Session 215 Chapter 2

Verse 208 a continuation

You who believe, enter wholeheartedly into submission to God and do not follow in Satan's

footsteps, for he is your sworn enemy.

(Chapter 2: Verse 208) Why submit to God?

That seems to be a key question.

Perhaps a more fitting question: Is there any person who is superior to you in every

single way that he or she deserves to be followed?

Do you have more to offer so people would follow you?

We answer that in the laws of subordination, the subordinate has to be convinced that whoever

he or she is following has far superior abilities, both physical and mental.

But human beings can never have absolute superiority.

Each one of us is talented in his or her way, and we all need one another to survive and

thrive.

Thus, the only logical answer is for all human beings to follow a power that is truly above

them all.

When every one of us believes and submits to God, we enter into peace and end all contradictions

between powers.

I am not subjected to you, and you are not subjected to me; you and I both surrender

to a higher power.

More importantly, the force you and I willingly follow does not need us.

In other words, when God legislates, it is for our benefit and not His, so there is no

exploitation or abuse.

Human legislators take into account their own interests when they set laws.

The communist legislators set laws that serve them and antagonize other governing systems

such as capitalism.

Likewise, the capitalist legislator set laws to serve the elites and allow exploitation

of resources.

The only legislator that does not benefit from the laws He sets is God Almighty.

He says: 'enter wholeheartedly into submission to God.'

In essence, Allah is issuing two invitations.

First He is inviting all humanity to enter into Islam.

Second, He is inviting the believers to embrace faith in its entirety without picking and

choosing what they like and dislike.

There is one common reason behind these two invitations: if we do not enter into Islam

completely, then those who commit themselves to faith suffer from the actions of those

who do not.

A righteous person who does not lie or steal from others makes life easy for all those

around him or her; while a corrupt person who lies and steals makes life miserable for

those around him or her.

Thus, in order for the entire society to be upright and live in happiness, every person

must be committed to God's teachings.

People who do not understand this fact often misinterpret some verses from the Quran.

Let's take this verse as an example.

God says: O you who believe!

Your responsibility is your selves.

Those who go astray can do you no harm if you yourselves are guided.

To God is the return of all of you, and He will make you understand all that you were

doing.

(05:105) Contrary to what some people think, part of

your own guidance and part of your faith is to invite others to join Islam.

It is in your best interest for all those around you to become God conscious.

If you commit yourself to God's teachings, then the fruits of your faith and ethics would

be enjoyed by those around you.

People would trust working with you because you do not lie or cheat.

People would listen to you because you are honest and so on.

The opposite is also true; a person who does not commit him or herself to higher Islamic

values may become a source of corruption and misery in society.

So it is in your interest to bear the burden of inviting others to enter into Islam.

Don't say: "this will be a waste of my time.

I am only responsible for myself" No, keep in mind that inviting others to faith will

guarantee you opportunities in life, and will protect you and your family from the evils

of disbelief.

Every time you recite the first chapter of the Quran 'Al-Fatiha' in your prayers,

you say: "You alone we worship, and you alone we ask for help, Guide us to the straight

path.

The path of those whom You have blessed, not the way of those who earned Your anger, nor

of those who went astray.

(1:5-7) In essence, you are asking God to help guide you and all humanity to the straight

path of Islam so life can be enjoyed by all.

This is the true meaning behind the verse: 'enter wholeheartedly into submission to

God.'

As for the verse: 'O you who believe!

Your responsibility is your selves.

Those who go astray can do you no harm if you yourselves are guided,' it means, that

you will not bear the burden of the sins of others after you give good advice and sincerely

direct them to the straight path.

Previously, Soompi asked Samuel Sixteen questions submitted by Soompiers in an exclusive interview, where he talked about everything from his role models in K-pop to his most memorable moment from Produce 101 Season 2.

This time, Soompi compiled a variety of Samuels pre-debut videos for him to react to and the singer didnt fail to have a hilarious reaction to his old videos.

Samuel couldnt hide his own surprise and embarrassment at seeing his younger self singing and dancing to hits like PSYs Gangnam Style, Justin Biebers Never Say Never, and AOAs Like A Cat..

