All right, onto today's show, which is from a house cleaner who gives, and gives, and
gives, and she feels like she's getting nothing in return.
It's nothing in return from employees.
It's nothing in return from customers.
She feels like she's burned out because she just keeps giving, and she just keeps delivering,
and she's not getting what she feels she should be getting in return.
So is your niceness killing you?
Okay.
Well, it might be.
It might be.
It sounds like there's a lack of boundaries there.
And so I want to go back to the basics for just a minute.
As house cleaners, naturally we are people pleasers.
We jump into a person's house.
The person, for some reason, needs our help.
And so we jump in and we say, oh yes, I can clean this.
You have lots of problems.
I can clean these problems.
I can organize them.
I can pick them up.
I can shine them.
I can polish them.
And all these things.
We jump through all kinds of hoops.
And then a customer comes in and says, oh, by the way, while you're jumping through hoops,
would you mind jumping through one more?
I have this extra room that I need to get guest ready because somebody is coming in
from out of town.
And you're like, sure, no problem, and then you don't charge them any extra.
You just run in and you tidy up the room, right?
You're being too nice.
Then you get home and you resent it.
And you say, that took me an extra half hour, and I didn't get paid for my extra half hour.
And then you didn't get a tip or anything for all the work that you went to.
And so you're a little bit angry, and maybe a little bit frustrated.
And then you have employees, and then they call in and they say, hey, I'm going to be
an extra 10 minutes late.
Is that okay?
And you want to be nice.
So you go, well yeah, that's okay.
And so you go and you start at the customer's house, because you don't want to be late for the job.
And then a half hour later your employee kind of waddles in, like, hey, I'm just getting
here for whatever reason.
And you're kind of upset like, hey, I've already been working for a half hour without you,
but you don't say anything because you're nice. Right?
There are scenarios that happen to us in everyday life.
It could be with our families, it could be with our children, it can be as our employees
or our customers, where we let people walk all over the top of us because we are so nice.
Yes, we are nice.
All right, well I'm here to share something with you.
As long as you are being nice, that doesn't get you anything, right?
It's nice that you're nice, but people don't like you anymore because you're nice.
You're already intrinsically a nice person.
And so people like you just because you're a nice person, but you don't have to be extra nice. Right?
You can say, well I would love to clean the extra guest bedroom, but I have to charge
for that because it's going to take an extra half hour of my time.
So did you want me to do that today, or do you want me to come back on a different day?
Or is it in your budget, and you want me just to spend it right now?
And if you have it to give, spend it right now.
But at least there's a charge that goes along with that.
We get something in return.
Now we learned this from the TV series, 24.
We learned this from Jack Bauer.
Every single time somebody asked Jack for something, he said,
"I will give you this, but I need something in return."
And usually it was immunity or something like that.
And so, I was always a little surprised when he would do this.
I was like, that's a great technique though.
And what he's asking for is fair.
So the people that you're interacting with, they're going to do the same thing.
You're going to charge me this time for extra cleaning.
Always you've given it to me for free, but that's fair.
That's a fair request.
People respect people that are fair, that respect themselves, more than pushovers. Right?
So you've been fired by people that you gave, and gave, and gave, and gave till you could
give no more.
You were so nice, and then they fired you.
And you can't figure out why.
Well, they fired you because they don't respect you.
You've lost your backbone.
There's another company that came in and said, hey, we'll do the extra bedroom, but we charge more.
And they're like, okay, well that's fair.
People want to be part of fair transactions, right?
You have a no late policy, and your employee calls in and they say,
"Hey, I'm going to be 10 minutes late. Is that okay?"
That's not okay.
Our customers have a starting time, and we have to be there at our starting time because
that is our brand.
That is part of our company.
That is who we are.
And it doesn't matter what element of your business it is, but if that is the element
you are promoting, that is the element that matters.
Now, let's go back to Domino's Pizza for a minute.
They never bragged that they were the best on price.
