One of the most commonly used pieces of equipment in biotech laboratories is

called an analytical balance. We can use it to take very precise measurements...

four places to the right of the decimal point. Keep in mind that a small paperclip

weighs about one gram. In other words the analytical balance isn't designed for

weighing heavy items. For example, this balance has a maximum weight of 310

grams. That's about the same weight as a can of tomato soup. Weighing anything larger

than that will cause damage. The first consideration is selecting the workspace.

The balance needs to be placed on a steady surface such as a marble counter

or a lab workbench in order to minimize vibrations. The balance shouldn't be used

near doorways or air vents because it's sensitive enough to be affected by air

currents. Check to see if the balance is level. Adjust the feet until the air

bubble is inside the black ring. If the balance has been unplugged or turned off

you need to let it warm up and reach the required operating temperature. Let's try

an example. We want to measure out 1.5 grams of sodium bicarbonate. Typically we

use weighing paper for measuring anything less than 5 grams. Fold the opposite

corners of the weighing paper together and make a crease. Then do the same for

the other corners. Place the paper on the balance pan. Close the side doors and

press the tare button to zero out the paper. Use a lab scoop to slowly add the

sodium bicarbonate to the paper. Close the glass doors and wait for the balance

to lock in its reading. Continue adding sodium bicarbonate until

you reach 1.5 grams. Close the doors to read the actual

weight. 1.5026 grams - and always document your work in your lab notebook.

Let's do another example. This time we'll weigh something a little heavier so

we'll use a weigh boat instead of paper. Let's measure out 12.19

grams of powdered Tris buffer. Place the weigh boat on the balance pan. Close the side

doors and press the tare key. We're aiming for 12.19 grams

so the measurement should be within plus or minus 0.02 grams. Always document your

work in your lab notebook. Cleaning the balance is an important step, especially

at the end of the day. Put it into standby mode or unplug it. Remove the weigh

pan and components by lifting straight up.

Use a very soft bristle paintbrush to sweep off any powder remaining inside

the weigh chamber and in the grooves for the glass doors. Once it's clean, replace

the drip ring and the weigh pan.

Now you're ready to head into the lab and practice using an analytical balance

hands-on. To find in life science course near you visit nccommunitycolleges.edu

Accounting for Beginners #77 / Paying an Independent Contractor / General Ledger / Widget INC #5 - Duration: 13:26.

yoyoyo wheeze back and who are you man I am CPA strength I am the strongest

licensed CPA in the state of Florida what do you do buddy I teach the

don't forget later so it really will help the world find out about my

accounting videos and teach the world how to do accounting go be stingy with

this accounting knowledge you can go over here if it happens for your first

time you can go over here and this is the best playlist in the world this is

really the best accounting playlist you'll find it's all my accounting

playlist currently now what is this this is number 77 this is my classic series

this is my AFB accounting for beginners classic series this is number 77

independent contractor we're going to do an independent contractor expense a

subcontractor the cost of goods sold I don't really want to confuse everybody

with because sometimes like a cost of goods sold is really just an expense

it's broken up different but it's really on the cost of goods sold is on the

income statement under the expenses so I just wanted to leave independent

contractor as an expense but yes is a cost of goods sold for the purpose of

this video we're not gonna do we're not gonna rock with that even bigger than

this being number 77 of my classic series it is v it is number 5 of widget

incorporated where we started our own little business and I hopefully now that

we're getting going you can you can see exactly I hope why after this juror

after they ever do this journal entry you can see why the balance sheet and

the income statement are the way they are and we've just done you know one

journal entry a month but anyways let's get on let's see let's see if

the first one you've seen hey what's up consider watching my other ones if

you're back again hey what up we're learning a lot early and of course how

can I forget my DC either this is really why everybody would watch me damn its

current asset raw expense liability equity reference is like a mapping

system that so you won't forget everything now what are we doing in

number 77 here subset widget Inc number 5 let's go Road to 100 widget

incorporated pays independent contractors 3000 dollars to help with

widget repairs basically what's happy is we only had like 4 that we had like

$4,000 in our bank account I believe yes we had loot $4,000 in our checking

account we have a whole bunch of repairs to do but the only we don't have any

tools or any equipment any anything so we so we we don't have any employees

yeah we have a job to do but we don't have like any employees and employees

you know with like payroll and queueing a foreign employee I don't know do we

like this guy you know cuz that once you start it it's once you have an employee

it's the whole thing you have to have unemployment taxes and all this then

fire and blah blah blah so a lot of people do an independent contractor or a

subcontractor I wrote it out bless my heart right now as an independent

contractor because I think that's more I think you're like where he's an

independent contractor well it's a contractor that's independent he does

his own thing and dependently and view his own thing so you give them the money

without taxes and you'll get a 1099 but anyways it's just another expense

because for us it's a cost of goods sold but it gets the gross profit but it's an

