Derek Steelman, 28 years old.
He got hit by a car this morning in Downtown LA.
At one point he was number 3 on the FBI's most wanted hacker list.
Until the FBI caught him posting internal memos
- from one of the "big five" oil companies. - I could only find two photos.
Well, he was a hacker. He wouldn't have wanted a big Internet footprint.
Instead of prison, the FBI offered him a deal.
He turned white hat, started working for some of our off-the-books agencies.
- N.C.T.C.? - C.T.I.I.C.?
R.E.S.P.E.C.T.?
Among others.
His job was to prevent cyber-terrorists from breaching our systems.
So he could have been killed because of something he found out.
Wait! What is that?
That's an Insulin pump. Derek was wearing at the time of death.
Witnesses say Derek looked disoriented before he walked into traffic.
Was he drunk? On drugs?
But we can't wait 48 hours to get his tox screen.
If Derek was murdered, we need to know how and why.

This phone can scan viagra? - CES 2017 - Duration: 5:11.It's obvious that the craziest, most daring, most innovative smartphone manufacturers aren't
in South Korea or California, but in China, where they toil away in relative obscurity.
Chinese manufacturers are risk takers, and they're prepared to try things that their
larger rivals wouldn't dare.
Where am I going with this?
Well, earlier today, I stumbled upon the ChangHong H2, and my jaw dropped.
Just watch the video above, and you'll see what I mean.
In short, the ChangHong H2 is a phone with its own integrated spectrometer, allowing
it to identify the composition of objects.
It's a bit like a tricorder from Star Trek.
According to the promotional video, if you show it a punnet of strawberries, it will
show you how sweet they are.
And if you scan your biceps, it'll give you a breakdown of how much body fat you have,
as if the pendulous swinging of your bingo wings wasn't enough of a clue.
You could be forgiven for being skeptical.
The ChangHong H2 promises a lot.
And as we've seen time-and-again on crowdfunding sites like KickStarter and IndieGogo, there's
a lot of bullshit out there.
But this looks promising.
For starters, the technology isn't that far-fetched.
As we've seen in various other consumer technology products, spectrometers are increasingly
more affordable and crucially, smaller.
Furthermore, the manufacturer of the phone, Sichuan Changhong Electric Co, has teamed
up with Analog Devices Inc, who are a huge components manufacturer.
Given they employ over 9,000 people and are listed on the Nasdaq, you can safely assume
they're legit.
But let's take an ice cold shower of cynicism.
The sensor itself is based on Consumer Physics's SCiO molecular sensor, which is a product
you can actually buy today.
It exists.
But here's the kicker.
The original product was the subject of a fraught crowdfunding campaign, which saw it
taken down over an intellectual property dispute with another company.
When the sensor eventually made its way to punters, reviews were decidedly negative.
While it worked on a fundamental level, the original version of SCiO wasn't accurate
to the point where you'd reasonably feel comfortable enough using it to identify medicines.
From the above TechCrunch article:
Two bloggers who know the SCiO creators doggedly scan various fruits and enjoy good, usable
results.
Then, on a whim, they scan an M&M using the profile for "pain relievers."
Instead of failing, the scanner suggests that the blue M&M contains ibuprofen.
It's enough to make you wonder if there isn't something else going on besides molecular
scanning, a question that will hound the creators until these things finally ship.
Maybe the Consumer Physics's tech has improved since last September, but I'm not holding
my breath.
For the sake of fairness, the Changhong H2 debuted at CES earlier this year.
Both PhoneArena and The Verge got their hands on it, although it's worth remembering that
trade shows aren't always the best places to critically assess a product.
I'd be curious to see how it performs in a less-controlled environment, away from the
watching eyes of whoever is manning the booth.
I guess the biggest question I've got is who actually will buy it.
Besides the novelty factor, what's the point?
Industry is out, as any serious professional will be using more expensive dedicated gear.
And over the hour I spent writing this piece, I racked my brains to think of a single reason
why Joe Consumer would stump for a spectrometer-clad phone.
