My car: Volkswagen Phaeton W12 - Duration: 17:13.
MY CAR
Introduce yourself to the viewers. - I'm Korneel, 32 years.
I was born and raised in Brabant, now I live in idyllic Houten.
Idyllic Houten. They saw us.
We're going to drive with my car today. - We're driving your car. What is it?
My beloved Phaeton W12. This time I'm sitting in the front.
You're letting yourself be driven? - When possible, but I haven't had the chance yet.
No? - My family thinks it's too big to drive.
They tell me to drive because they don't want to drive the "lumbering" car.
I have to find a chauffeur. The position is open if you want.
This is a test drive. If I get really enthusiastic you can hire me for the weekend.
That's great. - We'll talk about that later. But, a Phaeton W12.
Why a Phaeton W12? Every video starts with the question "why".
That's something I'm very curious about. Why would you choose this car? You told me you drive a lot.
I used to drive a lot, between 40,000 and 100,000 km (25,000 - 62,000 miles) a year.
Do you have a different job now? - No, we're all representatives.
I'm going to customers to talk about computers. It happens like that.
I've seen different customers and many places in the Netherlands.
I don't like the Randstad. I live in the middle and south, so the miles do add up.
After owning several cars I decided a comfortable car taking you from A to B is nice.
It shouldn't be slow, though. I hate slow cars.
The W12 was on my wish list for a long time.
It had to be a W12? - It had to be a W12, because it's quick.
You just pointed out one of your previous cars. You had a Peugeot 205, which doesn't have a big engine.
I had a 205, but the 1.6 wasn't that slow.
A 205 doesn't weigh much.
I had a couple of diesel cars, an RCZ (that's quick), and a 607 (quick as well, but clumsy).
That's when you bought a Phaeton. - Yes, that's more subtle.
The Phaeton was on my wish list for a long time. I wanted it.
Mostly for the comfort and speed.
I drive to family or around town.
I like to drive 150 km (93 miles) to my family in comfort.
Because I'm a cheapskate: a Phaeton doesn't cost anything.
If you buy a good one and maintain it, this is the cheapest way to drive in comfort.
That's the fun thing about this car. Piëch wanted this car. It didn't make sense.
One of the reasons was the A-Class, an affordable Mercedes.
Because Volkswagen was the one to make affordable cars, they went fishing in the same pond.
There had to be a Phaeton, partly based on Bentley technology.
It shouldn't be sporty, because that's Audi in the Volkswagen Group.
That was good for the competition with BMW.
This one had to be the pinnacle of comfort. There were bizarre criteria.
One of the things Piëch demanded you should be able to drive 300 kph (186 mph) at 50˚C (122˚F)
without hurting the car.
It's bizarre, but this car has this much overengineering.
You notice this with a number of things. Driving on the highway doesn't help my lead foot.
120 or 200 kph (75 or 124 mph) doesn't make much of a difference in sound and surroundings.
You're driving fast. Not 200 kph (124 mph) in the Netherlands, dear policeman watching this.
I'd never do that. - No, never.
If you're doing it, you won't hear the windshield wipers.
Every Audi I owned had that annoying squealing sound.
Not here. Small things like that show someone put thought into the car.
Still, it's under-appreciated. That's good for people like you, because the cars cost nothing.
If you have 150,000 euros to spend on a car...
You're not shopping at Volkswagen then. - You could buy a Bentley, a Rolls, or a VW.
I think the Volkswagen sellers had to get used to someone spending 150,000 euros.
"Are you buying 5 Golf GTIs?" - Like that.
If I had that kind of money, I wouldn't... I don't care much about cars.
I like driving in comfort and quickly so.
You are an enthusiast, though. The cars you listed include special ones.
A car can be pretty (not boring) and it has to be quick, comfortable, and fun.
Especially if I drive it a lot. - You don't get attached, though.
Flat is flat. If it's gone, it's gone. It's that easy. - If something cooler comes along tomorrow...
Make a good offer and it's yours.
Who knows.
You're doing a nice speed. - It is quick. I'm doing a little over the speed limit.
It is no effort. It can go in Sport Mode. Is that down? - One down.
This is for science. We have to try it.