expense because we don't have employees right now even if we did have employees

we might need a special we might need an independent contractor to come work

because he can do things that our employees can't

this is the case right here he has a lot of knowledge right here so he's

basically showing up with his little tool bag and he's gonna fix it he's

gonna fix some witches just because he knows the stuff does he went I don't

know he went to like wood just school for like seven or eight years or

something he's pretty smart guy already a contractor

anyways what do we have well you paid somebody $3,000 do we have cash or

checking account yes we do it's leaving the account yes what is that it's an

asset so if some foreign assets leaving the account the positives or our debit

if it's leaving the account into credit so boom so we have a credit for three

thousand in our checking account because because we have three thousand dollars

leaving our checking account what's our debit gonna be over here well

an independent contractor well your notice three thousand what why are you

having three thousand dollars leave your checking account it is because I'm

paying that independent contractor three thousand dollars that's in the ordinary

course of business and it's a new hope that you would get the money back so

that's an expense so we pay independent contractor three thousand dollars for

which repair she's really smart guy and we need him

we don't have salaried employees yet debit independent contractors three

thousand dollars credit checking account three thousand dollars okay this one

looks this board looks great everything wants to be in shape oh I need an eraser

because I won't feel right and I'm going to rock with the the purple because the

purpose feel real nice in my hand because I use the black one alot of the

purples feel good alright now what happened in that let me

look what happened that journal entry we're an independent contractor and

checking account for three thousand dollars each let's go to our chart of

accounts we already had our checking account because we I think movies are

checking out on all of our transactions so far up through this is May 31st sorry

I forgot to include that in the first board that it's May 31st sorry

it's the fifth transaction May 31st but we have we used there's our chart of

accounts we use checking account in that one - current asset and we used

independent contractor which is an expense now this is a new one so we

would have made an account for this one yeah we just make a new one because we

didn't have any other expenses that were even close to that or like a sub sub

grouping or anything the only other expense we had was rent

and pay to independent contractors not rent so we made up a new expense it is

an expense but it's not right expense so we made a new one and we also from

previous journal entries we have in our chart of accounts we have truck we have

loan from shareholders we have widget service asset liabilities revenue

expenses all various things so that was in our chart of accounts

now the to chart the two accounts that we use for that journal entry was it was

our checking account and our independent contractor let's go in the subdivision

of the account what's going on in the ledger the general ledger for our time

period of when the company started - May 31st 2017 or 2015 sorry May 31st 2015

there's only one thing that happened in the independent contractor general

ledger at 5:30 115 has an expense for $3,000 all right has 390 spends but it

has $3,000 in it he paid somebody $3,000 at the time now what's going on in our

checking account well yeah right we've had productivity in one one fifteen to

twenty eight fifteen 3:31 fifteen four thirty fifteen and five 31:15 so every

single journal entry every month every journal entry we've used the checking

account that's why I always say hey if you can figure out where the cash is

going you're gonna get about half the journal entry right and yeah and that's

what made my life a lot easier I started follow the cash and I started getting

more and more rights than of D's and F's I started it in season B's and then well

I never got better than that really

so I'm 531 15 checking account we had negative $3,000 if you hadn't subtract

every every journal entry that leaves us with $1000 at the end of our currently

right now in our checking account we have $1000 and our independent

contractor account we have $3,000 so that's our chart of accounts in general

ledger now let's bump over to our balance sheet

and income statement all right guys who's back through back

once again we're gonna do the balance sheet the income statement

now balance sheet goes on top that's at 5:30 1:15 set its current certain date

but let's go to the income statement first that runs from 1 1:15 to now which

is 5:30 1:15 what happened on our what happened in our income statement in our

expenses we had independent contractor for $3,000 we added that into our income

statement so that has our expenses at $7,000

we have revenue of $2000 with 2000 - seven thousand is negative $5,000

negative $5,000 is our net income for the year so far

revenues minus expenses net income negative $5,000 so the net income from

the income statement transferring four numbers it's two eights two times on the

end it's once on the income statement and then it goes over the balance sheet

under equity now balance sheet is assets equal liabilities plus equity our assets

our checking account is we've just a journal entry that's 1,000 now plus

starts truck at 4,000 is $5,000 for our assets on our balance sheet assets equal

liabilities plus equity our liabilities didn't change until $10,000 our equity

did change because our net income changed

it's now negative $5,000 so we have five thousand so we have ten

thousand dollars - five thousand dollars for liabilities and equity so that is

five thousand dollars the liabilities plus equity is five thousand dollars so

five thousand dollars liability plus equity equals five thousand dollars

balance sheet let's look at a couple things here common things that you might

hear I might hear from a client you might hear from a client or someone

dad's like so we have a profit of negative a loss of five thousand dollars

of negative five thousand dollars net income but we have a thousand dollars in

our bank account so someone might say ah buddy I have a thousand dollars here to

spend in my bank account but I've lost five thousand I don't make no sense if I

had if I would have negative five thousand in my bank account but I have a

thousand of a great counsel you're stupid

well you got you started with ten thousand dollars I was alone that's his

own thing so I want you to think about that or what I want you to do is look at

look at the a balance sheet the income statement the general ledger the chart

of accounts from the last video possibly I'm just giving the idea from last video