They never bragged that their pizza tasted better than anyone else's pizza.
What they bragged about was, 30 minutes or less, or it's on us, right?
You get your pizza in 30 minutes or we give it to you for free.
Time was of the essence.
Can you imagine a Domino's Pizza employee going,
"Well, I'll start the delivery in 15 minutes. Is that okay?
No, that's not okay.
Our thing is time.
30 minutes or we got to pay for the pizza. Right?
So if you have an on time policy, and your employees keep taking advantage of that, and
they keep coming in late, and you are filling in the gaps and you're being too nice, that
is your problem.
It's your problem because it's causing you stress.
And now you're angry about it and you're frustrated.
And when you're angry, and you're stressed, and you're frustrated, that eats away at your
health and your emotional wellness.
So now you're a boss that's not healthy and you're not emotionally well.
And so ask me this question.
Is it okay if I show up to work, and I run an empire, and I'm not healthy, and I'm not
emotionally well?
My answer to you is, you know what?
No, you're not.
Go home and get your head straight.
Take a nap, get rested.
Get rid of the stress.
Get rid of the anxiety, and come back when you can be the boss that your employees and
your team needs you to be.
Because if you don't have the backbone to run your company, your employees are going
to take it away from you.
We've heard all kinds of stories about employees hijacking the company from the employers.
Or they hijack the customers and they run off and they start their own business.
If you run a company that people don't want to be a part of, they're not going to stick around.
At all.
Under any circumstances.
So if you're being too nice and you're giving lots of leeway, you're being the nice guy
and you're not saying anything because you've got this fake smile on your face, and you're
just going to play nice because you want everybody to like you.
I got news for you.
You're going to be out of business.
It doesn't matter if you run a company and people like you or not.
It really doesn't matter.
The goal in business is to earn money to pay your bills.
And if you're doing all kinds of extra nice things, working a half hour extra for a customer
because you are nice, that's not going to put money in your pocket.
That defeats the end goal.
If you have employees that come in and they are late, that defeats the end goal.
Because you don't have people that have your back that are going to help you run the empire.
What you have is people that are pushing you around, and now you are working overtime,
and you are overworked, and you are stressed because you don't have those boundaries in place.
So my suggestion to you is this.
Stop what you're doing right now, because it's not working.
Take a huge step back and look at the niceness that you have.
And if you need to restructure your conversations with your group meetings, with your employees,
with your customers.
I don't know what's going on in the business, but what I suggest is this.
Restructure what you're going to say.
Think about it in your head and write it down if you have to.
And then when you get in front of your customers, or you get in front of your employees.
If you're no good at this and you can't wing it, read your script.
Just read it to them.
Say, hey, listen.
I prepared a few thoughts, I'm going to read this so I don't miss anything.
And then read your script.
Stay on book.
Stay on book and say, hey, listen, there's a new sheriff in town.
I'm here to regain control of the company that I built.
Right?
This is your little baby.
This is your responsibility.
And so if for some reason you're just being too nice, and you're being pushed around,
and you're being walked all over the top of, and they're taking advantage of you, you're
the only person that can fix it.
You are the only one.
And so I'm here to suggest this.
It's time.
It's time, if you're a really nice person and you're a people pleaser, cut it out.
Just cut it out, right?
You don't have to be mean and ugly, and you don't have to be a tyrant.
But what I'm suggesting is, you can be nice and friendly without being over friendly.
Without people pushing you around and taking advantage of you, because that's not healthy
and it's not wise.
Yeah.
All those things.