We're professionals. Here's a straight. As if I know where I'm going.
The only bad thing about the car... I won't say the speed, but I do see it.
I can imagine you get mail sometimes and you wonder how you did that much over.
From Utrecht, recently. - You just don't notice.
It feels like doing 40 kph (25 mph) when you're doing 90 kph (56 mph).
When you accelerate... I drove an RCZ with 197 hp for some time.
When accelerating you hear it inside and out. That's nice.
Half of it is cheated with Peugeot's soundbox, but it still sounded good.
It didn't matter. An experience was created. - This one has a jet engine.
It hums a bit louder when accelerating, but mainly the speedometer tells you're going fast.
You have to keep an eye on it, else you won't know. - Yes, correct.
Coming back to the small things of the Phaeton: the satnav doesn't show your ETA.
You only see how many miles are left.
It no longer matters at what speed, we're simply going there and we'll see when we arrive.
It has something. - You know a car like this will take you there fast.
Your ETA doesn't matter. You just have to leave on time. It rained here, but I didn't see it come down.
This is a lovely car, but you'll sell it if something else comes along.
Do you know what its successor will be? - No idea. I have this now.
You're very happy with it, so you're not looking. Or are you always looking?
You always have to look. - What are you looking at?
Trick question.
There are a lot of pretty cars.
I was driving behind a new 3008, which is pretty to look at.
I wouldn't want to buy it, but it's a very pretty car. - You do have a Peugeot heart.
Absolutely. - It's firmly rooted in your DNA.
This is the first non-Peugeot I'm driving voluntarily. - Really? OK.
Voluntarily. Have you been forced to drive something other than a Peugeot?
I drove a Volkswagen Golf and a number of Polos, but I quickly ended that.
That sounds rather rigorous.
You're 19, just got your driver's license, and your employer gives you a car. Good luck.
You think you're the best driver in the world.
Everyone who's 19 and just got his driver's license is the best driver in the world. Fact.
Or was that disappointing? - That was 3-totaled-cars disappointing.
3 totaled cars? Look. - I did get a new one every time, though.
After the third one they told me to drive my own car. - OK. That one was also wrecked after a month?
No, that's... - It's different if it's yours.
It's the same with this car...
I like reading about new cars on Autoblog. That's how I learn about new cars I'd like to own.
Often you see someone crashing his Ferrari into a street light.
That sucks. That's not funny.
Over half of the commenters says it wouldn't have happened with them, because they're "good drivers".
I think I'm a good chauffeur. I think I drove 600,000 km (373,000 miles) now.
I had this car 4 weeks and nearly crashed it.
You're on winter tires and it has AWD, so you think you'll make that corner.
You accelerate. How much is 400 hp anyway?
It was enough to drift it over 4 wheels and bust a rim on the curb.
You're drifting 2,500 kg (5,512 lb). - Yes, with a full tank.
I think... - 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) really slides when it does.
I think I'm a good chauffeur, but I know it's deceptive.
A car can have all the electronics, but it's a lot of power.
The electronics are nice, but I'm approaching a corner. If I don't brake in time, the young trees...
Why would it be young trees in this corner? Nobody knows.
You'll have a problem, because it doesn't take the corner into consideration.
ESP won't save you when you're going in too fast. - I overestimated myself once and won't repeat it.
Often you do see... - The Polo taught you to overestimate yourself once.
3 times. - You did that 3 times.
I haven't crashed a car since.
I did learn small lessons on the road. - We all do. At least, I hope so.
I learned that a big car brakes slower than a small car.
An emergency stop... - You need to add a couple of meters.
Everyone experienced this.
Coming back to the car, I think it's fantastic. I'm having lots of fun and it's lovely to drive.
Every day I drive I'm reminded how fast it is. It has a lot of power.
Why a W12? Because it has power. It's not a slow car on the road.
It's still civilized. The V10 got me on the path of wanting it.
The V10 is a diesel TDI, right? - I test drove a gasoline V8.
It does sound more violent than this one. - An 8-cylinder has a rawer soundtrack than a W12.
This runs like a sewing machine. - It sounds cooler, but it will get boring.
It has to move. It's a tool taking you from A to B.