I couldn't think of one.
Yes, the ChangHong H2 is a crazy, innovative piece of hardware.
But innovation doesn't always lead to something you'd want to use.

How to improve your English by reading - Duration: 10:28.Hey, everyone. I'm Alex.
Thanks for clicking, and welcome to this lesson on "How to Improve Your English By Reading".
So, it might be very obvious how reading can help you improve, you know, your speaking
in English, particularly your vocabulary, but there are a number of reasons and a number
of things that reading regularly and reading in specific ways can actually help you to
improve your English, and also not only like your reading English, but your ability to
speak properly or to speak confidently.
And again, this applies not only to English as a second language learners, but also to
English speakers, period.
So pick up a book, and here's how picking up a book can help you to improve your English.
So, number one: You can improve your English by picking up any book, reading out loud,
and exaggerating what you're reading.
You might think: "This sounds ridiculous", but if you are a second language learner,
this is a fantastic way to improve your enunciation, your pronunciation, and presentation skills.
Even if you're not a second language learner...
English as a second language learner.
So, for example, it doesn't matter what type of genre you like, what type of books you like.
Me, personally, I love science-fiction, I love fantasy.
And I can turn to, you know, pages in any of these books and read out loud, exaggerate
what I'm saying, and just the act of doing this, of speaking out loud what I'm reading
makes me feel, again, more confident speaking in front of an audience, for example.
So I'll just open to a random page here and...
Okay, so in this book, just so you know, there's a horse, his name is Artaq.
And it says: "Artaq did not hesitate.
He veered toward the Silver River.
The wolves came after, soundless, fluid, black terror.
Will was sure that this time they would not escape.
Allanon was no longer there to help them.
They were all alone."
Now, what you notice is I'm...
I'm trying to exaggerate: "They were all alone."
Even like my l's.
And focus on every letter when you're reading, because this type of reading, reading out
loud, exaggerating, if you are a professional, this is a great way to build that clarity
in your speech when you're speaking in front of people, and pacing yourself, how fast you
speak as well is important, obviously, when you're giving a presentation.
This second part...
Again, this one can apply to both native speakers of English, but it's more specifically geared
towards English as a second language speakers, and that is: Paying attention to word endings.
And especially "ed" and "s" endings.
So, specifically past tense words, like "wanted", okay?
Or plural words, like "hawks" instead of one hawk, because a lot of, again, English as
a second language learners sometimes forget the "ed" ending when they're reading.
I've taught classes where, you know, students have to read out loud, and they're so focused
on reading and getting the words correct, but the pronunciation, they just drop the
ends of words sometimes, especially "ed", especially "s".
So let me see if I can quickly find an example.
Okay, here's one: "When he stayed on his feet..."
When he...
Oh, why am I pointing?
You can't see that.
You can't see that.
So: "When he stayed on his feet" this is one part of the sentence.
Again, you have the verb "stayed", so some new learners of English will sometimes read
that as: "When he stay", "When he stay", and they just drop the end.
So please, please, please focus on those "ed" and "s" endings, and this will really help
your fluency, the ability of others to understand you, as well as your enunciation.
"Stayed", okay?
Number three: Pay attention to punctuation.
Now, punctuation refers to the use of commas, periods, question marks, exclamation marks
when you're reading.
By paying attention to these things, you can actually focus on improving your intonation
and your fluency; two specific things.
So, the intonation refers to the up and down movement of your voice when you are saying
something or reading something.
So, for example, you know, raise...
In the second part I said: "Raise intonation for yes or no questions."
So if you notice when you're reading that, you know, this person is asking a yes or no
question, then your voice should be moving up at the end.
And, you know in speaking, this also improves that.
So, for example, in this book there is...
Okay, here's a yes or no question, the question is: "Did you find her?"
So, I see a question mark, I see a yes or no question, and let's say I want to read
this out loud and exaggerate.
I can also say: "Did you find her?
Did you find her?
Did you find her?"
