do.
And if you're a long-time watcher of the show,
if you're familiar with where I work,
you know that I hate that question.
And the reason that I hate that question
is how limiting it is, how stifling it is
to conversation and explorings of the multiple
facets of potential connection with this other person.
All of that said, you are gonna get asked that question.
And so you need to have an answer that opens up
that conversation, that provides a lot of
different avenues, a lot of different back and forth.
See, I actually have a problem with the whole
concept of elevator pitch, because the elevator
scenario, that whole, like, you have to wow them
in a one line sentence before the elevator
hits the ground and they're gone forever,
that's not true to what actually happens in real life.
Most of the time, when you're asked a question like that,
when you have to introduce yourself,
your goal is to keep a conversation going back and forth.
It's not to wow them and get them to be like
shut up and take my money.
It's not like that.
The goal is to keep that conversation moving forward.
So my good friend Clay Hebert,
we'll put a link to his work down below
so you can learn more and see more.
My good friend Clay Hebert has what he calls
the perfect introduction.
And I agree with him.
When you dive into the research about being
interested in somebody else,
about keeping the conversation forward,
all of what we know about human dynamics
and conversations, Clay's framework is phenomenal for.
And the framework, really simply, and I might be
butchering it from Clay's perfect adaptation,
but this is what I found works.
Very simply, fill in the framework like a Mad Lib.
I help blank do blank.
The first blank is a noun, the second blank
is a verb.
I help noun do verb.
Now in Clay's case, Clay would say I help
entrepreneurs fund their dreams.
Then you go oh, that's interesting, what do you mean.
And then he can tell them a story about a client
that he's helped crowdfund a product idea,
or sell vaporware, any way in which we use
crowdfunding, crowdsourcing, Clay is an expert in it.
And now that conversation will move forward.
For me personally, my answer,
that Clay has actually helped me with, is,
I help people do their best work ever.
You know, people is kinda broad,
but as soon as we get into best work ever,
you realize that people actually means people
in a professional setting, anyone who is working,
entrepreneur, whatever, right,
but somebody who's in working.
So my work is probably not good for kindergartners,
but it is great for anyone who works
in a professional setting.
So I help people do their best work ever.
Oh, that's interesting, what do you mean by
best work ever?
Well, my belief is that you can't do
your best work ever unless you're in line
with what we know about the psychology
of human performances, with the social science
of human behavior and human relationships.
And so that's what my work focuses on,
whether it's writing, speaking,
or this episode, The DailyBurk.
Speaking of The DailyBurk, leave a comment below
and let me know what your answer to this question is.
I wanna see your perfect introduction,
and I wanna see people helping each other
craft that one.
I help noun do verb.
What is your answer to that question?
And while you're leaving that comment,
make sure you are followed and subscribed to said
DailyBurk because we're posting episodes just like this one,
episodes designed to, just like my introduction,
help you do your best work ever.
We're posting them every single weekday,
and I wanna make sure that you don't miss them.
Thank you so much for watching The DailyBurk.

KIM & HER BACHELOR Ep.1 - A Vlog of Albino Monkey Kim and Mike - Duration: 8:50.
Hello, What's up guys! It's me, Mike and..
Her name is Kim. Hehe..
Kim is an albino monkey whom I got from my friend as birthday present.
I adopted her mm.. about 2 years ago.
Kim was about 3 or 4 months old.
She was so tiny back then.
Kim is a kind of monkey who used to live in beach..
Mmm..
a long tailed monkey(macaque).
It is usually found around coastal forests.
We usually see its kind in Topeng Monyet attraction.
But Kim is unique.
Kim is albino type.
The reason why I decided to keep her
is because
first, because my friend gave it when I had birthday.
Second,
I feel pity if I release Kim to the wild.
She could be..
mm..
a target for other monkey groups
because she is different
since Kim is albino and it is a genetic condition counted as a defect.