Back to where this started: what cars are you looking at on Marktplaats?
Over the years I shifted to comfort.
It has to take you from A to B in all comfort.
I usually drive alone, but not all the time. The car has to be fun for the other person as well.
That's why I'm looking at cars that have an interesting engine; a wolf in sheep's clothing.
When driving this car, most people think it's a luxurious Passat.
Great. - Let them think that.
It doesn't bother me. Some people know the 4 exhaust tips are there for a reason.
We can go for a drive. I like it. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Maybe I'll buy a Volvo when I'm old.
I shouldn't say bad things about Renault.
Not a Renault fan? - I think the old Renaults and fast Clio are pretty.
Those stand out, though. It shows you're driving a fast car, so it'll happen every third traffic light.
That's not my cup of tea. - Alright.
Clear. Thanks. It was cool to drive a W12. - Thanks for not crashing it.
I tried. About the chauffeur job: if I have nothing to do in the weekend, you can message me.
I will. Great. - If you want me or Wouter to drive your cool car,
sign up using the form on the website. Maybe we'll be driving with you next time.

How To Shine And Seal Your Car - Chemical Guys Car Care - Duration: 9:56.
What's up guys, it's Mustang week in the Detail Garage and if you've been following us with
our flowchart we started by washing this Mustang, we clayed it, we polished it and now we're
moving on to the sealing and waxing process.
So this blue metallic flake is really popping but it has a center stripe that is vinyl and
we want to protect both from harmful UV rays or anything that can degrade the surface.
Over here, I have our JetSeal and our 5050 Wax.
Starting with JetSeal this is going to give it up to 12 months of protection against harmful
UV rays, anything that can degrade the finish and it's also making it super slick so that
no dirt and contamination stick.
To top it all off we'll use 5050 which is a natural carnauba wax which adds shine and
protection.
So lets get started by applying some JetSeal.
Just shaking the bottle and applying it to one of our Die Cut Foam Applicators we're
going to hand seal this Mustang.
You can use sealant on glass, paintwork, chrome and anything else that is painted, shiny or
clear to give it a durable protection against the elements by simply working it back and
forth.
We'll blotch it out to prevent a huge build up in one area.
Now spreading it out evenly to get a uniform coat and a great shine.
Like I had mentioned this car has a vinyl stripe running down the center and this is
an area that can have a build up of wax or sealant so to avoid any globs in that area
we're going to back work it off the stripe.
This way we're running with the grain and it won't build up on the edge, you can also
protect the glossy stripes working it back and forth in the same process that you would
on the paint.
Essentially as long is it isn't matte you can treat your gloss wraps as if it were paintwork.
So we're going to finish off this vehicle, applying JetSeal and letting it bond then
we'll buff it off.
Okay?
Good...Great...Grand...Wonderful...NO YELLING ON THE BUS!
So after waiting fifteen we're going to start buffing off the JetSeal.
I'll be using our Fluffer Miracle Supra towel, it has this high pile on one side which will
pick up all this product without streaking and then it has a lower cut pile on the other
side to buff off any remaining residue.
Since it has a silk banded edge we aren't going to install any swirls or scratches.
So I'll place it on the paintwork and working back in forth in straight lines, JetSeal comes
off nice and easy because I applied a very thin coat which uses less product but it bonds
nicely to the surface so it simple buffs away residue.
In the previous video you may have seen that I buffed the whole car using cleaner wax which
took care of any minor scratches and swirls but it also added a layer of wax which gave
it shine.
JetSeal is enhancing the shine as well as locking in all the work we have done for a
perfectly reflective surface and it is easier for things to slide off like water spots or
dirt keeping this car cleaner for longer.
And there we go.
You see that the thin coat of JetSeal buffs off effortlessly and now we can move on to
our next step being wax.
Using 5050, this is a natural carnauba wax that adds shine with a deeper glow and better
layer of protection.
Starting by pulling the lid off the pot and I'll be using a clean Die Cut Applicator.
I'm melting some onto the applicator and this can be applied to the glossy vinyl stripes,
paintwork, headlights and anything else you are looking to give extra shine and protection.
The idea behind detailing is to one make your car look better but also it adds longevity
to protect your investment.