kind of look at it make the journal make a journal entry that we make look at and

then and then do the balance sheet and income statement chart of accounts and

such and see how the number the journal entries and the problem we did change to

the problem before anyways I got a super busy day I love doing this I'm staying

positive but someone this is going to be out in

September so gotta stay positive September is my positivity month nothing

about positivity and my each the YouTube channels just growing subscribers views

it's having record record days like every day now and

all this hard work is paying off anyways till next time have a great one

deuces

A Heartfelt Thank You and an Update on Harvey's Impact on Southwest Airlines - Duration: 6:25.

Hello everyone this is Gary Kelly. I'm recording this message from just outside

of our command center here in Dallas. It's Thursday afternoon and it's to give

you an update on our ongoing efforts to aid, assist, and support all of those

impacted by the devastation of Harvey and it's aftermath. First and foremost, I

want to extend our thoughts and prayers to all of those who have been impacted

by this unprecedented storm. Words simply do not do justice to what so many of you

are experiencing and I want you to know that we're here to help in any and every

way that we can. The road to recovery will be long,

it'll be treacherous for thousands upon thousands of you and we want you to know

that we're here for you and I want to especially thank our employees in the

impacted locations for all that you have done from pre-storm preparations to the

upcoming work to begin the recovery efforts. We are beyond grateful for

everything that you have done and continue to do to serve our customers

and recover our operation. Well let me quickly speak to the status of that. We

will resume limited flight activity in Houston on Saturday afternoon with a mix

of employees from Houston as well as other cities. We continue to focus on

assisting our more than 4,000 Southwest employees who live and work in the

Houston area so that has been and will continue to be our first priority. We

expect conditions will steadily improve each day the opening of the airfield is

a real milestone and we applaud our partners at the city of Houston for

setting the stage for the airlines to begin rebuilding flight service at Hobby.

Our Saturday resumption of service will ensure we have adequate time to take

care of our people, allowing them to tend to their personal needs and we also want

to make sure that we have functional concessions, airport facilities, roadways,

and parking to serve our customers well. We're also working to resume our full

schedule in Corpus Christi and in Harlingen and we'll continue to monitor

the impact of the storm on New Orleans. Though many of you have asked

what you can do to help and what the company is doing. Last weekend, we

evacuated more than 500 people from Houston Hobby on humanitarian flights to

get our customers and our employees who were stranded out of harm's way

and I want to thank all involved for making that effort happen very quickly

and very safely. We've donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross

and specifically for Harvey and that is in addition to our

traditional annual Red Cross donation of $500,000. We're a

national partner of Team Rubicon and we're dialing up our commitment to make

sure they have adequate funding and flights to continue their rescue efforts

and the same goes for another national partner, All Hands. We're supporting their

increased needs as they deploy efforts in the wake of this natural disaster.

We're working on relief and supply flights for those in need and this

includes supporting a humanitarian pet lift evacuating animals housed in a

Houston area shelter from Austin to San Diego in order for that shelter in

Houston to have room to house local displaced pets.

We're also transporting 5,000 pounds of rubber boots and waders into Houston to

assist those focused on recovery efforts, for the volunteers on the ground. There

are so many organizations doing exceptional work in the face of

extremely adverse conditions and I applaud their efforts. We are so proud to

be a part. I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our customers.

They have donated 143 million Rapid Rewards points in one day and as a

company we've donated another five million points for a total of

148 million Rapid Rewards points that will go directly to our

partners to meet the demand of the volunteers and their recovery efforts.

Well finally I want to mention an internal effort that we have underway to

assist our own employees who are directly impacted by by Harvey. Their

biggest need during this trying to is financial assistance and our

Southwest employee catastrophic team is working around the clock to process

requests and provide financial assistance to those in need. This is a fund that is

collected for our employees by our employees. Many of our people contribute

to it on an ongoing basis, but because of the unprecedented nature of this event

we're hosting for the first time a telethon on Wednesday, September the 6th

asking our employees to donate money and provide ongoing support that will go

directly to our employees in these impacted areas. Southwest Airlines will

match dollar for dollar the funds raised by employees at the telethon and in

addition any increases made to the regular employee catastrophic fund

beginning last Thursday, August the 24th through September the 6th will also be

included in the company match. I can't thank you all enough for coming to the

aid of your CoHearts in need let's rally together on Wednesday to raise as much

as we can. In the midst of the devastation and the heartache that we're

all experiencing I am incredibly encouraged and incredibly inspired by

how our community and especially the Southwest family is coming together to

help those impacted by Harvey. We are a family and families come together in

times of need and the acts of kindness and compassion and the willingness to

support those in need are trademarks of our people and our customers and our

community and it is so heartwarming to see it all in action. We stand united

with all of those who have been impacted by this crisis. We are here for you. We

are praying for you. And we are doing everything that we can to help so please

be safe we will get through this together and we will emerge stronger

than ever.

