Oppo R11 Review: Pretty, But Pricey - Duration: 6:00.
It's been awhile since my last Oppo phone, the Find 7A.
It was a bad enough experience to make me avoid their phones for years.
But with their aggressive marketing these days in Singapore,
I thought I'll give them another chance.
This is a stunning looking phone.
Especially in this shade of red.
Some may call it "inspired by iPhone"
but I think Oppo took it to the next level.
It's really thin, and the curve at the sides feels great in the hand.
I also love how the antenna lines and the chamfered edges looks on the phone.
Talking about iPhone look-alike,
you even get this case in the box that looks like the one that Apple is selling.
But I'm not complaining about a free case though.
I also love how they used a black front unlike Apple,
and I also love how fast the fingerprint sensor is.
It's using a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED screen,
which looks to be the exact same panel that the OnePlus 5 is using.
Which means that while it looks good indoors,
outdoor visibility isn't that great.
The panel looks greyish under direct lighting compared to other displays, and yes,
I can even see a bit of jello effect while scrolling.
I've seen some reviews that mentioned the lack of an oleophobic coating as well,
so I'll recommend just keeping the preinstalled screen protector on.
I also wished that it copied the OnePlus 5's capacitive buttons.
It's just way more flexible, and the default android buttons
just looks a bit off when you swap the order like this.
The R11 is the first phone to utilise the Snapdragon 660 chipset,
probably the best 600 series chipset from Qualcomm so far,
and comes with a few features normally found on higher end chipsets.
It's paired with a good enough amount of storage and RAM as well.
In day to day usage,
the performance is pretty decent considering the heavy skin that Oppo uses.
Apps launches quickly, and playing games on the highest graphics settings are mostly smooth
with just a bit of dropped frames once in awhile.
So yeah, I'm pretty impressed with the chipset.
Battery efficiency seems good too even with just 3,000mAh.
A day of heavy use is easily achievable, and Oppo's fast charge solution is still one
of the best I've used.
There are 2 downside here though.
The fast charging requires a proprietary charger,
and it's still using a microUSB port.
Which I don't think is acceptable even on a mid-range phone in 2017.
I know software experiences are always quite subjective.
One man's meat, might be another man's poison.
ColorOS 3.1 is as toxic as it gets for me.
The best way to describe it would be a bad iOS clone.
From the control centre, settings page, notifications,
and the way some apps looks.
And these are things that I can't really change with a launcher.
For me I switch around iOS and Android devices frequently,
and the UI differences are sort of second nature to me now.
So when I use Android, I have a certain expectation of how things works.
Same for iOS.
Maybe I'll get used to it,
but this disconnect really throws me off.
There are some nice ideas in the software,
like the screen-off gestures, or the ability to clone some apps,
but these are really nothing new or unique.
Of course if you're specifically looking for an Android phone that looks like iOS,
this is as good as you're going to get.
Talking about being similar to iOS, the camera setup is pretty much the same story.
You get a 16MP main camera with a 20MP secondary camera that gives a simulated 2 times zoom.
It's a familiar setup to the OnePlus 5 I reviewed earlier with a few minor differences.
Like the camera actually switches at the 2 times mark rather than at 1.6 times.
The metering of the images is just a tad brighter than what I like,
but it's not a big deal.
And most importantly, the image processing actually looks better than the OnePlus 5.
The camera's dynamic range is actually decent.
Details looks good, and the camera doesn't exaggerate the colours too much.
Most of the time, it's a pretty nice experience.
You also get portrait mode of course, with a decent looking effect if the background
is not so complicated.
The secondary camera doesn't really work in low light conditions though,
so when you're zooming in, it's all just digital zoom.
Which is why I still prefer a wide angle or a monochrome secondary camera over this setup.
Image quality in low light is actually still pretty good as long as you have steady hands.
Something that I wasn't really expecting from a mid-range phone.
Video recording wise, as long as you stick to Full HD,
you'll still get decent electronic stabilisation.
One of the highlights of the phone is actually the front camera,
which is a whopping 20MP sensor.
I don't think it's necessary, but the images does looks nice.