So, I am afraid Kim will be
haunted by
other monkey groups,
or haunted by other animal
because she is too noticeable. Her white hair.
So, I think it is better
to keep Kim,
look after her
and I'll give her love.
So, she is here with me.
mm..
Many people said monkey is like a human.
I think it's true.
Kim thinks that I am her parent.
Maybe because Kim is always with me since so young.
She treats me like I am her own parent.
If she wants to eat,
or she needs anything,
she will find me.
She doesn't want to have other people to nurture her,
except people close to her
like me, my brother, and house assistant.
Kim..
Are you hungry?
Ha?
Do you want avocado?
Wanna?
Let me get avocado, ok?
No?

Reverse Engineering a 1947 Tractor - Duration: 1:57.
[music]
Growing up, my dad was very mechanically oriented
and we were always fixing something.
So there seems to be something in the genetic background
that keeps pulling us into mechanical repair
and engine systems and so forth.
I'm Stephen Belkoff. I'm an associate professor of mechanical engineering
and this is a 1947 Ford 8N Tractor
It comes from an era where the systems are,
for the most part, all mechanical.
So it's a perfect platform for the students
as you can see the systems operating
I had them take it apart on their own
and then try to figure out how it was supposed to work
I don't think anybody in this class has ever
worked on a farm tractor before
so it's all new to them.
[workshop sounds]
...so if you're looking at it this way or this way, you can still read it
So anyway, how does this work?
You tell me
This is a class in reverse engineering and diagnostics
And it started out through an acknowledgment that
students coming into the institution didn't have the same background
as previous generations of students did.
[music]
Rolling the tractor in here, and
having the tactile interaction
is a much more meaningful experience
Students who are intimidated by mechanical systems
can be free to sort of explore, be curious,
and delve into it as deep as they want to.
It's nice to be able to apply
the theory we learn in our classes
to something that is physical and
we can touch and see and handle
It gives us a chance to learn on our own
and actually, I think, has made it easier to
learn what we need to do, and
kind of develop the habits that will be
important in our futures.
And then also like, it's just fun to play with and
fun to y'know, figure out... like, you can really
see for yourself and figure things out
what is happening with each subsystem
and I think that's really cool

AVOIDING A DISASTER! | 3 Marker Challenge | November Copic Colors - Duration: 14:47.
so today's a very special three marker challenge because these three colors were
actually chosen by Copic for me to use - I actually had a pretty hard time using
these three colors together and let me tell you exactly why that was
♪
so these are Copic's official colors for the month of November 2018
there is R37 or 'Carmine,' E37 'sepia,' and G99 'olive'
now when I was doing my testing
to see how I wanted or how I wanted to draw and what these colors kind of look
like on paper and I discovered something real quick and that was all three colors
have very similar tone so what that really means is if I were to desaturate
or remove all of the saturation from this video
these three colors would look almost exactly the same now this was kind of
scary as an artist especially for me who kind of avoids dark saturated colors
because I'm just not very comfortable with markers yet and I like to stick to
my pastels and slowly build up the color and you know have more control in that
way this was not going to be like that so
this is going to be a very much a learning experience and diving right
into my biggest fear when it comes to markers - the other thing that made these
colors very different from what I would usually gravitate towards is when I put
these over a line art when I did my smudge test I've quite quickly learned
that the contrast between these colors and whatever I chose to use as line art
whose going to be nil - okay, these colors were almost as dark as the black liner
so basically what I usually do which is use line art to create all of the
details and like the face on the body what's not really going to work in this
situation but I'll get to that later when I start adding in color right now I
want to address what I'm drawing and why I'm drawing what I'm drawing so I did a
lot of thumbnails and research and tried to figure out what exactly wanted
to draw using these three colors before I dove in and like created this final
illustration and no matter how I looked at these colors they just made me think
of the holidays like the red and the green and