MY ATTEMPT AT AN AUGUST FAVORITES VIDEO | BratKnee - Duration: 7:07.

no stop Grigio hey

hey hi hello it's your girl BratKnee and I am serving up

some 90s looks today which really have nothing to do with the video I just

wanted to point it out because something else that I wanted to point out is that

August is over and I'm not okay with that

but I am the type of person who likes to find a way to cope instead of

complaining about the fact that summer is over or complaining in general cuz I

don't complain I never complain there's nothing I ever complain about so don't

count on me to complain about anything because I cope instead of complain so

the only way I found to cope with the fact that I do not feel good about the

fact that summer is over is to share it with you the things that I do feel good

about this month some call it a favorites video but I call it a hot mess

because I really only watch favorites videos that my friends put out this is

BratKnee's August hot mess list 2017 yeah that title is good for the search

engines so this is a gym membership card thing where I scan every time I go this

is not something that I enjoy doing in August but I did it but that just brings

me to the first items because I was at the gym when I saw them I like to watch

people at the gym because I don't actually know what I'm doing but I also

don't want to try things that I don't know what to do or how to do because

then I feel like like I'm watching people people are watching me so I saw

some very in shape females using these kind of resistant

band things so I was like hey I have a gym membership and they have these there

but I'm gonna go out and buy my own and then this was next to them um I don't

know what the difference is now I feel like not only am I going to the gym but

I have a gym in my house I'm one of those people with an at home gym figure

out what that says about me I also know that going to the gym and working out

isn't going to change my body the way I want to change it so I also had to adapt

my diet in order to get those gains or losses cuz this girl needs to lose weight let

me tell you I found the mother of all snacks they're quinoa chips holy shit

these are so good and I don't feel bad eating the

whole bag in one sitting Who am I thinking of changing my diet I

also decided that I should probably not eat out as much as I was doing not that

it was a lot it was just Moe's I know that goes against everything that my

body is made of because honestly I am one big human burrito

I figured the best way to not eat out was to stockpile some recipes and

instead of you know going to Pinterest like a normal human I decided to buy

lots lots of cookbooks and some drink books but like cookbooks - I haven't

tried any of the recipes yet which my Pinterest boards could have predicted

but honestly they doubled in more than just a way for me to eat healthier I

also you know up to my aesthetic points because they are on my book shelves that

are out in my living area even though I'm trying to eat healthy there's one

product that I will not compromise on the taste of it's not actually edible

but I can't help myself I love this face wash this has been a favorite for a

while now I use this product a while ago and then I switched to a generic just

because I'm cheap AF and I finally decided that you can't you can't skimp

when it comes to things you love so I went back to this product it smells so

good and like it weirdly tastes good too

it doesn't taste as good as I remember sometimes you just get some face wash in

your mouth and then you're like pleasantly surprised that you want to

put this tube on like ice cream or something but it's also good like on my

face so it's not just something that I eat I actually think it helps overall

now it's time to get a little real with you as I mentioned I don't work a

full-time job therefore I don't have to go to an office anymore and that means I

rarely have to change out of my pajamas but normally my pajamas are just like a

t-shirt and underwear which means like if I need to go get the mail or take out

the garbage like I have to get dressed and I didn't want to do that anymore

my solution was to find a nightgown that would you know cover so that I could

just step outside and not have the neighbors like write letters about me

but the Amazon algorithm you that I was definitely not a

nightgown girl and they suggested these long Hanes t-shirts that are long so I

can wear them without pants and still go outside Wow

they also make me feel like I've joined a cult because I don't know they give me

some like cult dish we don't have an identity besides the cult identity

feeling to it but like it's a look I did have something make me sad this month

I'm the type of person who likes to savor things I like to save the best

bite for last therefore I have this problem of letting

things sit in my refrigerator until they go bad and the things I'm talking about

is cheese because I had a throw away a lot of cheese in August

however I cannot be without cheese for long so I stocked up again this is just some of the cheese

that I have purchased like look there's more I just took it all out of my fridge

and brought it into my bathroom because like this is a bedroom not a bathroom

huh like who needs this much mozzarella the answer is me and last but not least

I feel like people are going to say this is a given this is a cop-out but guys I

love my cat like who cares if he won't let me cut his nails and I have you know

scratches all over my body I like to think of them as love scratches okay

ready ready go get it

yeah he fetches

so those are the products that made me feel good despite the fact that summer is rapidly coming

to a close right before our eyes and there's nothing we can do about it cuz

climate change is real I don't know what that has to do with the summer I just

want us to be like relevant don't forget to give this video a thumbs up and

subscribe and maybe leave a comment about some products that are gonna help

you cope with the fact that I just made you realize that summer's over unless

you're in Australia then you know is winter over for you

geography and you know that's that's really all I've got to say about that so

I'll see you soon still don't know how to end these videos

because like maybe I'll see you Tuesday maybe I won't but you know I'll

be here you'll be here we're here together forever

How to fit a green roof to a garden shed - Duration: 6:32.

