Thank you so much for coming back to my channel if you've been here before if you have it

Welcome to the randomness. I show random things I encourage you to draw along with there

Just spend your time being creative or thinking about how you want to further your creative career if you're someone like me

today, I want to talk a little bit about my tober experience which was a mediocre one and

Talked about how you kind of learn from your mediocre experiences in case you haven't noticed

That's a theme on the channel learn from your experiences. It's pretty much a theme on my life

For me inktober was a failure to plan

Which happens a lot?

Or I plan really optimistically and I'm like, yeah

I can totally get this done in this amount of time and then anything that happens that throws it off throws everything off

One of the big things that I didn't plan for was to have a really rough

Last week of the month. So as you notice I didn't have a video done. I didn't get my

Squirtle Pokemon done any of that kind of stuff a lot of stuff that I had planned on doing by the end of October

I didn't do

Because just weird little small things started popping up and being problems. So I'll let it kind of get away from me, unfortunately

but again enjoying Tober I don't usually do it as a

Social media show everybody type thing. I do it as a

Personal growth um, and I don't really

Understand quickly. I don't even do it, right

Um when I talk about inktober I use my markers

um

Anytime I can I use these little inks and I think you're actually supposed to write with these and like do calligraphy and shit

Oh, come on

Notice um, I have had a whole set of these for freaking ever I've never opened them

this was the very first time I ever opened them and

I love them. I shoot them with paint brushes. I'm sure that's not how you're supposed to use them and

Just shaking them up I use little pets to get some color out to mix up the colors on them

But yeah, it was really fun. I've never used them before. Oh

I'll probably actually watch a video on how to use them now

but anyways

So for me that was a pointy beak tober was just kind of to experiment use some different mediums that I hadn't used before

Do some stuff I hadn't done before

Originally, I plan to put everything in this book, but I think it's a moleskin

Yeah, it's a little moleskin multimedia mixed media paper book

But I did the first one which was poison poisonous poisonous. I

Did that one in this book and I hate this paper?

This one is all Copic

Yeah, this one was done in all Copic ciao's and I'm sure I'm saying that wrong

Sorry, but if you look it's got this awful texture on it, and I really didn't care for that

um

So that kind of bumped me out

And was kind of a bad way to start because my whole original plan had been to do it in this book

Um day two I had a scheduling conflict which bring me way off

So I ended up drawing in my carry around sketchbook

with a ballpoint ink pen that I usually carry around the sketch with

And actually like the way it came out. It's got a lot of emotion to it

I don't know if you can tell what it is, but it's like six winged serpent creep creature and

I like the way it came out

That was the only one that I had to do in my travel notebook the rest of them I was able to do

In my main sketchbook or in supper paper or something

But it it kind of gave myself permission to go outside of my original plan on the second day

Which was a little dangerous

third day was roasted which if I'd have known scorch was gonna be a word I

Would have planned this one for scorched instead of roasted

But I thought it was really cute and it was the very first time I ever worked with those liquid inks

No, it turns out they're a little too harsh for the paper

They just got real wobbly and stuff. And so at that point I abandoned the notebook completely day three. That's right

Didn't make it very far

Um, thank you for I'm using watercolor paper and the liquid inks again, and this one was spell

This one is definitely one of my favorite ones. I actually looked into doing bottle rendering and

Figuring out how to get that kind of look to it. So I like the way this one came out

Plus it's a little bit self-promoting

Which I you know never a bad thing is an artist

Next up was chicken this one. I did in the comics and the

Prison wood color markers. Yes. I stopped prismacolor markers, but I don't care they're not great markers, but they do pretty good

This one is obviously if you know it based on the in dramatist rex

Jurassic park poster. I thought that thing was adorable breaking out of its shell and so that's what I did there

Next one up was drawing which was the first one that I abandoned at that point

I started moving around in whatever order I wanted and I naturally did exhausted next that was supposed to be out for the 7th

It's kind of a weird super expressive free drawing

Which I haven't done in a while because that's not really how you work when you work digital

You've got so many chances to go back in and rework it then it loses that sketch element to it pretty quick

next one up was star which I also didn't do and then precious which I did but only as a sketch in my

main sketchbook

In which I drew my dog as a Precious Moments

which I

think turned out pretty damn precious

um, next one up was

Flowing

This one the design is not great. It's so static and that what is that it's just weird blue liquid

Her eyes kennel or her mouth cut looks like she's dying her eyes are wonky

Yeah

After flowing was cruel. I didn't really do a piece for that one. I did some sketches, but none of them were great

So I'm not gonna pop them up

Next one up was whale which I did and I know I say funny

Which I did with as much white space as one human could leave on a piece of paper

