15 Ways to Appear Smarter Than You Really Are

More often than not, how smart people THINK you are is more important than how smart you

ACTUALLY are.

This is especially true for those working in highly social fields – such as sales,

where success is based on your ability to engage and connect with others.

If you have an important meeting or interview coming up, or simply want to impress others

and get them to think that you are smarter than you really are, then the following tips

on our list will definitely help you.

Number One: Speak Properly

Refrain from saying "um" and "uh," and eliminate "like" and "y'know"

from your speech patterns.

Get from point A to point B quickly in your sentences - without using too many filler

words.

Number Two: Be Still

Practice waiting, listening, and thinking before you speak or act.

This sort of control will boost your emotional IQ and also make your brain IQ seem a little

higher to an outside eye.

Number Three: Make Eye Contact

You already know that you're supposed to do this anyway—it's good manners, right?

But it also makes you look smarter.

Just don't overdo it!

Or people will think you're creepy.

Number Four: Tack on a Couple of Initials

Using your middle initial can make others see you as smarter.

This might be because people believe middle initials to be associated with higher social

status, which makes them expect greater intellectual performance.

Number Five: Dress for Success

This one should be no surprise.

Extensive research shows that how you dress affects how people perceive you.

Dressing well makes you seem more intelligent, while showing skin makes you seem less intelligent,

as it directs people's attention to your body rather than to your brilliant mind.

Number Six: Wear Eyeglasses

This is a no brainer, and probably the easiest trick of them all.

Research shows that people wearing glasses—especially thick, full-framed ones—are perceived as

being more intelligent.

So, if you want to seem smarter, leave your contacts at home.

And if you don't need vision correction, just slap on a pair of fake spectacles!

Number Seven: Put on a Genuine Smile

People who smile genuinely are perceived as more intelligent and more attractive than

those who fake it.

It might be because real smiles exude authenticity, which people usually consider an important

factor when judging your intelligence.

Number Eight: Act Interested

People who appear engaged in conversation, make solid eye contact, and maintain an upright

posture are rated as more intelligent.

So, resist the urge to zone out when someone's rambling on and on to you.

Number Nine: Speak Expressively

It's not always what you say, but how you say it that leaves the biggest impression.

If you want to come off as more intelligent in your next meeting, speak louder, faster

and add in more vocal variation.

Number Ten: Carry Reading Material

You can carry around a copy of the Harvard Business Review, the Wall Street Journal or

a couple of books.

By doing this, you will influence how others perceive you, and make people associate you

with sources of information that they "think" are intelligent.

Number Eleven: Use a Thesaurus

Nothing shouts being smart more than having an extensive vocabulary.

So, use a thesaurus to spice up your words!

Just type any average word into an online Thesaurus, and let the internet do the thinking

for you.

Number Twelve: Believe in Yourself

Nothing projects intelligence quite like confidence.

When you believe in yourself, it shows!

Believing in yourself improves your performance on cognitive tasks.

Self-doubt, on the other hand, impairs your performance.

Number Thirteen: Stay on Top of Current Events

Read the news every day so you know what's going on in the world.

If someone tries to make small talk by referencing the current political developments or the

latest Grammy Award winners, you won't to be falling short.

Number Fourteen: Know When to Stop Talking

People who talk too much, often wind up revealing how dumb they really are.

So, pay attention to what's coming out of your mouth, and watch people's faces to

gauge their reactions.

When in doubt, stop talking!

And Instead, ask a question to give someone else a chance to speak.

Number Fifteen: Skip the Booze

According to studies, merely seeing someone holding a drink is enough to make them seem

less intelligent.

It's not that we assume less intelligent people are more likely to drink; it's that

the perceived correlation between drinking and cognitive impairment is so strong, that

we assume impairment even if there isn't any.

I travelled in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria for 15 days in just 10,000 Indian Rupees (150 Euros)

This includes all expenditures on food, travel and stay for 15 days

Websites like SKYSCANNER & KAYAK helped me to get cheap flights

They suggested me to take a flight from Delhi or Mumbai to Prague with a layover at Dubai

Many of the European budget airlines have Dubai in their network

To reach Dubai from India there are few budget airlines like ...

I got my flight tickets in 34,000 Rupees from India to Prague and back

The route was DELHI - DUBAI - PRAGUE & PRAGUE - KIEV - DUBAI - DELHI

I booked cheap hostels by using Booking.com

Many European countries are part of the Schengen zone

You just need to get One visa to visit all these countries, i.e. Schengen visa

After reaching Prague (Czech Republic) I travelled to Slovakia & Austria without taking their respective visas.

My Schengen Visa was valid in these countries also.

I paid around 4,500 for visa fees and 1,000 (approx.) as commission to the outsourced agency who process the visa

So, you've got the safer sex talk down.