Welcome back to Garden Ninja, today I'm going to be fitting greenery to a shed that

have been supplied with some green with materials for green roofs direct I'm going

to show you my speedy guide how you can convert a garden shed to something both

beautiful and environmentally friendly so come on let's get cracking!

So the sedum I'm using today here has been supplied by green roofs direct and

they're an Irish company that specialized in green rooms and they have

done from the last 30 years the reason why we have chosen them is that their Sedum is super tough

because its been exposed to the sea and its really hardy. It's had that hardening off period where some other types of Sedum

may have been grown under glass or propagated in a protected environment

and when you're putting them out they're go into shock it's really not the best

when your putting a green roof on so their super tough they've been doing it for

years and the Sedum album is gonna be ideal be ideal to withstand the conditions of

an exposed shed on this plot.

So before we do anything we need to fit the frame around the roof of the shed that's

about three centimeters taller than the actual roof out because this will be the

box that substrate and the Sedum sits on keep it protected and stopping it blowing off

Measure twice cut once you, measure the outside of your sheds to create the box

that again is three centimeters higher than the roof so I'm going to do that

So I've measured my timber frame and just drilled my pilot holes what I'm gonna do

now is taking these galvanized decking screws secure this frame

so you can use a pond liner but I'm using this really thick plastic I'm gonna use

a two ply so I've got a staple gun and I'm gonna pin it to the edge of this

lip here so the waterproof layer is now been attached to the roof of the shed

and the next stage is to put the front lip and the very front of the shed and

then move on to the protective fleece. So what I'm going to do now is put this

root proof felting on what this does is it protects the roof from the roots of the

Sedum so you put this on top of your to water proof membrane and it means that it

prevents the roots from getting through basically allows it to sit on top not

root through the roof put this on now and then apply the substrate the

substrate layer is a free draining mix as you can see here sort of sand and

inert materials such as rocks and grit and what that will allow is for the

Sedum to root into that substrate to get its moisture from there and to also

anchor the Sedum and once it starts to take it's really important and I'm going

to put about a two centimeter layer in that tray on top of the fleece and then

move on to the final part which is unrolling that Sedum blanket. Now always

take care when lifting the substrate because it is quite heavy so my advice

would be if you're not as strong as a garden ninja get a friend to help you

and lift it up one bag at a time and then open it on the roof I'll turn it

simply you can pour it into a bucket take it up in stages which is probably

the easiest method. So I'm gonna take it now spread this out so the easiest way

to get this on is to lift it onto the roof split the bag and then using a rake

spread it out over the roof but be careful if you use the sharp end you can

pierce the waterproof membrane so my top tip to use the backside it's a bit

slower then you want to rake it out until it's about two centimetres in

depth

So the Sedum I'm going to use today is here and it's Sedum album it's

beautifully green and has year round colour it's also super hardy and we'll go down

to conditions of minus 25. It's also really drought resistance if you

have a really baking hot summer it's not just gonna keel over and crisp up and

it's ideal for thin poor soils so it makes an excellent form of Sedum for a

green roof. Now unroll these blankets give it a good soaking and I'm ready to

start to get them on top of the green roof and the timber frame that I've just

constructed. So now that I've got the substrate up on the roof and the Sun is

out I'm now going to re-roll one of these blankets of Sedum simply for ease

of getting up the ladder on top and you want to try and keep your pieces in as

larger section as possible and putting them out like turf you don't want lots

of bits stuck together because the edges dry out and it's difficult to take so

keep them as big as possible but only insofar as it you can lift them up or

get a friend so going to roll this and pop it on top

So there we have it how to fit your very own green roof on top of you said this

green roof was supplied by green roofs direct who are excellent this quality

of Sedum is second to none so I've got no problem with knowing that this is

going to take but I am gonna water it twice a week for the first couple of

weeks until I see new growth if you've liked this video why not subscribe to my

Pack With Me For An Alaska Cruise - Duration: 16:17.