Brightech Lightview LED Magnifying Lamp - Try It or Don't Buy It? | Sophie's World - Duration: 5:47.
hi I'm Sophie and welcome to my world well are you ready for another episode
of try it don't buy it well that's what you got today so in full disclosure mode
I'm going to let you know that this is a product that was actually sent to me by
the good folks over at Brightech now Brighttech makes all these amazing
lamps and lights and all kinds of stuff and you should just check out their
website if you need a light or lamp but what they sent me which was amazing was
this magnifying light so let me tell you a little bit about it while I show you
what it looks like it's a Brighttech lightview Pro dimmable LED magnifying
floor lamp and it was designed to ease your close-up focus even with vision
problems such as aging eyes or macular degeneration now when I was a kid my dad
who worked for the United States Mint had one of these but he had a version
that clamped to the table why I like this model is because it's got this very
nice heavy base that's on wheels so you can actually take it anywhere you want
it's really easy it's not like you have to unclamp it and screw it onto
something or have a table that you can screw it onto I remember the one thing
with my dad's was you had to have specific tables because it wouldn't work
for all tables this you don't have to worry about a table at all it's
self-contained now it does take space because this circular area is about two
and a half feet around so it does have a circular space that you have to think
about but I'm going to just show you see how easy this goes up and down this arm
and it can come in and out so that you can basically get it wherever you need
it you can formulate it around the space that you need it as you can see it comes
out like this and then it's got a screw here so that you can set your head
wherever you want it and then this head also pivots so see that you can see how
the head pivots back and forth has this feature here where you can make the
light brighter softer whiter or warmer and you know it's awesome because
some places you don't want quite as much light because you get some glare
off of like if you're working on like a mirrored surface or a silver surface or
something like that you don't want that you want to use more of a warm light so
then you can use more of a warm light there are some things you want to use a
brighter cooler light and then you've got that button that you can make it go
higher and lower so that's pretty cool then this part you open up right
here and I want to make sure that we get a close-up so that you can see how well
it magnifies and the amazing thing about this is that you know I'm getting older
and my eyes definitely you know are starting to you know age with my body
and having something like this where I can actually see the close-up you know
of my fingers and stuff like that like when I'm tying little knots in fact I
used this to make this necklace that you see here and it has a slipknot and I was
able to use this to tie the Slipknot and you know it's hard to see because it's
very very thin using the magnifying glass here I was really able to focus in
and actually see how I was tying the knots it was it was great and then I
really do like this whole differentiation between like a bright
light and a warm light and a cold light it just it's really great I like how
this protects the magnifying glass I mean I would say this I find a tiny bit
annoying I could probably do without it but I see how it keeps the glass clean
it keeps the glass protected so that's great the button is nice and easy to use
I like that it has this hand hold here so that you can swivel it I love
the fact that it swivels easily and then stays put
and I also like the fact that it kind of easily tucks away if you just fold it
down it totally goes away now it does take up like I said a space about two
and a half feet like so a two and a half foot square it's got about a seven foot
long cord so it's got a half-decent cord and it's very easily movable on those
so I know that this is a product that somebody sent me but you have to
understand if I didn't like this product I would not give it the thumbs up that
I'm gonna give this product I think that this product is a sturdy product I think
it's really well made and I'm hoping that it lasts a long time in fact I'm
thinking about buying one for my mom who makes jewelry and I'm thinking that this
would be a great thing for her to have we're definitely going to be using it
here at the office I know I personally going to be using it for close-up work I
think the main thing I would say about this is that the price point is higher
than the cheaper models that I've seen before it is in the hundred dollar range
but if you are looking for a lamp like this that you are looking for magnifying
you're looking for good light and you're looking for something really sturdy and
you're willing to invest a bit I would definitely say buy it so try it don't

How to repair a windsurfing sail with x-ply or monofilm with Gorilla Tape - Duration: 9:38.