But what about getting tested?

No, not that kind of test.

This kind of test.

It's much easier and no studying required.

Getting tested is the only way to know for sure if you have an STD.

Usually, all you have to do is pee in a cup,

or get a swab.

But, even if you're all about getting tested,

what about person you want to get sexy with?

Are they on top of their sexual health game?

Here's how to find out.

So I went to my new gyno today for a Pap and she asked me

if I wanted to get tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea while I was there?

And I said yes, because why not?

She's already up in my business anyway.

But also liked—what? I thought for all

these years I was already getting tested

for STDs every time I went in for my Pap.

Wait, really? Isn't that what a Pap test is for?

I know, right? Well it's not.

My doctor says that pap tests are for cervical cancer,

and apparently you have to ask to get tested for STDs.

And there are different tests for different STDs,

so you might want to get in on that.

For real. Do the tests totally suck?

No, it was no big deal.

Ok, I gotta make an appointment.

I'm due for a check-up anyway.

Ugh, but I don't have insurance anymore!

It's gonna cost a lot.

Just go to Planned Parenthood—that's where I went.

It was super easy to get an appointment,

and they made sure I could afford it.

Ok. I'lll call them tomorrow

You can have these conversations

and you'll probably feel a lot better

about your sex like once you do.

Plus if you talk to your partner about

getting tested you're both more likely to do it,

which keeps both of you healthy and stress-free.

but sometimes you end up with one.

First: The crumple zone.

But we can also talk to my doctor about you using PreP.

What's that?

It's a pill you can take—if you want—that helps

to stop you from getting HIV.

And I'm on meds too, so I'm healthy.

to pass the virus on to you

With meds and condoms the chance of you

getting it are actually incredibly small.

STDs are super common.

1 in 6 people have genital herpes, and like everyone has

oral herpes—ever had a cold sore?

Well, yeah, when I was younger.

Well then guess what? You have herpes too.

It's just a different kind.

Wait, for real?

Yeah, welcome to the herpes club!

So...do you have it like right now?

Well, you have it for life, so yeah.

But, I feel fine. I don't have any sores now,

and I haven't had an outbreak in over a year.

Could you still give it to me?

It's possible, but not very likely.

Look, if I feel an outbreak coming on

I'll tell you and we can just take a

break from sex until it goes away.

But, we can also play it even safer and that is why I

keep my treasure chest full.

Whoa, that's quite the supply.

I like to have sex and I like to be safe.

And nobody died of embarrassment. Nobody's sex life ended.

And now everyone is going to be healthier

and happier because we talked about it.

Communicating honestly is one of the

most important parts of being healthy

and responsible with your sex life.

had to go to work.

Well, I mean, every studio wanted him but they also wanted long term contracts which

he wouldn't sign.

One day I got a call from Stanley Kramer.

He said, "c'mon I want to talk to you about a project we have."

He talked to me about this particular story that Carl Foreman wrote that Fred Zinnemann

was gonna direct called "The Men" and he said, "I'd like to buy Marlon Brando for it."

And I said, "but Stanley, he won't sign any long term contract."

He said, "I don't want a long term contract.

I want him to play this part.

That's all."

So I sent it to Edith Van Cleve and I told her that it was a one picture deal, and she

sent it to Marlon in Paris.

I don't know if Marlon ever read it, but his father leaned on him pretty badly that he

had to go to work.

So he said he would do it.

I met him at the train station and I drove him to his aunt's house.

He said, "come in and meet my aunt and uncle."

And so I went in and they invited me to dinner and eventually I left and I made arrangements

with Marlon that I would pick him up the next day and drive him to the studio to meet Zinnemann

and Kramer and Foreman.

Then I told him I wanted him to come into our agency office.

And he said, "why?" and I said, "well, all the agents would like to meet you."

He said, "I don't have to meet anybody.

You're my agent."

So I had to explain this to all these other guys, and when Lew heard about this he really

got a kick out of it, because he was getting telephone calls from Darryl Zanuck and Jack

Warner - all these, you know, heads of studios that wanted to meet Marlon.

And Lew said, "well I can't arrange it, you'd have to talk to his agent."

They said, "who is that?"

And he said, "Jay Kanter."

And they said, "Who's he?"

And suddenly I was getting phone calls from all these heads of studios, and that was it.

Hi, I'm Neil O'Nova.

In this video I'm going to answer a really common question, which is:

How often often should you have a cheat meal for fat loss...or a cheat day...on a diet?

And SHOULD you have cheat meals at all?

Keep watching to get your answer.

First I want to talk about the DOWNSIDE, or the negative consequences of having cheat

meals.

First let's run through a common cheat meal scenario.

Let's say that summer's coming up, and you want to lose some weight and get in shape

so you can look good at the beach or the pool.