that beautiful brown like all together it just uh like it just made me think of
Christmas and like Thanksgiving and I don't know just that whole season and
like wreaths especially so I drew a lot of wreaths and I noticed these colors
worked really well for that and another thing I painted was like a wreath on
like a wooden texture and that looked really cool and it worked and used all
of the colors and it was really happy with that but I knew I wanted to draw a
character because that's kind of what I'm known for
so I dove in and created a character using these colors and my biggest sort
of inspiration was definitely a holiday wreath and I decided to give
this character space buns with holiday wreaths that wrapped around the buns and
I'm very happy with the idea I think it's very funny and cute - I've probably seen
this somewhere and that's where [the idea] came from and also because of the green
wreath then there's the red bow that like hangs off of the wreath and that
was really fun to draw like the flowy ribbon that was coming off of the bow
and then the hair that was looping up on top of that and then to further use the
colors I decided to give her some dark brown skin and then her dress was like a
bright red it's kind of a play on like one of those like Santa dresses that
you've seen around but that's like a velvety red color and then they have
like that fluffy... white.... fur.... stuff? on it it's kind of a play on that but I
decided to make it very slim fitting around like the waist and the body and
then really loose on the sleeves so they're almost like bell sleeves and
then on the end of basically any edge there's bright white because there's
going to be that.... fur. - now this was kind of a choice because it made me think of the
holidays but also this was a conscious choice because of the colors I had and I
knew I wanted to keep as many of these colors separate from one another as
possible so that they'd have more contrast between them because if I put
the colors right next to each other or try to do it too many details with like
multiple colors next to each other the colors just blended together and if you
were to like squint even without squinting and you looked at the drawing
the colors all just look like one color and
that really was not what I was going for so by using this white fur to separate
like the skin tone from the color of the dress I was able to get some contrast
there and I'm very happy with that decision I wish there was something more
I could have done with the face because when it comes to the head that's where
all the colors start you know I start putting a lot of colors next to each
other because there's the hair and like you can't really put a white line
between the hair and the face that's gonna look kinda weird and then
there's the wreaths that are in her hair I did decide to do something special
about that to separate it from the air but the face is definitely where I had
like the least amount of contrast and I had to make a decision which I make much
later on after - when I start getting to coloring the skin tone and the decision
was am I going to put line art on this? - I decided for coloring the body 'no' I
wanted to go for a paper cutout kind of.... thing
I decided to avoid lineart as much
as possible because the liner like I showed you earlier was really not
setting apart from the colors with red it worked the best but with the brown
and the green like you could just really not - you really couldn't see the lines at
all so it was pretty much pointless so the way I decided to do this was just
erase a little bit of pencil at a time and then try to fill in solid blocks of
color using the Copic markers um trying to get a solid tone is a little bit
difficult for me again I'm a beginner with these copic markers [note: this video was filmed in Oct'18] I'm trying to learn so if you have any
tips definitely let me hear them, I am all ears but I did my best to try and
get a solid tone especially for the dress but once I had that solid tone I
went and tried to add maybe some shading where I thought that there would be
shading and I feel like it pulled away a little bit from that like flat paper
'cutout-y' look that I was going for but yeah it's a learning experience
the only other part of this illustration that is like majorly red are the bows
up in her hair that are connected to the wreaths and this is where I started
putting into play my idea to try and keep colors separate so what I did was
see I am coloring each section of the ribbon but leaving a little bit of white
space between them - I carried this idea over to adding the wreaths in her hair
by trying to keep the wreaths that even section of whiteness away
from the bow I did that on both sides - now each element of this illustration