How to play "Don't wait" by Mapei *SPECIAL REQUEST | (Synthesia) [Piano Tutorial] [HD] - Duration: 12:31.

hi there my name is igor from smartclassicalpiano.com okay don't wait

by my pay I think it's my pay right maybe my pay I don't know so it was

requested by one of our members Julia thank you for this this was a fun

but to do under the song and I have two versions up this is the simplified

version and the other one on her channel that's the full transcription this one

I've done basically so you can sing along while you play no the only thing

I've left totally intact with the introduction you don't have to sing

during to introduction so I didn't change it at all but all the melodic

parts I've deconstructed the piano part and made it just more or less chordal so

it's a lot easier to sing along too and if you want to have a look at the

original the full piano transcription it's on our channel so go look and there

I just listened to the guy play it I wrote down as much as I could as

accurately as I could and yeah it's quite a bit more intricate really nice I

see just learning that one too anyway we've got the verse and the hook here

which is basically the whole song verses and hooks I repeated ad nauseam so you

learned this you learned the whole song all right after chat let's do it

you

you

there you have it don't wait all right I'll do basically

the intro maybe a little bit more than that in this tutorial and the rest of it

you're gonna have to find on our website smartclassicalpiano.com as always you

can do it for free so go and do that and I'll put the music up there too so the

simplified and the full version will be on our website too

all right let's do it learn this so what do we got we have this that's right now

let's do it both hands right away we have octaves right a in both hands

skip C D E and fall down to D major we have five and three and the left one and

two and the right cool that's the Frizzle unit moving on what we got

if this

all right so a couple things I got to say about this if you download the sheet

music you're gonna see you're gonna see this alright I'll play it slowly so you

see exactly I'm talking about we have these little grace notes right now on

paper what it looks like is this it looks like the a comes first and then

these two guys come in and it's fast right so what it looks like on paper but

that's not what actually happens this these grace notes are actually on the

beat which means that they coincide with the outside the top note of the of these

two guys so if the a is the grace note and we're going towards these two right

on paper that's what it looks like when you actually play it it should be like

this I'll play with one and I guess all right see that so the grace note a

aligns with the D of these two notes and it's and then the move from A to B

happens after the D is already played so grace notes are on the beat always this

is not really in the classical tradition although in the broke like Bach's

Goldberg Variations have this all the time all over the place

alright so we have this right so five one two three that's the grace note move

and then or two lift so that's five one race now move to

F sharp or two and then being one I would suggest

staying a little bit further up to key so you can hit the C sharp with some

amount of comfort left hand is just a bee

and three A's now I should say we're not covering the rhythm here at all so just

leave the rhythm aside and do that in a bit

so with both hands it's going to be

like that alright next section

so right hand we have three five one two five left hand is five and one F sharp E

and then a couple more thumbs

all right next

so that's three one and then again the Gracenote move aligns

with the top note for one moving to two

the left hand just has two and five

all right next unit moving on

so that's two quick DS DMB

then

and you can actually change the pedal on each of these think that's not good then

you have to basically left hand is octave G's octave F sharps notice I'm

using a four on black note octaves

octave II

sweet alright there it is so now let's do the rhythm right I'll count it mad

slow and you can follow along so at this point I'm just assuming that you have

learned the right hand and the left hand and you put them together with no

counting that's fine but just that you have all the the technical moves down so

we have a bar that starts empty one and two and three and

to

the reason I didn't count that was because this is a quarter note triplet

so when you're learning this and it really didn't make doesn't make any

sense to do this in such a slow tempo and counted out loud as a triplet you're

pets are super weird anyway so just learn it the way that I just showed you

don't count that triplet at all and then we have everything in place we can play

this at a faster clip it'll make a little bit more sense how to

contextualize it rhythmically you'll get something like was it

okay alright I think that's it that's it for

that now let's have a couple say a couple words about the next couple of

phrase is not that's too many let's do the yeah let's do the pedal so this is

dry or honestly you can do whatever you want with the pedal but this is what I

did so dry no pedal here and put the pedal down for this

and then we got change

change change freeze oh sorry all of those are changes

that change change change change and then she starts singing for these chords

but I'll finish that up on the website so Oh have a look on the website it's

free finish this thing off printed the sheet music and learned this music sing

it play it have fun thanks for watching and let's see in the next one

SMALL TALKS: what to talk about with a person you don't know well - Duration: 5:08.