In normal shooting mode, the camera produces natural looking selfies with nice details,
and you can simply switch to beauty mode if you want to.
At $699 Singapore dollars,
it's a pretty expensive mid-range phone.
Not to mention a few other compromises I haven't talked about,
like the lack of NFC for mobile payments,
the average sounding speaker,
and the lack of any sort of water resistance.
Then looking at the prices with a 2 years contract with a local carrier, you can get
an LG G6 at a cheaper price,
or the Xperia XZ Premium at just a tiny bit more.
Even if you're looking to buy it off contract,
the OnePlus 5 is just a better phone and a better deal.
I do get that for regular consumers,
they probably won't care about some of the things that I'm complaining about.
When you talk about the basics like the performance of the phone, the battery life,
the screen quality, and the cameras, it's actually a decent phone.
The image quality is actually better than the OnePlus 5 despite a similar setup.
But I'm going to assume that since you're watching this review,
you're a bit more interested in tech like me.
To me, at the price that Oppo is asking,
it's just not a phone that I think is worth buying.
Thanks for watching my review of the Oppo R11,

Thanks, and see you guys on the next one.

Alex Sandro: Chelsea still want Juventus star but will only pay £40m - Italian reporter
That's according to Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini, who claims the Premier League champions are only willing to pay £40m for the 26-year-old. Sandro has bolstered his reputation as one of European football's top attack-minded full-backs during his stint in Serie A.
And Antonio Conte has been linked with a big money move to sign him up this summer as he prepares for the return of Champions League football to west London.
Chelsea have been unable to break Juventus' resolve that Sandro is not for sale and reports have suggested a potential deal could be dead in the water. Chelsea are yet to offer more than £40m for Alex Sandro, according to Niccolo Ceccarini.
Ceccarini thinks the Blues maintain an interest getting the Brazil international on-board though.
Speaking on Tutto Mercato Web Radio about Juventus' transfer business yesterday, he said: [They want] [Blaise] Matuidi, because he costs less than [Steven] NZonzi who has a €40m (£36) release clause.
[Mario] Lemina is doing medical visits with Southampton, while Chelsea have not given up Alex Sandro, but the English club will not go beyond an offer already rejected by the Bianconeri of €40m (£36m)..
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants Juventus star Alex Sandro ahead of next season. Chelsea look unlikely to secure Sandro's services before this weekend's Premier League opener against Burnley. Conte's men ran out 3-0 winners when the Clarets visited Stamford Bridge last August.
Although Burnley managed to hold on for a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor in February.

Lasers Are Great, But Diamond Superlasers Are Better, Here's Why - Duration: 3:39.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away someone boldly went somewhere or something,
blah blah blah.
But, the coolest part was this moon-thing made all these lasers that came together to
make a superlaser!
Remember that??
Turns out real life scientists have come up with a way to join smaller laser beams into
a super powerful laser thanks to the light bending abilities of diamonds.
But before we get into that, let's start with the basics of lasers real quick.
Lasers are simply coordinated waves of light.
If you could see the waves they'd all be aligned, going the same direction.
The technology was developed in the 1950s with no real practical use at the time.
Today, science uses lasers to precisely measure distances, communicate, etch and cut, cool
gases to near absolute zero, image tiny things (like bacteria), and hundreds of other world-changing
applications.
And the more powerful they get, the more possibilities open up, so it behooves scientists to keep
upping the power.
Essentially, to create a laser, power is added into substances until they "lase" or emit
aligned laser-light either in a continuous beam, or as pulses.
The average laser pointer that my cat chases needs a few milliwatts of power to do this,
and the U.S. military is testing lasers as powerful as 60 kilowatts!
The idea is to take out incoming rockets or mortars or swarms of drones., they're not
quite at Alderaan destroying levels yet.
But powerful lasers can be more than just death-beams, they can be used to image things
as small as viruses and bits of DNA, and lasers with even more power could help us ignite
fusion!
The problem is, you can't just build a single powerful laser willy-nilly.
As lasers get more powerful, the heat of the laser mechanism can affect the creation and
focus of the beam.
So instead, it might be simpler to just take a bunch of smaller beams and point them at
the same spot.