had like a specific color that I had appointed to it like the wreath, the bow,
the dress, and the skin - but there was a hair color that I needed to choose and I
didn't have an extra color so what I decided to do was use two colors, mix
them together - I used two very contrasting colors which are red and
green and by layering those two up I get a very very dark-near-black, a pretty
brown color and I really liked that for the hair color I think it worked really
well and you'll see like I mentioned earlier this is where colors are
starting to get very close together and starting to almost touch and then like
some sections are going to end up touching like the skin and the hair
because like I said "no white line between that" that would just look really weird
um so I had to kind of come up with a way to keep these colors like in their
own little sections and like keep them separate so that they don't all blend
into just one blob and that was by using a Posca pen and what I did was I just
outlined basically all of the shapes and gave them like this nice even white line
I tried to do this as much as possible without the Posca pen - like just using
the color of the paper but there are some parts where I either messed up or
forgot so I needed to use the pen and just create that like even white line
around the wreaths and the bows - after that I started coloring in the hands and that
part was really fun to do those sort of like paper cutout-y section cuz I was
like able to draw in each finger with like a stroke and I just I really
enjoyed that part but you may have noticed like wait a minute it kind of
looks like she's avoiding coloring the face and... confession, yes I was - like I
mentioned earlier I'm very scared of using line art and these markers
together because of like they're similar tones and so I was just very worried
about doing the face but that's where the most details are in
this particular illustration and I thought that was gonna be the easiest
thing to really mess up so I put it off until last cuz I was just so nervous - I did
end up choosing to put line art on the faces because I was very nervous about
like losing that detail that I had in the face already by adding color on
top of it and then I gave that ample time to dry and added more Posca
pen to the bows and added more separation of color there and then once
I was fully sure that that liner was dry and it wasn't going to smudge I started
adding in the color - I'm pretty sure I was holding my breath like the entirety
of coloring in the face cuz I really didn't want to get any weird streaks or
strokes like in weird places on the face because I like the face to be very
smooth when it comes to coloring so I was very careful and tried to avoid
overlapping any parts that were already dry and tried to like fill in the face
as quickly as possible so that was all like still wet and juicy
while I was adding in the marker so that none of it was dry - I'm just like
repeating myself because like that's how nervous I was, I was just like "ahh no strokes
no streaks ahhhhhh" - I think I did a pretty good job overall and then I was able
actually to add shading right under her chin by going over like a couple times
with that same marker and that's just my favorite thing about markers is the fact
that you can do that it's just just looks so cool I love it and then I
learned from experience by testing these markers together that I really did not
like using any of the other markers as like a blush color on this face I think
it just didn't look very good - the colors were just like "meh" there wasn't good enough
blush color so I decided to use this bubblegum Crayola colored pencil that I
had on my desk and just start uh scribbled and blended on like the cheeks
in the nose to add a little bit more like blush to the face - I also used the
e37 color 'sepia' to add some shading to the dress so like underneath the fur on
the top of her dress I wanted there to be a little bit extra dimension there to
make it look a little bit more poofy and like it's sticking out more so that's
what I did there so after that I added in some extra details here and there
like with the Posca pen and a cool thing I learned is: I added like some white
fern shapes to the wreath with the Posca pen
and then went over that with the Copic marker and it looks really cool because
there's like two separate green tones there even though I only had one Copic
marker "whhhaaaaht? yeah!" that was really cool I wish I had realized that earlier I could
have maybe incorporated it in other sections of the drawing but after that
and coloring in the lips, it was time to add in the background color and if you
look at the illustration there's one color I used the least - what's that one?