Hi! My name is Jason Palmer and I'm an English teacher from Toronto, Canada.

Today we're going to talk about some ways that you can make small talk in

English. Sometimes you might find yourself in a situation where you meet

people in the supermarket, maybe you are in a taxi or you are at the hairdresser,

and somebody wants to have a conversation with you. We call this small

talk - when you talk to someone that you don't know very well and try to have a

little conversation. So, it helps to know what's what are some things that you can

talk about and maybe some things that you can't talk about when making small

talk with people. The first topic that's really good for

making small talk is the weather. So, this is very common for people to talk about

this. You can use some expressions like: "Oh, it's nice weather we're having today,

isn't it?" Or: "What do you think about that day, I guess it's pretty rainy outside".

You could say something like: "Wow! I think we're having a really beautiful day!"

These are all different expressions to describe the state of the weather and to

get someone to open up and talk a little bit more. The second topic that's great

when you want to make small talk is to find out what someone's job is or to

talk about your job. A great way to find out what someone's job is - is to ask the

question: what do you do or what do you do for a living? These are common ways we

could find out what their job is. And from there you could ask them maybe: why

they like their job or how long they have done their job, or even volunteer

information about your job as well. The third great small talk topic is

travel. Travel is often a great topic because

this is something that so many people enjoy and so many people like. So, if you

ask someone: do you like to travel? They often will excitedly say "yes", and from

there you could ask: where have you been? You could tell them about some places

that you have visited that you enjoy. So, this is another way to open people

laughing to get them talking. The fourth way or the fourth topic to

get people talking and making small talk is to talk about hobbies.

You could talk about your hobbies or their hobbies. A good question to ask is:

what do you like to do in your free time? Or: what do you do when you have extra

time , what do you do when you have spare time?", - these are all questions to relate

to what kind of hobbies people might have and from there you can talk about

whatever hobby they do. And finally two other things you can talk about when

starting small talk with someone are things like sports or movies. You can ask

a question like: are you into sports, are you into movies? This means are you

interested in. You could also say: are you fond of sports, are you fond of music or

are you fond of movies, are you keen on, are you keen on sports, are you keen on

movies? From there you could ask someone what movie did you see

last or have you seen Avatar, - questions like this would be suitable here. Those

are five topics that are good to talk about when you open up some small talk

with people. But there are a few that you should be careful of and that you should

avoid, and that is talking about politics or religion. Often you don't know what

kind of view someone might have about religion or what their political views

are, and they might be opposite of yours. So it's best to avoid those topics. Keep

the conversation light and uneasy topics

that people feel comfortable with and that will make people feel happy or

excited. Okay, to review some great small talk topics that you can use with people

are: the weather, your job, travel, sports or movies. That's all for me today. Please

subscribe to our channel below and I will see you next time.

there's so much in this world I'll never know

so I take a look around, soak it in and double down

there's much complexity involved why do we dumb it down?

I get up early morning, yawning as I awake resisting divisions that make my mental break

fantasising bout a world where equality is realised

and there's equity for those who's motherlands are colonised

history repeats so LION don't you sleep your future's been predicted in a tirade

Why I Don't Talk About Being Bi - Duration: 7:23.

Whatever reason people have for using a certain label for their sexuality is great and should

be respected.

I did finger guns below the camera.

'Cause I'm bisexual.

That's how you know someone's bisexual.

[finger guns] [upbeat music]

Hi I'm Jackson Bird and I talk a lot about being trans.

Trans.

[slow mo] Trangender.

But I don't talk that often about being bisexual.

Some people aren't actually even sure if I'm bi. I am.

I am bisexual.