and hello everyone I have repaired sails before and while the repair lasted a
long time it seemed that the area was always a bit looser than before. the tape
would slide off and water would get in. in this video I'm going to show how I
went about repairing my sail and the long-term results. the first thing to do
is remove tension on the sail at the outhaul, the downhaul, in my case I left
the mast in but I recommend taking it out just to be sure that the sail is
free of any tension. it's also important to loosen the batten nearest a repair we
may need to push in and out to get it to slide out in this repair when I hold the
sail flat there's a slight overlap around the tear area. prior to this
repair I use temporary duct tape without overlapping, this resulted in unwanted
waves and wrinkles down below so this time I'm hoping that the overlap helps
get rid of them. before going into the repair I try to visualize how to hold
the sail down so that it remains flat while applying the tape and preserving
the natural shape of the sail. despite the fact that tension was released, the
sail shape may still wrinkle up creating unwanted waves in the material. next we
want to make sure that there are no remaining little pieces of thread
sticking out to make a cleaner area for the tape to stick. these are really tough
strings and I used heavy-duty scissors with small teeth which made it easier
the strings that were not torn we're left as is as they may still help the
overall structure of the sail. to hold the entire panel flat I'm going to sit
on the lower part of the sail and slightly push up with my feet on the
batten, so that the bottom section is flat as well. it looks like I'll need to
pull to the side here so that the sail stays flat in this area. now I'm ready to
apply temporary tape over the area which will set the sail material exactly how I
want it at the end of the repair
when I'm happy with the way it looks, I pre-tape the area to hold the wanted
alignment in place. we don't want any gaps or waves around the extremities of
the repair. here I pull to the side to get this area of the sail as flat as
possible before applying the tape. the order of installation of the temporary
pieces is the same as the order I'll use in the final repair
now the sail looks tight and uniform with no more waves or wrinkles. with the
sail flipped over I can now trim the extra strings and
threads from this side
from here I'm going to speed up certain parts of the video so that you can still
get the full detail of the repair
before we tape, we need to clean the area. if it's been taped before, I use oil
which is great at removing glue. then, I wipe the excess and use a small amount
of soap, and finally alcohol
if you use paper towel, be sure to remove any lint left behind the sharp edges of
the sail will shred the paper
now the sail is ready for its final taping job! the tape I use is waterproof
quite thick and very sticky there are several versions of the tape so be sure
to go on my web site whose the link is in the video
description below, you may also simply google manu's windsurfing blog. in the
tips and tricks section you'll find links to other products I use
the tape has a slight stretch which I think can prevent it from drying out
in the long run the best part is it's inexpensive too. the tape will have its
greatest holding power when it's centered over the tear, I try to
visualize how to cut the tape so that it covers the most sail material as
possible basically trying to have the largest pieces on first before applying
the smaller ones. I press from the center out to avoid bubbles and get the
greatest grip. however the tape is quite tolerant to
imperfections that will disappear over time as you will see in in the final
results
as the tape comes quite close to the batten pocket
I cut the tape a little bit longer so that it can reach the farthest up in
there
then I lift up on the white stripe and tuck the tape under
by bringing the tape up from the sides and cutting it at an angle I get the
most holding power. then, the tape following the batten pocket will need to
cover a small area and also lean against the existing tape
with the white fabric rolled up, I can slide under and place the final piece of
tape of this side
now I can flip the sail over and remove the temporary tape
always working from the center out when pushing down on a tape, it's important to
make sure that there's good contact over the strings
that's where water will want to make its way in
and here we are, the repair is complete. the dark background helps to reveal any
bubbles and imperfections these will disappear as the glue settles over time
look for areas that you may have missed especially around the strings without
tension, the way the sail material lines up looks exactly how it was originally
this is the long-term results after ten sessions and a few washing cycles in the
waves and a couple months of use as the tape settled the initial overlap is now
gone we can see a gap of about 1/32 of an
inch or less than half a millimeter the tape is still clear and has good
transparency there's absolutely zero water in around inside the tape area I
set some downhaul on the sail with no outhaul to show what the sail looks like
with little tension. I'm very happy how the repair turned out, I still carry the
sail on my head every time I walk out of the shorebreak. please let me know your
thoughts about this repair I do feel like this tape could be used across
panels or batten pockets and whatnot, quite impressive !