oh! it's a green! so I decided to make the background color green and I've never
colored in this large of a section with an alcohol-based marker before so that
was a treat *laughs* [note this was before i started my new sketchbook] - I'm trying to get it to not streak was near impossible I've tried a
couple different things I looked up like "try to use swishy motions"I tried that
try to do really quick motions - I tried that - go over the section a couple times
I tried that - all of them sort of worked to an extent but they weren't able to
get rid of like every streak so I - well I had this idea to do it anyway but
I added some like snowflakes to the background so like little X's and dots
here and there to kind of distract from the streaks and to make it look a little
bit more winter-themed with snow so I'm kind of happy with that I really like
the way the drawing looks because it's just like so much color everywhere it's
just like in-your-face and whenever I draw something I tend to just draw a
random character in the middle of the page so I'm very proud of myself for
deciding to attempt a solid background color even if it's not like any detailed
background of any kind like the fact that I'm taking steps to move in the
right direction to start adding backgrounds to my drawing so I'm
happy about that and I hope to get a little bit better with strokes and lines
in my markers so this is only my second ever illustration with a Copic marker so
I'm pretty proud of it I've used alcohol-based markers but this is my
second Copic one and yeah I'm happy with it I had a lot of fun like designing the
character so let me show you some of like the sketches I did when I was
planning out the character so these are some of the ones I did before I drew
this picture I'm really happy with some of these and
you can see where I was testing out the colors and you'll actually notice in my
illo sketchbook the paper is different than what I used to draw the final
illustration - in the illo sketchbook, the colors are actually a lot lighter so I
was a little bit more comfortable using them but when it came to this marker
paper that I used to the full illustration, the colors actually ended up being a little
bit darker so it was even scarier because I was like whoa wait a minute
this isn't what I was planning on? so um this whole thing was uh
definitely like kind of delving into my biggest marker fears and I think it
turned out all right I'm actually really really happy with it
and I think it's given me quite a bit of confidence to use markers
more and use some of those more saturated colors and like that I'm
scared of so yeah I can leave the pastels behind for a little bit and yeah
it turns out okay it's not that scary I hope to get better in the future but
so this is a cool benchmark that I can compare myself to in the future and I
think that'll be really cool anyway - I want to thank Copic for
choosing me to be on of their November artists and to challenge me to use these three
colors in an illustration it was very much a learning experience and I had a
lot of fun so thank you for that and yeah you guys can actually can see this
illustration over on their Instagram page and I'll also be posting it on my
Instagram page so I'll have links to all that in the description - thank you guys
for watching I hope you enjoyed watching my process of using these three very
similarly toned markers in one complete illustration yeah I had a lot of fun
thank you guys for watching I'll see you guys all next week I hope you have a
delicious evening full of ♪ WAFFLES ♪

How Taco Bell Built an Empire on Bizarre Foods - Cheddar Examines - Duration: 4:41.
This is not a taco.
But it's what it was to me growing up in suburban Massachusetts.
The hardshell taco was popularized in the United States in 1951 by Glenn Bell.
Yes, that bell. Since then,
Taco Bell has continued to introduce bizarre takes on standard menu items.
What is this is?
A waffle taco?
What's next a pancake and chilada?
It's a slippery slope I tell you.
Sure, it's a little gimmicky.
But it might just be marketing genius.
Taco Bell has created a way to make the gimmick real and profitable.
In 1948, 25 year old Glenn Bell started a food stand in San Bernardino California.
Bell's Hamburgers and Hotdogs,
but at the same time the McDonald's brothers
new fast food joint was beginning to claim the burger market.
Bell needed to be different.
Across the street from his stand was a small,
but busy Mexican restaurant, Mitla Cafe.
He fell in love with the food especially the light
crispy tortillas stuffed with ground beef and lettuce.
So much so that he tried to replicate it with a makeshift fryer.
His final creation was a much crunchier version of the Mitla Café item.
Less messy, easy to eat on the go.
Accurate or not, Bell called it a taco which he
originally sold for 19 cents. It was a smash hit.
So in 1954, he opened a new stand,
Taco Tia and over the next decade,
he continued to open more.
He finally opened his first Taco Bell restaurant in 1962 in Downey California.
The hardshell taco or tego as first time customers called it was Bell's first innovation.
Since then the company has released a steady flow of somewhat bizarre menu items.
This is the enchirito.
While a burrito is typically a flower tortilla filled with beans and
enchilada is traditionally a corn tortilla filled with meat and smothered in chili sauce.