I am The Bi... sexual.

Why do we have to say "sex" so much when we're talking about sexuality?

I mean, I guess it makes sense.

This week happens to be Bi Week, Bisexual Awareness Week, so I wanted to A. remind you

all that I'm hella bi and B. chat about why I don't talk about it that much.

I think the first reason is because, when you're trans, sexuality can be a bit of

an afterthought.

I mean, for me it was actually a huge hang up of a misunderstanding in figuring out my gender.

But that's a story for another time.

But y'know once you've like unpacked the Meaning of Gender and realized just how infinite

and fluid gender is, a lot of trans people find ourselves feeling pretty ambivalent about

the gender of whoever we're attracted to.

Hashtag NotAllTransPeople.

There are absolutely trans people out there who are staunch and steady in their sexualities

and I get that and I respect it.

But it is fairly common even for trans people who are only attracted to one gender to be

a bit more open or exploratory in their tastes than their straight or solely gay cisgender

counterparts might be.

And in fact, it's pretty common for trans people's sexualities to shift a bit during

transition.

Which is another reason why I didn't talk about my sexuality online for a while.

'Cause that happened to me.

A little bit.

Kind of.

Ish.

So like a lot of other trans people, when I started to socially and physically transition,

I felt a new comfort in my own body and identity and place in society, which led me to be...

way more attracted to girls than I had been in the past.

I think part of it is that comfort in ourselves that can open up an attraction to people whose

gender expressions might have previously triggered our dysphoria.

I've also heard from trans people who maybe identified as gay, that once they're settled

in their true gender, they find they still prefer being in same gender relationships

even if that means they're now dating a different gender than they were before.

Gender and sexuality are weird!

And wonderful!

And fluid.

And complex.

But to speak just for myself for a minute.

Not for any other trans or bi person out there.

I think what happened with me might have had less to do with newfound comfort and more

to do with relinquishing the last bits of my internalized biphobia.

So I grew up in Texas in the 90s and early 2000s.

So, as a product of my environment, I wasn't just biphobic.

I was homophobic, and definitely transphobic.

The culture around me exacerbated my fears of the feelings I was having.

Especially as a teenager, I was terrified by my attraction to girls.

It wasn't that strong at the time, but it was definitely there.

And maybe it would've been stronger if I hadn't tried so hard to repress it so hard.

And y'know I was given a great reason to repress it because everyone around me, including my

AP Psychology curriculum, told me that bisexuality was fake.

A mental disorder.

Anyone who thinks they're bisexual should choose one.

Now this was great news for me at the time because it meant I could only be into guys

and this weird, fleeting sometimes attraction I was having for girls was just like a weird

fluke.

It also meant that I couldn't be a trans guy because trans guys can't be into guys.

[Sighs] Yes, they can and that is another story for another time.

But as I got to college and learned that bisexuality and pansexuality are totally real and legit

sexualities, I still wasn't sure.

Privately, I started really identifying with and feeling comfortable in the label of bisexuality,

but I didn't know if I was bisexual enough.

That's one reason why I didn't immediately say what my sexuality was when I came out

publicly as trans.

I needed to sit with it for a bit.

And once I gave myself that time to think about it, without self-judgement for the first

time ever, I realized, yeah, I'm totally bi.

Hella bi.

There's a couple more reasons I don't often talk about it though and they have to

do with biphobia from others.

Sure there's the biphobia from the general heteronormative public.

When it's easier to pretend I just like girls when I'm around a bunch of like cis

het guys that really intimidate me.

And there's a lot of biphobia in the gay and lesbian communities.

People who think like I used to be that bisexuality is fake.

But the type of biphobia that I personally encounter the most in my nice little queer

bubble is people saying that bisexuality is transphobic and that if I'm attracted to

people of all genders and non genders, as I am, that I'm actually pansexual.

Actually.

Oh, thank you for telling me.

Didn't realize.

Pansexual!

Actually.

Listen, I'm not necessarily going to correct someone if they say that I'm pansexual,

but it's not the term that resonates the most with me and, more importantly, bisexuality

is not transphobic.