I don't really know that that work now, but I liked the colors I liked

The shape and just thought it was pretty interesting

After well was Garden Guardian was hands down my favorite one. It's another one just just super expressive

it's uh, the prismacolor markers and then the liquid ink

Around it. So it got a little wobbly on the paper is a little too much for the paper

But I thought it was really cool. And I love the way this texture came out on those Brooks. Uh

After that was o'clock I did some sketches of a cuckoo clocks but never really got anything

Another one that I struggled really hard really hard with was weak. I don't like the term weak

I think even weak things have other strengths the only place I could think of for the word TR weak. That was inappropriate with T

hate weak tea

So I use this an excuse to do kind of a metallic

I don't know that you can see that rim and a really cool texture. It kind of has a watercolor look

But actually got it with the liquid inks those when do Newton liquid ink, so that was pretty cool. I'd done that before

Next up was angular. I

Did her nothing too crazy pretty straightforward

Um, I kind of overworked it so some of the ink got all over everything

Um, next one up was swollen

Second time you'll see a Shiba Inu on this set. I

When I looked at Solon I saw a bunch of pictures of dogs to eat

That had like eaten bees and I thought that was a really cute way to go. I

Tried to do this one originally and just with just the black ink and the hatching

But I went back in with color erase pencil, which I know is against the rule. I don't care

Alright, next one up is bottle bottle. I really like to

Again, if I had planned this better, I probably wouldn't have done spell and bottle the way I did them

But that's what I did. I still think he turned out pretty cool

alright, um

After that is scorched, which I didn't do breakable

which I kind of did my original or my drawing that you saw me do for Electra was a gently sketched as a

concept for

Inktober

Originally, I had her holding a heart which was really stupid. And then I had her holding a skull

It was an Electra. It was just kind of a generic female character and then I watched way too much daredevil

So I decided to do Elektra holding Matt's helmet

Um, it felt really appropriate since the whole season was about them breaking Matt. So that's what I didn't oh,

I don't know that that counts because it was digital art and it wasn't really yeah, so I'm like I'm not counting that um,

Drain, I didn't do expensive I didn't do muddy. I didn't do and chop I didn't do

And I was on a hell of a streak there. I

Did do prickly

This one's based on a little prickly pear concept

I thought it turned out pretty cute again doesn't really look like stuff I usually draw but I like the way it came out

um

next was stretch which I didn't do and thunder which I drew I

Don't know if you can even see that I drew in the color race

I was ready to ink it but I never actually ain't it. I don't know what happened

I liked it enough. I am gonna go back and ink ink it and kind of create like a Thunder

effect in the background

So hopefully that one will turn out and then I didn't do a gift double

I did sketches for but in my mind sure this gets just cuz I hate the way they turned out so much and

don't care for either I

Was super spend at this point and just wasn't creating great work

I do like the costume but everything about the pose is awkward. The hand is horrible. Um

Her eyes are pretty cool her face is okay. But yeah, just not not great work. Not really what I want

And then okay, we're slice. I actually did slice is one of the original sketches

See if I can not show you what's next to it cuz it looks like shit

but

I felt like it was an appropriate place to end

Because at the end of the process that's kind of how you felt

I felt like I was right around like a headless chicken. And so I thought that was a good place to into the month

So I went in and just colored her with the red and called it good. I

Didn't even feel like transferring her to another piece of paper

Because so much of what I did for inktober was more sketch and experiment oriented

I felt like it was completely acceptable to just leave it in a sketch book

Acknowledge that that's what it was and move on to something better next time

So that was what I did and what I kind of learned with my inktober

Look to see me doing more with the hand-drawn stuff. I'm not really sure how to film that yet, but I'm gonna figure it out

So we just see more of that coming up

I'm gonna finish up the Pokemon or the squirtle which girl that's probably what I'm gonna start drawing right now

And yeah, that was my inktober experience

Pearlescent I kind of like the way he came out too

So he's gonna hang out behind me for a while, but anyways, I'm not creating my next thing

I love to use Mac Upward Lash.

It's really one of my all-time favorite mascaras

because it's unique small wand

allows you to get really close to the root of your lashes,

separate, and fan out.

Even the shortest lashes, you can reach comfortably.

We all love that fake eyelash look,

but without the fake.

I did go to Zambia though.

Fantastic place Zambia.

Went there, visited the place and had a good time.

While I was there I had a chaperone who really made my trip.

His name was Alinani, sweet guy.

And his job was to get me accustomed to the Zambian culture.

And every day he would give me a new piece of information, some more interesting than others.

Like one day he looks at me and goes,

"Trevor, you know Zambia is a very, very conservative nation.

I said, "Oh, okay Ali.

He says, "Yea, so please stay away from profanity."

And I said I can do that, I assumed he meant swearing.