Same idea we're going to blotch it out and work it back and forth in straight lines to
give a uniform shine and a durable coat.
5050 is a great wax to give any color car a nice deep, rich, warm shine.
You'll apply it by hand to give it a warm glow and slippery smooth feeling so when water
lands on your car it beads right off to prevent water spots.
I'm going to finish off the rest of this vehicle giving it a nice coat of 5050 wax.
After giving 5050 about twenty minutes to bond to the surface we're going to start buffing
it off.
Again we'll be using the Fluffer Miracle Drying Towel and I'll start by pulling off the tag
because whenever you get a new towel you don't want to leave that on there because that can
cause a scratch or swirl which is definitely counterproductive after you've already polished
and waxed your vehicle.
So we'll place it on the car and working back and forth in straight lines.
Again that fine coat buffs off easily without streaking or smearing to reveal a high shine.
The rich carnauba wax gives a high shine and a super slick finish and it also smells really
nice but more importantly it gives more longevity to your paint helping it last longer and look
better.
So we're going to finish buffing this car off and as a last step we're going to hit
it with C9 Vitalize because we washed the car with C9 Vitalize Wash and we'll maintain
that shine while giving it more hydrophobic properties to remove any fingerprints or residues
that it may have picked up while we were detailing.
We're just about ready to wrap up the detail on this Mustang.
We applied a coat of JetSeal to give it up to 12 months of protection against water spots,
UV rays and harsh elements.
Then coating it with 5050, which is a Brazilian carnauba wax, to give it more shine and depth
while making the surface really slick so nothing can stick to it.
Lastly we're going to use C9 Vitalize Quick Detail Spray.
This is designed for any kind of car with any kind of coating or even cars without coatings
to give it hydrophobic properties making it easier for things to wipe right off and enhanced
shine.
I'll be using our Fluffer Miracle Supra Towel, again I'll tear off the tag so we aren't installing
scratches or swirls.
Let's start at the top, I'll spray a gentle mist and then using our towel wiping it all
off in one direction.
Picking up anything we might have missed, fingerprints or dust because we are working
in a garage environment where dust is constantly an issue.
Flip over the towel to buff off for a high shine and you can also use it on your vinyl
wraps.
Anything that is glossy, shiny or clear to give it the same hydrophobic property while
removing remaining residue.
You can use it on your glass as I mentioned, you can use it on headlights, wheels and also
in your engine bay.
I know you guys are wondering what exactly this car has, it is a Mustang but this one
is kind of unique.
This Mustang has actually has little bit more horsepower than your standard.
This one has 1,400 horsepower.
As you can see there is a lot of painted surfaces in it and some brushed aluminum surfaces.
To avoid a lot of over spray I'll spray the towel directly and then a couple of the easier
to reach areas like up here on the strut bar and the intake.
I'll just wipe it off to restore that high shine and pick up any dust and debris.
This is a great way if you're going to a show or a meet to pick up fingerprints, dust and
debris to give your car the ultimate shine.
So if you guys want to learn more about these products check them out on our website Chemicalguys.com.
If you like this car or this video be sure to give it a thumbs up.
Don't forget to subscribe because we launch videos every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
We'll see you guys next time right here in the Detail Garage.

BMW Scares Employees With Tesla, Waymo Public Tests, LEAF AT-EV, T.E.N. Future Car News 4/28/2017 - Duration: 11:46.
Coming up on today's show: BMW uses fear of Tesla to motivate its employees, Waymo
launches public self-driving car trail in Phoenix, Arizona, and the Nissan LEAF that's
driving from the UK all the way to Mongolia.
No, Seriously.

It's Friday April Twenty-Eighth Twenty Seventeen, I'm Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield and this is
TEN, the automotive equivalent to This Week Tonight, but with less John Oliver, Donald
Trump, and Lolz.
As recently as a year ago, luxury German brands like BMW, Daimler and Audi were playing it
cool, telling anyone who would listen that they were far from scared of upstart Tesla
and its range of super-fast, all-electric cars.
But in recent weeks, Daimler, Audi and Porsche have all admitted that Tesla is a major threat
to their established market share -- and this week we learned that BMW is actually leveraging
fear of Tesla among its employees to encourage them to do everything they can to work hard
to help BMW catch up with Tesla's electric lead.