Are there some bisexuals out there who are transphobic?

Undoubtedly.

People of all kinds are transphobic, including some trans people.

But there are tons of inclusive definitions of bisexuality.

Whether you define it as being attracted to two or more genders or being attracted to

the people of the same gender as yours as well as people of different genders than yours.

Now some people do prefer the term pansexual because it expresses more of a feeling of

being attracted to people regardless of gender.

Or they like the term for innumerable other reasons personal to them.

Whatever reason people have to use a certain label for their sexuality is great and should

be respected.

I like the term bisexual because it just feels right to me and because, frankly I like history

of the label and I want to join the fight for more bisexual representation in media

and in the LGBTQ+ community.

Bottom line is that sexuality is complicated.

Bisexuality is real.

Peoples sexualities can absolutely change over time, for any reason.

And we gotta respect that.

And not just silently, privately respect it ourselves.

We gotta work to make sure people's identities are respected by other people, and institutions,

and the media.

We gotta speak up.

Educate others.

Push for inclusive language and legislation.

And let's fight for characters who actually SAY that they're bisexual instead of "not

liking labels" or suddenly changing their sexuality from gay to straight and back again.

I mean, both those things are valid, but can we just have a few more characters explicitly

saying they're bi or pan?

It makes a huge difference to kids to see someone explicitly like them reflected in

You don't need a brain to sleep. Just ask jellyfish - Duration: 2:30.

Researchers have discovered jellyfish sleep

and have the same trouble we do waking up.

Since jellyfish are very low

on the animal family tree,

the work suggests that the ability to sleep

evolved quite early.

So how can you tell an animal is napping

not just resting or in a coma?

For one, we are unresponsive to gentle nudging

or soft sounds

but wake up immediately if we fall out of bed

or hear a loud enough noise.

If we cut our sleep short,

we are groggy the next day,

and sleep more soundly when we finally

do get to bed.

Researchers decided to see if a jellyfish,

whose nervous system isn't centralized and

doesn't include a brain—could sleep.

They looked at several species of upside-down jellyfish

in the genus Cassiopea,

which often hangs out

facing upward – instead of downward

Like corals but unlike most jellyfish,

Cassiopea host algae in their bodies

that help supply nutrients.

They pulse their bells once per second,

keeping water flowing over their bodies

to sweep in food and clear away waste.

The researchers monitored the pulsing of 23 animals,

day and night, for almost a week.

During the day, the jellies pulsed ~60 times/min

At night, the jellyfish slowed to ~39 pulses.

To see if they were really asleep,

the researchers lifted them off the bottom of the tanks

and measured how quickly they started

swimming back to the bottom.

Like a groggy person slow to get moving in the morning,

the jellyfish were slow to respond.

But they did wake up--

if they were lifted again 30 secs later,

they swam immediately down to the bottom.

Finally, when some jellyfish were deprived of sleep,

they were not as active the next morning—

-- but recovered the next day.

That sleeping evolved in these animals suggests that

it's not just that brains need sleep,

but that individual nerve cells may as well.

It might also mean that sleep was present

in the very first animals to exist on the planet.

Daniel Bryan Footage WWE DON'T Want You To See! | WrestleTalk News Sept. 2017 - Duration: 3:41.

Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News - I'm Oli Davis.

And because it's been a while, this...is a How Many F**** Does Daniel Bryan Give Special!

Daniel Bryan Talks Wrestling Return Daniel Bryan retired from wrestling early

last year due to multiple concussions and a medical test revealing a chronic lesion

in his brain.

But the decision wasn't straightforward.

Many doctors did medically clear Bryan, but, according to the Wrestling Observer, Vince

McMahon rushed him into an early retirement.

Bryan has said in interviews ever since that he will wrestle again, most recently citing

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy - a treatment apparently so successful, his real-life wife Brie Bella

also now supports his in-ring return.

WWE, however - and quite understandably given the potentially tragic effects of multiple

concussions - don't, making Bryan sit out the remainder of his WWE contract in a non-wrestling

role as Smackdown General Manager.