The enchirito was released in 1967 and was a popular menu item for almost 30 years.
Original and unique items like
the chili burger proved to be a winning formula for Glen Bell.
Taco Bell was bought by Pepsico in 1978.
Even with new owners, the strategy remained the same.
Produce a menu of traditional items while experimenting with new hybrid foods.
The all new naked chicken chips made of
crispy fried chicken dipped in a seductive nacho cheese sauce.
This innovation based strategy is called Buzz.
Each one of these items is designed to create noise.
Blackjack taco only 89 cents exclusively at Taco Bell.
Other fast food companies chase Buzz with innovative menu items too.
In case you haven't heard Wendy's has fresh stuff tito's.
All of which you will no longer find on a menu anywhere.
A new champions of taste,
Mighty Wings from McDonald's.
And sure, Taco Bell had some failures.
In producing new seafood salad from Taco Bell.
But those aside, a lot of those buzz worthy test runs became menu staples.
As a Taco Bell taste Gourriel.
So it's good to go. Genius.
So, how did Taco Bell succeed in transforming buzz into billions.
In March 2018, Cheddar live had Taco Bell CMO,
Marisa Thalberg on the show.
That to me speaks to doing things that for sure generate us.
But it's because the idea itself is exciting.
It touches people, makes people want to a taco makes the people want to share.
It sounds like PR, but I really think she means it.
Taco Bell dedicates serious resources into new food items.
Their insights lab test 4500 new product ideas every year.
350 to 500 of those ideas end up in consumer tests.
Eight to 10 of which end up on the national menu,
and the returns are usually immediate.
Taco Bell debuted the Doritos Locos Tacos in March of 2012.
In just 10 weeks,
100 million were sold.
While Taco Bell never came close to being America's favorite fast food chain,
it did have complete control over the Mexican fast food market for a time.
But now, other competitors like Chipotle,
Moes, and Qdoba have entered the ring.
Taco Bell still holds a commanding lead.
It overtook Burger King to become the fourth largest U.S.
chain with 9.8 billion in sales in 2017.
Chipotle had a revenue of 4.5 billion.
But that lead is shrinking.
So, back to the lab for Taco Bell.

Hey Steve: A Broke Boyfriend and an Unrecognized Couple - Duration: 3:44.
- So, I've been dating someone for about three months now.
He just got out of the military for doing four years.
- [Steve] Okay.
- I kind of feel like I'm taking
care of him because his situation with
the money part isn't going pretty well.
He's not motivated to actually work
for anyone. I don't know if I'm wrong for
not wanting to be with him or
what to do, really. (audience laughs)
- Well, I can just tell don't nobody else
in here wanna be with him, either.
(audience laughs and applauds)
- He's a really good guy, though. He's a really good guy.
- I didn't see not one woman in
here go, "Oh, well where he at?"
(audience laughs)
You got a man. He's not working.
- Yes.
- He's not motivated to work. Do you have
to pay if you go out on a date?
- Every time I go out on a date, I pay.
(audience groans)
Yes, but he's a really good guy,
and I...
(audience groans)
It's the personality. I don't know if I
should hold onto this relationship.
- He's a great guy, he has a nice personality.
I'd be nice to people that's taking care of me.
(audience applauds)
Hey, let me explain something to you.
That nice attitude and that wonderful personality,
that get old after a while when he ain't
bringing in no money. That get real old.
Cute men ain't worth a damn when they
ain't takin' care of business.
(audience applauds)
As a matter of fact, you might think
this is prejudiced or bigoted,
but I'm gonna say it anyway. Ladies, I strongly
suggest that you don't date a pretty man.
(audience laughs)
Try to find you a man that's at
least attractive that you can stand.
(audience laughs and applauds)
Thank you very much.
(audience cheers)
Where's Mashaleek?
- [Mishalika] Michalika!
- What?
- Mishalika, don't worry I've heard every version of it.
- Mishalika? Aw, that's pretty.