Scientists have been using that approach for years.
Mostly they use mirrors or lenses to focus lots of lasers at a single point, but getting
several powerful lasers to focus at the same place exactly on top of, say, a virus waiting
for a selfie… not easy.
It would be better if we could build something like the Death Star, right?
Lots of beams combining into ONE BEAM.
Aiming ONE BEAM?
That's easy!
And now humanity's Galen Erso has appeared in the form of researchers at Macquarie University.
In March 2017, rather than using lenses and mirrors, they grabbed a bit of ultra-pure
diamond and let the crystalline structure of the atoms do the rest!
They lined up four lasers, one that would shoot straight through the crystal and out
the other side, that they called the "seed beam," and three that would enter the crystal
at an angle, called "pump beams."
When they were all fired at once, the crystal transferred most of the power of the pump
beams to the seed beam, upping its power by almost 4.6 kW!
Yeah, that's a lot less powerful than that 60 kW missile stopper from earlier, but this
was just a proof of concept.
The researchers are optimistic that using diamonds to combine lasers can raise the power
barrier because the ultra-pure diamond doesn't heat up the way traditional technology does.
According to the researchers, this technology could be used to make lasers that could propel
spacecraft, clean up space junk, or shoot down missiles and drones!
It's so simple it's actually mind-boggling we didn't figure it out sooner.
Just don't ask them to go to a secret installation and build a planet-sized one.
It just it doesn't end well, okay?
So combining a bunch of lasers through a diamond sounds pretty cool.
But so does making lasers from jellyfish.
I'm not crazy.
Trace talks all about that right here.
Alright guys do you think this is the best way to get super powerful lasers?
Or is there another think we haven't talked about that you think is just awesome?
Let us know in the comments and subscribe for more.
I'll see you next time on Seeker.

Something you don't have in Korea, but only in the US (What I learned after the trip) - Duration: 9:10.
Hello!
This is the first shooting after I came back,
and here is Hyehwa.
I'm going to Starbucks.
Yeah, I'm kinda sick of Starbucks now, but...
I just got a text that my 'gifticon' is gunna be expired in 15 days
so I'm going to Starbucks again
just to use my gifticon
Today, I'm gunna talk about what I felt traveling US, as a person who has never been there before.
Above all, I'm about to edit the part that I was coming back from Vancouver to Seattle.
So let's check it out together.
Finally!
The line is short.
There're only few people today.
It's the same.
It's exactly the same.
They got your name wrong.
On the next day, we went to the airport, and came back to Korea.
It was a long trip!
It was fun!
Look at the weather.
So foggy.
Trip to America is special to anyone.
Cuz, to me, there were things that I like and don't like about America.
The good thing was that,
the 'freedom' that they have.
But on the other hand, the bad thing,
when I went to English cram school as a kid back then,
some friends who studied abroad didn't like Korea after experiencing western culture.
"This thing in Korea is not like that at least in US!"
"So Korea sucks."
That kinda attitude looked so bad to me at that time.
I also studied English for a long time as a mean of communication,
but I didn't like people who worshiped just becuz it's American cultures.
But I was curious, cuz I've never been to America.
and I finally made this trip, so all my last memories were coming out again
so I knew I was gunna realize many things about American culture.
You don't know how much I missed CVS during the trip.
Yeah, and then,
I realized so many things, but let me just tell you only one thing.
Um, this is about an expression, 'cool'.
In fact, from the first day, I realized they really often say this expression, 'cool'.
"I studied economics, or some other majors."
"That's cool!"
"I've traveled somewhere"
"Very cool"
"I'm doing video blogging"
"How cool"
The funny thing about this is that,
because they say this word so often,
I don't even know if they actually think it's cool when that say that.
Cuz, they say that so fast like this.
"Yeah, my name is Mickey Seo."
"That's cool"
Anyhow, they're trying to say I'm cool.
I was too new to this kinda expression, but a little later I got used to it,
and then I started to like it.
Let me tell you why.
As some of you may know,
I'm making videos after studying economics.
But then, now I'm gunna talk about something very sensitive.
This is my person opinion btw.
I think Koreans are often judgmental.