But I didn't say anything because I wasn't sure if he meant a person or swearing.

No, no, because in Zambia people have names like Profanity.

So, that's how I laughed when I met Screwdriver. It's the same way I laughed.

Yea, because you see

In South Africa we have African names you can translate.

Like Happiness, Blessing and Hope. Those kinds of names.

But then in Zambia

People give their names, like they give their children names

of everyday English words, anything.

So like, table, chair, car, house.

You see, like you just have to get used to it.

It's very hard, but you have to keep a straight face.

Which was difficult because I met a mechanic, who had sons named Brake and Clutch.

And that was not, especially when Brake was running around causing chaos.

And his dad was there like, "stop it Brake, stop it Brake, stop it, stop it Brake.

And I was like, "Hey, stop it Brake. Ha Ha."

But you have to get used to it, it's a cultural thing.

And so, you have to respect it.

And the second warning Ali gave me, was even stranger.

We are driving thru Lusaka, the capital.

And Ali looks over at me in the car and goes,

"Trevor, you know here in Zambia we are a very God loving nation."

I said, "Oh, ok Ali. That's a good thing to know."

He says, "Yes, so while you are here don't be gay."

I said, "What?"

He says, "I know it can be tempting sometimes but don't do it."

"Don't be gay."

"Don't be gay?"

I have never been warned of this in my life, don't be gay?

"Hey bru, don't be gay. Don't be gay."

"Don't be gay?"

Crazy, crazy warning to get.

But then I found out why Ali was warning me.

Turns out in Zambia being gay is illegal.

If you are found to be gay

you will be arrested and sent to prison

for more than thirty years, yea.

Which is a bit of a weird punishment.

When you think about it.

I mean I am not saying that gay guys would enjoy prison,

I am just saying if I was gay

That's not the worst thing you could do to me.

They would be like, "you are going to jail!"

I would be like, "Oh no."

Don't be gay?

I couldn't believe this, gay is a crime in Zambia.

Which got me thinking. If gay is a crime, that means the police have to monitor it.

They actually have to police gay. Yeah.

Which means in their police force, they have a gay division.

It's a crime, it's a crime.

So that means they have a murder unit, a robbery unit, a white collar crimes unit.

And then they got a gay unit.

Yea, they have got a little G unit in their police force.

That's responsible for all things gay.

That must be the most fun police force to be in, in the world.

You get to go under cover, dress up really nice.

Get in touch with your flamboyant side, have a good time.

I bet the sergeant's there every morning, briefing his detectives.

"Good morning Detectives."

"Welcome everybody, today we will be launching a sting operation."

"We have just been informed of a fashion show that will be taking place."

"And as you know, the gays cannot resist the latest fashion trends."

I was not gay while I was in Zambia, so I had a good time.

Went around and saw the people.

The highlight of my trip came when on my day off

I asked Ali for suggestions.

Ali said to me, "Maybe you should travel around Lusaka, meet some of the people"

"just have a good time."

I said to Ali I want to do something special.

He said, "Oh well, in that case"

"Maybe you can go to the Mall and if you are lucky"

"maybe you can ride the escalators."

I said, "What?"

"Hey, I am not promising anything"

"but if you are early, maybe you can go once or twice."

I said, "Escalators?"

"I know, mind-blowing ha?"

I thought he was messing with me.

Until I found out people in Zambia go to the mall

just to ride the escalators.

It seems ridiculous until you understand the backstory.

When we were in Zambia there were only five public escalators.

Five, in the whole country.

The first escalator was built in August.

Not August 19??

No, no. You remember August. Past August?

They built they're first escalators, ever.

Yea, and so now it is all the rage. People go to the Mall just to ride escalators.

But now, I don't want you to picture some dusty village.

That's not what Zambia is, it's a beautiful place.

They are developing just as we are, they have roads.

They got airports, the have beautiful hotels.

Stunning shopping Malls.

They've got everything we got, even faster internet.

The have just never had escalators.

And now they started building them.

And because of that people go there, and they just spend a day riding escalators.

Yea, Dads will go home and fetch their children.

"Children, we are going to the Mall."

"To do what Daddy?"

"To do shopping, and to ride the escalators!"

"Yay!"

We couldn't believe this so we went to the Mall, right.

We get to the Mall. The Mall is empty.

Escalators are packed!

People are standing in lines going around, doubling back on themselves.

There's old people, young people, even couples.

There were couples. Guys that actually picked up woman by saying:

"I am going to take you to the escalator girl."

"Oh, you are so fancy hey?"

Escalators. Some people didn't even know how to ride the escalators.

Kids were easy, they just jumped on. Old people would panic.

There was one guy who got on the escalator, and it was going up.