Hey cruisers welcome back to our Alaska series we're so happy to have you here

this video is sponsored today by CruiseLine.com where you can find reviews tips

and photos from real everyday cruisers check them out in the description below

so if you did not watch our video last week you're busted no I'm just kidding

you need to go back and watch our embarkation Day video before you watch

this one or you're going to think that there's stuff missing from my Alaska

bags so here's the skinny we are going on a 10 night Alaska cruise not a

7-night cruise so I'm going to be packing a lot of extra stuff more than

you normally see when we're packing for a 7-night cruise we are also driving to

port so I'm not going to be concerned about baggage fees I am NOT packing

conservatively I'm not packing light if you're looking for a packing light video

this is not for you I'm embracing the over-packer

that I am on this trip so enjoy it alright let's get to the meat of our

packing goodness here so what do you guys think can I get all of this stuff

in these two bags this is a jumbo hard side it comes in cosmetics it luggage

bags there are eight cosmetics out there for this is it luggage I got this years

ago at a discount store and I loved it so that's bag number one and bag number

two is pretty much the same thing I can't even lift it it's so heavy it's a

ricardo from a set that I got at Costco so that is what we're going to attempt

to do now keep in mind we're going to use compression bags on this cruise so

all of this outerwear that you see right here is going to be packed into

compression bags and the air is going to be removed so we're going to do our best

to shrink everything down where necessary so we've talked about the bags

we've talked about the duration of our cruise now I'm going to show you what I

am packing what my son is packing what my husband is packing now the stuff in

the packing cubes is not going to come out because I want you guys to stay

tuned and watch our what I wore or outfitted a day as a lot of you like to

call it when we get on our cruise I'm going to be showing you every single

outfit probably with the exception of my pajamas every day on our cruise so if

you want to see what's in the bags wait for that otherwise I'm going to show you

what's on hangers okay so let's get started we are going to start with my

clothes this particular packing cube has

all of my they're basically like activewear clothes so I have exercise

pants I have exercise tops I have lightweight label clothing in

here in Alaska because it is such a casual destination I find that what I

tend to do is start my day inactive where whether or not I'm working out or

not it's going to be this type of thing sports bras you know yoga pants things

like that with my sneakers and those may or may not make it through the day so

that's a lot of what you see here and I'm going to go ahead and move some of

this stuff aside as we wrap it up next up on my list is our big huge bag with

all the miscellany in it we'll get a close-up for you this bag I kind of need

to open so that you can see what's inside of it but this is the remainder

of the toiletries that you guys did not get to see in last week's embarkation

Day bag so what we have here is little stuff so that we can see it this here is

all my shampoos and conditioners for this trip more miscellaneous toiletry

items like lotions face wash sunscreen eye makeup remover shaving cream for my

husband extra deodorant and stuff like that and this here is mostly lotions for

face body day night you name it I also have a thermos here because my husband

likes hot coffee from the espresso shop in the morning and this is how I

transport it back to the stateroom this is a jewelry roll it has all of my

jewelry for our upcoming cruise which is wonderful this little bag here has all

of my hair stuff in it so the types of things we're going to see in here are

going to be rubber bands bobby pins and different types of hair products that I

use in my cruise this is my little laundry bag we do always do laundry on

board usually it helps us to pack a little bit lighter but also Alaska is a

destination where your stuff just gets more dirty your jeans will get dirt on

them if you go on an active excursion you may even need to wash your jackets

once or twice at least that's been our experience so I take a little bit of my

favorite laundry products here whether that's detergent whitener will light

whatever it may be it's in here loads and loads of extra hand sanitizing wipes

here and my new pop-up hamper that I got at Bed Bath & Beyond and it

and to be pink so this is kind of a little utility bag and we're going to go

ahead and zip this one up and put it off to the side and then I'm going to show

you what's next in my packing cube as you can see I got the green packing

cubes this time so this last bag here I'm not going to open this hold my jeans

all of my t-shirts both short sleeve and long sleeve and my warm weather extras a

sweatshirt or two I have scarf hats and gloves in this bag so this is the

bulkiest stuff that I have and this could end up in a compression bag later

but probably not because I don't want my suitcase to get too heavy so we'll move

this inside I think we're going to run out of room here okay now I'd like to

show you a little bit about what my husband is packed we've kept him out of

packing cubes so far so that I can show you just a teeny tiny bit more what

you're looking at in this stack here he has one pair of shorts

very few shorts needed for Alaska even if it's warm so we have a hat a nice

North Face baseball cap one pair of shorts one pair of athletic pants and

then he have a lot of different pairs of pants and jeans here from Chino type

pants two cords and jeans all right moving on to stack number two we have

his formal wear ties he actually has several bow ties that he's going to try

out on this particular cruise we don't know which ones yet so I'll show you in

a moment what he's going to be wearing those with and then all he really needs

in the way of cold-weather gear is a beanie my husband does not take a scarf

he does not take gloves he's a man he just uses a beanie next up lots of socks

casual daytime socks evening socks and then his underwear are here and the rest

of this is t-shirts short sleeve long sleeve enough for that particular

duration of voyage so that's my husband's folded stuff we're going to

get to all the hanging stuff in just a moment for myself my son and my husband

next up is my next packing cube apparently I skipped one sorry guys I'm

clearly the one who has the most stuff this particular bag has my swimwear

socks and my pajamas underwear and bras did not forget my undergarments to the

undergarment police whoo video after video leave a comment and say where's

your undies I promise there

here there here alright so that is my last packing cube and yes I know I'm a

massive over-packer you guys I'm aware of that I have no shame it's okay with

me and I hope it's okay with you so let's move to my son my son has a

beautiful set of packing cubes this this time from Shaq pack one of our favorite

early sets of packing cubes this is his socks underwear and pajamas in this

little cube here next up are all of his t-shirts long-sleeve short-sleeve

sweatshirts and everything on the top of his body and then in this bag I have his