But that contract reportedly expires this time next year...

Which brings us to Bryan's Twitter Q+A promoting this week's episode of Total Bellas, where

he was very open about his wrestling return plans.

And - to paraphrase a pipebomb - if he can't do it in WWE, maybe he'll go to New Japan

Pro Wrestling.

Maybe he'll go back to Ring of Honor.

Get the f**** given counter ready!

"On a scale of 1 through 10 how bad do you REALLY want to return to the ring?"

"11... or higher" "who would you like to wrestle in the Indy

scene first once you come back" "I wouldn't mind tapping out the entire

Bullet Club @CodyRhodes @MattJackson13 @NickJacksonYB @MartyScurll"

Would you wrestle @KennyOmegamanX and where would you fight him?

#TotalBellas "Yes, and in any big arena"

And in a timely interview with FanSided, Ring of Honor COO Joe Koff declared he "would

personally welcome [Bryan] back" if he wanted to return to the promotion.

An interview Bryan himself retweeted with the caption "interesting read…"

Daniel Bryan Shoots On Smackdown And a wrestling return isn't the only thing

Bryan has been overly honest about on Twitter.

During that same Q+A, a fan asked if he still wants to bring Cesaro over to Smackdown Live

- which Bryan replied with: "Yeah, but I wanted @SamiZayn on smackdown

and that hasn't worked out as well as I thought thus far"

Daniel Bryan Footage WWE Don't Want You To See

And just earlier this week in a Facebook Live Q+A session, Brie Bella revealed footage of

her and Daniel training in the ring had been blocked by WWE - all because it showed Bryan

taking a bump.

BRIE: ...they weren't allowed to be shown.

BRYAN: Oh... yeah.

Because she drop kicked me off the second rope.

BRIE: I did what everyone asked, I did it for 800,000 [followers], and it wasn't allowed

to be aired.

BRYAN: Yeah.

Because they're not allowed to show me doing anything wrestling-wise.

Bryan continuing to wrestle in his own time is backed up by what Brie's sister Nikki

told Inside the Ropes last month: "He's been training with Brie... he wants

to compete, he wants to be in the ring."

Which gives an overall total of Daniel Bryan giving...NEGATIVE 38 F**** It's way less

than zero.

Are WWE bringing back Non-PG programming?

And Luke Harper is reportedly getting a new gimmick.

Republicans Can't Defend Their Cruel Graham-Cassidy Health Care Bill: A Closer Look - Duration: 11:57.

-Republicans are once again making a mad dash

to rush through a bill that would repeal Obamacare

and drastically overhaul health care in this country.

And once again, very few Republicans

can actually defend their bill or explain what it does.

For more on this, it's time for "A Closer Look."

[ Cheers and applause ]

-There's nothing Donald Trump is better at

than making big, empty promises

even though he has no idea how to achieve them.

The latest example of this strategy came yesterday

when Trump met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas

at the United Nations

and said he'd like to achieve Middle East peace.

Although he seemed to have no real clue how to do it,

as you can tell from his nonchalant tone.

-Israel is working very hard toward the same goal.

And I must tell you,

Saudi Arabia and many of the different nations

are working also hard.

So, we'll see if we can put it together.

Who knows? Stranger things have happened.

[ Laughter ]

-He talks about Middle East peace

the way people talk about getting back together

with their ex.

Hey, stranger things have happened, right?

But he's right.

Not only have stranger things happened,

stranger things are constantly happening.

I think we might all be trapped

in an episode of "Stranger Things."

We're a week away from Trump saying

[As Trump] we're gonna pass health care,

achieve Middle East peace,

and bring Barb back from the Upside Down.

We can get it done.

[ Cheers and applause ]

[ Normal voice ] Even when it comes to basic details,

Trump is, of course, often confused.

Just take his address yesterday

at a luncheon with African leaders

where he tried to praise several African countries

for their efforts on health care,

but seemed to make up a country on the spot.

-In Guinea and Nigeria,

you fought a horrifying Ebola outbreak.

Nambia's health system is increasingly self-sufficient.