- Yeah. But hey, Steve, my boyfriend Braxton
and I have been together for about a year.
We're an interracial couple. I'm Guyanese.
He's white. Every time we go out in public together,
people assume we're not together.
So, for instance, I have a cousin that's my age,
same complexion, and the three of us are good friends.
And any time we go out people think I'm with my cousin
and not with my boyfriend. And the other day his family
came into town, we were in New York at the time
and we went to go see the Statue of Liberty.
And while we were waiting in line
people kept cutting me off, thinking I wasn't
part of their group so I'd literally have to
be like "No, we're together." What should we do
so people know we're together or
should we just not care about it?
- I wouldn't be so concerned about what people
thought about my relationship as long as
the two of you are happy together.
(audience claps)
You're not in this relationship to prove a point.
You can't worry about the world
and what the world think. Let 'em think how they
wanna think and feel how they wanna feel.
You know, a pastor told me, he said the best way
to stay married is form a two handed circle.
Two handed circle, you and your wife.
Don't let nobody in that circle.
(audience claps) Don't let the kids in
the circle. Don't let the in-laws in
the circle. Y'all hold hands like this.
I think y'all a good looking couple.

Rachel Brosnahan Had a Ring Badly Stuck on Her Finger the Night She Won an Emmy - Duration: 6:14.
-Honestly, the Emmys -- it was a sweep.
I mean, you won for writing and outstanding comedy.
And then you won Lead Actress in a Comedy,
And I was so psyched for you
'cause you just knocked it out of the park.
-Thanks. -It was fantastic.
What do you remember about that night?
-Thanks. It was an amazing night.
It was crazy.
The whole thing is kind of a blur.
But, honestly, I can't -- -You have a great story.
-I can't look at that picture... -I love it so much.
-...without thinking about the fact
that five minutes before I was walking out the door
to hit the red carpet,
I was picking jewelry very last-second.
I was trying on some beautiful, beautiful rings
that had been loaned to me.
And I put one on, testing out the finger,
and said, "I don't think it looks great on that finger.
I'm gonna..."
And just, like, could not get it off.
And you know that panic? I just cracked my knuckle.
The panic already has re-set in. The panic just set in.
Trying to get the ring off, we had some ice brought up.
We're, like, holding my hand above my head for 10 minutes.
And then we're debating, really.
It's starting to turn different colors.
We're debating whether or not we're going to need to go
to the hospital before we go to the red carpet.
-I mean, I would have freaked out right there.
I would have went nuts... -That's what I'm saying.
-...and go, "I don't know if I can go to the Emmys, dude.
I don't know what to do right now."
-That's exactly how I felt. I went.
-I want to zoom in on your finger.
[ Laughter ] -Okay.
It's the size of a sausage roll. [ Laughter ]
I -- It still makes me itch. I'm sweating, I'm itching,
just thinking about it. -This is honestly --
-And this has makeup on it, because it was fully purple.
-Oh, my goodness. Kook at what a good...
-But it is a beautiful ring. -Look how happy you are.
And you won the Emmy. -That's why they gave it to me.
-That's why they gave it to you, yeah.
But what did you do? After you won, did you go,
"I've got to go to the hospital or something"?
-Well, no, 'cause everyone kept looking at me like, "It's fine.
No, like, that's normal. It's fine.
I know someone who got a ring..."
Everyone was trying to make me feel better,
which, of course, makes you feel much, much worse.
-Yeah.
-But we were getting whisked around.
We went to some parties. We went to another party.
I got back to the hotel -- -Oh, my goodness!
-I know, I was panicking the whole time.
Got back to the hotel later, tried the whole routine again.
-So you soaked it in ice. -Soaked it in ice,
put some olive oil on it, held it above my head.
Nothing worked. It wouldn't come off.
And then somebody told me about this trick.
Have you guys heard of the dental-floss trick?