jeans and all of his little pants and things like that so all that casual wear

will be on his little body and in that laundry repeatedly so let's take a look

now at the exciting stuff all the stuff that we left on hangers to show you guys

I'm going to go ahead and start from the front and work back so we're going to be

looking at my outerwear first we're going to be starting with a fleece that

I got from REI garage this was on clearance for like $20 this is a

Columbia size small that I will be layering under my waterproof layer next

up I have a beautiful Columbia fleece that's very sick and I'm sure my husband

is cringing right now thinking oh yeah that's going in a compression bag babe

but anyway I got this with a Columbia outlet if you watched our carnival

miracle vlogs you saw shopping there and this is one of the things I got back in

May now for the most important item anyone could possibly pack in my opinion

on an Alaskan cruise and that is your waterproof layer this is a Columbia a

little raincoat this is a size small also got this at REI garage on sale they

have wonderful things there so this is what it looks like it is hooded and I

can it's pretty lightweight so I can definitely layer things under I love

green it's one of my favorite colors and I was so happy to find that on sale it's

been a long time I think I've had it for six months but I love green I know it's

bold but you guys are going to be seeing a lot of that in the vlogs

then for glacier days and really really cold days I have this Columbia Omni heat

fleece jacket as you can see this is about mid thigh length comes right above

the knee I will probably be wearing this on our cruise with ugg boots and

leggings on glacier day so watch for that in our out

of the day series okay on to my evening wear I packed about seven night outfits

for 10 days I plan to recycle them don't think that

I'm going to need ten so that is where I was relatively conservative I have a

good old fashioned Express off-the-shoulder black cotton dress that

you've seen a million times before I have a new dress that I got in the

Macy's juniors department am i doing okay on staying in frame here honey okay

this is going to be four dinners I have my first of two formal night dresses

this is a Michael Kors cross front very simple sheath dress it is floor-length

so you'll be seeing that I also have a new cocktail dress I believe this is

from i NC at Macy's this is a petite medium it's a real roughly kind of dress

that goes off of one shoulder really excited to wear that super bright I have

a jumpsuit from IMC that I'm excited about here - this is a petite medium and

as you can see it's pants and they will kind of be off the shoulder I'm excited

about this one it's something new and then you've seen this dress before just

a nice little Nordstrom Rack casual dress and a forever 21

casual dress for evenings and my seventh dinner outfit I believe this is number

seven it's just a little old Navy kind of casual cottony dress with a little

1/2 sweater over the top so those are all of my evening clothes we're going to

go ahead and talk about shoes at the very end of this video what we're going

to do rather than me picking up shoes for everyone is we're just going to kind

of lay them out and I'll explain to you what we're going to wear the shoes for

so if you think I'm skipping that stage we'll the end all right let me show you

what we're packing for my little son we have first his pants for formal nights a

pair of grey and black we have two shirts for formal night that both need

to be ironed which we will do on board as you can see he has one with a regular

tie and one with a bow tie to match his daddy and then we have a bunch of

different shirts that he's going to be wearing to dinner so we have a Lucky

Brand little casual shirt all of them are collared little something from

Gymboree and I'm sure the one he's most excited about is a little stormtrooper

shirt for also from Gymboree and this anchors on it he's going to

kill me when he sees this he hates not clothes but that's okay and then we have

another collared shirt here that one's probably from Ross another Gymboree

henley style shirt and this little polo here so those are all of the clothes

that he's going to wear to dinner he's going to pair those with jeans and cords

and little pants that are already packed away all right next up are my son's

outer layers we are going with a bunch of warm stuff now this is his

Quicksilver sweatshirt little hoodie this is his rain layer from Gymboree and

a matching fleece to keep him warm underneath that and inside of his

packing cubes of course we're going to have hat and gloves for him this is

another rain layer for him I'm not sure if I'm packing this yet we may not need

to so I'll decide a little bit later and a couple of pieces that we got at the

Columbia outlet this is a nice little fleece thin kind of lightweight jacket

and a little Columbia vest it's so cute you guys it's reversible has fleece on

the inside and even a logo so that wraps it up for my son there is one item I

forgot to tell you guys was in these packing cubes and that is a set of

binoculars I know that we did not talk about binoculars last week and you're

all probably wondering where they are they're in the packing cubes now we're

going to take a look at my husband's evening shirts and his formal nightwear

and his outerwear so here we go he has a total of four nice dress shirts that he

is going to be wearing now some of the shirts that he has folded are also