Judgement.
In English, we say 'judgemental'
Actually, this concept is too new to Korean, so we can't even find a word to translate.
But I'll just use the word '판단' in this clip.
In this vertical society called 'Korea',
what kind of school you're from, and how old you are,
and then what kinda job you have,
...are the things people will judge you by.
That's what I think.
Recently, I happaned to introduce myself to someone I got to know.
And then he asked me how old I am as soon as I told him my name.
and if I graduated, and what my job is.
It was like, he was trying to figure out all my personal details when it was just our first time to meet.
I actually don't usually tell my friends that I'm doing Youtube.
It's because people think that...
I'm likely have certain jobs just because I'm from this school and studied economics.
Like working for public enterprises, huge corporations, or taking national exams.
They have this kinda strong expectations on me,
so it takes too long time for me to explain what I wanna achieve.
Of course, I don't think my friends are gunna have bad judgements on me.
But still, it's like...
I feel I obligated to prove.
Sorta pressured.
Cuz, if I tell them I'm doing Youtube,
it's not like "Oh? Youtube? How did you do that?"
but it's "Oh?! Why do you wanna do?"
"What's your plan?"
I'm always under this kinda atmosphere.
I'd like to explain for them.
I mean, I wanna tell some stories, too.
but I can't express my style of my channel with words.
But then, I felt so comfy in America cuz people didn't care that much about this difference that I had.
When I tell I'm doing something, they're like,
"Oh, that's cool!"
These words,
I know they don't actually understand my job.
But they're not lying, either.
so it's like this.
In Korea, people are more homogenous and same,
so when I obtrude like this,
it looks quite unnatural,
and I'm like going somewhere alone,
and everybody else is looking at me like 'What the hell is that?'
but then in America, where there're many different people,
even if I obtrude, they're like 'What's wrong?'
That kinda atmosphere.
I just thought that could be a difference.
That's why I had positive impression on the word 'cool'.
And I kinda envied them, too, as a creator.
The atmosphere.
Of course, people living in the US might think...
"you just traveled for only two weeks"
"US is not necessarily like that when you live here"
I know what you mean,
which can be true to be honest.
But please consider that I'm just trying to talk about the difference in the atmosphere
purely as a Korean who mostly lived inside Korea.
In Mickey Seo episode 1,
which is called 'what's your plan?',
I said, whether you're national officers, police officers, fire fighters, or Youtubers,
we are all the same in that we all chose our paths following our own belief.
We're the same, I mean,
we just wanna support ourselves.
I'm making videos in Youtube
in order to show I'm no different from you, even though I do look different.
And it's because I have this kinda motive among all those different ones...
that I'd always love to make videos especially in Korea.
This is what I felt during my trip.
I'm so happy to finish this travel episodes btw.
I've got many other clips to make in Korea actually,
so I wanna work on my next clips.
So I'll be back on my original track, and see you in my usual Mickey Seo episodes.
(Explaning what happened in Korean)

PRP Alone is Proven for Short-Term Hair Growth, but Thickening Hair Needs Advanced Treatment - Duration: 10:45.
Thank you for your question.
You're 21-years-old and you state that you've been having hair loss for the past 3 years.
And you submitted two photos that clearly demonstrate the extent of your hair loss.
And you're asking about PRP to help manage your hair loss in light of the advice you
were given to wait about 4 years before undergoing a transplant. So I think the overall question
is about what you can do before doing a hair transplant.
Well, I can certainly share with you my approach to helping patients like yourself in my practice.
A little bit of background, I'm a Board-certified cosmetic surgeon and Fellowship-trained oculofacial
plastic and reconstructive surgeon. I have been in practice in Manhattan and Long Island
for over 20 years. In fact, I'm also the founder of TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration
Centers. This is a system we developed which evolved out of hair transplant to non-surgically
treat hair loss in men and women with genetic pattern loss using PRP and extracellular matrix
which I'll describe in more detail later.
So to begin with, it's clear that you have very aggressive pattern at a young onset.
And so, in our practice and we treat patients all over the world for hair loss using this
treatment called Hair Regeneration. And I'll explain to you a little bit about it in the
context of what PRP does.