As Elisabeth Behrmann of Bloomberg reports, BMW has been holding regular "pep rally
/ horror film"showings, complete with images of rival luxury cars, and Elon Musk.
The message?
That the auto industry is in the midst of an electric assault which must be taken very
seriously, and that BMW needs to do everything it can to develop electric vehicles which
are better than Tesla's.
Following the slashing of Model S 60 and 60D battery unlock prices earlier this month,
Tesla has confirmed this week that it has slashed the battery capacity unlock price
for Tesla Model X 60D owners to just four thousand U.S. dollars.
Yes, it's still twice the unlock price for the Model S 60 and 60D, but this particular
upgrade is more attractive than ever before for Model X owners.
While I'm on the subject of Tesla unlocks, I should note here that Tesla has begun pushing
a new software update to all Tesla cars fitted with Autopilot 2.0 hardware which should activate
Automatic Emergency Braking on these cars and finally bring Tesla Autopilot 2.0 cars
in feature parity with Tesla Autopilot 1.0 cars
It's taken longer than Tesla had originally planned, but here's hoping the upgrade push
goes without a hitch, and finally makes Tesla Autopilot 2.0 owners a little happier.
Talking of fun, it seems owners of the Chevrolet Bolt EV -- all three and a half thousand of
them so far -- seem to be making plenty of use of the two hundred and thirty-eight miles
of EPA-approved range that each Bolt EV is capable of.
So much so that as of April second, the three thousand four hundred and ninety-two Bolt
EV owners in the U.S. who had their cars at that point had totalled more than four point
five million cumulative miles of zero tailpipe emission driving, with one owner managing
three hundred and ten miles on a single charge and on a continuous trip.
But it also admits that the average Bolt EV owner covers just 53 miles per day in their
car, something that will make hardened EV fans laugh, since they've been telling us
that 100-mile electric cars have been suitable for the needs of 95 percent of the population
for years.
Still, I guess that extra hundred and eighty-five miles is useful for long-distance trips right?
I mean, that's why I'd buy a longer-range car (and probably will at some point).
While most of us will likely stay buying plug-in cars for some time, Alphabet's self-driving
arm Waymo has just launched a new program in Phoenix, Arizona which not only previews
the day when we may not be owning our own cars but also not driving them.
The first-ever public trail of its fully-autonomous vehicle program, Waymo is inviting residents
in the greater Phoenix metro area, including Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe and Mesa, to sign
up to become "early riders" in its autonomous vehicle program.
With five hundred cars -- and five hundred trailed 'drivers' monitoring the vehicles
at all times, it's a great way to experience autonomous vehicles first hand -- and to get
a free ride, because there's no charge to take part.
Head to Waymo dot com to find out more.
Back to Tesla now with four quick updates regarding Model 3.
At the start of this week Tesla announced it would be doubling the number of Supercharger
stations around the world in preparation for Model 3's launch, expanding existing sites
and building new ones, with some sites primed to get several dozen stalls each.
It's been met with applause from most Tesla owners, but Roadster owners are begging Tesla
not to leave them behind as they still have to rely on the old 80-amp, 240-volt Tesla
charge stations that are becoming increasingly rare.
Along with expanding its Supercharger network, Tesla says sales and service will grow too,
and has just made the training and approval process to become an authorized Tesla repair
center cheaper and quicker, something which should help those Tesla owners who have found
themselves waiting weeks for accident repairs.
Finally, Tesla has taken delivery of the first batch of Model 3-destined robotic production
equipment, and has smoothed out threats of industrial action at its recently-acquired
Grohmann engineering in Germany, where a lot of the Tesla model 3 production equipment
will be made, by offering the 700-or so staff there a substantial pay rise.
Essentially, Tesla is oiling the wheels to make sure everything goes according to plan
when Model 3 launches this year, something that absolutely must go without a hitch.
All I can say is that I'm glad I don't' work at Tesla right now.
I'm sure there's more stress than a little…
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and in this case, Tesla should be
very flattered -- because Audi has just opened up reservations in Norway for the e-tron quattro
electric SUV, long before it's even announced official pricing.