And so you start having all these healthy, low-calorie meals to lose weight.

But pretty quickly you start to feel a craving for those old favorite junk foods: ice cream,

pizza, chocolate.

And then, maybe it's Friday morning, and somebody brings donuts in to work.

You've been feeling deprived, and these donuts look REALLY good.

And everybody else is having them.

And someone asks if you're going to have one.

And in the moment you make a split-second decision, and you think: you know what, I'll

just make this a cheat meal.

That's part of dieting, right?

So you have a donut.

You feel a little guilty afterward, but you know it's not that bad of a mistake.

And then, later that night say you go out to a restaurant with some friends, and you

see everybody else ordering these delicious-sounding meals.

Steak and tacos and pasta.

And you're sitting there, looking at the menu, and on one hand there's the healthy 600-calorie

meal with grilled chicken that doesn't look very good...and on the other hand there's

a really tasty-looking steak burrito that just sounds great right now.

And you think: well...maybe this is just a cheat DAY.

Instead of a cheat MEAL.

So you order the burrito.

And what the heck, get a beer while you're at it.

And when you're done with the burrito, you know it's a cheat day so you might as well

make the most of it, right?

So you order dessert too.

Now at this point you're feeling pretty guilty, because you know that you pretty much just

destroyed your diet for the day.

And you might have even destroyed it for the week (depending on how much you ate that day).

And that guilt takes a toll on your motivation.

When you wake up the next morning, you're still feeling bad about yourself.

So instead of getting right back to your healthy meals, you just eat whatever you want for

breakfast.

And that ruins your motivation for the rest of the day.

So you have an unhealthy, high-calorie lunch too.

And dinner.

Before you know it, that one cheat meal has turned into a weekend-long bender...which

in some cases kills your motivation to even lose weight at all.

OK, let's pause here.

What I just described is a pretty bleak picture.

And it's not always that bad.

Not by a long shot.

But when you have cheat meals the wrong way...that's what can happen.

That HAS happened to a lot of us already.

So let's break down what went wrong.

Mistake #1 is you decided on a whim to have a cheat meal.

You decided in the moment.

And a lot of times that's how it happens, because you find yourself in a situation where

you want to eat something that you wouldn't normally eat when you're trying to lose weight.

But it's better...it's ideal...if you can schedule your cheat meal in advance.

And ideally, you will schedule your cheat meals at a strategic time.

Such as: right after a workout, so you know that more of those calories will go toward

repairing your muscles, or at least on a day when you know it's not likely to turn into

a landslide of calories.

So if you have a cheat meal on Sunday night vs. Friday night, you'll be a lot less likely

to turn that into a weekend-long bender.

Because by the time Monday morning rolls around, you're going to feel like you're back into

your weekday routine.

Mistake #2 is that it didn't stop.

Your cheat meal turned into a cheat day.

I know Tim Ferriss encourages a cheat day once a week where you just go crazy and eat

whatever you want...but personally I really do NOT like the idea of an entire cheat DAY.

Unless you are eating a very restrictive diet the other 6 days per week, a cheat days can

absolutely RUIN your attempt to lose weight and get lean.

Because think about the numbers for a second.

Let's say that you normally eat 2500 calories a day to maintain your weight.

And to lose weight, you adopt a diet of 2000 calories per day.

So that's a calorie deficit of 500 calories a day, or 3500 calories per week: which adds

up to about 1 pound of weight loss every week.

But if you have a cheat day, you can EASILY eat an extra 3500 calories in a day.

Especially if you're going out to restaurants, eating fast food, and just generally eating

whatever you want.

Which means that your cheat day can wipe out your calorie deficit, which means: no weight

loss.

Mistake #3 is that your cheat day made you feel guilty, and wiped out your motivation

to continue on with your diet.

When you do a cheat meal correctly, it should be the exact opposite: a good cheat meal satisfies

any urges for certain high-fat, high-carb foods, and allows you to get back to your

diet and get your weight loss back on track.

Remember, guys: losing weight and burning fat is a marathon, not a sprint.

Even if you do have a cheat day where you eat way too much...that's not that big of

a deal as long as you get back on track.

To get a lean body with low bodyfat, you need consistent motivation over the long run.

You cannot afford to feeling guilty because of a cheat day and let that ruin your motivation

moving forward.

OK, so those are some of the mistakes, some of the things that can go wrong with cheat

meals.

But it's not all bad.

Because cheat meals can actually have some great benefits...if you do them right.

And when you do them right, there are 2 main benefits to having a cheat meal.

There is a physical/hormonal component, and there's a mental component.

The physical benefit of cheat meals is mostly hormonal.

When you're eating at a calorie deficit for days on end, some of your weight-loss-related

hormones like leptin can start to dip.