Now PRP, just to review, is a concentration of the wound healing and growth factors needed
when you have an injury. And when concentrated, can be applied for a variety of indications.
In our practice, we use it for acne scars, for wrinkles, for under eye dark circles,
to help with the incisions and wound healing. And in respect to hair loss, it has been many
times proven that PRP can stimulate growth in hair loss and the dermatology literature
is recognizing the benefits and a lot of ideas are being generated about the mechanisms which
are clearly more complex. But the basic idea is that PRP can help people with hair loss.
The challenge is how sustainable is the treatment of PRP and will it really last as long as
its potential.
And this is where our treatment which we developed starting about 7 years ago called Hair Regeneration
evolved out of our use of PRP with a material called extracellular matrix or Acellular matrix.
This is a wound healing technology which leverages your body's own adult stem cell activity
for tissue repair. So for example, if there's a muscle injury, it helps muscle regrow as
opposed to scar tissue. Now this is fascinating and when we were doing this initially, we
were doing this to help hair grafts heal better during hair transplants. It's well known
that every hair graft that is transplanted doesn't make it and results can vary. So
we want to improve the outcomes of the hair transplants with Acellular matrix. We want
to also improve the wound healing of the donor area incisions. Well, a side-effect resulted
which was that thinning hairs appear to get thicker.
From that point forward, I made a decision to pursue the possibility of leveraging this
method to help people with thinning hair. It became clear to me that the majority of
the people who seek hair transplant are not bald people. They're people who have thinning
hair and they're losing hair and they're trying to keep up with the loss. Well, if
we can thicken existing thinning hair, well, we can actually move the clock back and actually
improve the overall volume. And over several years, we clearly demonstrated with our method
that we can actually not only get the coverage of a hair transplant but in many cases, we
can exceed the coverage of two hair transplants. It's a bold statement to make but it is
true.
Now that being said, in the context of your situation, we've established with Hair Regeneration
treatment that people of all ages with our protocols, we're able to get about 5 years
at least of stability and improvement. Basically, we're able to reactivate hair that's not
growing, stimulate the growth of thinning hair into thicker hairs, induce the shedding
of thinning hair and replace that with thicker hair. And very importantly, we're actually
able to stop the progression.
However, I have looked at people from different lenses and when I think of a variable that
currently is being challenged because of concerns of the drug finasteride, I'm looking at
patients in a way as it relates to possibly relative DHT sensitivity. So when I see a
young person losing hair very aggressively, it is possible that your hair is very DHT
sensitive. DHT stands for dihydrotestosterone. Testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone
or DHT by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. Now what happens is hair follicles that are
susceptible to DHT will actually miniaturize. So you have to ask the question: why is it
when you are in your 20s, you're losing hair while 80% of your contemporaries are
not? And one possible variable in that explanation is relative DHT sensitivity. So in my practice,
I do counsel patients to consider taking finasteride as a way to diminish the DHT dose on their
hair so that's something that PRP cannot do is affect DHT levels.
Now that being said, there is an opportunity with a treatment like we have called Hair
Regeneration to do something that a DHT blocker does not do and that is to stimulate hair
growth. What I believe is occurring with Hair Regeneration is we're effectively prolonging
the growth cycles. In some ways, we refer to it as like extending the warranty on the
hair. Now there's a challenge, of course when people have aggressive hair loss like
you do and there are going to be people that don't necessarily respond. But I think that
in your position, it's probably in your best interest to do everything you can to
slow down your progression as well as to stimulate growth to get maximal coverage.
Unfortunately, even though you are 4 years away from a hair transplant in this situation,
hair transplant isn't the perfect solution because the rate of hair loss, in your situation,
is likely to rapidly exceed the rate in which placement can provide reasonable coverage
based on what the degree of loss that you've experienced in that past 3 years and you're
only 21-years-old. So it's important that you understand the limits of the surgical
option as well as try to learn more about how to maximize the longevity of your hair
and maximize your coverage. Hair loss is unfortunately much more complex and we have limited number
of tools.
