It's splashing when they take us over.
We are fleeing for a thunderstorm. Behind us, there's sunshine already
but around us there are dark clouds.
And those gusts of wind when a truck passes you are incredible.
Just incredible.
If you have a headwind and a truck takes you over quickly
you are ejected like from a catapult.

Cycling to the sea
You went to the toilet, right? - Yes.
Did it have the normal mosque standard?
Yes. Not very clean or very beautiful
but I've seen worse.
There was one normal and one squat toilet.
And three stools to sit on while washing your feet.
Here in Turkey I very rarely need to go somewhere in nature behind a bush.
There are toilets everywhere.
On petrol stations and near mosques.
Travel around Turkey and enjoy the Turkish toilets!
But only if you can squat well... - Squat and use your left hand.
That you can learn.
The front went past and we can now see that there is fresh snow on those mountains.
They aren't very high.
I just hope that where we are going, it won't rain tonight
and that we'll find a nice spot.
Since the weather is changeable today and it may rain
and because we prefer not to camp in a downpour
and in some forecasts there is even snow
we decided to find a house for the night
somewhere along the road.
And we found this little house.
There actually is a whole village here, but not all houses are open.
I checked the one over there, it's closed.
Six houses. - There are more behind that hill.
But this one is open.
It hasn't been demolished.
There is just a bit of dirt on the ground.
It probably was blown inside
cause this window is broken and the shutters are open.
It looks like the people just moved out
and took all their belongings with them and left it like that
and after that, nobody's been here.
Ligtning, it may rain soon.
This used to be the toilet.
There is a hole through which it falls into the garden.
And here was the sink.
Or so.
And the attic, where they could keep some stuff.
We cleaned up the mess a bit.
There mainly were a lot of mouse poops.
And dust.
There was a broom so we wiped this room.
It's very nice here, and the floor also looks really nice.
And now we're cooking dinner.
Onion, canned meet.
The last one, still all the way from Poland.
Some vegetables probably.
Zucchini.
And still a tomato and some sauce.
And rice at the end.
The sauce is still from Bulgaria.
Nice little house, isn't it? - Yes.
We had a warm and comfortable sleep.
Here are our bikes.
We say goodbye to the house.
It was open, we didn't have to break in.
It was just like now.
This can't even be closed.
So we leave it as it is.
And we get on the bike and continue.
We have 80 km downhill ahead of us today.
After that, we'll have to climb.
We'll see where we end up. Yesterday we rode 105 km
so it was a good day.
Maybe we can do the same today, or more.
We just can't get past the 105 km limit.
So far. Maybe we can today.
Maybe we can do it today.
Those men aren't kind, the didn't even wave at us.
Time to leave this place.
There was a big part downhill, but now it's going up again.
It's cleared up a bit now, but the whole time
the biggest part we were riding in the rain.
But well... It's cold.
I put my gloves with long fingers back on, even though they have a hole in them.
But it's still warmer.
We'll ride a few more hours.
Untill Samsun it's still 220 kilometers.
And from Samsun, which is at the Black Sea
we will follow the coast until Georgia.
So 220 more kilometers until the sea.
What a view!
Over there is a road to a village
in the valley.
Dorenda stayed behind and went out of sight.
I wonder where she is. She was going a bit slower uphill
and I kept my own pace, and then downhill without braking.
We'll see her soon.
I'll wait here, cause I have a good view here.
I see her, she's taking the turn.
Now is the fastest bit downhill.
You can see her well now.
There she is, there she is going downhill!
But another climb is waiting for her.
Wow, what a beautiful view.
Here we need some music.
Damned music.
Those are the most boring parts of a film, those with music.
Some nice Turkish music.
Our film will have little music!
I am just showing this man where we will be going
and where we've been.
So far through Poland, Slovakia, from there to Hungary
then Romania
then a bit of Serbia and to Bulgaria
then to Turkey and now we're here before Samsun.
This is how we make our sauce
to go with the pasta.
We are in a place where, except for Dorenda, there are only men.
Those men gather here in the evening to drink tea
and play a game at a table, and chat.
As far as I understood, it'll be open until a bit after 10.
The mayor of the village allowed us to use this room.
The toilet is also available.
So that's nice.
Dorenda suddenly stopped
jumped off her bike
and said she will pick some spring onions.