And I guess to compensate for something in his mind, as it went up.

He started leaning.

He fell down! Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha.

He was hurt so badly. Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha.

Oh, it was fantastic to watch.

We spent like three hours doing this, watching people riding escalators.

And you know what? Our patience paid off, because in hour three the most fantastic thing happened.

A school brought a class of children to the Mall.

And their excursion was just to ride the escalators.

It was magic.

Thirty kids, about five years old. Cutest things, they were in their black and white uniforms.

And they are standing there together holding hands.

And they were so excited, they were shining.

Not from excitement, they had Vaseline.

And there is two teachers with the children, and they grab their hands on either end.

And in a long train they start marching through the Mall.

And as they do the start singing at the top of their lungs like little angels.

"Escalator"

"Escalator"

"Escalator"

"Oh, Oh, Ohhhhhhoh Escalator"

"Escalator"

It was the sweetest thing ever.

People are waving at them, smiling.

And these kids see the escalators.

And they lost, their minds.

These kids went crazy.

They're not holding hands, they start screaming and running around.

It looked like a zombie movie, or something.

They are jumping, but then you see the smiles on their faces.

It's like the end of Saraphina. You are like, "What the hell is going on here?"

These kids are screaming. They are jumping around doing cartwheels.

The teacher can't control them. She's panicking like,

"Hey! Get back! Get Back!"

"Two-by-two! Two-by-two!"

Two-by two was one of the kids, I didn't know.

She's like, "Two-by-Two! Next to me, next to me! Single file, single file!"

Other kids are still jumping, she can't control them.

There was one fat kid. He couldn't jump so he just shook himself.

"Escalator!"

"Escalator!"

It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life.

It's like I had gone in a time machine

to a time when escalators were new.

Brand new

and popular

So popular...

that people were taking pictures of the escalators

using their iPhones!

Technology eh?

Ah ah ah!

Who even thinks of these things eh?

Can you imagine?

Eh we are in the future now my man!

moving stairs ah?

What are we going to see next?

7 SHORTCUTS YOU DON'T USE *But Should* - Duration: 5:54.

today I have seven different shortcuts in Adobe Illustrator are you probably

don't use by which he totally should be using also making today's video possible

today I have seven different keyboard shortcuts and the last one in today's

list is sort of a special exception but firstly here's a shortcut for applying

different effects to demonstrate let's quickly apply a Gaussian blur to this

square

I'm actually working in CMYK so my blue is pretty bad so just to quickly tidy

that up I'm going to increase the values of the raster effects right here in this

menu to apply the same effect the next square you can press shift command e on

a Mac or shift control e on a PC you can of course apply this to multiple

different objects at one time this is a nifty shortcut that not many designers

use another neat shortcut is to press Shift + command or control open square

bracket which will send an object at a very back of all layers and then Shift +

command or ctrl + a close bracket will actually bring it to the very front the

same shortcuts without the shift moving objects in front or behind layers one

step at a time we can actually open the layers window here and see the selected

square move around in the order of the layers and by the way all of the

keyboard shortcuts are listed down in description box below

the third set of shortcuts that I'd like to use from time to time is to press

command or control to to look an object down in place and now that object is not

going to move around by mistake throughout my workflow you can then

press the alt or the option key in front of the shortcut and this would unlock

the object leading on from that shortcut you can press command or control 3 to

hide an object it doesn't disappear or become a raised is just hidden for a

time being and then to bring it back again place the alter the option key in

front of the shortcut so here you can see that I've got a pink dinosaur well

actually this - dinosaur is one on top of the other and if you want to select

the bottom dinosaur underneath the pink one you can hold down the command or the

control key and then click twice like so of course this can be achieved in the

layers window but it's nice to know this nifty shortcut and to use it from time

to time the fifth shortcut that you need to be aware of will help you in working

on multiple different artboards on a document and that is when you copy your

design elements you can press the option key + shift and then command or control

and then finally V and this will paste the object on every single artboard on

your document now I have one more shortcut that I personally used very

often before I reveal the final solution in today's video now I'm a designer that

uses the Pathfinder window a lot and that's especially because I work on Lego

designs and there's actually a shortcut to bring up the path under window and

then a shift command or ctrl f9 and it's something I use very very often so

lastly I'm going to show you something that is an asset that all illustrator

uses you need to take into consideration you may know that if you hold down the

command or the control key you in towable between the direct selection

tool and the selection tool but if you previously selected the group selection

tool here it would talk between that and the selection tool now this isn't my

final for today's video my final thought is that every tool every function

doesn't have a same shortcut but we can come into the keyboard shortcut menu

here and we can edit the shortcuts to fit our workflow so I can now add a

shortcut for the group selection tool and I can edit the existing shortcuts