And having a big meal, particularly a high-carb meal, can sort of "reset" those leptin levels

to keep your metabolism high and your hunger low.

The mental benefit of cheat meals is that they can help prevent you from feeling deprived.

If you're starting to feel like you never get to eat anything good, like your diet is

way too restrictive, then a strategic cheat meal can help you feel better by allowing

you to indulge in some of the foods that you don't normally get to eat.

And that can actually INCREASE your motivation...which, as we just learned, is probably the most important

thing to losing weight (in the long run).

So those are the pros and cons of cheat meals.

Now here are a couple tips to help you use cheat meals in a way that's smart and in a

way that works.

Tip #1 is: have cheat MEALS, not cheat DAYS.

I talked about this earlier; a cheat DAY is just too much.

Tip #2 is: whenever possible, try to schedule your cheat meals.

I talked about this a little bit earlier.

This allows you to think about what you're going to have during your cheat meal, which

gives you something to look forward to; something to anticipate.

And mentally that can go a long way in helping you stick to your weight-loss plan.

Good times to schedule your cheat meals are Sunday night, when it's less likely to spill

over into the next day, and after a workout, when more calories will go toward rebuilding

your muscles.

Tip #3 is: try to have your cheat meals at home and make the food yourself.

This can save you a TON of unnecessary calories.

Restaurants often use a lot of oil when they cook, and usually it's cheap vegetable oil

that is not very healthy for anybody.

So restaurant food tends to be really high in fat.

But you can usually have the exact same meal at home...it can taste just as good...and

have literally half the calories.

If you want a hamburger for your cheat meal...a burger with fries at a bar could easily contain

1500-2000 calories.

Easily.

But make one at home...with cheese and everything...and you can keep the whole thing under 700 calories.

Tip #4 is try to have your cheat meals to once or twice

a week, depending on how lean

you are.

OK guys, the last thing I want to leave you with, and this is probably the MOST important

tip I have for you:

Follow a nutrition plan that allows you to eat the foods you love.

Because the truth is that if that a smart nutrition plan can incorporate foods like

pizza, and burgers, and tacos...

And they don't HAVE to be a cheat meal!

I just gave the example of a 700-calorie burger.

You could eat that 3 times a week if you wanted.

Same goes for tacos or pizza:

I personally eat these foods all the time.

Probably at least once a week for tacos and pizza.

And you know what?

It's NOT even a cheat meal.

It's just a normal part of my diet.

And when you follow a SMART nutrition plan, that's what happens: you get to eat the foods

you love, consistently, without blowing your diet out of the water.

Another option is to soak a bag of mint tea in hot water for about 10 minutes and drink

two or three cups of this tea a day.

Hot lemon water

Drinking hot water is good for your health as it helps remove harmful toxins from the

body as well as keeps the body hydrated.

Lemons are rich in vitamins B and C, riboflavin, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, proteins and

carbohydrates that aid in digestion.

Ginger

Ginger is a well-known herb that can be used to reduce gas and bloating.

It contains several active ingredients, including spicy gingerols and shogaols which help reduce

inflammation in the intestines and relax intestinal muscles.

Place five to six thin slices of ginger in a cup and pour boiling water into the bowl.

Cover the cup and let it start for about 10 minutes.

Add a little honey and lemon juice to it and then drink up to three times a day.

Another option is to eat one teaspoon of fresh grated ginger before meals.

You can also grate the ginger root and sprinkle it on your food.

Adults can choose to take from 0.25 to 1 g of powdered ginger root daily.

Chamomile tea

This herbal tea has anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties that can help soothe

the stomach and help with heartburn as well.

Bring a cup of water to a boil.

Pour into a cup containing a bag of chamomile tea.

Eating pumpkin is a great way to avoid unwanted flatulence as well as bloating.

Adding just a cup of pumpkin to your meals can help create a smooth digestive flow and

reduce gas.

You can steam, bake or roast, or include it as an ingredient in your recipes.

Bananas

A good source of fiber, bananas can help reduce the swelling and gas associated with constipation.

Bananas also contain potassium, a mineral that helps regulate fluid levels in your body

and gives relief from bloating.

If you eat bananas regularly, you can eliminate the swelling.

You can eat as an appetizer or add to the fruit salads and baked desserts.

Fennel seeds

Fennel seeds are very effective for digestive problems such as swelling due to its carminative,

diuretic, pain-reducing and anti-microbial properties.

Fennel seeds help relieve swelling by relaxing muscle spasms in the digestive tract.

Chew some fennel seeds after eating a large meal.

2.

Add a teaspoon of fennel seeds to 1 cup of hot water.

Cover and drop for 5 to 10 minutes.

Good afternoon! You are on the channel "Origami cat".

Today we will do this Easter basket.