Not because we're hungry or don't have the money to buy them
but they're growing here along the road, so it would be a shame not to pick any.
How are the onions? Nice?
They'll be good on our sandwiches.
We slept in the middle of a village.
In front of the tea house.
And in the morning, someone invited us for breakfast at his place.
It was a very big breakfast.
Very big.
But because of that, we didn't have a chance to boil the eggs
that we bought yesterday for dinner and breakfast.
Cause yesterday we also didn't do any extensive cooking because it was late.
We didn't have time, we first had to drink tea for an hour.
And then it was night already.
That's why we only ate pasta
without salad with eggs.
So now we wanted to boil the eggs to prevent them from breaking.
And on this petrol station, there is electricity, so we can copy our film recordings to the harddrive.
And we asked if they could maybe boil those eggs for us.
Dorenda was worried that we wouldn't be able to boil them and they would break.
Yes, and that my panniers would be full of eggs.
So I asked this man here if he could boil them.
Now he's fibbing a bit, but in any case they were boiled.
We wanted to take them on the road
but this man brought us plates, a salad and bread.
So an hour after the first one, we have a second breakfast.
But it doesn't matter.
If we eat a lot now, we won't be hungry and we can cycle for a long time.
There is an enormous flag here.
It is really huge, it's impressing.
It's waving nicely in this little wind.
This may be one of the last climbs before Samsun.
It's 50 kilometers till Samsun
and I hope they will be downhill
and that there is just a small pass here and after that we can descend.
We are now at 700 meters, so it's quite possible it will be like that.
I forgot my phone so I had to go back.
And when you enter the house again, you have to sit for a short while.
You can't just enter and then leave again.
You always have to sit down, that's very important.
I have to check if I closed the door properly.
That's my paranoia.
Everything is fine.
It's Thursday morning.
We are in Samsun.
We arrived here yesterday.
And we slept in this appartment on the ground floor.
It's Mehmet's place, but he's not here himself.
He is out of town this week.
But he gave the key to his friend, who let us in yesterday.
So we have the whole appartment to ourselves.
We slept in, showered, did some laundry.
We couldn't do any big launtry, cause something's wrong with the washing machine
but we didn't need to wash much
so we could do it by hand.
And now we're going to the shop to buy something for breakfast.
And we have to withdraw money, cause we have only 2 lira left.
During the past 2 days we only bought 4 breads
cause some people invited us to eat with them.
Don't film now. - No, I'll stop flming.
We already know the A-101, cause we shopped at this retail chain a couple of times already.
The prices aren't bad.
They are fine.
Let's see what they have here to take with us
cause we have another 500 km to go till Georgia.
Here are the things on sale.
They have our favourite bread.
But it's expensive. - Yes...
We could also take this one, we didn't try it yet.
Those are thin. - 500 grams for 2 lira.
It's like lavash.
We can buy those, for a change.
We are in a Turkish kitchen
and we'll show you what we make for breakfast today.
It's not Turkish.
Even though it's in a Turkish kitchen.
These are slices of bread with milk, I'll make some more
and you eat them with sugar and cinnamon.
Is that a universal dish or typically Dutch?
I don't know. Do you make them in Poland?
Yes, but I never heard about eating them with cinnamon.
Then the cinnamon may be Dutch
but in the official recipe, there's also egg.
But I always make them without egg.
Enjoy.
They're so warm that they're steaming.
And so tasty!
Dorenda deserves a laurel wreath and praise
for such a tasty breakfast.
And my mother as well, because she taught me how to make this.
And Mehmet, because he's letting us in his home.
We came here via... how should I call it?
Is it an organisation, WarmShowers? What is it?
A club, organisation... - Internet portal
Something like CouchSurfing, but for bike travelers.
It brings together people who travel by bicycle
and that way, you can stay with someone along the route.
We were looking around too much and missed the bridge.
And you can only go to the other side of the road over this bridge.
The Black Sea!
We are at the Black Sea.
The sea always throws up nice things.
What did you find, a shell?
A shell and styrofoam.
So now we know where styrofoam comes from.
It's made by shells.
Do you miss cycling?
Yes. - You want to ride more, don't you?
And in a comfortable position.
This doesn't make sense? - I hardly move, only like this.
Maybe you are too big for this.
I think I'm doing someting wrong.
