self-confidence. Hey I'm Abbi J, a life coach and a public speaker and if

when I post a video once a week. One of the hardest parts about being a teenager
is dealing with self-esteem, self-esteem issues, is like self-confidence and
the lack thereof and sometimes it's so hard to know what you can do to actually
increase your self-esteem and to work on your self-esteem
but never fear by the end in this video I am going to give you four foolproof
teenage self-esteem boosting tips that are going to help you through this
difficult time we're all of us struggle to know do I like myself like how do i
project myself and it all comes down to our self-esteem and how we can improve
it so let's dive right into these tips that I've got for you today on improving
your self-confidence and self-esteem. my first tip for you then is to Deeply,
truly, sincerely ask and look into this question which is where does my
self-esteem come from? Now if you are like me you
never in a million years thought to ask yourself this question when you were in
high school or when you were struggling with your self-esteem because it's not
something that comes obvious to a lot of us but this is why it's my first tip
this question is vital to improving your self-esteem so many of us when we are
teenagers dealing with self-esteem issues and self-confidence issues we
don't realize that our self-esteem is coming from a really unhealthy place an
example of some of those unhealthy places social media boyfriends peer
groups um the media all around you magazines
sometimes these areas of our life that can by themselves be wonderful but when
we root our self-esteem solely on those things
oh I got a thousand likes on social media I'm having a great day right when
we root it on just like my self-esteem comes from if people liked my post or if
somebody said something nice to me at school that's that's awesome for the day
that that happens for you right but what happens when that doesn't happen right
and we've all been there when we've put something up on social media and we
don't get a lot of response right well if your self-esteem tends to crash on
those days that you throw up a cute Instagram post and nobody comments about
how beautiful you look you might be falling in this category of basing your
self-esteem off of some unhealthy sources so the challenge is to take your
self-esteem from those unhealthy sources and move them over to a healthy source
and what are those healthy sources of where your self-esteem should come from
well first and foremost it should come from this idea that you are a daughter
of God and it doesn't matter what you look like who who your friends are if
you're popular if you're not if you got the lead in the school play if you made
the football team it doesn't matter because you have value regardless of
what's happening on social media with your boyfriend with your friends you
have value because you are a person of infinite Worth and that comes down to
knowing who you are as a spiritual and physical being and also like believing
in yourself and knowing your strengths and what makes you an astonishing person
so my challenge for you is to figure out where your unhealthy sources of
self-esteem are and transfer them over to healthy ones and maybe you're like
most people where yeah I've got one egg of self-esteem in the social-media
bucket and I have one with my peer group and I have one with you know my
strengths and my attributes of my family where it's like a really healthy spot so
see if you can shift more of that over to the
healthy areas of your self-esteem this is going to radically change how you see
yourself my second tip for you is to be kind to yourself in a world that's
talking about improving self-esteem and increasing self-confidence and boosting
you know how you feel about yourself we overlooked this tip all the time
and honestly it's so like infuriating to me because self-esteem starts with you
it starts with being kind to yourself showing love to yourself and if you
agree make sure you comment a love down below because a girl on a mission to
embrace herself can change the world and as you can tell I'm crazy passionate
about this because I wasn't kind to myself for so many years if anything
went wrong or if somebody maybe was upset with me or if like I said like a
boyfriend broke up with me I always thought oh there must be something wrong
with me right there I need to be better and Abby can't you step it up and why
aren't you better and you know we just go down this spiral of negativity and
there's no reason you like I said are an incredible individual of infinite worth
regardless of what happens in the outside world
and so that starts how you late develop that belief is by being kind to yourself
so forgive yourself speak kindly to yourself practice self-love take time
for you and realize it's okay to say no it's okay to put yourself first every
now and then but I am way better wife sister family member friend co-worker
when I have taken time to love myself and get centered with myself so make
sure you are constantly being kind to yourself I'm so fanatical about that tip
that I actually done a whole other video on self-esteem that focuses mostly on
the self-love and being kind to yourself and boosting yourself up so that video

video my third tip is one of my favorites when it comes to coaching
individuals on increasing their self-esteem and is to set goals now that
surprises so many of the youth that I speak to when I say you want to improve
your self-esteem set goals for yourself because I don't think we link the two
very often but the reason setting goals is so amazing to boosting your
self-esteem and boosting your self-confidence is because one it
distracts you from some of those outside forces because you take the time to
center yourself to really think about what you want out of life who you want
to become and it forces you to like take a look at who you are as a person and
who you want to be and so this in an of itself gets you really focused on the
other part to why setting goals is so important to self esteem is because it's
like adding an arrow into your quiver of why you're amazing I can't tell you how
much fun it is to look back at a list of goals and say oh my goodness I did that
like this goal was so hard and I did that or I pass this class that I thought
I was going to fail because I really put my shoulder to the wheel and man I'm
incredible and it's a great way to remind yourself how amazing you are
because all of us all of us need reminders every now and then of how
amazing we are so take a moment um pause this video and I challenge you to write
down three goals that you would like to accomplish here in the next month now
these can be small goals but any sort of goal will start you in the positive
forward direction of improving your self-esteem so take ten seconds pause
this video and come back when you've got those goals now that you've taken those
10 seconds to write down three goals that you want to accomplish this month
or I know you might have to do that after
video either way my fourth tip for you is to surround yourself with people who
support you I look back in my life and especially doing this video I was trying
to think when did my self-esteem you know grow when did it take off and what
was happening in my life for that to happen um it came down to surrounding
myself with people who support me and for my younger viewers my teenagers out
there this is really hard to do in high school and that sounds a little
counterintuitive because high school you are surrounded by people you were
surrounded by probably the most friends you'll ever have in your life right well
I would argue that while you might have a lot of friends and a lot of peer
groups that you interact with not everyone there supports you in the way
that's conducive to boosting your self-esteem and why is that it's for a
lot of reasons but to simplify it it comes down to some people are
emotionally mature enough to respect you in the way that you deserve to be or
some people just are so worried about themselves and are dealing with their
own issues in their own self-esteem that they can't give you what you need to
feel supported and loved and so don't be freaked out by that but make sure in
your life you are surrounding yourself with people who support and love you and
that make you feel loved and valued and of importance this is why when I look
back on my life it was after high school and into college and even beyond that my
self-esteem really soared because I finally was able to cut out some of
these toxic people in my life and toxic seems like such a harsh word but it's
it's real and there's not a better term for it
but people that don't have your best interests at heart so do that right now
don't be like me and wait until you're out of high school don't be like me and
feel bad for not hanging out with somebody that maybe doesn't make you
always feel like your best just take take this step of self-love and

drastically improve your self-esteem and I know that because it's worked on so