dressy enough for evenings but these are his main shirts so he has two basic

white shirts that will probably wear with bowties show you a little bit more

about how he's going to pair those and then these two printed collared shirts

here that we just got at discount stores most likely like Ross or CJ Maxx have

great deals on shirts now he has this vest that he is going to pair with this

beautiful sport coat and a pair of slacks which are nicely hanging here

both of these from clearance at Macy's I'm not kidding you you guys we got this

beautiful jacket for something like 23 dollars on clearance and it fits him

beautifully super lightweight my husband does not always pack sport coats for

formal night on a cruise but in Alaska where it's a little bit cooler he's

going to be doing that and again he'll be pairing them with bowties

and/or a regular tie no you already saw these earlier but I wanted to show you

one more time okay last but not least in the apparel my

husband's outerwear layers so he has this packable puffy vest which is

extremely lightweight he has his Columbia rain layer which is

just a standard Columbia jacket and he has his awesome splurge item which is

this beautiful gues leather jacket that he's going to wear to keep him warm so

he's not going to take any hoodies or anything like that and again all of his

pants are here that we'll be pairing all that with so I think we've covered

everything I'm looking around making sure we didn't forget everything and we

did it's the shoes so let's talk about shoes we're going to show you right now

what everybody is going to be wearing in the way of shoes let's start with my son

he is only going to be taking three pair of shoes on this cruise he is going to

be taking his flip-flops which he loves to wear he's going to be taking his Nike

sneakers and a little pair of Gymboree wind tips if you will that he's going to

wear for dinners and formal nights so only three pair of shoes for him and you

can get a good look at those right now next up my husband's shoes my husband is

going to be taking a nice standard pair of black dress shoes and then he's going

to be taking a couple pairs of casual shoes he may throw in a set of

flip-flops as well but he also likes a pair of slippers which we'll show you

right here and last but not least my shoes we're saving that for the for the

end because this is one area you guys wear I'm totally over doing it on this

Cruise and I know it so I'm going to be packing a pair of UGG boots for this

cruise I'm also taking a pair of Sperry duck boots but I'm really excited about

four active excursions when I'm going to be in a situation where I need something

waterproof I will also be packing my Nike sneakers and the two pairs of shoes

that I plan to wear for the evenings are these Nine West nude wedges which will

go with every single one of my dresses but on the two formal nights I will be

wearing these silver wedge pump so what did you guys think of our packing series

hope you liked it be sure to stay tuned for the upcoming Alaskan videos that we

have for you we are going to be putting all of

this into action in the outfit of the day videos also known as what I wore on

my princess cruise so stay tuned for that be sure to follow us on social

How To Play An Up-Beat Shuffle - Drum Lesson (Drumeo) - Duration: 4:03.

(bright music)

- What's going on?

My name is Stephen Taylor

and I'm going to talk to you about a groove

that I get asked about every time I play it.

And I just call it an up-beat shuffle

and you can find an example of this, actually, in the...

I believe it was released in 1985.

It's the Tears for Fears song

Everybody Wants to Rule the World.

And it's just a real cool way to interpret a shuffle.

So, what we're going to be doing is

leaving some of the triplets out.

So, normally we have...

(drumsticks clicking - triplets)

Well, I'm gonna begin on the second triplet

and I'm going to play every other triplet.

So, on beat one we wind up playing

the second beat of the triplet.

On beat two we wind up playing the first

and the third hit of the triplet

and then we repeat that.

So it goes...

(demonstrates drum pattern)

Once we get that high-hat pattern down

I want to do two things.

I want to add the kick drum on all four quarter notes

and I want to add the snare on two and four

and you'll have the basic gist of what that groove is.

(demonstrates drum pattern)

Now some of you may stop there

but if we want to take it a step further,

the second step for this would be

let's add a shuffled kick drum.

So, it'd go...

(demonstrates)

And on top of that, we're going to play

the same high-hat pattern

and the same snare drum pattern.

(demonstrates drum pattern)

And now if you really want to take it to the next level,

the third thing you can do is

you can fill in all of the other triplets

with your left hand ghosted notes.

Now, the trick here is I'm filling in

all of the other triplets but I still

want to hit that backbeat on two and four.

So that may take some working for some of you

to get that what I call a jab-punch-jab.

That ghost note into an accent note

back into a ghosted note.

(demonstrates drum pattern)

That's just a fun variation on a shuffle.

We call it the up-beat shuffle

and you can add it to your arsenal.

I get asked about it every time I play it

and it's really fun to work on in your practice time.

Again, I'm Stephen Taylor.

I'm a satellite teacher here for drumeo.com

as well as I run my own website teaching lessons

on my own YouTube channel.

But you can check out all those links below.

(upbeat tempo music)