And it sounds ridiculous, I understand, when you're reading out loud, exaggerating, but
after some time, you know, that exaggeration, that focusing on your enunciation, which is
kind of like making your sounds as clear and distinct as possible, focusing on every "l",
every "e", every "s" in a word, that will actually improve your pronunciation and the
ability of other people to understand you long term.
Another thing punctuation does: Pause briefly after periods, and pause after commas.
So, again, if you're giving a list of things, if you're reading and it says: "They went...
He went to the store and he bought apples, pears, and oranges", you could say:
"He went to the store and he bought apples, pears, and oranges", or:
"He went to the store and he bought apples, pears, and oranges."
It might not sound like there was a pause, but I did pause very briefly between each
word in that list.
So, paying attention to those things also teaches you, again, how to clearly enunciate
and also your fluency.
Now, again, your fluency is how smooth your language sounds when you're speaking.
So if you're just saying: "Dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah", it's fast and you think:
"I can speak quickly in English."
But it doesn't sound natural.
Nobody speaks like...
I mean, people do speak like that, it's more difficult to understand them, but it's better,
obviously, if you pay attention to short pause.
Hmm, comma.
Okay?
And finally: Highlight words you don't know.
So when you're reading, obviously, this is one of the major benefits of reading, is vocabulary,
vocabulary.
It's so important, I put it twice.
That's what happened here, okay?
So, maybe I will open this book and I'm going to read...
Hmm.
Hmm.
Okay, there's a person saying something here, and he says:
"There are books, ancient books of healing from the old world."
And maybe I'm a new English speaker, and I say:
"Healing, healing. I've never heard the word 'healing' before.
H-e-a-l-i-n-g."
Maybe I want to stop, highlight that, go back, check it out on the dictionary or something,
online, on my phone, somewhere, and you just learned a new word.
Okay?
So obviously, if you're reading a book and you're stopping 20 times in one page, your
book is probably too difficult for you.
But if you're stopping four, five, maybe six times a page because of new vocabulary, as
a new English learner, that's not bad.
Okay?
All right, so like I mentioned, reading, reading, reading can really help you improve your English
in a number of ways.
It can improve definitely your presentation skills by reading out loud and exaggerating,
your enunciation which is your ability to pronounce each sound correctly and distinctly
in a word, your pronunciation which is, you know, you're saying "book" instead of "booque".
Okay?
By paying attention to word endings, specifically "ed" and "s" will improve others' ability
to understand you, especially if you are an English as a second language learner.
Punctuation will also improve your fluency, your intonation if you're paying attention
to question marks or anything else; periods, commas, exclamations.
And highlighting words you don't know, all of these books, these books specifically,
other books, too, that you enjoy, will help you to improve your vocabulary.
So, unlike other lessons, there is no quiz for this one.
All I want you guys to do is pick up a book, pick up something you're interested in,
try out these methods, and let me know if it works for you because it's been working for me,
so let me know if it also works for you.
Also, don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel,
and I'll see you guys another time.
Bye.

I did WHAT?! | 30 Days of Brave Challenge - Duration: 6:57.*Pop*
Woot!
*Video game start sound*
What in your life would you do, that you're not currently doing, if fear or insecurity
or anxiety weren't holding you back?
If anything was possible?
If the voices of your doubters or that little voice in your head telling you that you can't
or that you're not good enough, didn't exist?
Believe it or not, that idea is more than an inspiring, 5 minute Casey Neistat video.
It's real.
I've done things that people have considered to be "brave" a few times in my life.
At the age of just 17, I left everything and everyone I ever loved and with only a few
hundred dollars in my pocket and moved to a city where I knew literally no one in order
to pursue a dream.
It failed miserably.
But my life was completely changed.
I literally wouldn't be the person I currently am, doing what I am currently doing, had I
not done that.
At the age of 23 I held my breath with anticipation as I clicked the "upload" button for the
first time, awaiting judgment from the internet for my very own youtube channel.