-Of course, the problem is

Nambia is not a country that actually exists.

I'm pretty sure Trump pulled that right out of his Djibouti.

Trump is single handedly keeping

Google's "did you mean" feature in business.

[ Laughter ]

That's right. Trump thinks there's a country

called Nambia, which, of course, is right next to Nigeristan

and Kenya-Believe-This- [Bleep ]-Guy.

[ Laughter ]

[ Cheers and applause ]

Now, the "who knows" approach is basically the same approach

Trump has used on health care.

During the campaign, he claimed repeatedly

that he would provide great health care

at a much lower cost that would cover everybody

and that it would be very easy to pass.

Well, shockingly, it turns out Trump had no idea

how to accomplish any of that.

In fact, during a recent meeting

where a bipartisan group of lawmakers

tried to pitch him on a compromise bill

to shore up Obamacare,

all Trump cared about was the name.

According to Politico...

A Democratic lawmaker responded...

Hell, you can call it Nambia!

[ Laughter ]

No one else is using it.

Now...

[ Applause ]

Democrats and Republicans actually were getting close

to a bipartisan solution that would have fixed

some of the problems with Obamacare

while keeping the bill largely in place.

But GOP leaders decided to blow all of that up

in favor of yet again another last-ditch effort

to repeal and replace Obamacare.

-A health care hail Mary --

The president pushing Republicans

to not let this Obamacare repeal fail.

-This is the Graham-Cassidy bill.

This, really, for all intents and purposes,

is the final hail Mary

here for Republicans on health care.

-Republicans pushing ahead with a hail Mary plan.

-This hail Mary option.

-They're referring to it as a hail Mary, essentially.

-There is the last-ditch, furious hail Mary effort.

-Of course, if this thing passes,

a hail Mary might be the only health care option

some people can afford.

Hail Mary, full of grace,

does this mole look weird to you?

But that's right.

They're throwing another hail Mary.

Except Republicans aren't exactly

Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers.

They're more like Jay Cutler.

-He's gonna launch it.

And that was way out of bounds. Incomplete.

[ Laughter ]

-Now, the main sponsors of this new bill

are Senators Bill Cassidy and Lindsey Graham.

And they are trying to rush it through for a vote

as early as next week.

Now, as you may recall,

Republicans complained repeatedly

about the process Democrats used

to pass Obamacare in 2009 and 2010

even though it was a far more open process

than they're using now.

But they didn't just complain about the process.

They even complained about the length of the bill itself.

In fact, back in 2009, Senator Mitch McConnell thought

the page length of the Obamacare bill was so damning

that during one floor speech,

he kept repeating it over and over.

-We have now had less than 48 hours

to look through this 2,074-page bill.

This massive, 2,074-page bill.

Buried in this 2,074-page bill.

This monstrous, 2,074-page bill.

On what is buried in this 2,074-page bill.

In this 2,074-page bill.

Were we to pass this 2,074-page bill.

This 2,074-page bill.

What else do we know about this 2,074-page bill?

-Well, there's one thing we definitely know.

[ Laughter ]

But here's the thing. It's supposed to be long.

This isn't book club.

You're reorganizing one-sixth of the American economy.

Details are good.

Just take Obamacare's protections

for people with preexisting conditions as an example.

Obamacare had lots of very specific legal definitions

for what kinds of coverage

people with preexisting conditions should get.

By comparison, the new GOP bill has none of those details.

And I don't know if you've met

the guy who will be signing this bill,

but I'm not sure we should go by his definition of affordable.

[ Light laughter ]

So the bill takes money away

from vulnerable people on Medicaid

and strips away protections

for people with preexisting conditions.

Now, you might think, "How could any senator

vote for such a monstrous bill?"

Well, the answer is, they either don't know or don't care.

The website Vox interviewed GOP senators

and asked them basic questions about the bill,

and their answers were baffling.

Take, for example, this exchange

with Kansas Senator Pat Roberts.

[ Laughter ]

I love how he realized halfway through

that his analogy made no sense

and he just hoped the reporter had never seen the movie.