-Yes. -Okay, the ladies in the room
know about it. -I don't know this.
-You thread a piece of dental floss...
I'm literally avoiding wearing rings on that finger now.
I'm still so horrified. -Traumatized.
-You thread a piece of dental floss under the ring.
And you tourniquet your finger with the rest of it.
-Oh, no.
-And you start slowly peeling the dental floss off,
And then it slides over your tourniqueted finger.
It did come off. -Wow!
-Is the end of the story. -That is a good little trick,
right there. -It's a great trick.
That ring, I thought I was gonna get to keep it, honestly.
I was a little bit excited. -Oh my gosh!
They didn't let you keep it after all of that?
-They did not let me keep it. -[ Laughs ]
I'm gonna keep this, though... -A laugh, just for you.
-Just 'cause -- Yeah. [ Laughter ]
Well, I love -- You're fantastic on the show,
"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," if you haven't seen it.
You're great on it, but you've been injured a few times.
-I have been injured a few times.
It's all self-Inflicted, unfortunately.
-What happened? -Well, during our first season,
there's a set that Midge does where she's really tanking.
She's not having a good night.
And part of what's written in the script is
that she's trying to pull the microphone off the stand.
A mic that looks a lot like this, actually.
Trying to pull it off the stand, to really get going,
ramp up the crowd, and she can't get it off.
And so, in the scene, I'm pulling, pulling.
You know, trying to really sell it.
Like, really pulling, and I flipped the switch
and just went -- pooh! --
like, right into the center of my head,
with a 1950s microphone.
-It's like hitting a brick in your own head.
-Yeah, I gave myself a really good unicorn horn.
They had to start -- -You did?
-Well, again, everybody is going, "You're fine.
It doesn't look that bad. You're fine."
But the best part is,
is that because I was bombing in the scene,
the audience did not react at all.
-Oh, they were told not to react.
-I whacked myself straight in the middle of the face,
and crickets. [ Laughter ]
-They were told, "Don't react to whatever she does."
-I think they just thought I was a really, really good actor.
[ Laughter ] But then, unfortunately,
I forgot all my lines and couldn't continue the scene.
-Well, here's the good news.
The trick is, you just wrap your head in dental floss.
-Yes, exactly.
It brings the swelling right down.
-Yeah, just trust me. It's a good trick, yeah.
Then, season two, you get injured again.
But this is what? But you had an accident.
-I do my own stunts. -[ Laughs ]
-So, we shot this scene during season two.
It's a beautiful scene. It's a oner.
It's just one single camera movement.
-What's a oner? -Just one camera movement
with no cuts, and it's highly choreographed.
It's a scene that lasts a couple minutes long,
without cutting into it. It involves some rolling chairs
and a switchboard room, 10 other girls.
And midge is supposed to be very graceful, very smart,
very confident, great at her job.
So she's able to whiz around on this rolling chair
and help all the other girls with their job.
But during one take,
I went to kick back off this cabinet,
and I was supposed to fly the length of the room,
and just went straight over backwards.
And honestly, like, someone played it back for me later,
and it doesn't look that traumatic.
But I had a bruise the size of my entire calf,
that turned every single color of the rainbow.
-It does look traumatic, and I know
because we have a copy of the video
that they were nice enough to send to us,
everyone over at "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."
Don't look if you don't want to. -Hurray.
-But everyone else, please watch.
Here's an outtake of Rachel filming.
-Oh, dear.
-B. Altman. Where may I direct your call?
I will connect you.
B. Altman. Where may I direct your call?
-Too many calls. I can't...
-Hold on. I will connect you.
[ Clatter ]
[ Laughter ]
-That's a good fall.
That's a good fall. [ Applause ]
-But it really looked so much less traumatic than it felt.
-Trust me, that's a good fall, right there.
Props to you for putting the work in.
[ Cheers and applause ] -Thank you.
Tom Cruise, I'm coming for the gigs.