The art, my art, myself, my creativity that had never been good enough was on the table
and I was terrified.
Actually every upload to this day is clouded with thoughts like "this isn't even good."
"Thyey're not going to like it."
"Why am I even trying?"
But I upload anyway.
And because I upload anyway, have friends I could have literally never had and I have
a community of people who for some reason like what I make and they route me on every
single time I press that upload button.
They give me a sense of purpose and community.
You might think, wow Crystal you're confident and independent and secure.
No!
The truth is, I'm not.
I'm fearful, I'm dependent on encouragement from people like my husband, and I'm insecure
in almost everything I do.
If anything, I'm very determined.
Fun fact about me, determination is the driving force behind everything that I am and everything
that I do.
I will reach my goals.
I won't let the words of everyone who said "You're not good enough" "You're helpless."
"You will always give up when it's too hard because you're incapable" I'm not going
to let that dictate the results of my life.
I won't let them win.
Being brave is acting in spite of those voices, in spite of that fear and using your determination
to propel you into your fullest potential.
And in just 30 days, with the 30 days of brave challenge, my determination helped me conquer
one of my longest standing fears.
My body.
So what the heck is the 30 days of brave challenge anyway?
Every day for 30 days, you're going to get an email in your inbox with some daily inspiration
and a 5 minute activity that will help you achieve your goal.
It can be something as big as starting a youtube channel or talking confidently in front of
a group of people.
Or as small as getting better at drawing, or coding, or music.
All you have do to do that, is make the decision to be just a little bit more brave than you
were yesterday and take back what your fear and insecurity has tried to take from you.
So I'm sure you're then asking yourself "What are you so afraid of doing Crystal?
What was your 30 day challenge?"
Time for some backstory: between the ages of 13 to 14m I went from 5''6'' to
5'11'' in like, 3 months.
I then was extremely skinny to the point that most people assumed I was anorexic.
Couple that with debilitating social anxiety and an affiliation for things most people
considered to be "weird" and you then get the nick name "Ugly Freak" and some
really bad posture.
Even after a few years, when I finally grew into myself and started modeling, that insecurity
never went away.
The pressure that comes with modeling, of always being perfect and sexy and skinny was
overwhelming and it wasn't long before I found myself over a toilet trying to get rid
of lunch with the words "ugly freak" echoing in my head.
And to this day, I thank God that I was not physically able to do it.
I had to give up.
I couldn't make myself throw up.
After giving up, I just sat on the cold floor thinking "What am I doing?"
I've always felt like a foreigner in my own body.
So when I found about about the 30 days of brave challenge, I wanted to take my body
back and do the one thing I've always been too afraid to do, pole dancing.
Understandably, before your judgement gets all up in the comments, Pole dancing get's
a bad rep, I know that.
But what a lot of people don't know is that it is an art form similar to that of contemporary
dance and it is a sport.
It takes some serious strength and confidence and grace and emotional vulnerability.
I do not deny in any way that it can totally be used for sexy type purposes but it can
also be more than that if you want it to be.
And once I completed my 30 day challenge, took the dive, and walked into that class,
I actually found out that at any given moment when pole dancing, there is not one muscle
in your body that is not doing something.
I also discovered at any given moment when pole dancing, I am smiling like a complete
idiot.
Even if I did look like a salmon.
The whole way to the class, I was nervous and worried that this whole video actually
was going to be a mistake.
What were people going to say?
What were people going to think of me?
Of my past?
Of what I'm doing?
Of pole dancing?
But then I remembered what I learned over these last 30 days.
I am capable.
I am present.
I am committed.
and I am inspired.
I've worked for this moment and I'm going to back down.
All of that other stuff was my insecurity talking.
And I did things I never thought I would be physically able to do.
I surprised myself and It was so worth it.
I want to give a huge shout out to the people who put together the 30 days of brave challenge
for sponsoring this video and inspiring me to do something I would have never have done
other wise.
And now, guys, it's your turn.
Take just 2 minutes to sign up for the completely free challenge in the link down below and