"You see, it's kind of like 'Forrest Gump.'

You probably haven't seen that movie."

"No, I've seen it."

"Oh. Uh...

it's like 'Minions.'"

[ Laughter ]

And on top of everything else this bill would do,

it would also...

Now, those cuts may seem savage and cruel, but to be fair,

Republicans have always preached fiscal responsibility

and the importance of saving money.

And I'm sure this next series of clips

about Trump's Health Secretary, Tom Price,

won't prove that they're all full of [bleep]

-Health and Human Services Secretary Tom price

is taking a little bit of heat after Politico found

he took five private flights last week

for events in Maine, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania.

The cost? Tens of thousands of dollars.

-That included a flight

from Washington, D.C., to Philadelphia and back

on a 30-seat private charter

at a cost of -- and this is really astounding --

$25,000.

-$25,000.

Do you know how short a flight is from D.C. to Philadelphia?

If you tried to watch

"Thelma & Louise" on that flight,

you wouldn't meet Louise!

Susan Sarandon is in it? Not the part I saw.

[ Laughter ]

So, Tom Price thinks Medicaid patients

should lose their health care, but has no problem

spending tens of thousands of dollars on private jets.

And he's not the only one.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin also came under fire after he...

And before that...

And when he was asked about that taxpayer-funded eclipse trip,

he tried to claim that he didn't actually care about the eclipse

because he's from New York.

-When I got there, the staff had actually intended

that we watch the eclipse on the roof of Ft. Knox.

And, you know, people in Kentucky

took this stuff very seriously.

Being a New Yorker in California,

I was like, the eclipse --

We got there, I was like, "Really, I don't have

any interest in watching the eclipse."

-You think New Yorkers don't care about the eclipse?

I can show you one New Yorker

who wanted to see the eclipse so badly,

he almost burned his retinas.

[ Laughter ]

[ As Trump ] No, I don't want the glasses.

I want to see the whole thing. No glasses.

[ Laughter ]

[ Normal voice ] So these guys think millions of people

should have their health care ripped away from them

while they spend thousands

on private jets and eclipse trips

they don't even care about.

And now the question is,

can they get the votes to pass this bill?

Republicans are pulling out all the stops,

even forming unlikely alliances.

Lindsey Graham, for example, said he's even been in contact

with his one-time nemesis,

Trump's former chief strategist, Steve Bannon

and that Bannon has been helping him

push the new repeal bill.

Graham said of Bannon...

Hey, Lindsay, when you're trying to get a bill passed,

you're not supposed to admit

that the people you're working with are evil.

[ As Graham ] Let's just say, Cruella de Vil and I

have been working on something that I believe

will be good for all Dalmatians.

[ Laughter ]

[ Normal voice ] But there is still some holdouts.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul remains opposed to the bill

because he thinks it doesn't actually go far enough

in repealing Obamacare.

So, to win over votes, Trump has been tweeting.

Yesterday, he claimed...

And before that, he tweeted...

So, Trump managed to claim three falsehoods in there.

Bill covers preexisting conditions.

It doesn't.

Graham-Cassidy Bill is great. It's not.

And Rand Paul is a friend of mine.

He is?

-His visceral response

to attack people on their appearance --

short, tall, fat, ugly.

My goodness. That happened in junior high.

Are we not way above that?

Would we not all be worried

to have someone like that in charge of the nuclear arsenal?

-Mr. Trump.

-I never attacked him on his look.

And believe me, there's plenty of subject matter right there.

[ Laughter ] That I can tell you.

-Plenty of subject matter right there.

Trump knows more about Rand Paul's appearance

than he knows about his own health care bill.

In fact, his Rand Paul burn book is 2,074 pages.

[ Laughter and applause ]

So Republicans are racing

to jam through a health care bill

that would destroy Medicaid and strip coverage

for millions of people,

including those with preexisting conditions.

Could Republicans really be shameless enough

to pass this monstrous bill?

-Who knows? Stranger things have happened.

-This has been "A Closer Look."

[ Cheers and applause ]