To join the queue to buy one, customers have to put down twenty-thousand kroner (just under
three-thousand U.S. dollars), and then wait until next year for the car to actually enter
production.
Yes, this is very Tesla (right down to the not-announcing final specifications or pricing)
but actually, while people think of Tesla as pioneering that technique, I want to remind
everyone that Nissan and Chevy both offered online reservations way back in twenty ten
for the Nissan LEAF and Chevy Volt… so maybe it's just the EV thing.
*shrug*
On this show, you'll know I'll cover anything that's cleaner, greener, safer and smarter.
And while this next story certainly ticks two of the boxes, I'm not sure about the
other two.
Because this is the Flyer, a flying vehicle that's a cross between a water ski, a hoverboard
and well, a quad bike.
Powered by an all-electric drive system, this one-seat, propeller-driven flying bike is
the first vehicle to come from Kitty Hawk, a startup backed by Google's Larry Page
which has just come out of stealth.
Eventually, the company wants to build a fully-working flying car, but for now, it'll sell you
the Flyer from the end of this year.
It looks ...fun to fly, and I'm not sure about the learning curve, but as to its safety?
Well, if you've ever crashed a drone I think you'll get my concerns.
Still, it's cool… and I want a go.
What about you?
For some time now, it's been no secret that Tesla electric cars -- especially Model S
and Model X -- retain their value as they age, with very little depreciation compared
to other cars of any fuel type.
But this week we learned via Autolist that Tesla Model S cars sell far quicker than the
competition in the used car marketplace, with the average used Model S selling in 87 days
-- about five percent quicker than other competing vehicles.
What's more, the listing prices for Model S sedans were between three and five percent
more than their competitors in the used car marketplace.
And that's just helping to push Tesla shares even higher as investors grow in confidence
that Tesla -- and its cars -- are a good deal.
From cars now to how they're powered.
Or rather, how they're not powered.
You see, last Friday, for the first time since the Industrial revolution, not a single piece
of coal was used to power the UK for an entire twenty-four hours.
Over the past few years, burning coal for electricity generation has dramatically dwindled
in my home country, replaced by cleaner (although still emissions-producing) natural gas, increased
renewable energy, and increased nuclear power.
While it's a good shift toward cleaner power, the UK -- like the rest of the world -- needs
to make sure that it doesn't replace coal-powered electricity with other fossil-fueled electricity.
Instead, a continued investment in distributed renewable energy and products like the Tesla
powerwall will make the biggest impact.
Let's hope things go in the right way moving forward.
Back in the noughties, before cars like the Nissan LEAF even came to market, BMW's MINI
brand produced limited-numbers of the MINI-E, a two-seat, all-electric conversion of MINI
Cooper.
But despite this, BMW hasn't yet produced a production electric MINI that you can buy.
And while late last year MINI confirmed an all-electric production model was coming -- in
addition to the recently-launched MINI Countryman plug-in hybrid -- some question remained as
to what an all-electric MINi would be like.
Well this week, we've heard confirmation that MINI bosses want an all-electric MINI
to be one of its brand 'Superheros' -- a mainstream model that not only represents
the brand as a whole but entices new customers in.
Something that's not a compliance car but rather a fully-fledged, well-engineered electric
MINI that will sell just as well as the rest of the range.
Sadly there are no more details at present, but I for one can't wait to see what this
model will turn out like.
And finally,
If you've ever spent any time with the Nissan LEAF, you'll know it's a very competent
electric car which, with some help from a decent DC quick charging network, can be used
to make some pretty successful long-distance trips along major routes.
But the guys at Plug in Adventures are about to do something completely different with
a lightly modified Nissan LEAF.
Take part in the ten thousand mile Mongol Rally from the UK to Mongolia.
With the rear seats stripped out, the suspension raised, a special adventure light bar, heavy-duty
roof rack and the car wearing some chunkier rally tyres, the LEAF -- dubbed AT-EV -- will
be tackling some of the toughest rally conditions possible on this endurance event, just to
prove that electric vehicle travel is only as difficult as you make it.
Good luck guys, and here's to a successful completion!
Talking of completion, that's your lot for today.