Hair Regeneration has essentially became a new category that allows our patients who
come to us from all over the world to improve the longevity of their hair growth cycles
and maximize the coverage. And for many patients, actually defer having a transplant. So learn
more about these options and I think the earlier you seek attention, the sooner and better
it is for you based on this rapid progression.
So I hope that was helpful, I wish you the best of luck and thank you for your question.

Prince Harry Engaged? Chelsy Davy Inches Closer To Princess Status, But She May Not Be 'The One' - Duration: 3:01.
Prince Harry Engaged?
Chelsy Davy Inches Closer To Princess Status, But She May Not Be 'The One'
Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy are reportedly on again.
According to People Magazine, the 30-year-old royal (who will turn 31 on September 15) is
back with his ex-girlfriend, and sources say that he is still in love with her.
The two recently met up in Africa while Harry was on a three month tour, and sources say
that they are indeed back together.
But while the world starts thinking about another royal wedding -- and maybe more royal
babies -- some are wondering if Chelsy Davy is actually the right choice for the youngest
son of Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
"She's her own woman.
She's very sporty and feisty.
But she doesnt like being mucked around," shared a source.
Could this interfere with her life as a princess?
It's something that is worrisome, for sure.
Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy have remained close friends over the years, and have kept
in touch.
Although many thought that Harry would reconcile with his ex, Cressida Bonas, it sounds like
he's had his eyes on Chelsy for many, many years.
The two first met in 2004, and dated on and off for seven years.
Chelsy was on Harry's arm at the wedding of his older brother, Prince William back in
2011, but went her own way shortly after.
Since that time, Chelsy has been a distant memory in the minds of royal-family-followers,
but has supposedly been in the forefront of Harry's mind for several months now.
According to She Knows, there are a few things about Davy that everyone should know -- in
case Prince Harry does decide to pop the question.
For starters, Davy is not British.
She was actually born in Zimbabwe, and went to college in Cape Town.
Davy is a lawyer, though she doesn't currently practice law.
As for some of the "red flags," here are some reasons why Chelsy might not be the best choice
for Harry.
Although she comes from a very wealthy family, Chelsy Davy really enjoys her private life,
which is something she'd undoubtedly be giving up if she married the prince.
"She already has plenty of money and she enjoys something that the Duchess of Cambridge never
will again: relative anonymity and the ability to go where she wants when she wants and do
exactly and only what she wants.
That would be impossible if she were to devote her life to royal service," reports She Knows.
Chelsy, as mentioned earlier, seems to be more a free spirit, and she loves having her
own agenda.
She also loves hanging out with her friends, and doing her own thing.
Although she is 29-years-old, it doesn't look like Davy is ready to settle down just yet.

Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac stole the show against Chelsea but Arsenal are far from finished article
ARSENALS new boys impressed as Chelsea fell to a third successive defeat against the Gunners at Wembley – but the north London outfit are by no means the finished article.
The Gunners came from a goal down to take the season opener to penalties, eventually winning 4-1 in the new ABBA format of the shootout.
And it was new boy Sead Kolasinac who stole the show, scoring on debut after coming off the bench, in addition to giving an all-round accomplished performance.
New £45m striker Alexandre Lacazette also delivered a neat performance, linking up well with his teammates and demonstrating his eye for goal, curling a fine effort off the post during the first half.
In contrast, Chelseas £75m new boy, Alvaro Morata, had a debut to forget.
The Spanish international missed a header from close range with minutes to go to win it for Chelsea, as well as sending his penalty during the shootout off the post and wide.
Arsene Wenger will take encouragement from the performance of his new additions as well as the result, but will know full well his squad is still not where he needs it to be.
Multiple players are free to leave, including Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson & Lucas Perez, and others, such as Olivier Giroud & Gabriel Paulista could also be sold if the right offer comes in.

However, Arsenal have struggled to get move on a number of players due to their inflated wages, which is hampering both signings and the ability to re-sign a number of key players.
The Gunners are continuing to work on Thomas Lemar, but also hold interest in Jean Michael Seri as well as Virgil Van Dijk, deals which cannot be pursued until players are let go.
And the club know full well they need to move fast on both exits & incomings if they are to have a squad in position to challenge for major honours this season.
